• Installing Disastry's PGP 2.6.3ia multi06 on 12.04 LTS

  How can I install Disastry's version of PGP 2.6.3ia-multi06 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS? His site with the source code is here: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/disastry/263multi.htm He already compiled a unix version of pgp and it's in the Linux section of his download. How can I either copy and install the binary PGP file, or compile it from the source and install. I have tried several different ways, get no error messages, but when I type pgp -h at the command line, Ubuntu tells me that pgp is not installed. (I already have truecrypt 7.1a and gnupg 1.4.16 installed, but still like the old pgp I have on windows) Thanks! traveler

• SharpSSH gets stuck in an infinite stream read in C# SSH app

  Afternoon all, I'm having a small problem with the SharpSSH library for .Net (see http://www.tamirgal.com/blog/page/SharpSSH.aspx) SshStream ssh = new SshStream("some ip address", "some username", "some password"); ssh.Prompt = "\n"; ssh.RemoveTerminalEmulationCharacters = true; ssh.Write("ssh some ip address"); // Don't care about this response ssh.ReadResponse(); ssh.Write("lss /mnt/sata[1-4]"); // Don't care about this response (for now) ssh.ReadResponse(); // while the stream can be read while (ssh.CanRead) { Console.WriteLine(ssh.ReadResponse()); } ssh.Close(); As you can see, it's fairly straight forward. However, when the while-loop gets stepped into, it won't break out of the loop when everything has been printed to the console and there is nothing else to read.   I need to write something in my html code to convert digits of form 0123456789 to ?????????? (Arabic digits). the number of visitors is generated by blog service. and I want to convert its digits to Arabic. Counter: ????? ????????????? : <BlogSky:Weblog Counter /> ??? the Persian part of above code mean 'Number of visitors' and 'Persons' (from left to right). but digits are represented in latin (0123...). Is it possible to write something like a function in html? i want it to be a global one for using in weblogs. Note: I don't know anything about web programming languages. (and don't want to learn!). I'm not sure about language of above code. (html?)

  I have a C# Windows Forms project open with some C# code in it. Question: How can I have an F# file that I can write F# code in but still referencing all the C# code I have on Form1.cs (including the GUI). I can successfully do this: - Create a C# Windows Forms project - Create a F# Library project - Reference the F# Library DLL from my C# project - That way I can call F# functions from C# But I still can't see my buttons and textboxes from F# I understand that that is because it's a library and it can't reference System.Windows.Forms So how do I fix this? I don't want it to be a library or this or that, I just want it to be a file that will allow me to write F# code while being able to reference my C# Form and code. I guess you can say I want an F# file that is also a "partial class Form1" so that I can continue writing code for the same Project, but using F# instead. How do I do that?

  Hi. The current ocx controls I'm using for voice recording and playback are not compatible with Windows 7. I'm already feeling the pressure to produce a Windows 7 compatible version of my software. The author has already stated that he is not planning to write a Windows 7 compatible ocx. I work from xharbour so I need to consume an OCX or write the whole thing (which I'd like to avoid and don't even know where to start). • Java NIO SocketChannel writing problem

  I am using Java NIO's SocketChannel to write : int n = socketChannel.write(byteBuffer); Most of the times the data is sent in one or two parts; i.e. if the data could not be sent in one attemmpt, remaining data is retried. The issue here is, sometimes, the data is not being sent completely in one attempt, rest of the data when tried to send multiple times, it occurs that even after trying several times, not a single character is being written to channel, finally after some time the remaning data is sent. What could be the cause of such behaviour? Could external factors such as RAM, etc cause the hindarance? Please help me solve this issue. If any other information is required please let me know.   I'm developing a space-simulation related game, and I am having some trouble implementing the movement of binary stars, like this: The two stars orbit their centroid, and their trajectories are ellipses. I basically know how to determine the angular velocity at any position, but not the angular velocity over time. So, for a given angle, I can very easily compute the stars position (cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orbit_equation). I'd want to get the stars position over time. The parametric equations of the ellipse works but doesn't give the correct speed : { X(t) = a×cos(t) ; Y(t) = b×sin(t) }. Is it possible, and how can it be done?

  I am trying to use the ASP.NET (3.5) "Routing Module" functionality to create custom pages based on the contents of the URL. Various articles, such as this one: http://blogs.msdn.com/mikeormond/archive/2008/05/14/using-asp-net-routing-independent-of-mvc.aspx explain how to use ASP.NET Routing to branch to existing pages on the web server. What I would like to do is create the page on-the-fly using code. My first attempt looks like this: public class SimpleRouteHandler : IRouteHandler { public IHttpHandler GetHttpHandler(RequestContext requestContext) { string pageName = requestContext.RouteData.GetRequiredString("PageName"); Page myPage = new Page(); myPage.Response.Write("hello " + pageName); return myPage; } } But this throws an HTTPException saying "Response is not available in this context." at the Response.Write statement. Any ideas on how to proceed? UPDATE: In the end, I went with an approach based on IHttpModule, which turned out to be rather easy.

