  • Php algorithm - How to achieve that without eval

    - by Marcelo
    I have a class that keeps data stores/access data by using words.separated.by.dots keys and it behaves like the following: $object = new MyArray() $object->setParam('user.name','marcelo'); $object->setParam('user.email','[email protected]'); $object->getParams(); /* array( 'user' => array( 'name' => 'marcelo', 'email' => '[email protected]' ) ); */ It is working, but the method unsetParam() was horribly implemented. That happened because i didn't know how to achieve that without eval() function. Although it is working, I found that it was a really challenging algorithm and that you might find fun trying to achieve that without eval(). class MyArray { /** * @param string $key * @return Mura_Session_Abstract */ public function unsetParam($key) { $params = $this->getParams(); $tmp = $params; $keys = explode('.', $key); foreach ($keys as $key) { if (!isset($tmp[$key])) { return $this; } $tmp = $tmp[$key]; } // bad code! $eval = "unset(\$params['" . implode("']['", $keys) . "']);"; eval($eval); $this->setParams($params); return $this; } } The test method: public function testCanUnsetNestedParam() { $params = array( '1' => array( '1' => array( '1' => array( '1' => 'one', '2' => 'two', '3' => 'three', ), '2' => array( '1' => 'one', '2' => 'two', '3' => 'three', ), ) ), '2' => 'something' ); $session = $this->newSession(); $session->setParams($params); unset($params['1']['1']['1']); $session->unsetParam('1.1.1'); $this->assertEquals($params, $session->getParams()); $this->assertEquals($params['1']['1']['2'], $session->getParam('1.1.2')); }

  • 8bpp Bitmap format on the Compact Framework

    - by Kieran
    Hi friends. I am messing around with Conway's Game of Life - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conway's_Game_of_Life I started out coding algorithmns for winforms and now want to port my work onto windows mobile 6.1 (compact framework). I came across an article by Jon Skeet where he compared several different algorithmns for calculating next generations in the game. He used an array of bytes to store a cells state (alive or dead) and then he would copy this array to an 8bpp bitmap. For each new generation, he works out the state of each byte, then copies the array to a bitmap, then draws that bitmap to a picturebox. void CreateInitialImage() { bitmap = new Bitmap(Width, Height, PixelFormat.Format8bppIndexed); ColorPalette palette = bitmap.Palette; palette.Entries[0] = Color.Black; palette.Entries[1] = Color.White; bitmap.Palette = palette; } public Image Render() { Rectangle rect = new Rectangle(0, 0, Width, Height); BitmapData bmpData = bitmap.LockBits(rect, ImageLockMode.ReadWrite, bitmap.PixelFormat); Marshal.Copy(Data, 0, bmpData.Scan0, Data.Length); bitmap.UnlockBits(bmpData); return bitmap; } His code above is beautifully simple and very fast to render. Jon is using Windows Forms but now I want to port my own version of this onto Windows Mobile 6.1 (Compact Framework) but . . . .there is no way to format a bitmap to 8bpp in the cf. Can anyone suggest a way of rendering an array of bytes to a drawable image in the CF. This array is created in code on the fly (it is NOT loaded from an image file on disk). I basically need to store an array of cells represented by bytes, they are either alive or dead and I then need to draw that array as an image. The game is particularly slow on the CF so I need to implement clever optimised algoritmns but also need to render as fast as possible and the above solution would be pretty dam perfect if only it was available on the compact framework. Many thanks for any help Any suggestions?

  • Trying to integrate CakePHP and jQuery

    - by user198003
    Trying to integrate CakePHP and jQuery, using next example http://bakery.cakephp.org/articles/view/dynamic-select-boxes-with-ajax-jquery What I want is to when user change first option element, to automaticly fill second select option box with proper values. But, nothing happens, if you can help me why. So, there is a Invoice add form (add.ctp), with next code... <?php echo $form->create('Invoice');?> <?php echo $javascript->link('jquery.js'); $category = array('1' => 'First', '4' => 'Fourth', '7' => 'Seventh'); echo $form->input('client_id', array('options' => $category, 'empty' => 'Choose:')); echo $form->select('clientBank_id', array("Choose category first"), null, null, false); ?> <script> $("#InvoiceClientId").change(function () { $.post('/invoices/listTitleByCategory/' + $(this).val(), function(data) { $("#InvoiceClientBankId").empty().append(data); }, 'html'); }) </script> Also, there is controller (invoices_controller.php): <?php var $name = 'Invoices'; var $helpers = array('Html', 'Form', 'Time', 'Number', 'Javascript'); var $paginate = array('order' => array('Invoice.pinned DESC', 'Invoice.invoiceNumber')); var $components = array('RequestHandler'); function beforeRender(){ // prevent useless warnings for Ajax if($this->RequestHandler->isAjax()){ Configure::write('debug', 0); } } // etc... function listTitleByCategory($category = "") { $this->layout = 'ajax'; $this->beforeRender(); $this->autoRender = false; $data = $this->Invoice->Client->find('list'); echo "<option value=0>just for testing...</option>"; foreach($data as $key => $val) { echo "<option value=$key>$val</option>"; } } ?> Please, if you can help me solving this. Thank you in advance!

