• How does one record audio from a Javascript based webapp?

  I'm trying to write a web-app that records WAV files (eg: from the user's microphone). I know Javascript alone can not do this, but I'm interested in the least proprietary method to augment my Javascript with. My targeted browsers are Firefox for PC and Mac (so no ActiveX). Please share your experiences with this. I gather it can be done with Flash (but not as a WAV formated file). I gather it can be done with Java (but not without code-signing). Are these the only options? @dominic-mazzoni I'd like to record the file as a WAV because because the purpose of the webapp will be to assemble a library of good quality short soundbites. I estimate upload will be 50 MB, which is well worth it for the quality. The app will only be used on our intranet. • jquery animate() problem (syntax ?)

  $('#somediv').stop(false, true).animate({marginLeft: '-=' + e.width() + 'px'}, options.speed, function(){ options.onNewSlide() }) e.with() returns 640 opctions.speed contains 800 options.onNewSlide() contains a a custom callback function It works fine in firefox. But i debugged it with jquery.lint because it was throwing some random error in IE. lint tells me: When I called animate(...) with your args, an error was thrown! TypeError: c.speed is not a function { message="c.speed is not a function", more...} You passed: [Object { marginLeft="-=640px"}, 800, function()] and it indicates me the line i have posted. I have checked the jquery doc, but my syntax seams ok. Do you know what i am doing wrong?   i was running a test remotely on internet explorer, and when using navigate().to() selenium returns me this: "12:13:58.770 INFO - WebDriver remote server: Exception: The driver reported that the command timed out. There may be several reasons for this. Check that the destinationsite is in IE's 'Trusted Sites' (accessed from Tools-Internet Options in the 'Security' tab) If it is a trusted site, then the request may have taken more thana minute to finish." i've done what's said. but when looking at the browsers the page is loaded, but still this message continues. i've already tried as simon told me: "(16:32:54) simonstewart: ponto: http://code.google.com/p/selenium/wiki/FrequentlyAskedQuestions#Q:_The_does_not_work_well_on_Vista._How_do_I_get_it_to_work_as_e " but did not solve. could it be google analytics that on the background is getting data or something like that? ps: i ran the test on firefox and it works well. i've tried on Windows 7 and Windows XP, and Internet Explorer 7 and Internet Explorer 8.

• IE - hidden radio button not checked when the corresponding label is clicked

  I just noticed a strange behaviour in IE7. I have radio buttons with associated labels as follows: <input type="radio" name="filter" id="filter_1" value="Activities" checked="checked" /> <label for="filter_1">Activities</label> <input type="radio" name="filter" id="filter_2" value="Services" /> <label for="filter_2">Services</label> The radio button is hidden via css with display:none or visibility: hidden (don't ask) The problem is - when I click the label in IE7 (haven't looked at other IE versions yet) the associated radio button is not actually checked. I confirmed this with jquery - the label click event is fired, but the radio button click event is not. A form post also confirms that the checked radio button does not change. This works correctly in firefox, and also works correctly if I remove the CSS that hides the radio buttons. Is this an IE bug or am I missing something?

• Google CDN not gzipping jquery

  If I navigate here: http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery/jquery-1.4.2.min.js I download 70k using Firefox 3.6.3 and I can confirm it is sending Accept-Encoding: gzip. If I use the Microsoft one: http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery/jquery-1.4.2.min.js I download 30k (and it comes through as Content-Encoding: gzip) I am also experiencing this when using jquery 1.4.2 in regular sites eg jquery.com. Funily enough, stack overflow which references jquery 1.3.2 on the google cdn, is coming through gzipped. Why is this happening? Is it some kind of issue with google or am I missing something? I live in Melbourne, Australia.

The dialog bit is basically adapted from the jQuery example here: http://jqueryui.com/demos/dialog/#modal All of it works fine up until the last line. Firefox throws an error that simply says "$(" for that line. Anyone know what might be causing this?

• Interpreting Accept Headers as intended in IE and Webkit

  I developed a web app that responds with data in the format as specified by the client in the HTTP Accept Headers. Everything worked fine while using Firefox, but when I wanted to check my CSS / HTML on Chrome and IE, both of them wanted to download the index page, as if it's an unknown content type. After some research I found this article, which states that IE sends out a lot of crud in it's HTTP Accept headers, amongst others a list of image/* content types right at the start. This caused my web app to try to send the index page as an image/jpeg. So how do I know when to ignore and when to use the Accept Headers?

• Why jquery.animate on a textarea make the blinking cursor disapears?

  Hello everyone. I have the following code $(document).ready(function() { $("#myTextArea").focus(function() { $("#myTextArea").animate({ "height": "75px"}, "normal"); return false; }); to expand a textbox when it gets focus. The expand occurs, however the blinking cursor disapears, at least in Firefox! Edited: The textarea is still focused, and i can type on it. Why does this happen? Is there a way to show it again? • How do I prevent Window resizing when the Workstation is Locked then Unlocked?

