  • Porting existing code from C# 2.0 to C#3.0 and .Net 3.5 (possibly .net 4.0)

    Our one and only enterprise application suite has been developed over last 3 years using C# 2.0 on .Net 3.0. We use winforms and WCF heavily. The development tools is VS 2005 Pro / TFS 2005 / Resharper 3.1 As technical lead I obviously understand the benefits in a move to C#3.0 and .Net 3.5. But I want to convince management for a move to C#3.0, .Net 3.5, VS 2008 and TFS 2008. They will obviously be interested in things like productivity, cost, quality etc. Please suggest me some ideas on how best to make my case. Given that this may not happen till mid next year am I better off to hold till VS 2010 and .Net 4.0 is out.

  • .htaccess cross browser

    Hi, Im trying to load a custom error document for a 404 error using a .htaccess file on a linux server, the page gets the current page URL then redirects to another site (which is retrieved from a db) based on an id it retrieved from the URL. The current error documents are stored here: /error_docs/ - i dont have permission to upload anything other than the HTML files that are already in there /HTTPDocs/301redir.php is the site root where the .htaccess file is. i have used the following to load the 301redir.php page as the error doc, which works in FF but no other browsers. ErrorDocument 404 /310redir.php using .htaccess is my only real option for changing this, is there a way to get around this issue and make it work across all browsers?

    I have a servlet automatically firing up when the app server starts, and in its init(), I'm making another thread: init(){ new FooThread() } in FooThread(), i want to periodically check the status of a DB value, then depending on the value, make a web service call. When these two tasks complete, I want the thread to sleep to wait a certain period then repeat. This cycle would just continue forever.     Is there in the world analogues of JavaBeans or JAXB for PHP? Is it possible to generate PHP classes from XML schema? It's common practice to publish API's as XSD schemas. Java and C# guys can get advantage of this by generating classes right from XSD. Is there same tool for PHP?

Is there an easy way to: return 304 "Not Modified" from action; include "Last-Modified" time stamp in the response. I use return Content('my data'); for action result.     I'm having trouble with redirecting urls using the .htaccess file. This is how my htaccess file looks like: Redirect 301 /file-name/example.php http://www.mysite.com/file-name/example-001.php Redirect 301 /section-name/example.php http://www.my-site.com/section-name/example-002.php RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.mysite.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mysite.com/$1 [L,R=301] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.+)/(.*)$ hqtemplates/articles.php?file_name=$2 [L] php_value session.use_only_cookies 1 php_value session.use_trans_sid 0 Now the problem is that when I go to page: www.my-site.com/file-name/example.php instead of redirecting me to www.my-site.com/file-name/example-001.php it redirects me to www.my-site.com/file-name/example.php?file_name=example-001.php. For some reason it adds "?file_name=example-001.php" to the url. Anyone know's why this is happening and how to fix this?

  • Code management in different projects with different svn repositories

    First of all I want to tell you what kind of system I have and I want to build on. 1- A Solution (has) a- Shared Class Library project (which is for lots of different solutions) b- Another Class Library project (which is only for this solution) c- Web Application project (which main part of this solution) d- Shared Web Service project (which also serves for different solutions) 2- B Solution (has) a- Shared Class Library project (which is for lots of different solutions) c- Windows Form Application project (which is main part of this solution) d- Web Service project (which also serves for different solutions) and other projects like that.... I am using xp-dev.com as our svn repository server. And I opened different projects for these items (Shared Class Library, Web Service project, Windows Form Application project, Web Application project, Another Class Library project) . I want to do the versioning of all these projects of course. My first question is, should I put each project(one solution) to one svn repository to get their revision number later on? Or should I put each of them to different svn repository and keep( write down) their correct version number that is used to publish/deploy every solution? If I use one svn for each project(Shared Class Lib, Web App, Shared Web Service....) how can I relate the right svn address and version on VS.2010 within the real solution? So, how do you manage your repositories and projects?

  • Get location from where the Java code is executed

    I have a swing Java application that preserves a lot of data (you can think of a game and its saves for example). Those data are stored in files rather then in database. I would like to keep this files near installation files(.jar file) of my application.Some users(like me) are used to delete default application folder of OS when it comes to large and I don't want them to loose their data this way. Any ideas how to do this easily ? How do I get the folder of the .jar file from program that is executing form that .jar file? Or how do I output files directly into some package? How do I create packages(folders inside jar) dynamically ? Or is there a simple way to distribute Java application in other formats then .jar and then store generated data in installation (sub)folder ? Thanks for reading