  • UCA + Natural Sorting

    - by Alix Axel
    I recently learnt that PHP already supports the Unicode Collation Algorithm via the intl extension: $array = array ( 'al', 'be', 'Alpha', 'Beta', 'Álpha', 'Àlpha', 'Älpha', '????', 'img10.png', 'img12.png', 'img1.png', 'img2.png', ); if (extension_loaded('intl') === true) { collator_asort(collator_create('root'), $array); } Array ( [0] => al [2] => Alpha [4] => Álpha [5] => Àlpha [6] => Älpha [1] => be [3] => Beta [11] => img1.png [9] => img10.png [8] => img12.png [10] => img2.png [7] => ???? ) As you can see this seems to work perfectly, even with mixed case strings! The only drawback I've encountered so far is that there is no support for natural sorting and I'm wondering what would be the best way to work around that, so that I can merge the best of the two worlds. I've tried to specify the Collator::SORT_NUMERIC sort flag but the result is way messier: collator_asort(collator_create('root'), $array, Collator::SORT_NUMERIC); Array ( [8] => img12.png [7] => ???? [9] => img10.png [10] => img2.png [11] => img1.png [6] => Älpha [5] => Àlpha [1] => be [2] => Alpha [3] => Beta [4] => Álpha [0] => al ) However, if I run the same test with only the img*.png values I get the ideal output: Array ( [3] => img1.png [2] => img2.png [1] => img10.png [0] => img12.png ) Can anyone think of a way to preserve the Unicode sorting while adding natural sorting capabilities?

  • Output from OouraFFT correct sometimes but completely false other times. Why ?

    - by Yan
    Hi I am using Ooura FFT to compute the FFT of the accelerometer data in windows of 1024 samples. The code works fine, but then for some reason it produces very strange outputs, i.e. continuous spectrum with amplitudes of the order of 10^200. Here is the code: OouraFFT *myFFT=[[OouraFFT alloc] initForSignalsOfLength:1024 NumWindows:10]; // had to allocate it UIAcceleration *tempAccel = nil; double *input=(double *)malloc(1024 * sizeof(double)); double *frequency=(double *)malloc(1024*sizeof(double)); if (input) { //NSLog(@"%d",[array count]); for (int u=0; u<[array count]; u++) { tempAccel = (UIAcceleration *)[array objectAtIndex:u]; input[u]=tempAccel.z; //NSLog(@"%g",input[u]); } } myFFT.inputData=input; // specifies input data to myFFT [myFFT calculateWelchPeriodogramWithNewSignalSegment]; // calculates FFT for (int i=0;i<myFFT.dataLength;i++) // loop to copy output of myFFT, length of spectrumData is half of input data, so copy twice { if (i<myFFT.numFrequencies) { frequency[i]=myFFT.spectrumData[i]; // } else { frequency[i]=myFFT.spectrumData[myFFT.dataLength-i]; // copy twice } } for (int i=0;i<[array count];i++) { TransformedAcceleration *NewAcceleration=[[TransformedAcceleration alloc]init]; tempAccel=(UIAcceleration*)[array objectAtIndex:i]; NewAcceleration.timestamp=tempAccel.timestamp; NewAcceleration.x=tempAccel.x; NewAcceleration.y=tempAccel.z; NewAcceleration.z=frequency[i]; [newcurrentarray addObject:NewAcceleration]; // this does not work //[self replaceAcceleration:NewAcceleration]; //[NewAcceleration release]; [NewAcceleration release]; } TransformedAcceleration *a=nil;//[[TransformedAcceleration alloc]init]; // object containing fft of x,y,z accelerations for(int i=0; i<[newcurrentarray count]; i++) { a=(TransformedAcceleration *)[newcurrentarray objectAtIndex:i]; //NSLog(@"%d,%@",i,[a printAcceleration]); fprintf(fp,[[a printAcceleration] UTF8String]); //this is going wrong somewhow } fclose(fp); [array release]; [myFFT release]; //[array removeAllObjects]; [newcurrentarray release]; free(input); free(frequency);

  • Filter Facebook Stream by Post privacy?

