  • "sh: /usr/sbin/xenstored: not found" - But it's there?

    What would cause running the file /usr/sbin/xenstored to print sh: /usr/sbin/xenstored: not found However, the file /usr/sbin/xenstored is there and is not a symbolic link. Actually I should be running this as root. That prints a similarly odd message. sudo: unable to execute /usr/sbin/xenstored: No such file or directory By the way, xenstored is not a script, it's an ELF executable. My guess is that it's because I haven't gotten all the dependent libraries installed. However, I would expect it to say something like this: ./xenstored: error while loading shared libraries: libxenctrl.so.4.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Which is true of running xenstored on a system that doesn't have all the required libraries. Why do I get "not found" vs the much more useful "cannot open shared object file"?

  • Trouble migrating Joomla from Linux to Windows server

    I'm having some trouble migrating a Joomla website from a Linux server to a Windows server. The database came over fine, Besides that, all I've done is download all the files from the current site, and change configuration.php so the log and tmp directories show "./tmp/" and "./logs/" I keep having an error in the PHP log stating PHP Fatal error: Class 'JTable' not found I've downloaded the site multiple times now, and I'm convinced this is a configuration problem, and not a missing file problem. I've even tried installing a mod for backup on the linux box to try and migrate the site, but sadly the mod had problems installing. The new server is running IIS 7.5 on Windows Web Server.   • Is there a way for Windows 7 to show remaining disk space in the status bar?

    This is really driving me nuts. I do a lot of moving media files to and from USB drives, and I am constantly looking to the status bar to see how much remaining space I have on a drive. It's quick, and doesn't involve any clicking. At least, that's what I used to do using Windows XP. Is there a way to get the status bar in Windows 7 to behave in the same way? I saw in a Wikipedia article that some features have been removed from Windows 7, including these two that seem to be affecting me the most: The size of any selected item and free disk space are not shown on the status bar. When no items are selected in a folder, neither the details pane nor the status bar show the total size of files in the folder. Are there any plug-ins or registry tweaks that can be made to return this functionality? If not what is the quickest way to get the remaining space on a drive without having to click on something and leaving the directory you are working in?

  • Office 2007 Calendar Overlays - Combine meetings that everybody shares

    I want to display approximately 10 people's calendar in Outlook 2007 using overlays. The problem is that they all share the same meeting a couple of times a week. Thus, I see that show up 10 times on a single day, which compresses what is actually displayed. Since they are all at the same meeting(s), it would be nice to have them just display once. Is this built into Office 2007?

    I'm working on getting a Wordpress MU install running on my VPS. I enabled the 'simple-vhost' mod and can access the site fine. The problem is I can only get to it from domain.com. If I try www.domain.com I get shown the lighthttpd page? I'd like to get everything pointing to one place. My DNS records look like this: *.domain.ORG xx.xx.xx domain.ORG 300 A domain.ORG xx.xx.xx domain.ORG 300 A WWW.domain.ORG domain.ORG domain.ORG 300 CNAME domain.ORG domain.ORG domain.ORG 300 MX What is happening?   • How can I connect to my Airport Extreme Shared Disk using Windows?

    I have a shared disk attached to my Airport Extreme, which I can connect to remotely in OS X through the finder via command - k, and entering in the proper address: afp://test.dyndns.org:1111 1111 being the port I've reserved for the disk in the AE port mapping. This is such a great feature, but I don't always have access to a Mac. My question is how can I connect to this drive via Windows XP? Please note, that the shared drive is a Drobo FS and formatted to handle both Windows and Mac OS. I've tried mapping a network drive via My Computer - Tools - Map Network Drive and entering: \\test.dyndns.org:1111\Drobo-Name I've also tried Start - Run and entering the same, both with and without the port #.

