    Lets say I have a table with 20 entries. They are sorted by date (date is a column name _) in descending order. How would I go about selecting ONLY the newest entry and the 15th oldest entry? I am getting all 15 results by doing the following query SELECT * FROM mytable m WHERE col1 = "zzz" ORDER BY date DESC LIMIT 15;

    I'm working with a CMS system where I cannot control database column names.     I have a column of states, and, depending on the query, I want to order by results by a particular state, then by id (Asc or Desc, depending). For instance, I might want to show all rows with state "HI", sorted by ID desc, and then all the other rows, sorted by id desc. I was hoping I could do this in one query, rather than getting all my favored state results, and then getting the rest. Can I?

As I'm using nested sets to get a nested forum hierarchy, I have to run a lot of queries such as: SELECT `id` FROM `forums` WHERE 1 BETWEEN `lft` AND `rgt` My problem: CodeIgniter is replacing the "1" by "`1`" because the "1" is recognized as a column name. Of course, the query does not work any more. Is there a way to get it working? thx in advance

The timestamps however, are stored in a different table: Table A has column my_id Table B has columns my_id, timestamp I would want something like SELECT id, time FROM (SELECT my_id AS id FROM A) q1, (SELECT timestamp AS time FROM B WHERE my_id = id) q2 ; But how can I get the value of id within a different subquery? Is there an elegant solution for this problem?

    I have a small app which has Users, Recipes, Ingredients and preparation models A user has many recipes, recipes belong to user and ingredients/preparation belongs to recipes. Now a user can view all recipes but I would like the option to add the particular recipe to a favourites list. Would I need to set a new DB to hold this and then link by associations or could I add a column to the recipe model called fav for example? Im looking for the best practice here or if someone has done this before and can offer any advice that would be appreciated

    How do I do something like the following SELECT ADDDATE(t_invoice.last_bill_date, INTERVAL t_invoice.interval t_invoice.interval_unit) FROM t_invoice ...where the column t_invoice.last_bill_date is a date, t_invoice.interval is an integer and t_invoice.interval_unit is a string. Basically, I want to determine a person's next bill date based on his desired billing frequency. Is there a better way to achieve this?

    Hello, I have the problem, that MSSQL Server 2000 should select some distinct values from a table (the specific column is of the nvarchar type). There are the sometimes the same values, but with different cases, for example (pseudocode): SELECT DISTINCT * FROM ("A", "a", "b", "B") would return A,b But I do want (and do expect) A,a,b,B because they actually are different values. The second time I press it, it does not fire. Third press, fires. Fourth press, does not fire. Etc. Originally I had it bound to a command but that was behaving the same way. (I put a Debug.WriteLine() in the event handler so I know when it fires.) Any ideas? It's really odd that the click event only fires every other time.