    Hi there, i query some wall data within my facebook tab. I was wondering how to filter the data (query) to show only post which are visible to a certain country. $query = " SELECT post_id, created_time, attachment,action_links, privacy FROM stream WHERE source_id = ".$page_id." • convert portion of code into a function php

    - by user765368
    This is probably very easy to do but for some reason I can't seem to figure this out. Let's say I have code like this: $elements = array('a', 'b', 'c', 'd'); $myValues = array( 'values' => array( 'a' => array( 'xx' => 3, 'yy' => '' ), 'b' => array( 'xx' => '', 'yy' => '' ), 'c' => array( 'xx' => 8.4, 'yy' => '' ), 'd' => array( 'xx' => 18.4, 'yy' => '' ) ) ); foreach($elements as $elem) { if($myValues['values'][$elem]['xx'] != '') { if($myValues['values'][$elem]['xx'] < 6) { $myValues['values'][$elem]['yy'] = 'less than 6'; } elseif($myValues['values'][$elem]['xx'] >= 6 && $myValues['values'][$elem]['xx'] < 15) { $myValues['values'][$elem]['yy'] = 'between 6 and 16'; } else { $myValues['values'][$elem]['yy'] = 'greater than 15'; } testFunc($myValues['values'][$elem]['xx']); // This is how I would call my function once I replace the code above } } As you can see here what I'm trying to do is to change the value of $myValues['values'][$elem]['yy'] based on some conditions. What I want to do is to replace the if elseif else section of codes by a function that performs the same action. I tried something like: function testFunc($xx) { if($xx < 6) { $yy = 'less than 6'; } elseif($xx >= 6 && $xx < 15) { $yy = 'between 6 and 16'; } else { $yy = 'greater than 15'; } return $yy; } But obviously this won't work because I'm not changing the value of $myValues['values'][$elem]['yy'] inside my function. NOTE I really want to pass ONLY the value of $myValues['values'][$elem]['xx'] inside my function and return the changed value of $myValues['values'][$elem]['yy']. Can anybody help me with this? Thanks in advance

  • Drag N Drop utilizing simple cursor

    - by Cameron
    I'm using CommonsGuy's drag n drop example and I am basically trying to integrate it with the Android notepad example. Drag N Drop Out of the 2 different drag n drop examples i've seen they have all used a static string array where as i'm getting a list from a database and using simple cursor adapter. So my question is how to get the results from simple cursor adapter into a string array, but still have it return the row id when the list item is clicked so I can pass it to the new activity that edits the note. Here is my code: Cursor notesCursor = mDbHelper.fetchAllNotes(); startManagingCursor(notesCursor); // Create an array to specify the fields we want to display in the list (only NAME) String[] from = new String[]{WeightsDatabase.KEY_NAME}; // and an array of the fields we want to bind those fields to (in this case just text1) int[] to = new int[]{R.id.weightrows}; // Now create a simple cursor adapter and set it to display SimpleCursorAdapter notes = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.weights_row, notesCursor, from, to); setListAdapter(notes); And here is the code i'm trying to work that into. public class TouchListViewDemo extends ListActivity { private static String[] items={"lorem", "ipsum", "dolor", "sit", "amet", "consectetuer", "adipiscing", "elit", "morbi", "vel", "ligula", "vitae", "arcu", "aliquet", "mollis", "etiam", "vel", "erat", "placerat", "ante", "porttitor", "sodales", "pellentesque", "augue", "purus"}; private IconicAdapter adapter=null; private ArrayList<String> array=new ArrayList<String>(Arrays.asList(items)); @Override public void onCreate(Bundle icicle) { super.onCreate(icicle); setContentView(R.layout.main); adapter=new IconicAdapter(); setListAdapter(adapter); TouchListView tlv=(TouchListView)getListView(); tlv.setDropListener(onDrop); tlv.setRemoveListener(onRemove); } private TouchListView.DropListener onDrop=new TouchListView.DropListener() { @Override public void drop(int from, int to) { String item=adapter.getItem(from); adapter.remove(item); adapter.insert(item, to); } }; private TouchListView.RemoveListener onRemove=new TouchListView.RemoveListener() { @Override public void remove(int which) { adapter.remove(adapter.getItem(which)); } }; class IconicAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<String> { IconicAdapter() { super(TouchListViewDemo.this, R.layout.row2, array); } public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { View row=convertView; if (row==null) { LayoutInflater inflater=getLayoutInflater(); row=inflater.inflate(R.layout.row2, parent, false); } TextView label=(TextView)row.findViewById(R.id.label); label.setText(array.get(position)); return(row); } } } I know i'm asking for a lot, but a point in the right direction would help quite a bit! Thanks

  • OpenGL ES Polygon with Normals rendering (Note the 'ES!')

