  • What is the most robust way of determining the current codepage from a shell script?

    - by rewbs
    Hi all, I'd like to determine the environment's current codepage at runtime from a Unix shell script. What's the most reliable way of doing this? I'm looking into parsing environment variable $LC_ALL, but it isn't always set to a useful value, and its format seems to vary (can be <locale, or <locale.<code page, or <locale.<code page@<modifier etc...). Is there a better way? I'm essentially after a shell equivalent of what I'd get if I called nl_langinfo(CODESET) from C.

  • Convert user input into ToString() method inside FlowDocument in Workflow 4.0

    - by Jon Ownbey
    I have a Workflow 4.0 app that generates emails. In a dialog for creating the email body the user needs to be able to input some string value representing an existing wf instance variable to be inserted as a string at runtime. So they input something like: Email body text including <. (say ExistingVariable is an int or something like that) Any helpful hints for how to convert this text with a ToString() at runtime?

  • Printing values of all fields in C++ structure

    - by Zhinkaas
    Say a simple structure struct abc { int a; char b; } I got some value in a variable defined as its structure and now I want to print below a = [some value] b = [some character] What is the best way to achieve this for an arbitrary structure without having to write a dump...(...) function for each of the structure I encounter?

  • How to check total cache size using a program

    - by user1888541
    so I'm having some trouble creating a program to measure cache size in C. I understand the basic concept of going about this but I'm still having trouble figuring out exactly what I am doing wrong. Basically, I create an array of varying length (going by power of 2s) and access each element in the array and put it in a dummy variable. I go through the array and do this around 1000 times to negate the "noise" that would otherwise occur if I only did it once to get an accurate measurement for time. Then, I look for the size that causes a big jump in access time. Unfortunately, this is where I am having my problem, I don't see this jump using my code and clearly I am doing something wrong. Another thing is that I used /proc/cpuinfo to check the cache and it said the size was 6114 but that was not a power of 2. I was told to go by powers of 2 to figure out the cache can anyone explain why this is? Here is the just of my code...I will post the rest if need be { struct timeval start; struct timeval end; // int n = 1; // change this to test different sizes int array_size = 1048576*n; // I'm trying to check the time "manually" first before creating a loop for the program to do it by itself this is why I have a separate "n" variable to increase the size char x = 0; int i =0, j=0; char *a; a =malloc(sizeof(char) * (array_size)); gettimeofday(&start,NULL); for(i=0; i<1000; i++) { for(j=0; j < array_size; j += 1) { x = a[j]; } } gettimeofday(&end,NULL); int timeTaken = (end.tv_sec * 1000000 + end.tv_usec) - (start.tv_sec *1000000 + start.tv_usec); printf("Time Taken: %d \n", timeTaken); printf("Average: %f \n", (double)timeTaken/((double)array_size); }

  • Push SVG String into Dom?

    - by Colin
    I have a javascript variable that basically looks like this: my_svg_image = '<circle cx="227.58331298828125" cy="102" r="3" style="fill:black;stroke-width:0" />'; It was loaded from my database. Is there a way I can parse that string and add it to the DOM with Javascript? I have svgweb set up, but don't see how I can get it to parse this string. Are there other libraries that might help?

  • Answered: Selecting even table rows from a table element

    - by mvrak
    The issue I am having is: How do I go from a variable pointing at an element to using CSS selectors? I want to make this work: function highlight(table) {$(table " > :even").toggleClass('highlight');} where table is a reference to a table element. I don't want answers that tell me to use $('#table') because that defeats the point of the generality I am trying to make. Thanks

  • How to tell Ruby not to serialize an attribute or how to overload marshal_dump properly?

    - by GregMoreno
    I have an attribute in my AR:B that is not serializeable. o = Discussion.find(6) Marshal.dump(o) TypeError: no marshal_dump is defined for class Proc from (irb):10:in `dump' I know the culprit and what I want is to set this variable to nil before any serialization takes place. I can do this but I'm stuck with the proper way to override marshal_dump def marshal_dump @problem = nil # what is the right return here? end Or is there is way to tell Ruby or AR not to serialize an object?

  • Is there any C/C++ editor in Linux that shows errors while typing

    - by MetallicPriest
    The Visual C++ editor has a great feature which is that it underlines errors with a red line while typing the code. So for example, if you are using a variable that is not declared, it will underline it with a red curly line. In this way, the programmer can resolve a lot of errors while typing and doesn't have to wait for compiling for noticing them. Now my question is, is there any editor for Linux that has this great feature?

  • C#: How to find the default value for a run-time Type?

    - by George Mauer
    So given a static type in your code you can do var defaultMyTypeVal = default(MyType); How would you do the same thing given a variable of Type so you can use it during runtime? In other words how do I implement the following method without a bunch of if statements or using Generics (because I will not know the type I'm passing into the method at compile time)? public object GetDefaultValueForType(Type type) { .... }

  • Editing code in Visual Studio 2008 in debug mode

    - by user279521
    I am curious to know if there is a way to edit code in VS 2008 right when it has hit a breakpoint and I am walking thru the code... can I modify the code (such as the value in a variable or if my stepthrough line is about to hit an if statement ... can I modify the if statement....etc)? So far, I have to stop running VS, modify the code, then hit F5 and wait till the breakpoint is hit again.

  • Using MCPKit framework in Cocoa app.

    - by pawz
    I'm trying to integrate the MCPKit MySQL framework available at http://mysql-cocoa.sourceforge.net/ into my cocoa application. I've added the framework and included the header file but when I try to define my first MCPConnection variable it says "MCPConnection undeclared". Is anyone successfully using MCPKit on leopard ? Or is there another framework that people use to access MySQL ?

  • Source Code Browser

    - by James Fielding
    Hello I'm looking for a piece of relatively simple software to browse large C++ project. What I would like is something that is somewhere between a simple text editor and a full-blown IDE like Eclipse. I would like syntax highlighting, a way to see all classes/methods defined in a file, a way to find where a particular method is called from and where a variable is declared/defined. Any ideas? Thank you!

  • Building a decision-making game in jQuery? Where would I store data....

    - by redconservatory
    I built a slideshow/decision-making game in Flash but would like to try to redo it using jQuery. The slideshow part seems simple enough, however I have a series of user decisions that I'm not sure how to approach. In flash, if the user makes a decision, I would just store this in a variable or shared local objects, is this the same for jQuery? i.e. mix regular javascript variables with the jQuery?
