  • Setting up a DNS name server for a mass virtual host with Bind9

    I am trying to set up a chrooted DNS name server in a local LAN like this everyone connected in the LAN can have access to the mass virtual hosts defined for a development ambience without having to edit manually their local /etc/hosts one by one. The mass virtual host is named example.user.dev (VirtualDocumentRoot /home/user/example ) and example.test (DocumentRoot /var/www/example). I set up everything and the /var/log/syslog doesn't show any error, but when checking the DNS with: host -v example.test Doesn't find the host. The link above uses version 1.1 and the plugin version I am using is 0.7.1. Is this going to make any diff. Can someone tell what is wrong here. I checked codeproject.com and stackoverflow all day and didn't find any hints exept some thread on stackoverflow where someone mentioned there is a need to created a IDispatch interface.     I have a bash shell script that loops through all child directories (but not files) of a certain directory. The problem is that some of the directory names contain spaces. Here are the contents of my test directory: $ls -F test Baltimore/ Cherry Hill/ Edison/ New York City/ Philadelphia/ cities.txt And the code that loops through the directories: for f in `find test/* -type d`; do echo $f done Here's the output: test/Baltimore test/Cherry Hill test/Edison test/New York City test/Philadelphia Cherry Hill and New York City are treated as 2 or 3 separate entries. I tried quoting the filenames, like so: for f in `find test/* -type d | sed -e 's/^/\"/' | sed -e 's/$/\"/'`; do echo $f done but to no avail. There's got to be a simple way to do this. Any ideas? The answers below are great. But to make this more complicated - I don't always want to use the directories listed in my test directory. Sometimes I want to pass in the directory names as command-line parameters instead. I took Charles' suggestion of setting the IFS and came up with the following: dirlist="${@}" ( [[ -z "$dirlist" ]] && dirlist=`find test -mindepth 1 -type d` && IFS=$'\n' for d in $dirlist; do echo $d done ) and this works just fine unless there are spaces in the command line arguments (even if those arguments are quoted).     I'm writing a program in F# at the moment, which I specified in the Visual Studio project setup to target .Net 3.5, this being the highest offered, on the theory that I might as well get the best available. Then I tried just now running the compiled program on an XP box, not expecting it to work, but just to see what would happen. Unsurprisingly I just got an error message demanding an appropriate version of the framework, but surprisingly it wasn't 3.5 it demanded, but 2.0.50727. An additional puzzle is the version of MSBuild I'm using to compile the release version of the program, which I found in the framework 3.5 directory but claims to be framework 2.0 and build engine 3.5. I just guessed it was the right version of MSBuild to use because it seemed to correspond with the highest framework version F# seems to be able to target, but should I be using a different version? Anyone have any idea what's going on?     I need to made available a library to some bundles. This library makes use of RMI, so it needs (as far as I know, at least) to use the system class loader in order to work (I tried to "osgi-fy" the library, which results in classcastexceptions at runtime). So what I did was to remove the dependencies from the bundles that use that library, compile them with the library included in the property jars.extra.classpath (in the build.properties of the eclipse project).   • How can you test communication on a COM/Serial port?

    We have a OHAUAS Weighting scales with a COM port. if we connect this to a PC we should be able to get the weight on the computer by sending a command to it. Is there a way to test this? i tried the command line echo "LP" com1 but this does nothing. A small C# application that listens to this port seems to be continuously receive Hexadecimal numbers (2 digits then an enter), however sending a command through this application doesn't give readable results. When i do listen on the port though, the echo "LP" com1 command gives an unavaible error, so sending the command works in cmd. Does anyone have any knowledge on a simple way to test a send and receive on a com port?

  • What is the impact of upgrading MSBuild to VS2010 for projects targeting .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.5?

    I’m working on the build process for a VS 2010 solution and some projects within it target the .NET framework 4.0. As far as I know, to have this type of solution built by TFS 2008 we will have to change the version of the MSBuild.exe file used by the build agent – modifying the TFSBuildService.exe.config file, pointing MSBuildPath entry accordingly. Do you know if this will have any impact to existing project builds that target the 2.0 and 3.5 framework? Are you aware of any known issues with this type of set up?

    Running Ubuntu 13.04 Host and vm Guest. Using virtio for hdd, nic. Max-allocaion CPU cores is 6, minimum is 2. Ive made a vm with virt-manager just to play with, and to test out kvm. Alright, I have a decent understand how the memory balloon driver works, but I still dont know how to test if the guest OS can utilize the max setting for cpu cores. From what i gather, the host will start one thread of qemu for each core allocated per vm. When i run htop inside the guest, it only shows two cores. (also here is the output of cat /proc/cpuinfo: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/93a361545130923537da ) How can I "force" the guest to allocate the other 4 cores so that it can show 6 cores in htop? Is there a way to do this?

    How do I make the manifest available during a Maven/Surefire unittest run "mvn test" ? I have an open-source project that I am converting from Ant to Maven, including its unit tests. Here's the project source repository with the Maven project: http://github.com/znerd/logdoc My question pertains to the primary module, called "base". This module has a unit test that tests the behaviour of the static method getVersion() in the class org.znerd.logdoc.Library. This method returns: Library.class.getPackage().getImplementationVersion() The getImplementationVersion() method returns a value of a setting in the manifest file. So far, so good. I have tested this in the past and it works well, as long as the manifest is indeed available on the classpath at the path META-INF/MANIFEST.MF (either on the file system or inside a JAR file). Now my challenge is that the manifest file is not available when I run the unit tests: mvn test Surefire runs the unit tests, but my unit test fails with a mesage indicating that Library.getVersion() returned null. When I want to check the JAR, I find that it has not even been generated. Maven/Surefire runs the unit tests against the classes, before the resources are added to the classpath. So can I either run the unit tests against the JAR (implicitly requiring the JAR to be generated first) or can I make sure the resources (including the manifest file) are generated/copied under target/classes before the unit tests are run? Note that I use Maven 2.2.0, Java 1.6.0_17 on Mac OS X 10.6.2, with JUnit 4.8.1.

What i do now is create a database testscript and set my database in a know condition before testing. So when i test this method in the unit test, i know that there must be one more client in the database, and what it's name is. In short: ClientController cc = new ClientController(); cc.Create(new FormCollection (){name="John"}); //i know i had 10 clients before assert.areEqual(11, ClientService.GetNumberOfClients()); //the last inserted one is John assert.areEqual("John", ClientService.GetAllClients()[10].Name); So i've read that unit testing should not be hitting the database, i've setup an IOC for the database classes, but then what? I can create a fake database class, and make it do nothing. But then ofcourse my assertions will not work because if i say GetNumberOfClients() it will alwasy return X because it has no interaction with the fake database class used in the Create Method. I can also create a List of Clients in the fake database class, but as there will be two different instance created (one in the controller action and one in the unit test), they will have no interaction. What is the way to make this unit test work without a database?