  I'm trying to pull the field names in the header of some JSON output. The following is a sample of the JSON header info: {"HEADER":{"company":{"label":"Company Name"},"streetaddress":{"label":"Street Address"},"ceo":{"label":"CEO Name","fields":{"firstname":{"label":"First Name"},"lastname":{"label":"Last Name"}}} I'm able to loop through the header and output the field and label (i.e. company and Company Name) using the following code: obj = JSON.parse(jsonResponse); for (var key in obj.HEADER) { response.write ( obj.HEADER[key].label ); response.write ( key ); } but can't figure out how to loop through and output the sub array of fields (i.e. firstname and First Name). Any ideas?

• How do you Install the Latest Release of Miro?

  In the software centre the latest release of Miro available is 4.0.4 whereas the latest release of Miro is 5.0.4. How do I download 5.0.4 on 12.10? I have tried following the guide at http://www.getmiro.com/download/for-ubuntu/ (and thus have already run sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pcf/miro-releases) but it failed and when I tried to run sudo apt-get update I received the error: W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/pcf/miro-releases/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/source/Sources 404 Not Found W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/pcf/miro-releases/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

• Are there any free .NET OCR libraries that will perform OCR on an application window directly?

  I am looking for a free .NET OCR library that will be able to do OCR on a given application window or even a image in memory (I can take a snapshot of the application window myself). I have looked at tessnet2 and MODI but both require an image located on disk. I need to use OCR because the application I am trying to write a script for does some wacky stuff that cannot be read using windows API and I need to scrape data from the screen. I have tested both of tessnet2 and MODI and they both can read the text mostly but because this has to run in an enviroment that will not be able to write to disk, I need it to be able to read directly from the applciation window or some type of memory stream. I am thinking OCR is my only soution but there could be other methods that I am not thinking of. Suggestions?

• Passing a non-iterable to list.extend ()

  Hello, I am creating a public method to allow callers to write values to a device, call it write_vals() for example. Since these values will by typed live, I would like to simplify the user's life by allowing them type in either a list or a single value, depending on how many values they need to write. For example: write_to_device([1,2,3]) or write_to_device(1) My function would like to work with a flat list, so I tried to be clever and code something like this: input_list = [] input_list.extend( input_val ) This works swimmingly when the user inputs a list, but fails miserably when the user inputs a single integer: TypeError: 'int' object is not iterable Using list.append() would create a nested list when a list was passed in, which would be an additional hassle to flatten. Checking the type of the object passed in seems clumsy and non-pythonic and wishing that list.extend() would accept non-iterables has gotten me nowhere. So has trying a variety of other coding methods. Suggestions (coding-related only, please) would be greatly appreciated.

• questions about multi threading for sockets/tcp-connections.

  I have a server that connects to multiple clients using TCP/IP connections, using C in Unix. Since it won't have more than 20 connections at a time, I figured I would use a thread per connection/socket. But the problem is writing to the sockets as I'll be sending user prompted msgs to clients. Once each socket is handled by a thread, how do I interact with the created thread to write to the sockets? Should each thread just read from the sockets and I'll write to sockets in the main program? Not sure if that's a good way to go about it.

• Converting raw bytes into audio sound

  In my application I inherit a javastreamingaudio class from the freeTTS package then bypass the write method which sends an array of bytes to the SourceDataLine for audio processing. Instead of writing to the data line, I write this and subsequent byte arrays into a buffer which I then bring into my class and try to process into sound. My application processes sound as arrays of floats so I convert to float and try to process but always get static sound back. I am sure this is the way to go but am missing something along the way. I know that sound is processed as frames and each frame is a group of bytes so in my application I have to process the bytes into frames somehow. Am I looking at this the right way? Thanx in advance for any help.

• Unable to save to wincache from cakePHP shell

  I'm trying to retrieve the weather from wunderground.com through their API, and store it in wincache. For testing purposes I made this function in the News model: public function updateWeather(){ $results = file_get_contents('http://api.wunderground.com/api/**api_key**/conditions/q/CA/Montreal.json'); $results = json_decode($results); return Cache::write('weather', $results); } It works fine when I call this from the controller. However, I can't figure why that same function doesn't work when called from the console. I made this shell in order to eventually add this to windows task scheduler. class WeatherShell extends AppShell { public $uses = array('News'); public function main() { $this->News->updateWeather(); } } When running this, I see that $results is correctly populated. I get 'true' from Cache::write(), however, I get 'false' when trying to read. What subtlety am I missing?
