    Hello again, so i write my e-commerce shop cms and have some strange error: ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: Mysql::Error: Unknown column 'id' in 'where clause': DELETE FROM `properties` WHERE `id` = NULL so, i have three models Items: class Item < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :properties, :dependent => :destroy has_many :types, :through => :property end Type: class Type < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :properties, :dependent => :destroy end Properties: class Property < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :item belongs_to :type end So, all is okay, but when i try to item.destroy() i have error =( This is my test code: test "should destroy associated properties" do item = Item.create(:name => "Jeans") type = Type.create(:key => "color") property = Property.new property.item = item property.type = type property.save item.destroy() end

  • Scope of Constants in Ruby Modules

    I'm having a little problem with constant scope in mixin modules. Let's say I have something like this module Auth USER_KEY = "user" unless defined? USER_KEY def authorize user_id = session[USER_KEY] def end The USER_KEY constant should default to "user" unless it's already defined. Now I might mix this into a couple of places, but in one of those places the USER_KEY needs to be different, so we might have something like this class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base USER_KEY = "my_user" include Auth def test_auth authorize end end I would expect that USER_KEY would be "my_user" when used in authorize, since it's already defined, but it's still "user", taken from the modules definition of USER_KEY. Anyone have any idea how to get authorize to use the classes version of USER_KEY?

  • retrieving data from memcache

    Hello, I am starting to learn the benefits of memcache, and would like to implement it on my project. I have understood most of it, such as how data can be retrieved by a key and so on. Now I get it that I can put a post with all of its details in memcache and call the key POST:123, that is OK, and I can do it for each post. But how to deal with the case when I query the table posts to get the list of all posts with their titles. Can this be done with memcache, or should this always be queried from the table?

I can add new properties at any time (it's a normal model). Lets say the Ad is of the type 'hotel'. Then I would add properties like 'stars' and 'breakfast_included' Then I store each of these properties' values in a separate model. And all this works fine with my form above. My problem: These fields are not validated because I can't know what their names are. I need to add validations dynamically somehow. My thought: #Before the normal validations kick in def add_validations self.properties.each do |property| property.add_validation :whatever #somehow :) end end How could I do this?

  • Faster RSpec with JRuby

    Hello, I'm pretty new to the whole JRuby world. I'm using RSpec on a pretty big test suite. I'd like to be able to run the specs frequently but the JVM takes so long to startup it's becoming a real time drain. Is there a way to keep the JVM running? or a way to get specs to run faster with JRuby? Thanks in advance for the help, JPoz

    Ok: User attr_accessible :name, :email, :email_confirmation validates_presence_of :email_confirmation if :email_changed? What happens in the following situation: u = User.find 1 u.name = 'Fonzi' u.name_changed? # => true u.email_changed? # => false u.valid? # => false : email_confirmation is required Basically, if I change if to unless the validates works as expected, won't validate if the email has not changed, will validate if the email changed. I thought the IF indicates "run this validation if the following function returns true. Seems to work backwards!? Am I just getting it wrong?

    I have a need to design a system to track users memberships to groups with varying roles (currently three). class Group < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :memberships has_many :users, :through => :memberships end class Role < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :memberships has_many :users, :through => :memberships end class Membership < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :role belongs_to :group end class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :memberships has_many :groups, :through => :memberships end Ideally what I want is to simply set @group.users << @user and have the membership have the correct role. I can use :conditions to select data that has been manually inserted as such : :conditions => ["memberships.grouprole_id= ? ", Grouprole.find_by_name('user')] But when creating the membership to the group the grouprole_id is not being set. Is there a way to do this as at present I have a somewhat repetitive piece of code for each user role in my Group model.

  • RoR: Condition Always False - Why?

    Working in RoR 2.3.x. My quiz_results table has a row for user_id (3907) and result (0.1), and two users I'm looking at with no rows in the quiz_results table. This line keeps returining false: -if QuizResult.find_by_user_id(@user_id).present? But if I change it to anything that returns true, the next line reports an error on the * method: ="#{(QuizResult.average('score', :conditions => 'user_id = #{@user.id}') * 100).round}%" The beginning of the code is a loop: [email protected] do |user| Any ideas how to fix? Have tried unsuccessfully all day.

I get the menuname in the routes.rb and it's call the static controller show method. match '/:menuname' = 'static#show' And static_controller.rb: @static=Staticpage.where("menuname = ?", params[:menuname]) But if I want print @static.title in the view, I get this error: undefined method `title' for # Whats wrong? the SQL query looks good: SELECT staticpages.* FROM staticpages WHERE (menuname = 'asd')

  • Create ActiveRecord migration then edit in one step?

    I find myself doing this a lot: script/generate migration my_new_migration .. then select & copy the generated filename, then paste it into vi to actually write the migration. Is there any way to do this in one step? i.e. when the script/generate migration runs, it creates the file the automatically opens that file in an editor? (I'm working in an SSH terminal window on linux..)

    I have successfully set up this plugin before so I am curious as to what I am doing wrong here. I have built the ability for users to add tags to questions. I am not using tagging plugin here but that shouldn't matter for this. With respect to the auto complete, I am trying to have the form located in the /views/questions/show.html.erb file access the Tags table and display entries in the tags.tags_name column. When I begin to type in the field I get the following error message: Processing QuestionsController#show (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-05-31 15:22:20) [GET] Parameters: {"tag"=>{"tag_name"=>"a"}, "id"=>"auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name"} Question Load (0.1ms) SELECT * FROM "questions" WHERE ("questions"."id" = 0) ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound (Couldn't find Question with ID=auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name): app/controllers/application_controller.rb:15:in `init_data' For some reason I am actually passing the field name as the Question.id. The plugin set up is fairly simple as you add the following line to your controller: auto_complete_for :tag, :tag_name and the following line in your routes.rb file: map.resources :tags, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } I have added the controller line to both my tags and questions controller and also mapped resources for both tags and questions in my routes.rb file: map.resources :tags, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } map.resources :questions, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } I have played around with removing either or of the above but can't seem to fix it. Any ideas what I am doing wrong here? UPDATE: My QuestionsController#show action is fishing posts by: @question = Question.find(params[:id])

  • Skipping authorization for certain methods

    Per the Agile Development book, I have an Admin MVC that controls how users log in. In ApplicationController, I have a before_filter that checks for authorization. So, this will check that the user has logged in for every page. The problem is that I want everyone to be able to access the new method, for example, in Users (that is, anyone should be able to create a new user -- naturally! Only admin users should have access to the other methods in UsersController such as edit, etc.). What's the best way to do that?

I thought that the default would allow me to create controller/action.xml by using respond_to in the controller, but that doesn't appear to be the right way. How can I create controller/action URL's (some are .xml) without creating a special route with map.connect?

    I've got a simple active record validation on an object using this within a form: form.error_messages({:message => '', :header_message => ''}) This in turn outputs something like "FieldName My Custom message" What i need to do is remove the field name from the error message but leave my custom message.
