• Using fields from an association (has_one) model with formtastic in rails

- by subprime
I searched and tried a lot, but I can't accomplish it as I want.. so here's my problem. My models are: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :profile accepts_nested_attributes_for :profile end class Profile < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :user_id, :form, :title, :name, :surname, :street, :housenumber, :zipcode, :place, :phone, :mobile, :fax, :url belongs_to :user end In my view: <% semantic_form_for @user do |form| %> <%= form.inputs :login, :email, :password%> <% form.semantic_fields_for :profile do |profile| %> <%= profile.inputs %> <% end %> <%= form.buttons %> <% end %> My problem is that when I edit a person then it shows me the data on the profile. I would, that the fields from the profile even when creating a user are displayed. Thanks a lot!

• Making a rails inflection for possessive strings?

- by chovy
I would like to create a method in additional to the default 'foo'.titlecase that will correctly add "possessiveness" to it. The string is a user's name (<- just did one right there! ) For example: "sam" is the user <%= user.titlecase.possessive + ' Profile' % = #Sam's Profile It just needs to handle edge cases like: Steelers's Profile ( should be Steelers' Profile) Ross's Profile ( should be Ross' Profile )

• What does "Use mandatory profiles on the RD Session Host server" do?

- by Scott Chamberlain
The description for "Use mandatory profiles on the RD Session Host server" is a little ambiguous: This policy setting allows you to specify whether Remote Desktop Services uses a mandatory profile for all users connecting remotely to the RD Session Host server. If you enable this policy setting, Remote Desktop Services uses the path specified in the Set path for Remote Desktop Services Roaming User Profile policy setting as the root folder for the mandatory user profile. All users connecting remotely to the RD Session Host server use the same user profile. If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, mandatory user profiles are not used by users connecting remotely to the RD Session Host server. I have a situation where only some users need to use mandatory profiles for logging in to a Remote Desktop Session Host. If I have some users with ntuser.dat and some users ntuser.man in their roaming profile what will RD Session Host do To a user who has ntuser.man in their roaming profile and has the setting set to Disabled? To a user who has ntuser.dat in their roaming profile and has the setting set to Enabled?

• Using cProfile results with KCacheGrind

- by Adam Luchjenbroers
I'm using cProfile to profile my Python program. Based upon this talk I was under the impression that KCacheGrind could parse and display the output from cProfile. However, when I go to import the file, KCacheGrind just displays an 'Unknown File Format' error in the status bar and sits there displaying nothing. Is there something special I need to do before my profiling stats are compatible with KCacheGrind? ... if profile: import cProfile profileFileName = 'Profiles/pythonray_' + time.strftime('%Y%m%d_%H%M%S') + '.profile' profile = cProfile.Profile() profile.run('pilImage = camera.render(scene, samplePattern)') profile.dump_stats(profileFileName) profile.print_stats() else: pilImage = camera.render(scene, samplePattern) ... • Rails: Modeling an optional relation in ActiveRecord

- by Hassinus
I would like to map a relation between two Rails models, where one side can be optionnal. Let's me be more precise... I have two models: Profile that stores user profile information (name, age,...) and User model that stores user access to the application (email, password,...). To give you more information, User model is handled by Devise gem for signup/signin. Here is the scenario of my app: 1/ When a user register, a new row is created in User table and there is an equivalent in Profile table. This leads to the following script: class User < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :profile end 2/ A user can create it's profile without registering (kind of public profile with public information), so a row in Profile doesn't have necessarily a User row equivalent (here is the optional relation, the 0..1 relation in UML). Question: What is the corresponding script to put in class Profile < AR::Base to map optionally with User? Thanks in advance.

• Visual Studio 2010 Winform Application – Unable to resolve custom assemblies?