    - by MarqueIV
    Ok... imagine I have a relatively simple solid that has six distinct normals but actually has close to 48 faces (8 faces per direction) and there are a LOT of shared vertices between faces. What's the most efficient way to render that in OpenGL? I know I can place the vertices in an array, then use an index array to render them, but I have to keep breaking my rendering steps down to change the normals (i.e. set normal 1... render 8 faces... set normal 2... render 8 faces, etc.) Because of that I have to maintain an array of index arrays... one for each normal! Not good! The other way I can do it is to use separate normal and vertex arrays (or even interleave them) but that means I need to have a one-to-one ratio for normals to vertices and that means the normals would be duplicated 8 times more than they need to be! On something with a spherical or even curved surface, every normal most likely is different, but for this, it really seems like a waste of memory. In a perfect world I'd like to have my vertex and normal arrays have different lengths, then when I go to draw my triangles or quads To specify the index to each array for that vertex. Now the OBJ file format lets you specify exactly that... a vertex array and a normal array of different lengths, then when you specify the face you are rendering, you specify a vertex and a normal index (as well as a UV coord if you are using textures too) which seems like the perfect solution! 48 vertices but only 8 normals, then pairs of indexes defining the shapes' faces. But I'm not sure how to render that in OpenGL ES (again, note the 'ES'.) Currently I have to 'denormalize' (sorry for the SQL pun there) the normals back to a 1-to-1 with the vertex array, then render. Just wastes memory to me. Anyone help? I hope I'm missing something very simple here. Mark

  • How to find an specific key/value (property list)

    - by Bob Rivers
    Hi, I'm learning cocoa/objective-c. Right now I'm dealing with key/value coding. After reading Aaron's book and other sources, I thought that I was able to left the simple examples and try a complex one... I'm trying read iTunes property list (iTunes Music Library.xml). I would like to retrieve the tracks held by an specific playlist. Probably everybody knows it, but bellow I put a piece of the xml: <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Major Version</key><integer>1</integer> ... <key>Playlists</key> <array> <dict> <key>Name</key><string>Library</string> ... <key>Playlist Items</key> <array> <dict> <key>Track ID</key><integer>10281</integer> </dict> ... </array> </dict> <dict> ... </dict> </array> </dict> </plist> As you can see, the playlists are stored as dictionaries inside an array, and the key that identifies it is inside it, not as a <key> preceding it. The problem is that I'm not able to figure out how to search for a key that is inside another one. With the following code I can find the the array in which the playlists are stored, but how to find an specific <dict>? NSDictionary *rootDict = [[NSDictionary alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:file]; NSArray *playlists = [rootDict objectForKey:@"Playlists"]; Here at Stackoverflow I found this post, but I'm not sure if iterate over the array and test it is a good idea. I'm quite sure that I could use valueForKeyPath, but I'm unable to figure out how to do it. Any help is welcome. TIA, Bob

  • Getting specific data from database

    - by ifsession
    I have a table called Categorie with a few columns and I'm trying to get only a few out of my database. So I've tried this: $sql = 'SELECT uppercat AS id, COUNT(uppercat) AS uppercat FROM categorie GROUP BY uppercat;'; $d = Yii::app()->db->createCommand($sql)->query(); But I find the output strange. I was trying to do an array_shift but I get an error that this isn't an array. When I do a var_dump on $d: object(CDbDataReader)[38] private '_statement' => object(PDOStatement)[37] public 'queryString' => string 'SELECT uppercat AS id, COUNT(uppercat) AS uppercat FROM categorie GROUP BY uppercat;' (length=100) private '_closed' => boolean false private '_row' => null private '_index' => int -1 private '_e' (CComponent) => null private '_m' (CComponent) => null Ok.. then I did a foreach on $d: array 'id' => string '0' (length=1) 'uppercat' => string '6' (length=1) array 'id' => string '3' (length=1) 'uppercat' => string '2' (length=1) array 'id' => string '6' (length=1) 'uppercat' => string '1' (length=1) array 'id' => string '7' (length=1) 'uppercat' => string '2' (length=1) array 'id' => string '9' (length=1) 'uppercat' => string '2' (length=1) Then why do I get the message that $d isn't an array while it contains arrays? Is there any other way on how to get some specific data out of my database and that I can then do an array_shift on them? I've also tried doing this with findAllBySql but then I can't reach my attribute for COUNT(uppercat) which is not in my model. I guess I'd have to add it to my model but I wouldn't like that because I need it just once.

