• IPv6 Addresses causing Exchange Relay whitelists to fail

  Several of our new Exchange servers are failing to relay messages because it is communicating over IPv6 and not matching any receive connector I previously set up. I'm not sure how we are using IP6 since we only have a IPv4 network and we are routing across subnets. I discovered this by typing helo in from the source to the server that is confused by my IP6 address. I saw the IPv6 message and the custom message I gave this receive connector. (connectors with more permission have a different helo) 220 HUB01 client helo asdf 250 HUB01.nfp.com Hello [fe80::cd8:6087:7b1e:99d4%11] More info about my environment: I have two dedicated Exchange forests each with a distinct purpose. They have no trust and only communicate by SMTP. They both share the same DNS infrastructure via stub zones. What are my options? This is my guess, but I'm no IPv6 expert so I don't know which one is the best option Disable IPv6 Add the IPv6 address to the whitelist (isn't that IP dynamic?) • Exchange 2007 with Android activesync

  A few of our users noticed that it will stop working intermittently for them. I didn't believe it at first until I changed my android phone and it started occuring for me. It will just stop syncing completely, it looks like the server is blocking the device completely. This mainly occurs when they are using the wifi. I've done some testing. If I switch off the wifi and use the phone data plan it will work fine. When it's on the wifi network, I try and browse to the webmail/owa page and it says page not found! I did a dns lookup and they resolve correctly. If I use another device on the same wifi network, it can access the exchange servers fine. Sometimes the wifi network will just work without any issues. But when it fails, it looks like the phone constantly checks the server every second to see if it is online even though I've got it on manual sync. I was wondering whether it tries to sync too many times and exchange thinks its a denial service attack. My old android phone that works is Froyo and the new one is Icecream. People who have reported issues seems to be newer phones. They also tested their own wifi network at home and experience the same problem. We haven't patch our exchange recently before seeing this problem. Anyone has seen this issue?

• Inbox not updating in Exchange 2010, all users affected

  I'm battling against this darn issue this morning. We have the following setup: Big Hyper-V machine hosting the servers as VM's VM for CAS: WEB.XXX.local VM for Mailbox: EXC.XXX.local Servers are running Server 2008 R2 with Exchange 2010 SP1 Clients are all running Windows 7 Pro x64 with Outlook 2010 x64 The problem we're having is that nobody is able to see any emails received today (16th of October), but they are able to send externally. When I reply back to the email received externally, I don't get an NDR, yet the user cannot see my email. This is what I found and tried thus far: If we create a subfolder in Outlook 2010 and move any email from the inbox into that folder, changes will be immediately reflected in OWA We've been sending test emails to other users internaly and external email addresses and the sent items folder contains all those tests, synced properly to OWA as well Have tried crating a new profile, new emails are still missing Tried disabling Cache Mode, still no luck Also disabled "Download shared folders", still no luck Tried to setup a brand new Exchange mailbox and configured it on a VM that never had Outlook on it, still the same issue Tried restarting Exchange services on both CAS and Mailbox servers, no luck Tried rebooting both CAS and Mailbox servers, still no luck Performed a Mailbox Discovery on my admin account, emails from today are being found in the Discovery results, so the stuff is there, just not updating the user inboxes Any idea about what this hellish thing can be? I've done everything I can think of and also everything I could find out there. Let me know if you need any more details and thanks for reading this!

• Identifying Exchange 2010 regular process that is walking the mailbox database

  I have an Exchange 2010 server running on a SAN-backed platform. The platform does block-level backups based on a snapshot/incremental basis, that only capture changed data. I was surprised to see a regular period of time where the data changes were happening at a high, sustained rate. Due to the way this system works, that can lead to 1.2TB of stored data per month. The regularity implied a scheduled task, but it is not a fixed interval. It is approximately every 26-32hrs. The disks were performing read operations of ~5MB/s and write operations of ~4.5MB/s, for a period of 3-4hrs. The total written data was ~55-60GB. Reading on TechNet, I am wondering if the following is causing this: http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2011/12/14/database-maintenance-in-exchange-2010.aspx#checksumming The somewhat restrictive thing is that the process only happens at most once every 24 hours. I was able to investigate while it was running, finding the following: the process is store.exe it is working on the mailbox database files while running, it is generating .log files (in the mailbox database folder) consistent with database changes the mailbox database is ~60GB in size, which fits with the total data changes on each iteration I have currently switched to a fixed maintenance window, as a test. It's not clear whether this is the cause, as the symptoms fit, but are not conclusive. Does anyone have any suggestions for additional troubleshooting?

