  • jQuery: set the width of a textarea?

    - by AP257
What it says on the tin: how do I set the width of a textarea in jQuery? I want to set the width of a textarea to match the width of a particular image. Using .width() works for setting the width of an image, but not of a textarea. $(document).ready(function() { var width = $("#my_image").width(); $("#another_image").width(width); // works $("#my_textarea").width(width); // fails }); How do I set the width of a textarea?

  • using jquery $.post() for returning multiple values

    - by Aninemity
Hi all I am trying to use a $.post() in the following way: $.post("file.php", { file_id: $(this).val()}, function(data){...} The file.php then does a database query and returns an array with a title, description and image reference. What I want to do then is be able to update the .val() for form fields for each. I understand how to do this on a single variable, it would just be the following: $.post("file.php", { file_id: $(this).val()}, function(data){ $('#title').val(data); } But, how do I get the data returned to be recognizable in jquery as either separate variables or as an array? Thanks in advance

  • Selecting radiobuttons populated within asp.net RadioButtonList with jQuery

    - by user194881
Hello and thanks in advance for the communal help I always find here. I have been tinkering around with what should seem a pretty straight forward task even for a jQuery newb as myself. I have a radiobuttonlist control bound to a collection: <asp:RadioButtonList ID="radBtnLstPackageSelector" runat="server" CssClass="PackageS"> </asp:RadioButtonList> My form does have several other controls of the same type; Now, the challenge is to select and wire up a on Click event for every radiobutton from the radBtnLstPackageSelector. I have tried several approaches such as: var results1 = $(".PackageS").children("input"); var results1 = $(".PackageS").children("input[type=radiobutton"); var results1 = $("table.PackageS > input[type=radiobutton"); with no luck... Your help would be great right now! ~m

  • Serializing to JSON in jQuery

    - by Herb Caudill
I know how to serialize an object to JSON in ASP.NET Ajax, but I'm trying to do things on the client in a less Microsoft-specific way. I'm using jQuery. Is there a "standard" way to do this? My specific situation: I have an array defined something like this: var countries = new Array(); countries[0] = 'ga'; countries[1] = 'cd'; ... and I need to turn this into a string to pass to $.ajax() like this: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "Concessions.aspx/GetConcessions", data: "{'countries':['ga','cd']}", ... Edit (clarification) I realize there are a number of JSON libraries out there, but I'd like to avoid introducing a new dependency (if I'm going to do that, I might as well use ASP.NET Ajax's built-in JSON serializer).

  • jQuery reader() on downloaded content.

    - by David
Hi all! jQuery.ready() allows us to wait for the construction of the webpage. Recently it has been added support to wait until CSS files are loaded. I would like to know if that feature can be used for downloaded content, because I fetch content via $.ajax() that holds CSS references and I would like to retrieve the content of the CSS before working with the retrieved content. Fetch with $.ajax() the html. -- Wait until all CSS is downloaded. Show to fetched content (already css'ed). Thank you very much for your help.

  • jQuery Nested Droppables

    - by John
I have a nested set of jQuery droppables...one outer droppable that encompasses most of the page and an a set of nested inner droppables on the page. The functionality I want is: If a draggable is dropped outside of any of the inner droppables it should be accepted by the outer droppable. If a draggable is dropped onto any of the inner droppables it should NOT be accepted by the outer droppable, regardless of whether the inner droppable accepts the draggable. So that would be easy if I could guarantee 1+ inner droppables would accept the draggable, because the greedy attribute would make sure it would only get triggered once. Unfortunately the majority of the time the inner droppable will also reject the draggable, meaning the greedy option doesn't really help. Summary: The basic functionality is a set of valid/invalid inner droppables to accept the draggable, but when you toss the draggable outside any of the draggables it gets destroyed by the outer droppable. What's the best way of doing this?

  • Preventing click event with jQuery drag and drop

    - by Sasha Yanovets
I have an elements on page that are draggabe with jQuery. These elements have click event wich navigates to another page (ordinary links for example). What is the best way to prevent click from firing on dropping such element, while allowing clicking it in not drag and drop state? I have this problem with sortable elements, but think it is good to have solution for general drag and drop. I've solved the problem for myself. After that found that same solution exists for Scriptaculous, but maybe someone have a better way to achieve that.

  • JSON + PHP + JQuery + Autocomplete problem...

    - by RohanCS
    Hi Everyone, Only started today but I'm having massive problems trying to understand JSON/AJAX etc, I've gotten my code this far but am stumped on how to return the data being pulled by the AJAX request to the jQuery Auto complete function. var autocomplete = new function (){ this.init = function() { $('#insurance_destination').autocomplete({source: lookup}); } function lookup(){ $.ajax({ url: "scripts/php/autocomplete.php", data: {query:this.term}, dataType: "json", cache : false, success: function(data) { for(key in data){ return { label: key, value: data[key][0] } } } }); } } And example of the JSON string being returned by a PHP script {"Uganda":["UGA","UK4","Worldwide excluding USA, Canada and the Carribbean"]}

  • Is this the best way to query an element and its children?

    - by Soviut
I'm trying to query an element and its children to find ID's that begin with a particular string. var foundIDs = containerElement.find('[id^=something]').andSelf().filter('id^=something'); The find() method only searches descendants so I thought I'd try andSelf(). However, andSelf() does not take a selector. This means that the container element is included regardless of whether it matches the find query or not and I then have to perform a secondary filter() on it to remove the container element if it didn't match after all. I attempted to put andSelf() before the find() but it didn't seem to pick up the container element into the stack. containerElement.andSelf().find('[id^=something]'); Is there any better way to achieve what I'm doing?

  • Build divs JS functions included in JS or jQuery from ajax & php data

If a user checks a form checkbox I want to create a new div. Dynamic data is loaded from ajax and php. I am asking how to create it with JS or jQuery. A simplified version will look something like <div id="ajaxSRC1" class="CLASS"> <a href="javascript:void(0)" onmouseover="return myFunction('ajaxSRC5', 'ajaxSRC6')"> <img src="ajaxSRC2" width="ajaxSRC3" height="ajaxSRC4" alt="..." /> </a> </div>

  • JQUERY AJAX works on linux, but not on windows box

    - by awebbdesign
I have a strange issue where the code works fine locally and on a linux server but not on a windows server... Works fine on: bijoudancewear.co.uk/mapper/ Doesn't work on: faringdongolfcourse.co.uk/mapper/ After clicking on map... If you click on 'Department Stores, fashion & Accessories' (2nd from bottom) it loads the appropriate data on the linux box but not on Windows. Also works fine locally on my mac, there is no ASP or PHP, this is good old fashioned html and jquery. Any pointers would be great.

  • JQuery updating label

    - by Zaps
Hi, I have 2 textboxes and a label on my page. The 2 textboxes will contain numeric values. The label text will be the product of the 2 textbox values. Is there a way to do this using JQuery so that the value can get updated without having to do a postback? Also the textboxes may contain values with commas in it: e.g. 10,000. Is there a way I can extract the number from this so that it can be used to calculate the label value. Thanks in advance, Zaps