  • SSIS - Access Denied with UNC paths - The file name is a device or contains invalid characters

    - by simonsabin
    I spent another day tearing my hair out yesterday trying to resolve an issue with SSIS packages runnning in SQLAgent (not got much left at the moment, maybe I should contact the SSIS team for a wig). My situation was that I am deploying packages to a development server, and to provide isolation I was running jobs with a proxy account that only had access to the development servers. Proxies are an awesome feature and mean that you should never have to "just run the job as sysadmin". The issue I was facing was that the job step was failing. The job step was a simple execution of the package.The following errors appeared in my log file. I always check the "Log step output in history" for a job step, this ensures you get all the output from the command that you run. I'll blog about this later. If looking at the output in sysdtslog90 then you will have an entry with datacode -1073573533 and error message File or directory "<filename>" represented by connection "<connection>" does not exist.  Not exactly helpful. If you get the output from the console then you will also get these errors. 0xC0202070 "The file name property is not valid. The file name is a device or contains invalid characters." 0xC001401E "specified in the connection was not valid." It appears this error is due to the use of a UNC path and the account runnnig the package not having access to all the folders in the path. Solution To solve this you need to ensure that the proxy account has access to ALL folders in the path you are accessing. To check this works, logon as the relevant proxy user, or run a command window as the specified user. Then try and do net use \\server\share and then do a dir for each folder in the path and check you have access. If these work and you still have the problem then you have some other problem, sorry. The following are posts on experts exchange that also discuss this,http://www.experts-exchange.com/Microsoft/Development/MS-SQL-Server/SSIS/Q_24056047.htmlhttp://www.experts-exchange.com/Microsoft/Development/MS-SQL-Server/SSIS/Q_23968903.html This blog had a post about it being a 64 bit issue. That definitely wasn't the issue for me as I was on a 32 bit server http://blogs.perkinsconsulting.com/post/64-bit-SQL-Server-2005-SSIS-and-UNC-paths-Part-2.aspx

  • Sublinear Extra Space MergeSort

    - by hulkmeister
    I am reviewing basic algorithms from a book called Algorithms by Robert Sedgewick, and I came across a problem in MergeSort that I am, sad to say, having difficulty solving. The problem is below: Sublinear Extra Space. Develop a merge implementation that reduces that extra space requirement to max(M, N/M), based on the following idea: Divide the array into N/M blocks of size M (for simplicity in this description, assume that N is a multiple of M). Then, (i) considering the blocks as items with their first key as the sort key, sort them using selection sort; and (ii) run through the array merging the first block with the second, then the second block with the third, and so forth. The problem I have with the problem is that based on the idea Sedgewick recommends, the following set of arrays will not be sorted: {0, 10, 12}, {3, 9, 11}, {5, 8, 13}. The algorithm I use is the following: Divide the full array into subarrays of size M. Run Selection Sort on each of the subarrays. Merge each of the subarrays using the method Sedgwick recommends in (ii). (This is where I encounter the problem of where to store the results after the merge.) This leads to wanting to increase the size of the auxiliary space needed to handle at least two subarrays at a time (for merging), but based on the specifications of the problem, that is not allowed. I have also considered using the original array as space for one subarray and using the auxiliary space for the second subarray. However, I can't envision a solution that does not end up overwriting the entries of the first subarray. Any ideas on other ways this can be done? NOTE: If this is suppose to be on StackOverflow.com, please let me know how I can move it. I posted here because the question was academic.

  • Some thoughts on interviewing….

    At the beginning of the year I changed jobs, leaving a very stable position where I had the opportunity to learn under an amazing mentor (who happened to be a Oracle DBA and not a SQL DBA), to take on a job that I felt was much more challenging and had better potential for personal as well as professional growth.  I wasn’t necessarily looking for another job at the time, but one that interested me was mentioned at our local user group meeting and I decided to check it out and see if it was something...(read more)

