  • C++ String manipulation isn't making sense to me...

    - by Andrew Bolster
    I am trying some of the Stanford SEE courses online to learn some new languages; this particular assignment has to do with removing substrings from strings. What I've got so far is below, but if text = "hello hello" and remove ="el", it gets stuck in a loop, but if i change text to text = "hello hllo", it works, making me think I'm doing something obviously stupid. There is a stipulation in the assignment not to modify the incoming strings, and instead to return a new string. string CensorString1(string text, string remove){ string returned; size_t found=0, lastfound=0; found = (text.substr(lastfound,text.size())).find(remove); while (string::npos != found ){ returned += text.substr(lastfound,found); lastfound = found + remove.size(); found = (text.substr(lastfound,text.size())).find(remove); } returned += text.substr(lastfound,found); return returned; } Guidance would be appreciated :-) Thanks

  • scheme2lisp::define function and pass it as parameter

    - by Stas
    Hi! Im need translate some code from scheme to common lisp. Now I have something like this (defun sum (term a next b) (if (> a b) 0 (+ (term a) (sum term (next a) b)))) (defun sum-int (a b) (defun (ident x) x ) (sum ident a 1+ b)) But it doesn't interprete with out errors. * - DEFUN: the name of a function must be a symbol, not (IDENT X) Help me plese. Thanks

  • Why doesn't infinite recursion hit a stack overflow exception in F#?

    - by Amazingant
    I know this is somewhat the reverse of the issue people are having when they ask about a stack overflow issue, but if I create a function and call it as follows, I never receive any errors, and the application simply grinds up a core of my CPU until I force-quit it: let rec recursionTest x = recursionTest x recursionTest 1 Of course I can change this out so it actually does something like this: let rec recursionTest (x: uint64) = recursionTest (x + 1UL) recursionTest 0UL This way I can occasionally put a breakpoint in my code and see the value of x is going up rather quickly, but it still doesn't complain. Does F# not mind infinite recursion?

  • Generate combinations by order and fixed length.

    - by roconmachine
    Suppose there is array main[] = [a,b,c,....z]; a[] = [a1,a2,a3,....] , b[] = [b1,b2,b3,....] and so on. So if we generate combination in main.length of ordered then it looks like ..... a1 b1 c1, a1 b1 c2, a1 b1 c3 ...... a1 b2 c1, a1 b3 c1, ..... a2 b1 c1, a3 b1 c1, ..... and total count will be a.length * b.length * c.length ........ = ? So write a code in any language to generate those combination. all the best. alex

  • Is it possible to have more than P2P on iPhone with Bluetooth

    - by Ricardo Ferreira
    Hi all, This seems like a straightforward google search answer, but after a while, I still can't be 100% sure of this. I've found Z2Live (http://www.z2live.com/), which is basically a layer above GameKit and they too use only P2P with Bluetooth. So I just want to be sure if I can only have P2P with Bluetooth or if I can have like 4 iPhones all connected to a server (who will also be a client) using Bluetooth. Thanks in advance.

  • Is there server-side code which is not cross browser compatible?

    - by Ygam
    Was there a case in any server-side language where a code did not work in a browser while it did work in the rest? I am asking this because I can't imagine such a scenario because server-side code runs in the server, not in the browser but I have seen discussions where, as said, there were "server-side browser compatibility issues". I can't seem to recall where I have read it. Thanks in advance :)

  • read angles in radian and convert them in degrees/minutes/seconds

    - by Amadou
    n=0; disp('This program performs an angle conversion'); disp('input data set to a straight line. Enter the name'); disp('of the file containing the input Lambda in radian: '); filename = input(' ','s'); [fid,msg] = fopen(filename,'rt'); if fid < 0 disp(msg); else A=textscan(fid, '%g',1); while ~feof(fid) Lambda = A(1); n = n + 1; A = textscan(fid, '%f',1); end fclose(fid); end Alpha=Lambda*180/pi; fprintf('Angle converted from radian to degree/minutes/seconds:\n'); fprintf('Alpha =%12d\n',Alpha); fprintf('No of angles =%12d\n',n);

  • Why isn't LISP more widely used?

    - by Chris
    I've heard a lot of people espouse the capabilities of LISP and its omnipotent macros. If LISP is such a great language, why isn't it being adopted more? What problems is LISP facing that is holding it back from (re)emerging as popular language? Is it something about LISP itself ("those brackets!" isn't the answer, is it?!), or its competitors (e.g. the dominance of Java, .NET)?

  • How do you encrypt data between client and server running in Flash and Java?

