  I create a simple table in SqlServer .. key field integer, 4 strings and a Timestamp This Table is called Event .. which pluralizes to Events.(the checkbox was ticked) I run the Entity Builder in VS2010 just adding this table only. EntityModelXXX x = new EntityModelXXX(); // create an object 'e' here x.AddToEvents(e); produces an error : The EntitySet name 'EntityModelXXX.Events' could not be found. It doesn't seem to find the set .. why?

• MVVM pattern and nested view models - communication and lookup lists

  I am using Prism for a new application that I am creating. There are several lookup lists that will be used in several places in the application. Therefore it makes sense to define it once and use that everywhere I need that functionality. My current solution is to use typed data templates to render the controls inside a content control. <DataTemplate DataType={x:Type ListOfCountriesViewModel}> <ComboBox ItemsSource={Binding Countries} SelectedItem="{Binding SelectedCountry"/> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate DataType={x:Type ListOfRegionsViewModel}> <ComboBox ItemsSource={Binding Countries} SelectedItem={Binding SelectedRegion} /> </DataTemplate> public class ParentViewModel { SelectedCountry get; set; SelectedRegion get; set; ListOfCountriesViewModel CountriesVM; ListOfRegionsViewModel RgnsVM; } Then in my window I have 2 content controls and the rest of the controls <ContentControl Content="{Binding CountriesVM}"></ContentControl> <ContentControl Content="{Binding RgnsVM}"></ContentControl> <Rest of controls on view> At the moment I have this working and the SelectedItems for the combo boxes are publising events via EventAggregator from the child view models which are then subscribed to in the parent view model. I am not sure that this is the best way to go as I can imagine I would end up with a lot of events very quickly and it will become unwieldy. Also if I was to use the same view model on another window it will publish the event and this parent viewmodel is subscribed to it which could have unintended consequences. My questions are :- Is this the best way to put lookup lists in a view which can be re-used across screens? How do I make it so that the combobox which is bound to the child viewmodel sets the relevant property on the parent viewmodel without using events / mediator. e.g in this case SelectedCountry for example? Any alternative implementation proposals for what I am trying to do? I have a feeling I am missing something obvious and there is so much info it is hard to know what is right so any help would be most gratefully received.

• SQL Server 2005 - Syncing development/production databases

  I've got a rather large SQL Server 2005 database that is under constant development. Every so often, I either get a new developer or need to deploy wide-scale schema changes to the production server. My main concern is deploying schema + data updates to developer machines from the "master" development copy. Is there some built-in functionality or tools for publishing schema + data in such a fashion? I'd like it to take as little time as possible. Can it be done from within SSMS? • <msbuild/> task fails while <devenv/> succeeds for MFC application in CruiseControl.NET?

  The Overview I am working on a Continuous Integration build of a MFC appliction via CruiseControl.net and VS2010. When building my .sln, a "Visual Studio" CCNet task (<devenv/>) works, but a simple MSBuild wrapper script (see below) run via the CCNet <msbuild/> task fails with errors like: error RC1015: cannot open include file 'winres.h'.. error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'afxwin.h': No such file or directory error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'afx.h': No such file or directory The Question How can I adjust the build environment of my msbuild wrapper so that the application builds correctly? (Pretty clearly the MFC paths aren't right for the msbuild environment, but how do i fix it for MSBuild+VS2010+MFC+CCNet?) Background Details We have successfully upgraded an MFC application (.exe with some MFC extension .dlls) to Visual Studio 2010 and can compile the application without issue on developer machines. Now I am working on compiling the application on the CI server environment I did a full installation of VS2010 (Professional) on the build server. In this way, I knew everything I needed would be on the machine (one way or another) and that this would be consistent with developer machines. VS2010 is correctly installed on the CI server, and the devenv task works as expected I now have a wrapper MSBuild script that does some extended version processing and then builds the .sln for the application via an MSBuild task. This wrapper script is run via CCNet's MSBuild task and fails with the above mentioned errors The Simple MSBuild Wrapper <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Project ToolsVersion="4.0" DefaultTargets="Build" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/developer/msbuild/2003"> <Target Name="Build"> <!-- Doing some versioning stuff here--> <MSBuild Projects="target.sln" Properties="Configuration=ReleaseUnicode;Platform=Any CPU;..." /> </Target> </Project> My Assumptions This seems to be a missing/wrong configuration of include paths to standard header resources of the MFC persuasion I should be able to coerce the MSBuild environment to consider the relevant resource files from my VS2010 install and have this approach work. Given the vs2010 msbuild support for visual c++ projects (.vcxproj), shouldn't msbuilding a solution be pretty close to compiling via visual studio? But how do I do that? Am I setting Environment variables? Registry settings? I can see how one can inject additional directories in some cases, but this seems to need a more systemic configuration at the compiler defaults level. Update 1 This appears to only ever happen in two cases: resource compilation (rc.exe), and precompiled header (stdafx.h) compilation, and only for certain projects? I was thinking it was across the board, but indeed it appears only to be in these cases. I guess I will keep digging and hope someone has some insight they would be willing to share...