  • Ops Center Solaris 11 IPS Repository Management: Using ISO Images

    - by S Stelting
    Please join us for a live WebEx presentation of this topic on Tuesday, November 20th at 9am MDT. Details for the call are provided below: https://oracleconferencing.webex.com/oracleconferencing/j.php?ED=209834017&UID=1512096072&PW=NYTVlZTYxMzdm&RT=MiMxMQ%3D%3D Meeting password: oracle123 Call-in toll-free number: 1-866-682-4770 International numbers: http://www.intercall.com/oracle/access_numbers.htm Conference Code: 762 9343 # Security Code: 7777 # With Enterprise Manager Ops Center 12c, you can provision, patch, monitor and manage Oracle Solaris 11 instances. To do this, Ops Center creates and maintains a Solaris 11 Image Packaging System (IPS) repository on the Enterprise Controller. During the Enterprise Controller configuration, you can load repository content directly from Oracle's Support Web site and subsequently synchronize the repository as new content becomes available. Of course, you can also use Solaris 11 ISO images to create and update your Ops Center repository. There are a few excellent reasons for doing this: You're running Ops Center in disconnected mode, and don't have Internet access on your Enterprise Controller You'd rather avoid the bandwidth associated with live synchronization of a Solaris 11 package repository This demo will show you how to use Solaris 11 ISO images to set up and update your Ops Center repository. Prerequisites This tip assumes that you've already installed the Enterprise Controller on a Solaris 11 OS instance and that you're ready for post-install configuration. In addition, there are specific Ops Center and OS version requirements depending on which version of Solaris 11 you plan to install.You can get full details about the requirements in the Release Notes for Ops Center 12c update 2. Additional information is available in the Ops Center update 2 Readme document. Part 1: Using a Solaris 11 ISO Image to Create an Ops Center Repository Step 1 – Download the Solaris 11 Repository Image The Oracle Web site provides a number of download links for official Solaris 11 images. Among those links is a two-part downloadable repository image, which provides repository content for Solaris 11 SPARC and X86 architectures. In this case, I used the Solaris 11 11/11 image. First, navigate to the Oracle Web site and accept the OTN License agreement: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris11/downloads/index.html Next, download both parts of the Solaris 11 repository image. I recommend using the Solaris 11 11/11 image, and have provided the URLs here: http://download.oracle.com/otn/solaris/11/sol-11-1111-repo-full.iso-ahttp://download.oracle.com/otn/solaris/11/sol-11-1111-repo-full.iso-b Finally, use the cat command to generate an ISO image you can use to create your repository: # cat sol-11-1111-repo-full.iso-a sol-11-1111-repo-full.iso-b > sol-11-1111-repo-full.iso The process is very similar if you plan to set up a Solaris 11.1 release in Ops Center. In that case, navigate to the Solaris 11 download page, accept the license agreement and download both parts of the Solaris 11.1 repository image. Use the cat command to create a single ISO image for Solaris 11.1 Step 2 – Mount the Solaris 11 ISO Image in your Local Filesystem Once you have created the Solaris 11 ISO file, use the mount command to attach it to your local filesystem. After the image has been mounted, you can browse the repository from the ./repo subdirectory, and use the pkgrepo command to verify that Solaris 11 recognizes the content: Step 3 – Use the Image to Create your Ops Center Repository When you have confirmed the repository is available, you can use the image to create the Enterprise Controller repository. The operation will be slightly different depending on whether you configure Ops Center for Connected or Disconnected Mode operation.For connected mode operation, specify the mounted ./repo directory in step 4.1 of the configuration wizard, replacing the default Web-based URL. Since you're synchronizing from an OS repository image, you don't need to specify a key or certificate for the operation. For disconnected mode configuration, specify the Solaris 11 directory along with the path to the disconnected mode bundle downloaded by running the Ops Center harvester script: Ops Center will run a job to import package content from the mounted ISO image. A synchronization job can take several hours to run – in my case, the job ran for 3 hours, 22 minutes on a SunFire X4200 M2 server. During the job, Ops Center performs three important tasks: Synchronizes all content from the image and refreshes the repository Updates the IPS publisher information Creates OS Provisioning profiles and policies based on the content When the job is complete, you can unmount the ISO image from your Enterprise Controller. At that time, you can view the repository contents in your Ops Center Solaris 11 library. For the Solaris 11 11/11 release, you should see 8,668 packages and patches in the contents. You should also see default deployment plans for Solaris 11 provisioning. As part of the repository import, Ops Center generates plans and profiles for desktop, small and large servers for the SPARC and X86 architecture. Part 2: Using a Solaris 11 SRU to update an Ops Center Repository It's possible to use the same approach to upgrade your Ops Center repository to a Solaris 11 Support Repository Update, or SRU. Each SRU provides packages and updates to Solaris 11 - for example, SRU 8.5 provided the packaged for Oracle VM Server for SPARC 2.2 SRUs are available for download as ISO images from My Oracle Support, under document ID 1372094.1. The document provides download links for all SRUs which have been released by Oracle for Solaris 11. SRUs are cumulative, so later versions include the packages from earlier SRUs. After downloading an ISO image for an SRU, you can mount it to your local filesystem using a mount command similar to the one shown for Solaris 11 11/11. When the ISO image is mounted to the file system, you can perform the Add Content action from the Solaris 11 Library to synchronize packages and patches from the mounted image. I used the same mount point, so the repository URL was file://mnt/repo once again: After the synchronization of an SRU is complete, you can verify its content in the Solaris 11 library using the search function. The version pattern is 0.175.0.#, where the # is the same value as the SRU. In this example, I upgraded to SRU 1. The update job ran in just under 8 minutes, and a quick search shows that 22 software components were added to the repository: It's also possible to search for "Support Repository Update" to confirm the SRU was successfully added to the repository. Details on any of the update content are available by clicking the "View Details" button under the Packages/Patches entry.

  • JBOD with PERC H810

    - by primero
    I'm wondering if anybody has ever used Dell storage products like the MD3220 array in a JBOD configuration. From what I can tell only perc h810 will work for external JBOD but that is not terribly specific, and for some reason I couldn't find many examples on the web of people configuring dell storage products as JBOD. My question is: Is it possible to connect to am MD3220 array, or other Dell arrays using a PERC h810 controller and use it as JBOD, and if so do I have to configure every disk in the array as a RAID 0 volume?