- by Harish Ranganathan
Recently I surfaced a problem where, one of my friend had a tough time in getting rid of an assembly reference error. Despite adding reference to the assembly, while referencing it in code, it was spitting out the “The type or namespace name ‘ASSEMBLYNAME’ could not be found” error. This was a migration project and owing to the above error, it was throwing another 100 errors. We tried adding reference to the assembly in other projects and it was not even resolving the namespace while typing out in the using section. Upon further digging into the error warnings, it indicated something to do with the .NET Framework targeted i.e. 4.0. My suspicion grew since the target framework was 4.0 and the assembly should be able to be recognized. Then, when we checked “Project – “<APPNAME> Properties…”, the issue was with the default target framework which is “.NET Framework 4 Client Profile” By default, Visual Studio 2010 creates Windows Forms App/WPF Apps with the Target Framework set to .NET Framework 4 Client Profile. This is to minimize the framework size required to be bundled along with the app. Client Profile is new feature since .NET 3.5 SP1 that allows users to package a minified version of .NET Framework that doesn’t include stuff such as ASP.NET, Server programming assemblies and few other assemblies which are typically never used in the Desktop Applications. Since the .NET Framework client profile is a minified version, it doesn’t contain all the assemblies related to Web services and other deprecated assemblies. However, this application is a migration app and needed some of the references from Services and hence couldn’t run. Once, we changed the Target Framework to .NET Framework 4 instead of the default client profile, the application compiled. Here is link to a very nice article that explains the features of .NET Framework 4 client Profile, the assemblies supported by default etc., http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jgoldb/archive/2010/04/12/what-s-new-in-net-framework-4-client-profile-rtm.aspx Cheers !!

• How To Switch Back to Outlook 2007 After the 2010 Beta Ends

- by Matthew Guay
Are you switching back to Outlook 2007 after trying out Office 2010 beta? Here’s how you can restore your Outlook data and keep everything working fine after the switch. Whenever you install a newer version of Outlook, it will convert your profile and data files to the latest format. This makes them work the best in the newer version of Outlook, but may cause problems if you decide to revert to an older version. If you installed Outlook 2010 beta, it automatically imported and converted your profile from Outlook 2007. When the beta expires, you will either have to reinstall Office 2007 or purchase a copy of Office 2010. If you choose to reinstall Office 2007, you may notice an error message each time you open Outlook. Outlook will still work fine and all of your data will be saved, but this error message can get annoying. Here’s how you can create a new profile, import all of your old data, and get rid of this error message. Banish the Error Message with a New Profile To get rid of this error message, we need to create a new Outlook profile. First, make sure your Outlook data files are backed up. Your messages, contacts, calendar, and more are stored in a .pst file in your appdata folder. Enter the following in the address bar of an Explorer window to open your Outlook data folder, and replace username with your user name: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook Copy the Outlook Personal Folders (.pst) files that contain your data. Its name is usually your email address, though it may have a different name. If in doubt, select all of the Outlook Personal Folders files, copy them, and save them in another safe place (such as your Documents folder). Now, let’s remove your old profile. Open Control Panel, and select Mail. In Windows Vista or 7, simply enter “Mail” in the search box and select the first entry. Click the “Show Profiles…” button. Now, select your Outlook profile, and click Remove. This will not delete your data files, but will remove them from Outlook. Press Yes to confirm that you wish to remove this profile. Open Outlook, and you will be asked to create a new profile. Enter a name for your new profile, and press Ok. Now enter your email account information to setup Outlook as normal. Outlook will attempt to automatically configure your account settings. This usually works for accounts with popular email systems, but if it fails to find your information you can enter it manually. Press finish when everything’s done. Outlook will now go ahead and download messages from your email account. In our test, we used a Gmail account that still had all of our old messages online. Those files are backed up in our old Outlook data files, so we can save time and not download them. Click the Send/Receive button on the bottom of the window, and select “Cancel Send/Receive”. Restore Your Old Outlook Data Let’s add our old Outlook file back to Outlook 2007. Exit Outlook, and then go back to Control Panel, and select Mail as above. This time, click the Data Files button. Click the Add button on the top left. Select “Office Outlook Personal Folders File (.pst)”, and click Ok. Now, select your old Outlook data file. It should be in the folder that opens by default; if not, browse to the backup copy we saved earlier, and select it. Press Ok at the next dialog to accept the default settings. Now, select the data file we just imported, and click “Set as Default”. Now, all of your old messages, appointments, contacts, and everything else will be right in Outlook ready for you. Click Ok, and then open Outlook to see the change. All of the data that was in Outlook 2010 is now ready to use in Outlook 2007. You won’t have to wait to re-download all of your emails from the server since everything’s still here ready to be used. And when you open Outlook, you won’t see any error messages, either! Conclusion Migrating your Outlook profile back to Outlook 2007 is fairly easy, and with these steps, you can avoid seeing an error message every time you open Outlook. With all your data in tact, you’re ready to get back to work instead of getting frustrated with Outlook. Many of us use webmail and keep all of our messages in the cloud, but even on broadband connections it can take a long time to download several gigabytes of emails. • Why does a user have to enter "Profile" data to enter data into other tables?