  • Dnsmasq offering IP via DHCP, but nobody is accepting

    As clients connect the logs light up with DHCPDISCOVER(wlan0) and DHCPOFFER(wlan0) but the IPs being offered are not being accepted. Currently dnsmasq offers IPs on eth1 which works flawlessly.     A friend forwarded a contact list to my gmail account from Outlook (2007 or 2010, not sure which). I can see there is an attachment in gmail but when I save it to my local drive it's just a plain text file containing the text This attachment is a MAPI 1.0 embedded message and is not supported by this mail system.   • Why do some emails sent in Outlook 2010 get stuck in Outbox with date set to "None"?

    I'm using Outlook 2010 against Exchange 2007. Emails I compose sometimes get stuck in the Outbox with date "None" as shown below. These emails never leave the outbox unless I delete them and recompose. Sometimes the problem happens again until I restart the client. Additionally, if I open a good (one with today's date) email from the outbox and then send it, it too gets dated "None" and never gets sent.

  • /etc/hosts.deny ignored in Ubuntu 14.04

    I have Apache2 running on Ubuntu 14.04LTS. To begin securing network access to the machine, I want to start by blocking everything, then make specific allow statements for specific subnets to browse to sites hosted in Apache. The Ubuntu Server is installed with no packages selected during install, the only packages added after install are: apt-get update; apt-get install apache2, php5 (with additional php5-modules), openssh-server, mysql-client Following are my /etc/hosts.deny & /etc/hosts.allow settings: /etc/hosts.deny ALL:ALL /etc/hosts.allow has no allow entries at all. I would expect all network protocols to be denied. The symptom is that I can still web browse to sites hosted on the Apache web server even though there is a deny all statement in /etc/hosts.deny The system was rebooted after the deny entry was added. Why would /etc/hosts.deny with ALL:ALL be ignored and allow http browsing to sites hosted on the apache web server?

  • Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V very slow

    I have been running several Hyper-V VMs on Windows Server 2008 R2 for the past couple of years and enjoying perfectly adequate performance for my testing/development/r&d environments. I'm a software developer so my hardware knowledge is basic however I built the rig using: •Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard •Intel Core i7 960 3.20GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) •24GB triple channel RAM The host OS is running on an OCZ SSD and all the VMs are running on a 2TB Marvell SATA3 RAID 0 array consisting of 2 Western Digital Caviar Black 7,200rpm drives. I have tested the speed of the 2TB drive and appear to be getting less than 3Mbs but it can adequately run a 4 VM farm including a DC, (SQL) database and IIS application servers. I recently upgraded the SSD on which the host runs to a 256GB OCZ Vertex 4 and took the opportunity to upgrade to Windows Server 2012 and installed the Hyper-V role. I tried importing one of my existing Windows Server 2008 R2 VMs (and converted it to .vhdx) plus I have tried creating a brand new Windows Server 2008 R2 VM but both are running extremely slowly and I can see nothing obvious using the host and guest Task Manager/Resource Monitor tools. In both cases the VM has 8GB RAM (fixed), 4 CPUs, fixed size HD (not expanding) and is using an external virtual network running on a separate NIC to the host. I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest available version and checked the virtualization settings. I have run out of "obvious" (to a developer) things to check/configure and my next option will be to re-install the host OS but before I do I would very much appreciate any advice from any experts out there.   • Replacing DropBox with: Amazon S3 + SSL + GPG/TrueCrypt + Mounting on OSX ??

    So, right now we're using DropBox to share various data files around between approximately 10 Mac OS X systems. However, we already have an S3 account and everyone on the lowest DropBox plan of $10/mo seems too expensive. So, I am contemplating something that would allow us to replace DropBox with our own home-grown solution. We are all fairly technical people and/or smart enough to follow some steps, so if it's not as "user friendly" as DropBox we're all comfortable with that. There are plenty of docs out there that have bits and pieces of what I want but some of the tools don't seem to fit the requirements: Transport security via SSL to the bucket Encryption of bucket contents Bi-directional syncing Most of the scripts I can find on the internet use "duplicity" which appears to fail #1 (it doesn't look like duplicity supports SSL to S3 - the docs don't state but the protocol looks plain old http http://www.nongnu.org/duplicity/duplicity.1.html#sect6 ) Many scripts use gpg to encrypt files. This seems like it could work, however I have to make sure that each OSX client is able to use the same key to encrypt and decrypt files (key management is left to me to manage). Finally, most of the scripts use one-way replication, e.g. using Amazon S3 as a simple backup store. As we'd be using Amazon S3 as the "repository" they fail this one. Whew. So, I'd love a single tool that does this but after an exhaustive search I don't think one exists. I'd be happy just knowing which tools out there can fulfill my 3 requirements, after that I can stitch together the rest. Any thoughts? THANKS!