  • How to deal with a poor team leader and a tester manager from hell? [closed]

    - by Google
    Let me begin by explaining my situation and give a little context to the situation. My company has around 15 developers but we're split up on two different areas. We have a fresh product team and the old product team. The old product team does mostly bug fixes/maintenance and a feature here and there. The fresh product had never been released and was new from the ground up. I am on the fresh product team. The team consists of three developers (myself, another developer and a senior developer). The senior is also our team leader. Our roles are as follows: Myself: building the administration client as well as build/release stuff Other dev: building the primary client Team lead: building the server In addition to the dev team, we interact with the test manager often. By "we" I mean me since I do the build stuff and give him the builds to test. Trial 1: The other developer on my team and I have both tried to talk to our manager about our team leader. About two weeks before release we went in his office and had a closed door meeting before our team lead got to work. We expressed our concerns about the product, its release date and our team leader. We expressed our team leader had a "rosey" image of the product's state. Our manager seemed to listen to what we said and thanked us for taking the initiative to speak with him about it. He got us an extra two weeks before release. The situation with the leader didn't change. In fact, it got a little worse. While we were using the two weeks to fix issues he was slacking off quite a bit. Just to name a few things, he installed Windows 8 on his dev machine during this time (claimed him machine was broke), he wrote a plugin for our office messenger that turned turned messages into speech, and one time when I went in his office he was making a 3D model in Blender (for "fun"). He felt the product was "pretty good" and ready for release. During this time I dealt with the test manager on a daily basis. Every bug or issue that popped up he would pretty much attack me personally (regardless of which component the bug was in). The test manager would often push his "views" of what needed to be done with the product. He virtually ordered me to change text on our installer and to add features to the installer and administration client. I tried to express how his suggestions were "valid ideas" but it was too close to release to do those kinds of things and to make matters worse, our technical writer had already finished documentation and such a change would not only affect the dev team but would affect the technical writer and marketing as well. I expressed I wasn't going to make those changes without marketing's consent as well as the technical writer and my manager's. He pretty much said I don't care about the product and said I don't do my job. I would like to take a moment to say I take my job seriously and I do my best. I am the kind of person that goes to work 30-40 mins early and usually leaves 30 minutes later than everyone else. Saying I don't care or do my job is just insulting. His "attacks" on me grew from day to day. Every bug that popped up he would usually comment on in some manner that jabbed me and the other developer. "Oh that bug! Yeah that should have been fixed by now, figures! If someone would do their job!" and other similar kinds of comments. Keep in mind 8 out of 10 bugs were in the server and had nothing to do with me and the other developer. That didn't seem to matter.. On one occasion they got pretty bad and we almost got into a yelling match so I decided to stop talking to him all together. I carried all communication through office email (with my manager cc'd). He never attacked me via email. He still attempted to get aggressive with me in person but I completely ignore him and my only response to any question is, "Ask my team leader." or "Ask a product manager." The product launched after our two week extension. Trial 2: The day after the product launch our team leader went on vacation (thanks....). At this time we got a lot of questions from the tech support... major issues with the product. All of these issues were bugs marked "resolved" by our lovely team leader (a typical situation that often popped up). This is where we currently are. The other developer has been with the company for about three years (I've been there only five months) and told me he was going to speak with our manager alone and hoped it would help get our concerns across a little better in a one-on-one. He spoke with the manager and directly addressed all of our concerns regarding our team leader and the test manager giving us (mostly me) hell. Our manager basically said he understood how hard we work and said he noticed it and there's no doubt about it. He said he spoke with the test manager about his temper. Regarding the team leader, he didn't say a whole lot. He suggested we sit down with the team leader and address our concerns (isn't that the manager's job?). We're still waiting to see if anything has changed but we doubt it. What can we do next? 1) Talk to the team leader (may stress relationship and make work awkward) I admit the team leader is generally a nice guy. He is just a horrible leader and working closely with him is painful. I still don't believe bringing this directly to the team leader would help at all and may negatively impact the situation. 2) I could quit. Other than this situation the job is pretty fantastic. I really like my other coworkers and we have quite a bit of freedom. 3) I could take the situation with the team leader to one of the owners. I would then be throwing my manager under the bus. 4) I could take the situation with the test manager to HR. Any suggestions? Comments?