  Hello, Im doing a Java application and Im facing some doubts in which concerns performance. I have a PriorityQueue which guarantees me the element removed is the one with greater priority. That PriorityQueue has instances of class Event (which implements Comparable interface). Each Event is associated with a Entity. The size of that priorityqueue could be huge and very frequently I will have to remove events associated to an entity. Right now Im using an iterator to run all the priorityqueue. However Im finding it heavy and I wonder if there are better alternatives to search and remove events associated with an entity "xpto". Any suggestions? Thanks!

• Date/Time formatting in .NET (Devexpress Gantt charts to show time rather than date)

  I have some data about a day's events that I'm trying to visualise as a Gantt chart using Devexpress XtraCharts. Devexpress's example here shows the chart being populated by date. However, I'd like it to be populated by time to compare the events throughout one day. My X-axis is displaying correctly - done like so: ganttDiagram.AxisY.DateTimeMeasureUnit = DateTimeMeasurementUnit.Minute I have data with the correct time, however, the label on each series is showing the date (which are all the same, because it's all the same day!) Thus, instead of being a bar, all of them are just single points, with the label showing 31/03/2010 - 31/03/2010. Each series is created with the code below: s.Points.Add(New SeriesPoint("Machine", New DateTime() {ev.StartTime, ev.EndTime}))

  I'm trying to automate in a WinForm using a WebBrowser control to navigate and pull report info from a website. You can enter values in textboxes and invoke the click events for buttons and links, but I have not figured out how select a option drop-down .... in a automated way. • Xcode duplicate symbol _main .

  I'm getting the following error in Xcode 3.2.1 on Snow Leopard 10.6.2 whenever I try to compile any iPhone application generated by Appcelerator's Titanium . However , the build error only appears when I select iPhone simulator on the architecture menu , and if I select iPhone device , I am able to run the app on my device . Further , the iPhone simulator launches successfully and executes the program directly from the Titanium environment , which uses Xcode to build .   It seems the java.net.NetworkInterface implementation of android does not have a byte[] getHardwareAddress() method http://developer.android.com/reference/java/net/NetworkInterface.html I've found several forums of people trying to do this with no definitive answer, I need to get a somewhat cross-device UUID, so I can't rely on phone numbers or in ANDROID_ID (which can be overwritten and which I think depends on the user having a google account) http://developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/Settings.Secure.html#ANDROID_ID In linux you can use ifconfig or read from /proc/net/arp and you can easily get the Hardware address. Is there a file in android that I can read? There has to be a way to get this address since it's shown in the "Settings About Phone Status" of the phone.

• UserControl Focus Issue - Focus() sometimes returns false

  I have a user control that behaves similar to a tab control. The tab headers are UserControls that override Paint events to make them look custom. In order to leverage the Validating events on various controls on our tab pages, when the user clicks on the tab headers, we set the Focus to the TabHeader user control. I've noticed that Control.Focus() returns false sometimes but the documentation does not say why Control.Focus() will ever return false other than that the control can't receive focus. But I don't know why. Here's what i see. If my TabHeader UserControl does not contain any subcontrols, and I call myControl.Focus() from the MouseClick event, focus returns true. If my TabHeader UserControl contains a subcontrol, and I call myControl.Focus() from the MouseClick event, focus returns false. If my TabHeader UserControl contains a subcontrol, and I call myControl.subControl.Focus() from the myControl.MouseClick event, focus returns true. Can someone explain this?

  I am writing a C# windows service that is doing some churning through the eventlog on a few domain controllers. Some of them are Windows Server 2003 and some are Windows Server 2008. Upon the service stopping I am attempting to resume where I left off in the logs. In order to do this instead of SELECT * FROM Win32_NTLogEvent WHERE --criteria for events I am looking for I am doing SELECT * FROM Win32_NTLogEvent WHERE TimeGenerated = --some date AND --criteria for events I am looking for At one point I was convinced that the TimeGenerated field was in the local time of the server but now it seems that the Windows 2008 Servers are using GMT to record that time. Can anyone shed some light on if this is a real different between the way the two operating systems function or is this a configuration problem?

