  • Recommendation for Wiki that supports WYSIWYG?

    Currently we use a MediaWiki installation for writing documentation, but several of us find the markup format horribly arbitrary and awkward, with a mixture of Wiki tags and XML in the text, and the lack of any quick formatting buttons for things like ordered or unordered lists, different heading levels, quick embedding of images, tables, code samples, etc. Sites like LiveJournal provide most or all of this while still generating backwards-compatible markup so it's not like there's a technological impediment here. There are other niceties that we'd like to see, such as being able to pick a category from a list (ala Wordpress) or maybe being able to apply syntax highlighting to code samples, etc. Do Wikis exist that provide a decent range of these features to make life easier on the editor? Something with the features and presentation of WordPress but the page organisation of a Wiki would be perfect. (WikiMatrix returns several candidates, but among them is MediaWiki, which quite clearly is not a WYSIWYG interface except in the most tenuous fashion. I'd rather not dig through each one if it's plain that WikiMatrix is not being entirely stringent about its criteria.)

  • Issue about Exchange 07 SP2 Backup in SBS 08

    Hi, I'm trying to backup my Exchange 07 SP2 with the Windows Server Backup. Since it's supposed to make a exchange-aware backup with the SP2, I created a scheduled full backup of the C: (where is located my First Storage Group). The backup is successful, but when I go in Mailbox database's properties, I see that the last full backup is 2 months ago (a that time backup worked but we had some issue then). In Server Manager, Features, I checked that I have Windows Server Backup Features checked. What am I missing ? Thank you !

    Since the old days ISA and now TMG have had several great features that I often want to deploy to my customers because of the enhanced functionality and security, but often the cost of an additinal server HW, Windows Server, and TMG license is too much to justify when compaired to a $300-500 appliance. Are there other gateway firewalls that can perform one or more of these application layer features: pre-auth incoming http traffic against AD/LDAP before sending packets to internal server (forms auth or basic creds popup)? read host headers of incoming http traffic (even on https) to a single public IP and route packets to different internal servers based on that host header?

    My kids both have iPod Touches and I'd like to apply some parental controls. I have had a look and I know there are some really limited features on the phone itself, and a variety of filtered browsers. However, none of them are really hitting what I want. The features I am looking for are: Filtered web (as above) Filtered access to Youtube and music Control over how often they are allowed to play games (like 1 hour per day) Whitelist control over who they can skype (or maybe facetime, but I am an android user so can't hook that net.)     All my life I used Microsoft Office on Windows for document writing and then Libre(Open)Office on Linux. This is not a bad software, but not perfect and I have some complaints. Now on my usual desktop I have Linux. I heard from people who work a lot with documents of different type and complexity (diagrams, articles, document design, presentation) that latex is a perfect thing. I have spent two days exploring Latex and my opinion as a beginner that it is out-of-date (the concepts of Latex language). The language is not intuitive and sometimes even complex. Can somebody advise another software product for document writing?

The following is the scenario I ran into: The first time Ubuntu 10.04 installation CD-R boots up, it asked for the Language, and "Install Ubuntu" and then the screen has vertical green bars and then the VPC just closed. The 2nd or 3rd time it booted up, there is no asking of Language or "Install Ubuntu" and just shut down the VPC, sometimes with vertical green bars. I even created another new hard drive and same thing happened. And created VPC 02, and same thing happened. Created VPC 03 with a fixed hard drive size of 60GB and same thing happened.