  • mdadm superblock hiding/shadowing partition

    - by Kjell Andreassen
    Short version: Is it safe to do mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sdd on a disk with a partition (dev/sdd1), filesystem and data? Will the partition be mountable and the data still there? Longer version: I used to have a raid6 array but decided to dismantle it. The disks from the array are now used as non-raid disks. The superblocks were cleared: sudo mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sdd The disks were repartitioned with fdisk and filesystems created with mfks.ext4. All disks where mounted and everything worked fine. Today, a couple of weeks later, one of the disks is failing to be recognized when trying to mount it, or rather the single partition on it. sudo mount /dev/sdd1 /mnt/tmp mount: special device /dev/sdd1 does not exist fdisk claims there to be a partition on it: sudo fdisk -l /dev/sdd Disk /dev/sdd: 2000.4 GB, 2000398934016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 243201 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0xb06f6341 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdd1 1 243201 1953512001 83 Linux Of course mount is right, the device /dev/sdd1 is not there, I'm guessing udev did not create it because of the mdadm data still on it: sudo mdadm --examine /dev/sdd /dev/sdd: Magic : a92b4efc Version : 1.2 Feature Map : 0x0 Array UUID : b164e513:c0584be1:3cc53326:48691084 Name : pringle:0 (local to host pringle) Creation Time : Sat Jun 16 21:37:14 2012 Raid Level : raid6 Raid Devices : 6 Avail Dev Size : 3907027120 (1863.02 GiB 2000.40 GB) Array Size : 15628107776 (7452.06 GiB 8001.59 GB) Used Dev Size : 3907026944 (1863.02 GiB 2000.40 GB) Data Offset : 2048 sectors Super Offset : 8 sectors State : clean Device UUID : 3ccaeb5b:843531e4:87bf1224:382c16e2 Update Time : Sun Aug 12 22:20:39 2012 Checksum : 4c329db0 - correct Events : 1238535 Layout : left-symmetric Chunk Size : 512K Device Role : Active device 3 Array State : AA.AAA ('A' == active, '.' == missing) My mdadm --zero-superblock apparently didn't work. Can I safely try it again without losing data? If not, are there any suggestion on what do to? Not starting mdadm at all on boot might be a (somewhat unsatisfactory) solution.

  • Getting Query Parameters in Javascript

    - by PhubarBaz
    I find myself needing to get query parameters that are passed into a web app on the URL quite often. At first I wrote a function that creates an associative array (aka object) with all of the parameters as keys and returns it. But then I was looking at the revealing module pattern, a nice javascript design pattern designed to hide private functions, and came up with a way to do this without even calling a function. What I came up with was this nice little object that automatically initializes itself into the same associative array that the function call did previously. // Creates associative array (object) of query params var QueryParameters = (function() {     var result = {};     if (window.location.search)     {         // split up the query string and store in an associative array         var params = window.location.search.slice(1).split("&");         for (var i = 0; i < params.length; i++)         {             var tmp = params[i].split("=");             result[tmp[0]] = unescape(tmp[1]);         }     }     return result; }()); Now all you have to do to get the query parameters is just reference them from the QueryParameters object. There is no need to create a new object or call any function to initialize it. var debug = (QueryParameters.debug === "true"); or if (QueryParameters["debug"]) doSomeDebugging(); or loop through all of the parameters. for (var param in QueryParameters) var value = QueryParameters[param]; Hope you find this object useful.

  • Can someone explain RAID-0 in plain English?

    - by Edward Tanguay
    I've heard about and read about RAID throughout the years and understand it theoretically as a way to help e.g. server PCs reduce the chance of data loss, but now I am buying a new PC which I want to be as fast as possible and have learned that having two drives can considerably increase the perceived performance of your machine. In the question Recommendations for hard drive performance boost, the author says he is going to RAID-0 two 7200 RPM drives together. What does this mean in practical terms for me with Windows 7 installed, e.g. can I buy two drives, go into the device manager and "raid-0 them together"? I am not a network administrator or a hardware guy, I'm just a developer who is going to have a computer store build me a super fast machine next week. I can read the wikipedia page on RAID but it is just way too many trees and not enough forest to help me build a faster PC: RAID-0: "Striped set without parity" or "Striping". Provides improved performance and additional storage but no redundancy or fault tolerance. Because there is no redundancy, this level is not actually a Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks, i.e. not true RAID. However, because of the similarities to RAID (especially the need for a controller to distribute data across multiple disks), simple strip sets are normally referred to as RAID 0. Any disk failure destroys the array, which has greater consequences with more disks in the array (at a minimum, catastrophic data loss is twice as severe compared to single drives without RAID). A single disk failure destroys the entire array because when data is written to a RAID 0 drive, the data is broken into fragments. The number of fragments is dictated by the number of disks in the array. The fragments are written to their respective disks simultaneously on the same sector. This allows smaller sections of the entire chunk of data to be read off the drive in parallel, increasing bandwidth. RAID 0 does not implement error checking so any error is unrecoverable. More disks in the array means higher bandwidth, but greater risk of data loss. So in plain English, how can "RAID-0" help me build a faster Windows-7 PC that I am going to order next week?
