  • PHP: Coding long-running scripts when servers impose an execution time limit

    FastCGI servers, for example, impose an execution time limit on PHP scripts which cannot be altered using set_time_limit() in PHP. IIS does this too I believe. I wrote an import script for a PHP application that works well under mod_php but fails under FastCGI (mod_fcgid) because the script is killed after a certain number of seconds. I don't yet know of a way of detecting what your time limit is in this case, and haven't decided how I'm going to get around it. Doing it in small chunks with redirects seems like one kludge, but how? What techniques would you use when coding a long-running task such as an import or export task, where an individual PHP script may be terminated by the server after a certain number of seconds? Please assume you're creating a portable script, so you don't necessarily know whether PHP will eventually be run under mod_php, FastCGI or IIS or whether a maximum execution time is enforced at the server level.

  • Mixed alignment with Java Swing's GroupLayout

    I'm trying to build a GUI window in my application. What I'm trying to do is have a window, with a few buttons at the top, and a large text area. Something like this: +--------------------------------------------------+ | [button1] [button2] [button3] | | +----------------------------------------------+ | | | text area | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +----------------------------------------------+ | +--------------------------------------------------+ I'm almost there, using GroupLayout: layout.setHorizontalGroup( layout.createParallelGroup() .addGroup(layout.createSequentialGroup() .addComponent(button1) .addComponent(button2)) .addComponent(closeWindow)) .addComponent(textarea1) ); layout.setVerticalGroup( layout.createSequentialGroup() .addGroup(layout.createParallelGroup() .addComponent(button1) .addComponent(button2) .addComponent(button3)) .addComponent(textarea) ); The problem is that this ends up with button3 aligned to the left, with the other two. I can't seem to figure out how I can specify the alignment on just that one button. I can do GroupLayout.Alignment.TRAILING on the entire button bar, but that hits all 3 buttons, which is also not quite right. So what's the correct approach? Since the alignment only applies for Parallel Groups, I don't think having a HorizontalGroup with two Sequential Groups in it will help? What am I missing?

  • Unable to run OpenMPI across more than two machines

    When attempting to run the first example in the boost::mpi tutorial, I was unable to run across more than two machines. Specifically, this seemed to run fine: mpirun -hostfile hostnames -np 4 boost1 with each hostname in hostnames as <node_name> slots=2 max_slots=2. But, when I increase the number of processes to 5, it just hangs. I have decreased the number of slots/max_slots to 1 with the same result when I exceed 2 machines. On the nodes, this shows up in the job list: <user> Ss orted --daemonize -mca ess env -mca orte_ess_jobid 388497408 \ -mca orte_ess_vpid 2 -mca orte_ess_num_procs 3 -hnp-uri \ 388497408.0;tcp://<node_ip>:48823 Additionally, when I kill it, I get this message: node2- daemon did not report back when launched node3- daemon did not report back when launched The cluster is set up with the mpi and boost libs accessible on an NFS mounted drive. Am I running into a deadlock with NFS? Or, is something else going on?

    I'm not 100% on how to do this so i'm asking... May seem stupid but... How do I convert a string into an integer? Background info: I have a textbox I have the user enter a number into... it then: EditText et = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.entry1); String hello = et.getText().toString(); gets the string 'hello' Now I want to convert it to a integer so I can get the number they typed in -will be used later on in code... Is there a way to get the edittext to a integer? -That would skip the middle man... If not, string to integer will be just fine... Thanks alot, James

    I have a joomla application working on Apache.To improve site performace we have written a .htaccess file to root of the application with setting a far future expires header to all the static content. As desired first time the files load in fresh with 200 status code. when again click on the same link many of the files are served directly from cache. I need explanation for two things When i press f5 then a number of files load with 304 status code however i expected them to be coming directly from cache without hitting the server for a status header? When i close the browser and come back to the same page again i see the same thing happening a number of files load with 304 status code although i thought they will load directly from the browser cache? I understand that 304 also servs file from browser cache but i want to avoid the header communication between servers as my static files wont ever change. Also i want to add that my requests are over a https connection does that create any issue.

  • Data tweaking code runs fine when executed directly - but never stops when used in trigger

    I have written some code to ensure that items on an order are all numbered (the "position number" or "item number" has been introduced only recently and we did not want to go and change all related code - as it is "asthetics only" and has no functional impact.) So, the idea is to go and check for an records that jave an itemno of NULL or 0 - and then compute one and assign it. When executing this code in a query window, it works fine. When putting it into an AFTER INSERT-trigger, it loops forever.     Hi, I have the following function that takes a number like 5 and creates a list of all the numbers from 1 to that number so create(5). returns [1,2,3,4,5]. I have over used guards I think and was wondering if there is a better way to write the following: create(N) -> create(1, N). create(N,M) when N =:= M -> [N]; create(N,M) when N < M -> [N] ++ create(N + 1, M).     I need to do a preorder traversal of a Btree, and among other things, print the following information for each page (which is the same thing as a node): The B-Tree page number The value of each B-Tree page pointer (e.g., address, byte offset, RRN). My questions are: 1. How do you figure out the byte offset? What is it offset from? 2. Isn't the RRN the same as the page number? Note: A Btree is NOT A BINARY TREE. Btrees can have multiple keys in each node, and a node with n keys has n+1 child pointers.