• ASP.NET Web API - Screencast series with downloadable sample code - Part 1

  There's a lot of great ASP.NET Web API content on the ASP.NET website at http://asp.net/web-api. I mentioned my screencast series in original announcement post, but we've since added the sample code so I thought it was worth pointing the series out specifically. This is an introductory screencast series that walks through from File / New Project to some more advanced scenarios like Custom Validation and Authorization. The screencast videos are all short (3-5 minutes) and the sample code for the series is both available for download and browsable online. I did the screencasts, but the samples were written by the ASP.NET Web API team. So - let's watch them together! Grab some popcorn and pay attention, because these are short. After each video, I'll talk about what I thought was important. I'm embedding the videos using HTML5 (MP4) with Silverlight fallback, but if something goes wrong or your browser / device / whatever doesn't support them, I'll include the link to where the videos are more professionally hosted on the ASP.NET site. Note also if you're following along with the samples that, since Part 1 just looks at the File / New Project step, the screencast part numbers are one ahead of the sample part numbers - so screencast 4 matches with sample code demo 3. Note: I started this as one long post for all 6 parts, but as it grew over 2000 words I figured it'd be better to break it up. Part 1: Your First Web API [Video and code on the ASP.NET site] This screencast starts with an overview of why you'd want to use ASP.NET Web API: Reach more clients (thinking beyond the browser to mobile clients, other applications, etc.) Scale (who doesn't love the cloud?!) Embrace HTTP (a focus on HTTP both on client and server really simplifies and focuses service interactions) Next, I start a new ASP.NET Web API application and show some of the basics of the ApiController. For simplicity I used Internet Explorer 9 F12 developer tools, but you're of course welcome to use whatever you'd like. A few important things to note: This class derives from an ApiController base class, not the standard ASP.NET MVC Controller base class. They're similar in places where API's and HTML returning controller uses are similar, and different where API and HTML use differ. A good example of where those things are different is in the routing conventions. In an HTTP controller, there's no need for an "action" to be specified, since the HTTP verbs are the actions. We don't need to do anything to map verbs to actions; when a request comes in to /api/values/5 with the DELETE HTTP verb, it'll automatically be handled by the Delete method in an ApiController. The comments above the API methods show sample URL's and HTTP verbs, so we can test out the first two GET methods by browsing to the site in IE9, hitting F12 to bring up the tools, and entering /api/values in the URL: That sample action returns a list of values. To get just one value back, we'd browse to /values/5: That's it for Part 1. In Part 2 we'll look at getting data (beyond hardcoded strings) and start building out a sample application.

• Is there a pure-managed DirectX wrapper?

  I'm currently in need of a purely managed code DirectX wrapper for .NET. While SlimDX is great, its use of unmanaged code makes it impossible to perform proper dead code analysis on, for the purpose of merging it into your assemblies. With a pure managed wrapper, I'd be able to include just the pieces I use in my assembly, allowing very, very small binaries (my goal is to be able to write 64k demos entirely using .NET). Does such a thing exist, or am I going to be getting intimate with P/Invoke?

I am missing a ton of PS cmdlets too, which I'm presuming are stored in '*.format.ps1xml' Can someone tell me where to start?

• MSExchangeMailSubmission service is not listed or running; sent mail not working

  I am running a new Exchange 2007 SP1 system. I moved the mailboxes from the old Exchange 2003 server, and incoming mail is working. But outgoing mail is not working at all; even inside my domain. Lots of debugging and searching lead me to believe that the problem is that the "Microsoft Exchange Mail Submission Service" (AKA MSExchangeMailSubmission) is not running. In fact, it's not even listed in the Services list. This document (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998342.aspx) says that this service is installed by the Mailbox server role. My server is running the Mailbox role, as well as the Hub Transport and Client Access roles. How do I get this service to show up in the list, so that I can start it up? Thanks.

  Fairly new to the Google Maps Api. I've got an array of data that I want to cycle through and plot on a map. Seems fairly simple, but all the multi-marker tutorials I have found are quite complex. • Reading a document's content from the gdata API?

  Hi, I'm using the java library to access the gdata api. I just want to be able to print the contents of a document. I setup my project to list all the docs in my feed, now that I have a document listing, I want to print its contents: for (DocumentListEntry entry : feed.getEntries()) { // Ok, how do we print the doc's contents now? entry.getContents(); } It looks like we're supposed to get the URL from the entry, then read the contents at the URL ourselves. I found a post stating that this is how we get that URL: MediaContent content = (MediaContent)entry.getContent(); String url = content.getUri(); but when I try to read from it, I get an html response saying 'this content has moved'. I read that this is because we have to authenticate our http-read method, but I'm not sure how to do that. Is there really no built-in way to do this? Thanks

The code below is working however it loads the family into revit, and then you have to manually drag it from the familys tree or insert using the relevant family tool.   I used GData API to pull in Calender info. It works fine if I use 1.6. But the same code, if I change to Android 2.0 & up, it would throw AuthenticationException.   I need to integrate a free/busy calendar integration with Zimbra. Unlike outlook, it seems, Zimbra requires polling their API. I need to be able to grab the free/busy data in background tasks for 10's of thousands of users on a regular time interval, preferably every few minutes. What would be the best way to implement this in a Rails application without bogging down our current resque tasks? I have considered moving this process to something like node.js or something similar in Ruby. The biggest problem is that we have no control over the IO, as each clients Zimbra instances could be slow and we don't want to create a huge backup in tasks. Thoughts and ideas?