- by Greg McNulty
EDIT It appears the user has to enter some data for his profile, otherwise I get this error below. I guess if there is no profile data, the user can not continue to enter data in other tables by default? I do not want to make entering user profile data a requirement to use the rest of the sites functionality, how can I get around this? Currently I have been testing everything with the same user and everything has been working fine. However, when I created a new user for the very first time and tried to enter data into my custom table, I get the following error. The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_UserData_aspnet_Profile". The conflict occurred in database "C:\ISTATE\APP_DATA\ASPNETDB.MDF", table "dbo.aspnet_Profile", column 'UserId'. The statement has been terminated. Not sure why I am getting this error. I have the user controls set up in ASP.NET 3.5 however all I am using is my own table or at least that I am aware of. I have a custom UserData table that includes the columns: id, UserProfileID, CL, LL, SL, DateTime (id is the auto incremented int) The intent is that all users will add their data in this table and as I mentioned above it has been working fine for my original first user I created. However, when i created a new user I am getting this problem. Here is the code that updates the database. protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { //connect to database MySqlConnection database = new MySqlConnection(); database.CreateConn(); //create command object Command = new SqlCommand(queryString, database.Connection); //add parameters. used to prevent sql injection Command.Parameters.Add("@UID", SqlDbType.UniqueIdentifier); Command.Parameters["@UID"].Value = Membership.GetUser().ProviderUserKey; Command.Parameters.Add("@CL", SqlDbType.Int); Command.Parameters["@CL"].Value = InCL.Text; Command.Parameters.Add("@LL", SqlDbType.Int); Command.Parameters["@LL"].Value = InLL.Text; Command.Parameters.Add("@SL", SqlDbType.Int); Command.Parameters["@SL"].Value = InSL.Text; Command.ExecuteNonQuery(); } Source Error: Line 84: Command.ExecuteNonQuery();

• How can I write a "user can only access own profile page" type of security check in Play Framework?

- by karianneberg
I have a Play framework application that has a model like this: A Company has one and only one User associated with it. I have URLs like http://www.example.com/companies/1234, http://www.example.com/companies/1234/departments, http://www.example.com/companies/1234/departments/employees and so on. The numbers are the company id's, not the user id's. I want that normal users (not admins) should only be able to access their own profile pages, not other people's profile pages. So a user associated with the company with id 1234 should not be able to access the URL http://www.example.com/companies/6789 I tried to accomplish this by overriding Secure.check() and comparing the request parameter "id" to the ID of the company associated with the logged in user. However, this obviously fails if the parameter is called anything else than "id". Does anyone know how this could be accomplished?

• Sharepoint 2010, get the Distinct Values of a User Profile Property?

- by Michael Stum
Is there any way in SharePoint 2010 to get the Distinct values of a property accross all users? For example, I want a list of all Departments in the Profile Store. In SQL I can do SELECT DISTINCT(PropertyVal) FROM [ProfileDB].[dbo].[UserProfileValue] WHERE PropertyID = 14 but accessing the SQL Database is a big no-no of course, so I wonder if there is something in the object model? Note that accessing the User Information List on an SPSite is not good enough, as only a fraction of all users is in that list. I want to get it directly from the Profile Store.

• Is it possible to edit the web pages in the Profile Manager (OSX Lion Server) user portal?

- by sglantz
When setting up Profile Manager in Lion Server, there are a few web pages that are generated for web management of both devices and profiles. Is it possible to edit these pages in any way? I am just looking to customize the look and feel without changing the functionality. If editing is possible, where are these pages stored? I have looked through the /Library/Server/ProfileManager and /Library/Server/Web folders without any luck. This is one particular page I would like to edit. Ideally I would like to be able to edit the HTML directly. I am looking to match the page's style with a variety of other pages hosted on the server.

• How can you change the OST data file that a Windows/Outlook email profile points to?