  • Image processing in a multhithreaded mode using Java

    Hi Folks, I am supposed to process images in a multithreaded mode using Java. I may having varying number of images where as my number of threads are fixed. I have to process all the images using the fixed set of threads. I am just stuck up on how to do it, I had a look ThreadExecutor and BlockingQueues etc...I am still not clear. What I am doing is, - Get the images and add them in a LinkedBlockingQueue which has runnable code of the image processor. - Create a threadpoolexecutor for which one of the arguements is the LinkedBlockingQueue earlier. - Iterate through a for loop till the queue size and do a threadpoolexecutor.execute(linkedblockingqueue.poll). - all i see is it processes only 100 images which is the minimum thread size passed in LinkedBlockingQueue size. I see I am seriously wrong in my understanding somewhere, how do I process all the images in sets of 100(threads) until they are all done? Any examples or psuedocodes would be highly helpful Thanks!   • Discussion: Working TDD in a Scrum context

    Hi all, When I work TDD I tend to start out with the big picture and create the tests that should succeed in order for the overall assignment to be completed - it then kicks off a number of supporting classes/methods/tests as I 'dig in'. If my assignment has been planned out in detail, I would then open one task, and in order to solve it, open another and then another. Only when the overall tests are succeeding can I close the original task, which means that at any given time, I would have a number of open tasks. I find that this approach conflict somewhat with the scrum approach where, ideally, I should be able to take and close a task within a day's work - and never have more than one task open at a time. I'm looking for input about how you manage this in your project - references to articles are also very welcome, I'm sure this has been debated thoroughly somewhere...     Hi, I'm not sure how I would do this in Javascript. I want to create an array that would contain any number of error messages from my form. I read on websites that you define the key for that array when adding new entries. // Javascript var messages = new Array(); messages[0] = 'Message 1'; How can I add entries into my array using a similar method I normally do in PHP // PHP $messages = array(); $messages[] = 'Message 1'; // automatically assigned key 0 $messages[] = 'Message 2'; // automatically assigned key 1 Is it possible to emulate that in Javascript?   • Counting consecutive items within MS SQL

    Got a problem with a query I'm trying to write. I have a table that lists people that have been sent an email. There is a bit column named Active which is set to true if they have responded. But I need to count the number of consecutive emails the person has been inactive since either their first email or last active email. For example, this basic table shows one person has been sent 9 emails. They have been active within two of the emails (3 & 5). So their inactive count would be 4 as we are counting from email number 6 onwards. PersonID(int) EmailID(int) Active(bit) 1 1 0 1 2 0 1 3 1 1 4 0 1 5 1 1 6 0 1 7 0 1 8 0 1 9 0 Any pointers or help would be great. Regards Greg

  • Compilers behave differently with a null parameter of a generic method

    The following code compiles perfectly with Eclipse, but fails to compile with javac: public class HowBizarre { public static <P extends Number, T extends P> void doIt(P value) { } public static void main(String[] args) { doIt(null); } } I simplified the code, so T is not used at all now. Still, I don't see a reason for the error. For some reason javac decides that T stands for Object, and then complains that Object does not conform to the bounds of T (which is true): HowBizarre.java:6: incompatible types; inferred type argument(s) java.lang.Number,java.lang.Object do not conform to bounds of type variable (s) P,T found : <P,T>void required: void doIt(null); ^ Note that if I replace the null parameter with a non-null value, it compiles fine. Which of the compilers behaves correctly and why? Is this a bug of one of them?

    Hello, I am a newbi programmer and am having trouble with a measurement conversion program I am working on. What I would like to do is have several EditText boxes. When one is filled in and a calculate button is hit then the rest will be populated with a converted number. The part I am getting stuck on is outputting the answers to EditText widgets. ex: There are three EditText Widgets. a user inputs the number 6 into the first one (labeled inches) and presses calculate. I would like the next box to display .5 (labeled feet) and the last to display .1666 (this would be yards) .setText() apparently does not work to modify the text in an EditText any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I want to benchmark a new server using historical HTTP-request data. I have a textfile that contains one day's worth of real historical requests to a production server. What is the best tool for sending that list of requests on the server I'm testing? The tool I use should be able to configure the following: Number of threads making the requests Number of requests/second sent A list of request URLs to use when making the requests. Apache Bench seems like a close fit. However, Bench does not seem to be able to take in a list of request URLs as a parameter. What would you recommend?