    - by ArmlessJohn
    We have a multiclient system where the client is written in Flash and the server is written in Java. Currently, communication is done in Flash by usage of flash.net.Socket and the protocol is written in JSON. The server uses a custom port to receive connections and then proceed to talk with each client. As expected, data is sent and received on both fronts as raw bytes, which are then decoded as needed. We would like to encrypt the communication between clients and server. I have some basic understanding about public/private key encryption, but I do not know what is the best way to exchange keys or what libraries are available (on both languages) to do this. What would be the best strategy to attack this problem and where should I start looking for libraries/methods to implement this encryption?

  • design pattern tools to use?

    - by ajsie
    i have noticed that every area has some tools you can use to make things easier. eg. css = dreamweaver doctrine/propel = orm designer // you dont have to hardcore code schemas manually and remembering all the syntax/variables mysql = mysql workbench // the same etc. in this way you get aided and dont have to type things the hard way, and can learn the structure, but then use GUI tools to help you develop faster. now i'm learning design patterns (singleton, factory, command, memento etc) and im wondering if there are some kind of tools you can use that will help you develop faster. i dont know exactly what tools i'm trying to find, just helping me when coding with design patterns (schema drawings? references?) are there any?

  • Function Composition in C++

    - by Channel72
    There are a lot of impressive Boost libraries such as Boost.Lambda or Boost.Phoenix which go a long way towards making C++ into a truly functional language. But is there a straightforward way to create a composite function from any 2 or more arbitrary functions or functors? If I have: int f(int x) and int g(int x), I want to do something like f . g which would statically generate a new function object equivalent to f(g(x)). This seems to be possible through various techniques, such as those discussed here. Certainly, you can chain calls to boost::lambda::bind to create a composite functor. But is there anything in Boost which easily allows you to take any 2 or more functions or function objects and combine them to create a single composite functor, similar to how you would do it in a language like Haskell?

  • Where is the money?

    - by Someone
    Big companies can afford higher salaries but it is harder to get noticed. Do you think that a talented programmer or somebody who is training himself to be really good could make more money in smaller companies? I think smaller companies have a lower average, but maybe great programmers can get much more. What do you think?

  • How do I create Ntlm Type 1 and Type 3 messages in .Net

    - by brj011
    I need to create Type 1 message and Type 3 message for NTLM handshaking. Is there any .Net API for this? Essentially, the application is WPF based, but Socket is used in order to stream data from the server. Use of socket is a technical requirement, but the problem is when user needs to connect to the server using a proxy server. Further, if the proxy authorization is based on Ntlm, the client application needs to create Type 1 and Type 3 messages in order to handshake with the proxy server. My question is: Is there any API already available in .NET libraries that can be consumed in order to create these different types of NTLM messages? Any help or alternatives will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • How to receive packets on the MCU's serial port?

    - by itisravi
    Hello, Consider this code running on my microcontroller unit(MCU): while(1){ do_stuff; if(packet_from_PC) send_data_via_gpio(new_packet); //send via general purpose i/o pins else send_data_via_gpio(default_packet); do_other_stuff; } The MCU is also interfaced to a PC via a UART.Whenever the PC sends data to the MCU, the *new_packet* is sent, otherwise the *default_packet* is sent.Each packet can be 5 or more bytes with a pre defined packet structure. My question is: 1.Should i receive the entire packet from PC using inside the UART interrut service routine (ISR)? In this case, i have to implement a state machine inside the ISR to assemble the packet (which can be lengthy with if-else or switch-case blocks). 2.Detect a REQUEST command (one byte)from the PC in my ISR set a flag, diable UART interrupt alone and form the packet in my while(1) loop by polling the UART?

  • Static and Dynamic Scooping Problem

    - by Devyn
    Hi, I'm solving following code in Static and Dynamic Scooping. I got following answer but I need someone to confirm if I'm correct or not since I'm a bit confusing. I really appreciate if anyone can explain in simple way! Static => (1)8 (2)27 Dynamic => (1)10 (2)27 proc main var x,y,z; proc sub1 var x,z x := 6; z := 7; sub2; x := y*z + x; print(x); ---- (2) end; proc sub2 var x,y x := 1; y := x+z+2; print(y); ---- (1) end; begin x := 1; y:=3; z:=5; sub1; end

  • checking whether 4 points in a plane define a square ??

    - by osabri
    how to check whether 4 points in the plane define a square? what's the function which given a point and a value of the area of a square as input parameters returns four squares(define a corresponding type) with sides parallel to the x axis and y axis this how i start: #include <stdio.h> #include<math.h> struct point{ float x; float y; } typedef struct point POINT; struct square{ struct point p1; struct point p2; struct point p3; struct point p4; } typedef struct square SQUARE; int main() { int point; printf("point coordinate"); printf("\n\n"); printf("enter data\n");