Both systems uses ZFS and were independently created with a zpool name of 'rpool'. While running Solaris 10u8 on the first disk, how do I mount the second ZFS hard disk (at /dev/dsk/c1d1s0) on an arbitrary mount point (like /a) for diagnostics?

  • Best labeler for the server room?

    Right now, I've got a Brother P-touch labeler that prints four or five sizes of text on one long label. It has features such as italics and bold. It's...non-ideal. What do you use in your server room? I have heard of labelers that will print vertically as well as horizontally, or which can produce labels for cable management as well. I also think it would be great to be able to produce barcodes for my tapes (LTO-3). So basically, I would like a labeler that prints normal, can print cable labels, and can print barcodes. Unicorn optional. Any ideas, or could you even suggest the best labeler for each solution?

  • What is the best policy for user account on a Windows 7 Media Center shared by the whole family

    What is a good way to manage user accounts for a Windows 7 Media Center PC that is part of an entertainment center for a family? Each family member keeps most of their personal stuff on their own computer. I was thinking the simple approach would be to create an admin account for management and then just create a "Family" user account w/o a password that is the default account used by the media center. This account would be used for the PVR, playing blu rays, music, etc. I don't think it is practical for someone to have to log in every time they use the media center.

  • Lookup Multiple Results for Multiple Criteria

    I've got a list of parent SKUs for items I need to create in my inventory system. This list has been finely paired down to the 165 products we would like to carry. However, each one of these 165 SKUs has between 2 and 8 child SKUs of different colors, sizes, etc. Those are stored on a different worksheet, mixed into around 2500 items. Those are the SKUs I need to input into my inventory system. Here is what it looks like. Sheet 1 is just SKUs: A 1 2 3 4 Sheet 2 is comprised of all the child SKUs, with parent SKUs in column B. Not all parents have the same number of children: A B 1BLKM 1 1BLKL 1 1BLUM 1 2BLKM 2 2BLKL 2 2BLUM 2 2ORAM 2 3BLKM 3 3BLUM 3 I want to look up all of the child SKUs for the Parent SKU list that has been fine tuned. Parent SKU is included as a column on the child SKU worksheet. I need to lookup all matches of the Parent SKU, then continue to move down the parent SKU list until all matches for all 165 parent items have been found. It seems like every function I try can't use an Array for input. Is there a way to do this with Lookup or some combination of index, match, row, etc? Any way at all to do it without VBA? Or maybe even a VBA solution with code that I can understand, as someone who hasn't used VBA before.

  • Updating snort rules automatically

    I've been working on getting my snort machine up and running, and working through Snort IDS and IPS Toolkit. The authors suggest using Oinkmaster, but on that website, the last update was February of 2008. That seems sort of...odd. Maybe there haven't been any issues with oinkmaster in the past year and a half, but it made me wonder if there was another solution that I don't know about. If you use snort, do you automatically update your rules, and if so, how?

  • Folder permissions, red x on user object

    This question was asked before but was no answer. On shared folders on the file server, for the domain user name object under the security tab, the icon has a red x. There are no symptoms, the users have full access, there is just a red x on the icon for their name. Why is this? For clarification, logged into the windows 2008 r2 file server, browse to a users shared folder, right click on the folder, hit properties, click the security tab. The object representing the users domain name has a little red x on the lower right hand corner of the icon that looks like a single man. There are no symptoms beyond me wondering why the red x is there.