  We have an application that is run in multi-monitor environments. Users normally have the application dialog spread out to span multiple mointors. If the user locks the workstation, and then unlocks it, our application is told to resize. Our users find this behavior frustrating, as they then spend some time restoring the previous layout. We're not yet sure whether it is the graphics driver requesting the resize or Windows. Hopefully through this question, it will become clearer which component is responsible, Popular applications like (File) Explorer and Firefox behave the same way in this setup. To replicate just: open Explorer (Win+E) drag the Explorer window to being horizontally larger than 1 screen lock workstation (Win+L), unlock the application should now resize to being solely on 1 screen How do I prevent Window resizing when the Workstation is Locked then Unlocked? Will we need to code in checks for (un)locking? Is there another mechanism we're not aware of?

• Getting the height of a div after setting it to auto in IE

  Hi, I'm writing some JavaScript that changes the size of some content. To do this I need to know the size of a div within my content. If I have the following html: <div id="wrapper"> ... other stuff ... <div id="inner" style="height:400px">Some text in here</div> ... other stuff ... </div> And the following JavaScript: $('#inner').height('auto'); var height = $("#wrapper").height(); In FireFox and Chrome the height variable increases as the inner div expands to fit all the text. In IE this stays the same. I guess it doesn't redraw the div straight away. Anybody know how to get the new correct height in IE? Cheers

• Track each URL and Parameters sent from Form

  Simple question really for anyone who's been through this: I have a form that I'm placing on a site. This form submits some parameters to a site which then sends some parameters using "GET" to another site, which then opens the third site. Now the first 2 sites pass so quickly that I can not see what parameters were passed using the URL. I can do a manual check using source code but its too long and complex. I just need a simple tool or hint or firefox addon on how to track every single URL (wven if it has a META redirect) so I can read parameters being sent via the form. Thanks

  Hi all, I was using this JQuery in this download link, and included it in the head tag of a HTML web page: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js"></script> In a php web page, I got these few lines of codes: $.ajax({ url: 'http://mywebsite.com/site1/toavail/, type: "post", success: function(data) { // some more code here } }); When I tested the HTML page in IE 6, and 7, I saw the same warning message: "permission denied" When I tested it in Firefox 3, nothing was returned from the server web page. Later, I changed the JQuery source link to be: http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.js I refreshed the web page, and I could saw the returned value then.

• Firebug: how do I see GET parameters?

  I'm using Firebug on Firefox 3.6.3 for Mac. I want to use Firebug to view GET and POST parameters being passed. I have Firebug open at the Net XHR tab. The panel says 'Net panel activated'. Yet if I then go to google.com and do a search, nothing appears in the XHR tab. (All the HTML, CSS etc appears fine in the other tabs.) Where can I see the GET parameters being passed to Google in Firebug?

• Is there a program devleopment environment similar to visual studios?

  I'm getting really tired of working against click-once and I'm wondering if there's a better alternative. I'm looking for a programming environment that preferably does not depend on the .net framework. I'm not sure how much .net does for me exactly (though I have some idea) but I'd like to make my programs as independent of downloading a microsoft or other framework. I often think of professional programs like itunes, gimp or firefox that don't require someone to have a .net framwork. I'd also like to have these programs work on windows mac and linux. Any suggestions?

• SSL Certificated Validity

  Hi, I'm using an SSL certificate from geotrust. I just ordered and installed it this weekend. However when I try to access my website using https, firefox (and the other browsers as well) the browser warns that the certificate expired a few days ago. I guess there could be two reasons: I made a mistake during the installation of the certificate Geotrust did not sign the certificate properly. First I want to rule out the second reason considering my browser tells me the certificate expired a few days ago. This does not make sense at all. Is there a way to extract the expiration date from the certificate? Thanks!

• Internet Explore works very slowly executing JS code

  There is a page that uses PHP to fetch search results from Google Search API and then it puts the results on the page some funny way in a circle. Code and may look crappy but seems that it works more or less fine in Firefox. When you enter a search query and click submit button or Next/Previous links, it fills the wheel with results. The problem is its work in IE. It works there very slowly and then it doesn't clear the wheel before filling in new data, but puts it over that. My friend asked me to help him with this code. Please give me a piece of advice how I can fix it. Thanks so much!

• Detecting support for a given JavaScript event?

  I'm interested in using the JavaScript hashchange event to monitor changes in the URL's fragment identifier. I'm aware of Really Simple History and the jQuery plugins for this. However, I've reached the conclusion that in my particular project it's not really worth the added overhead of another JS file. What I would like to do instead is take the "progressive enhancement" route. That is, I want to test whether the hashchange event is supported by the visitor's browser, and write my code to use it if it's available, as an enhancement rather than a core feature. IE 8, Firefox 3.6, and Chrome 4.1.249 support it, and that accounts for about 20% of my site's traffic. So, uh ... is there some way to test whether a browser supports a particular event? Thanks.
