  • How do I change Internet Explorer security settings for all users using Active Directory?

    I recently created an Intranet application for my company, but to work properly it must execute an ActiveX control to locally run a program. However, the only way I found for this to work was using Internet Explorer, and setting Intranet security to a personalized "very low" configuration for being able to execute ActiveX scripts without asking. I think there is a way to automatically configure IE's settings for all users from Active Directory, but I can't find it. Any help?

  • How do you hide Windows 7 Explorer Toolbar and Property Bar?

    In Windows 7, Windows Explorer has a large bar just above the status bar that contains properties of the highlighted item. Is it possible to hide this? It takes up a significant amount of screen space I'd prefer using in the file listing. Also, is it possible to hide the tool bar for the same reason? That's what I'm calling the bar near the top with "Organize, Open, Include in Library, Share With..."

I found and I'm using Gladinet which allowed dragging of a folder plus contents into SkyDrive, but not dragging of folders containing folders, its working but it has also failed to transfer a few times as well. Anything better? That can drag folders containing other folders? Any comment on how safe they are (as you obviously need to enter your windows live password)

  • What's the logic behind the Ctrl-Tab order in Internet Explorer 7?

    Using Ctrl+Tab in Internet Explorer 7 (on Windows XP) seems to follow no sequence that I can work out. Using Shift+Ctrl+Tab even jumps around with no clear logic in what tab order is being followed. It doesn't even work to the reverse as expected from using it in other programs, such as Firefox. Please explain to me how this key combo works in IE7 because I can't figure it out.

  • IE8 Developer Tools won't open

    Just installed IE8 on WinXP. Trying to use the Dev Tools but, clicking on the menu item or hitting F12 doesn't do anything. I can see the option in the tools menu, just can't use it. I've checked to make sure it wasn't opening minimized or off screen and I've checked the registry settings used to disable them. Those registry keys don't even exists. Suggestions? I was going to reinstall, but, thought I'd check here first.

  • jQuery doesn't work in IE8?

    Hi, I am working on a site here: mfm.treethink.net All the jquery works fine in Firefox, Chrome and Safari but on IE8 it gives me errors and the banner at the top doesn't work (which uses the crossSlide jQuery plugin) and as well the image rollovers don't work with the colour change. IE8 is telling me that the errors are on lines 53, 134 and 149 in the source, all of those lines are where the jquery function is declared. $(document).ready(function(){ I am running jquery 1.4. Oddly enough, the other piece of jQuery I have on that page works, the artist browse/select menu on the right. But the banner and image rollovers don't.     I have a legacy atl app that hosts a webbrowser control in an ATL window. I create an instance of the client to host the browser using the following sequence CComPtr<IOleObject> spOleObject; HRESULT hr = CoCreateInstance(CLSID_WebBrowser, NULL, CLSCTX_INPROC, ID_IOleObject,(void**)&spOleObject); spOleObject->SetClientSite(this); GetClientRect(&rcClient); hr = spOleObject->DoVerb(OLEIVERB_INPLACEACTIVATE, &msg, this, 0, m_hWnd, &rcClient); hr = AtlAdvise(m_spWebBrowser, GetUnknown(), DIID_DWebBrowserEvents2, &m_dwCookie); CComVariant navvar(navurl); m_spWebBrowser->Navigate2(&navvar, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL); This sequence works fine to create the initial browse window. The call to navigate2 works and if I look at the window via spy++ I have Shell Embedding - Shell DocObject View - Internet Explorer_Server. When a popup occurs (detected through NewWindow3) I launch a new window and execute the same code sequence for the new window. In the popup window the navigate2 doesnt work, and when I look at this new window in spy++ I just have Shell Embedding. I get the same problem even if I instantiate the popup window on startup, so its not related to NewWindow3 at all - it seems the second instance of the web control isnt instantiating even though all the calls return S_OK. This sequence worked fine under IE7 but now I am using IE8 and the popup window isnt working. There is clearly something I am missing but I cant guess what it may be. Any suggestions would be incredibly helpful.

    I am trying to replicate a service that is provided by Tynt.com that appends some text to a user's selection when copying. I understand that users don't particularly like this, but it is a client's request to append the URL and copyright notice whenever a user copies something from their website. In current browsers, I am able to do this by creating a DOM element, adding the selected text, appending the copyright text and then selecting the new node: var newSelection = document.createElement( 'div' ); newSelection.style.cssText = "height: 1px; width: 1px; overflow: hidden;"; if( window.getSelection ) { var selection = window.getSelection( ); if( selection.getRangeAt ) { var range = selection.getRangeAt( 0 ); newSelection.appendChild( range.cloneContents( ) ); appendCopyright( ); document.body.appendChild( newSelection ); selection.selectAllChildren( newSelection ); // ... remove element, return selection } } In IE9, this errors out on the selection.selectAllChildren( newSelection ) statement and I was able to figure out that this is because newSelection was effectively "hidden" from the viewport due to the styles applied in the second line above. Commenting that out works, but obviously the new node is shown to the end user. It appears that this was resolved in later versions of IE, but I am having trouble coming up with a workaround that is sufficient for IE9, a browser that I need to support. I've tried a variety of alternatives, like setting visibility: hidden;, positioning it off-screen, and trying some alternative selection functions, but they each present different problems. The error thrown by IE is: SCRIPT16389: Unspecified error.

  • Conditional CSS file doesn't override regular CSS

    I am using conditional comments to link to a css file (let's call it "IEonly.css") if the IE version is less than 8. I am trying to override some properties in the regular css file. Strangely enough, IEonly.css will set new css properties correctly, but it won't override the properties in the regular CSS file! (I am trying to make this work for IE7). Help!

  • IE Mixed Content Warining when using https URLs and http:443 URLs?

    I'm getting the good ole' "This page contains both secure and nonsecure items." dialog in IE when connecting to an HTTPS site. No big deal... I've just got something coming in over a non-secure connection so that should be an easy fix, right? So I go into "View Web Page Privacy Policy..." to look to see where I've included an HTTP file, and this is what I see... https://blah/path/to/file.htm https://blah/path/to/file.js http://blah:443/path/to/file.css Um... ok... so... there is an HTTP only URL being requested, but it is going over port 443 ("https://blah/" is shorthand for "http://blah:443/") so... What is the deal with this!? IE 7.0.5730.13 can't possibly be THAT stupid, can it? Is there an IIS setting that needs to be tweaked?