  Hi guys, Sorry, I know this is a very lame question to ask and not of any use to anyone else. I have an assignment in UML due tomorrow and I don't even know the basics (all-nighter ahead!). I'm not looking for a walkthrough, I simply want your opinion on something. The assignment is as follows (you only need to skim over it!): ============= Gourmet Surprise (GS) is a small catering firm with five employees. During a typical weekend, GS caters fifteen events with twenty to fifty people each. The business has grown rapidly over the past year and the owner wants to install a new computer system for managing the ordering and buying process. GS has a set of ten standard menus. When potential customers call, the receptionist describes the menus to them. If the customer decides to book an event (dinner, lunch, picnic, finger food etc.), the receptionist records the customer information (e.g., name, address, phone number, etc.) and the information about the event (e.g., place, date, time, which one of the standard menus, total price) on a contract. The customer is then faxed a copy of the contract and must sign and return it along with a deposit (often a credit card or by check) before the event is officially booked. The remaining money is collected when the catering is delivered. Sometimes, the customer wants something special (e.g., birthday cake). In this case, the receptionist takes the information and gives it to the owner who determines the cost; the receptionist then calls the customer back with the price information. Sometimes the customer accepts the price, other times, the customer requests some changes that have to go back to the owner for a new cost estimate. Each week, the owner looks through the events scheduled for that weekend and orders the supplies (e.g., plates) and food (e.g., bread, chicken) needed to make them. The owner would like to use the system for marketing as well. It should be able to track how customers learned about GS, and identify repeat customers, so that GS can mail special offers to them. The owner also wants to track the events on which GS sent a contract, but the customer never signed the contract and actually booked a GS. Exercise: Create an activity diagram and a use case model (complete with a set of detail use case descriptions) for the above system. Produce an initial domain model (class diagram) based on these descriptions. Elaborate the use cases into sequence diagrams, and include any state diagrams necessary. Finally use the information from these dynamic models to expand the domain model into a full application model. ============= In your opinion, do you think this question is asking me to come up with a package for an online ordering system to replace the system described above, or to create UML diagrams that facilitate the existing telephone-based system?

The application have a good internet connection and there is no problem reaching the app server-side api. I see in analytics that lots of startups and click-events the past few days are lost, even I know the traffic is normal since i can see statistics from the the server api. In the analytics reports I see a day by day under-reporting. So the problems seems to be spreading/growing to all the devices using this application. Im wondering why google does not answer this in their mail-groups - several people have complained about this...well, well... I found this thread relevant: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/682560/java-net-socketexception-broken-pipe But, I'm still not sure if there is anything I can do to fix it or not. If there is nothing I can do to fix it, I guess its not my fault that it got broken. But i got a feeling it is, since the problem got dramatically worse on the last deploy to Android market. User can drag an event from day to day, or add new events by clicking a button, which appends a new dragable event (LI) to the fist UL (Sunday). I want to make each day accept only up to 10 events.   I've been experimenting a quite strange problem using Delphi 2010. In one form (a quite complex one) some buttons are automagically losing the click event. I am not dynamically assigning the event or something (they are wired in IDE). The events are fired OK some times but suddenly (and randomly) some of them don't fire the events anymore. Placing a break point in the event doesn't stop the execution. Weird, yes, and I'm lost. I know there is no explanation for this so I only want to ask if there is anybody else experimenting the same problem.

  I'm trying to use CoreServices on the iPhone simulator (I don't need it to run on a device), but my project won't build because of the error: ld: framework not found CoreServices Command /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/usr/bin/gcc-4.2 failed with exit code 1 I've added the framework to my project, under frameworks. I also read you need to include CFNetwork.framework, so I've added that too. If I remove CoreServices.framework, the compiler complains about undeclared symbols, as you'd expect. So it seems to use the framework to compile those classes, but then complains it can't find the framework.

• Flex HTTPService security error using Safari

  I'm using the HTTPService object in actionscript to send some data to a php file on another server which then inserts the data to a database. I set up the crossdomain.xml file in the root of the directory that contains the php file to get around any security issues. Everything works fine on Firfox 3.5 (on mac and pc) and on IE 7 & 8. When testing on Safari 4 I get an error which would be expected when a crossdomain.xml doesn't exist.   As a follow up to this question What are the advantages of built-in immutability of F# over C#?--am I correct in assuming that the F# compiler can make certain optimizations knowing that it's dealing with largely immutable code? I mean even if a developer writes "Functional C#" the compiler wouldn't know all of the immutability that the developer had tried to code in so that it couldn't make the same optimizations, right? In general would the compiler of a functional language be able to make optimizations that would not be possible with an imperative language--even one written with as much immutability as possible?

  I've been working on a project for a few weeks now and today is the last day before it goes to client (typical). For some reason Im suddenly getting the following error when building my project (sim or device), even though other projects build fine /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator3.1.3.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework/Headers/UIKit.h:61:42: error: UIKit/UIVideoEditorController.h: No such file or directory The last thing I was trying to do was use the UIMessage framework for email, but I have stripped that out!?!? N.B I have checked and the .h file does appear to be in the same folder as the UIKit.h file
