• Locking sharepoint list item

  I have a sharepoint custom list which has 5 columns ..the user should fill in first three columns and the other two should be locked..when the user enters the items and start the workflow if the workflow gets approved the 3 columns should be locked for editing and then the other two should be available for editing . Can someone please tell me how can i achieve this. Thanks

  I have a windows 7,32 bit laptop. I am the administrator with all permissions. when I click on the SQL server 2008R2 set up file,it says : "SQL server set up has encountered the following error:Failed to retreive data for this request" click on OK. I have uninstalled all the components of SQL from control panel. I used Windows installer clean up to remove the files(which I must have not done ),but still no go.   Are you a sys admin that uses emacs? What tools/plugins do you find essential? In my organization the programmers tend to use emacs whereas the sys admins gravitate towards vim. Since we have 4:1 programmers:sys admins, the global emacs config has a lot more goodness but it doesn't fit nicely into my workflow since I'm used to starting/stopping vim on remote hosts 1000 times a day Does emacs have a place in your sys admin workflow?

• How can I get TFS 2010 to build each project to a separate directory?

  In our project, we'd like to have our TFS build put each project into its own folder under the drop folder, instead of dropping all of the files into one flat structure. To illustrate, we'd like to see something like this: DropFolder/ Foo/ foo.exe Bar/ bar.dll Baz baz.dll This is basically the same question as was asked here, but now that we're using workflow-based builds, those solutions don't seem to work. The solution using the CustomizableOutDir property looked like it would work best for us, but I can't get that property to be recognized. I customized our workflow to pass it in to MSBuild as a command line argument (/p:CustomizableOutDir=true), but it seems MSBuild just ignores it and puts the output into the OutDir given by the workflow. I looked at the build logs, and I can see that the CustomizableOutDir and OutDir properties are both getting set in the command line args to MSBuild. I still need OutDir to be passed in so that I can copy my files to TeamBuildOutDir at the end. Any idea why my CustomizableOutDir parameter isn't getting recognized, or if there's a better way to achieve this?

• SharePoint Permissions

  I have a custom workflow. This workflow removes permissions to items when an item is added (example an item is added by a service account and once added those permissions need to be removed from that item). This works as I have the service account 'hard coded' in the custom workflow. Now I would like to remove this hard coding and when a item is added to a list I would like to iterate through all users that have access to the list item. If a user matches some algorithm then remove that user from the item permissions which will be 0 to many. The piece I'm stuggling with is how to iterage all users with permission to a SPListItem. Any thoughts on how to accomplish this? Thanks in advance!

  Hi, This is probably a very simple question but I'm new to nHibernate and I'm having trouble working this out. I have a Page object, which can have many Region objects. I also have a Workflow object. Page and Region objects both have a relationship to Workflow and it's this double association that I'm having trouble with. The PageMap has HasMany(Function(x) x.Regions).Cascade.All() And the RegionMap has: References(Function(x) x.Page) And this all seems to work. But how do I define the relationship between Workflow and these two objects?

  I have been working on Flash games professionally for two years now and somehow, having our artists producing assets the right way is one of our biggest challenge. More precisely, it is very hard to have them following any kind of structure and/or standards, nor taking into consideration performance. I would say also the most of our issues concerns UI and related animations. Our current workflow is (on a Facebook hidden object game) : Artists produce PSD and animate prototypes in Flash Artists re-organize their FLA files to be a bit more "programmer friendly" Programmers retouches assets until they have the right structure and export classes inside a SWC, from Flash Programmers try to improve performances, sometimes degrading the quality of game graphics Our main idea is to hire somebody dedicated to prepare assets for programmers but I am really looking forward to improving the pipeline. I was wondering if you guys have tips of any kind to improve this workflow, whether it be team organization, training, tools or tips with Flash. Any explanation on your asset pipeline is well appreciated too.

All three look good, are easy to use, and I came to this conclusion; Asana is the easiest to use ActiveCollab is the feature rich and easiest flow BaseCamp is the best UX / design But I didn't really find my workflow was any more quicker / efficient, in fact it was a bit slower and organized. Is there a realistic place for them in workflow - should programmers use them for themselves, or only when a project manager can take control of it?

