  I'm creating a game and I create sprites(enemies). I keep creating and destroying sprites. Flash/Flex has a garbage collector which handles the destruction of unused resources. Should I create an object pool to reuse them, or should I leave flash/flex to handle the creation/destruction of objects? Which option is better from the performance point of view?

• Is it better to store an NSArray of NSManagedObjects or NSManagedObjectIDs?

  In my application I need to keep track of a list of objects that are being displayed. Right now I have an NSArray with all of the NSManagedObjects. Would I be better off to store the ObjectIDs and then only request the object when I need it? I am mainly concerned about memory at this point.

  hi all, in the case of an IM client. i have made 2 separate threads to handle sending packets (by std io) and receiving packets. the question is how to make these 2 threads run simultaneously so that i can keep prompting for input while at the same time be ready to receive packets at any time? i have already tried setting a timer but the data is always lost receiving.

I want keep a separate table with the last inserted id. In PHP I now insert, get last inserted id, and update the other table. Is there a more efficient way to do this.

  I am building an iphone app and would like to keep track of how many times it has been opened so that I can prompt the user to do certain actions after it has been opened X number of times. I have thought about storing a variable in Core Data which I update every time it is opened, but this seems like a waste since it is a singleton data, not multiple instances of an object. What is the best way to store data like this and access it without slowing down the app opening time?