• Strange javascript error when using Kongregates API

  In the hopes of finding a fellow unity3d developer also aiming for the Kongregate contest.. I've implemented the Kongregate API and can see that the game receives a call with my username and presents it ingame. I'm using Application.ExternalCall("kongregate.stats.submit",type,amount); where type is a string "Best Score" and amount is an int (1000 or something). This is the error I'm getting: You are trying to call recursively into the Flash Player which is not allowed. In most cases the JavaScript setTimeout function, can be used as a workaround. callASFunction:function(a,b){if(FABrid...tion, can be used as a workaround."); I'm wondering, has anyone else had this error or am I somehow doing something stupid? • Auto-provisioning hosting via API

  I've built a sort of 'software as a service' website package for a specific industry. What I am looking to do is create a payment gateway that allows users to subscribe-- and once the subscription is active, it would auto-provision a web hosting plan for them (a shared account on a server, probably in a chroot'd environment so each user would be insulated from others). Ideally it would auto-install a CMS as well. Tons of web hosts provide a simple reseller plan where I could manually create all the users' hosting accounts-- but so far none that I've found allow you to do this via API. Is there a way to do this short of writing custom shell scripts on something like an EC2 platform? I'd prefer to leave all the server maintenance in the hands of dedicated support staff rather than having to manually handle updates, backups, etc. Thanks for any tips.

  In unmanaged c++ dll i have a function which takes constant std::string as argument Prototype : void read ( const std::string &amp;imageSpec_ ) I call this function from managed c++ dll by passing a std::string. When i debug the unmanaged c++ code the parameter imageSpec_ shows the value correctly but does not allow me to copy that value in other variable. imageSpec_.copy( sFilename, 4052 ); It shows length of imageSpec_ as 0(zero). If i try copying like std::string sTempFileName(imageSpec_); this statement string new string is a empty string. But for std::string sTempFileName(imageSpec_.c_str()); this statement string gets copied correctly. i.e. with charpointer string is copied correctly. Copying this way will need a major change in unmanaged c++ code. I am building unmanaged code in Visual studio 6.0 and managed c++ in Visual studio 2008. Is there any specific setting or code change in managed c++ that will solve the issue?

  Hi, I've recently switched to Google Maps API V3. I'm working of a simple example which plots markers from an array, however I do not know how to center and zoom automatically with respect to the markers. I've searched the net high and low, including Google's own documentation, but have not found a clear answer. I know I could simply take an average of the co-ordinates, but how would I set the zoom accordingly? Could somebody please point me in the right direction? Perhaps you know of a good tutorial.   Hi. I'm writing a managed C++/CLI library wrapper for the MySQL embedded server. The mysql C library requires me to call mysql_thread_init() for every thread that will be using it, and mysql_thread_end() for each thread that exits after using it. Debugging any given VB.Net project I can see at least seven threads; I suppose my library will see only one thread if VB doesn't explicitly create worker threads itself (any confirmations on that?). However, I need clients to my library to be able to create worker threads if they need to, so my library must be thread-aware to some degree. The first option I could think of is to expose some "EnterThread()" and "LeaveThread()" methods in my class, so the client code will explicitly call them at the beginning and before exiting their DoWork() method. This should work if (1) .Net doesn't "magically" create threads the user isn't aware of and (2) the user is careful enough to have the methods called in a try/finally structure of some sort. However, I don't like it very much to have the user handle things manually like that, and I wonder if I could give her a hand on that matter. In a pure Win32 C/C++ DLL I do have the DllMain DLL_THREAD_ATTACH and DLL_THREAD_DETACH pseudo-events, and I could use them for calling mysql_thread_init() and mysql_thread_end() as needed, but there seem to be no such thing in C++/CLI managed code. At the expense of some performance (not much, I think) I can use TLS for detecting the "usage from a new thread" case, but I can imagine no mechanism for the thread exiting case. So, my questions are: (1) could .net create application threads without the user being aware of them? and (2) is there any mechanism I could use similar to DLL_THREAD_ATTACH / DLL_THREAD_DETACH from managed C++/CLI?