- by Howiecamp
I'm running Outlook 2007 on Windows 7. I'd like to change the OST data file that a Windows/Outlook email profile points to. I've attempt to change it as follows: Go in to the "Mail" Control Panel applet Click the "Data Files..." button Double-click the particular email account Click the "Advanced" tab Click the "Offline Folder File Settings..." button The resulting dialog box has the "File:" textbox and the "Browse" button disabled. I've searched the registry for a match (so I could possibly change it there) but found nothing.

• Why should I -minus flags of eselect profile? [closed]

- by Xsi
Why not just disable profile and add + + + , and thats it? Rationale. Could I ask ??? second question: where is there a short YES\NO Questions & Answers service? My questions were a subject to closing and deletion at Unix&Linux (as they were not real - we know perfectly admins can't answer and think to help others), but they were long forming in my head, since I'm a very novice user to Linux. My questions were some of that size and were from my point, all-specific, they were not fault ones, but knowledge q's (not to fault), although some not banned questions of others are as short as a line (U&L).

• Keeping my zsh or bash profile synced up on all my machines.

- by Joseph Silvashy
I work on several different machines, all of which are *nix. I have a lot of specific things I like my shell to, or the prompt to look like, or aliases, etc, etc. I'm sure all of you folks deal with this as well. What do you think the best way to keep all my machines' shells to act the same? First off, I'm aware that different machines will need different paths to bins and other differences, so my first inclination is to just include a file at the end of my profile, this is the one that we'll keep in sync. What is the best way to keep files synced up? I can put the file on a remote system, and perhaps use git, to push, then pull my changes every once and a while. However, isn't Rsync better suited for this?

• Is it a bad idea to make roaming profile share available offline?

- by Bryan
This is regarding a Windows 2008 R2 domain. The Documents, Desktop, Application Data folders are all redirected to users' home directory (mapped as Z:). The users home directory is configured to be offline for mobile users. User profiles are configured as roaming, and located on a separate share (not mapped as a network drive), just accessed via an UNC path. Would it be a good or idea to make the roaming profile share available offline for mobile users using the caching option "All files and programs that users open from the share will be automatically available offline"?

• Two users using the same same user profile while not in a domain.

- by Scott Chamberlain
I have a windows server 2003 acting as a terminal server, this computer is not a member of any domain. We demo our product on the server by creating a user account. The person logs in uses the demo for a few weeks and when they are done we delete the user account. However every time we do this it creates a new folder in C:\Documents and Settings\. I know with domains you can have many users point at one profile and make it read only so all changes are dumped afterwords, but is there a way to do that when the machine is not on a domain? I would really like it if I didn't have to remote in and clean up the folders every time.

• How to set the network profile of Windows 7 via group policy?

- by Ricket
We are deploying client computers and in testing noticed that the first time the user logs into the computer, it asks them if the location is a home, work, or public location. We are worried that some users in our workplace might misread it (or not read it at all) and click Public, thus likely denying our access to the computer and messing up security settings and such. Can we set our network to be a "Work Network" location via group policy or some other mechanism of our Windows Domain so that the user is not prompted when connected to our network? Also these are laptops, so we don't want every network they connect to be set as work network, and we have several access points (wired and three wireless) which our users often switch between so I'm not yet sure if it reprompts with each access point but I have the feeling it will, and I would like all of these to be set to the Work profile type.

• Automatically changing a power profile when a laptop (un)docks?

- by Dan
I'm looking for a way to automatically change what happens when I close my laptop's lid depending on if it's in its docking station or not. In an idea world, the on-close behavior would be nothing (when docked) and sleep (when un-docked), but there only seems to be options for behavior when plugged-in and when on battery (when it's plugged in but not docked, I'd like it to sleep when closed). My initial idea would be to create a new power profile with this behavior, but I can't find a way to have it switch when docked (or for the power system to take its docked status into account at all). Any idea?

• Mac app to apply certain settings based on selected location (profile)?

- by Jonathan
When my MacBook is connected to my Thunderbolt Display, I want WiFi to be turned off, Bluetooth to be turned on and the screen brightness to be at max. On the road I want WiFi to be turned on, Bluetooth to be turned off and the screen brightness to be somewhere in the middle. It would be easy if there was an application that would let me create several profiles (like 'Home' and 'On the road'), which I could easily select (from Dashboard or the menu bar). The profile settings would then be applied instantly. Does an application like this exist?