  We are now successfully, able build Dynamics NAV solutions using the TFS Build workflow mechanisms. Lots of test builds were made, the builds can restore the NAV Database and start from a fresh solution, take latest of the NAV objects and then import it to Navision and call the compile method. The workflow is also able to generate FOB files as output which can be directly shipped to the customers. I think this is the First in the world implementation of the TFS build concepts in conjunction with NAV. I think this is a time to change the thinking caps and try to approach ERP development and include the practises of ALM into ERP Product Development.

• Is the "App" side of Windows 8 practical for programmers?

  I like the tablet-friendliness of Windows 8 Apps, and some of the programming apps seem pretty neat, but there are many aspects that make me think I would have difficulty using this format for an efficient programming environment: Unlike the desktop + multiple windows setup, I can't simply drag my files around from source, to FTP or SFTP file managers, between folders, web applications, and into other apps, etc. I can't switch between apps as fast. This could have different implications with different monitor setups, but it seems like a shaky setup for an agile workflow. The split screen functionality is cool, but it doesn't seem to allow for as much maneuverability as the classic desktop setup. This could just require me getting used to the top-left corner shortcut, but it does bother me that I have to move my mouse all the way up there to see my different windows. These aspects could become relevant in the event that Windows were to move further towards their "app" structure and less towards the Windows 7 style. I'm wondering if anyone has been able to utilize the "App" side of Windows 8 for an efficient programming workflow.

• Are these GitHub features implemented in BitBucket?

  I recently joined a company that, while using git for version control, uses BitBucket as remote/master + git interface for projects. This is my first exposure to BitBucket. There are a couple of GitHub features I rely heavily on in my daily workflow and I am trying to find their counterpart in BitBucket or else how I can recreate the same functionality if it is not provided out-of-the-box. In particular, in GitHub I rely heavily on tags (which I realize reside in git) to link commits to issues (feature request, bug report, etc.); in addition, given projects specs are often decomposed into milestones, I use the milestone feature in GitHub Issues to track progress towards our project milestones (ie, in GitHub a milestone is comprised of a sequence of issues, and the commit tagged with the last remaining issue under that Milestone, causes that Milestone to be annotated as completed. I suspect this workflow can be recreated using Jira, which my new employer also uses, but before trying that, I want to learn if it's already implemented and I just can't find it.

• Good bug tracking with Sharepoint?

  At my place of work, it has been decided to move many processes to Sharepoint. I'm now looking into how Sharepoint can be used for bug tracking (à la Mantis, FogBugz etc. but within Sharepoint). Specifically, we're using a collaboration room and the solution must work inside that. I know that I can create lists using an "Issue tracker" template, but it lacks workflow, integrated correspondence (like FogBugz), and audit log (any user can edit any field any time, without it being noted anywhere). That's not sufficient, so I am looking for "bigger" solutions but haven't yet found anything at all. This question is similar but aims at Helpdesk use; we aim at bug tracking and change requests to a system. I'm open to suggestions! As I'm not an administrator, I can't just grab a Sharepoint component and install it for testing. I'm looking for experiences, documentation, white papers, screen shots -- the actual downloadable will be relevant later. Ideally, some of these matters should be covered: Support for different ticket types (bug, feature, inquiry, internal task). Configurable workflow per ticket type, no fixed number of steps. Configurable read/write permissions per field and per workflow status. Configurable dashboard for managers with nice charts. Configurable email notifications. Correspondence à la FogBugz. • Salesforce: Fire a SOAP Outbound Message using Apex

  I have an existing Workflow Rule that fires of a (SOAP) Outbound Message when a certain type of object is created or updated. That works fine. I want to extend it so that a similar Outbound Message is also sent when the objects are deleted. According to this discussion, Workflow Rules cannot be made to fire based on object deletions, so I have to write an Apex Trigger instead. So the question is, how do I kick off a SOAP Outbound Message from within Apex?