    I need to try Linux (Ubuntu) and feel hesitant to install Ubuntu on top of a Win 7 machine to dual boot (might need to use Win7 and Ubuntu at the same time). Is creating a Virtual PC on Win7, and then installing the latest Ubuntu on that Virtual PC one of the better option? So I think I can create a Virtual PC with an empty virtual hard disk (vhd), say, for 30GB, and then put in the Ubuntu DVD-R or CD-R to install Ubuntu onto that empty hard disk. This site serves PDFs which has quick web view and if I access a pdf directly from the IIS server the PDFs starts to display immediately but if I go through the proxy I have to wait until the entire pdf downloads before I can view it.     How do I get the websites that I visit to stop localizing the language probably according to my IP location? This is an website specific issue because, for example economist.com and superuser.com do not do it, but Google Checkout and craigslist.org are doing it. Is there a way to setup Ubuntu and Firefox so that English will always be used for all web pages displayed? Edit: Of course many webpages have a link to an English version, but sometimes they don't. For example I believe such links usually appear on the root resource but sometimes I see non-English languages on child resources where such links do not appear. Example: most Blogger.com blogs appear in English but when I go to the blogger's profile ("view my complete profile"), it appears in another language that matches my geographic location.

    I often work remotely and prefer using en-us locale settings for my searches. One of our computers is located in Germany, and whenever I try to change the location in Google Search Settings, I get an answer to "Pleas enter a valid Deutschland city or zip code". I checked this post, but it doesn't apply, as my language settings en-us and the Google search language is also set to English. It clearly uses the IP address of the computer. I couldn't find an answer in the Google help pages, anyone any idea how to change it London, New-York or Amsterdam?

  • VMware - Broadcom 1000Gbps NIC does not link at 100Mbps to a Cisco switch port

    Today we've stumbled on a very awkward situation with our VMWare Server. The server is with ESX 3.5 that has a 1Gbps NIC. We bought a brand new managed Cisco Linksys switch with 10/100Mbps interface ports but when we plugged the cable in one of the ports the link simply does not wanted to activate :S... Does anyone with more VMware experience have ever had similar problem? From what I know is that 1Gbps NICs are backwards compatible with 100Mbps switches.   • Google Chrome Automatically Save Passwords

    I have seen, and at one point implemented, methods of modifying firefox's password manager popup such that it would automatically save usernames and passwords without prompt. I was wondering if there is a similar feature for Chrome. I just recently switched to chrome and it is one of a few features/modifications that didnt survive the transition, and while I am moderately capable in programming in certain languages (C+, visual etc) I don't really feel confident enough to muck around unguided. For anyone that is particularly interested, the other features I miss are things such as the slash based 'quick search' in firefox... and I am currently annoyed by a different right click menu order for opening in new tabs and new windows (the reverse of firefox). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Why am I unable to send an attachment with Outlook via SMTP that I am able to send via Gmail / Google Apps?

    I have Google Apps installed and I have tried to set up Outlook 2007 to send messages via SMTP. I followed the guide, selecting what I believe are all the correct settings. Yes, I am using POP for incoming, that is intentional but I don't believe it should affect outgoing messages. When I log into gmail (google apps) for my company, I can send a message that has an 8MB attachment (pdf file, not zipped or anything) and it sends fine. However, when I send the same message in Outlook with that same 8mb attachment it fails. Why am I unable to send an attachment with Outlook via SMTP that I am able to send via Gmail / Google Apps? The message headers are (some info omitted for privacy): Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error.     Which Unix like environment do you prefer on Windows? I have found Cygwin to be very comfortable for a Windows platform (usually XP). I am wondering if there is a better alternative (not because I want to move away from Cygwin). What are the features of Cygwin that you like OR, What are features you find in alternatives that you miss in Cygwin? I am often miss binary compatibility of applications built on Cygwin. These cannot be run directly on another Windows platform. But, usually fetching a copy of cygwin1.dll suffices.   • Windows 7 equivalent of "Add-WindowsFeature"

    I'm wanting to script the "Turn Windows Features On of Off" functionality for my development group so that we'll have a means of ensuring that everyone is running on the same configurations. We are running Windows 7. Is this possible without DISM.exe? It doesn't necessarily have to be scripting. Windows Features is just one of serveral configurations that developers are responsible for modifying personally. It would also be nice to ensure (for example) that IIS and certain services are configured properly on a given developer's machine. If there's a larger scale tool that could give us this functionality, I would be interested in that too.
