  • a simple secenerio to implement java script asp.net C#, question rephrased

    i had asked this question before but got no answer correct. so, this is a simple thing textbox.text='user typing'; button:-store the value to a variable and a database. very simple nothing to it but there should be no post back, that is the page must not load again, try ajax? tried it not working i must a lot of time trying to implement this using java script ajax and read many many post, but for some reason i cannot implement the functionality correctly. please help. thank you

    Hi I have seen a few posts regarding Session and using target blank to open a new page. But I still don´t get it. Im working with an application which opens from a link on an Intranet site. I guess it uses target blank to get it in a new window. (I don´t have the source). If both windows are closed (My application and the Intranet site) it seems like the Session is destroyed. I need that to happen when my application is closed. (ie, still leaving the Intranet site open). If I use the site in my testenvironment without opening it from a page with target blank, it seems like I get the expected behaviour. Web.config has: pages enableSessionState="true" Thanks

  • Access to path denied when saving an image with ASP.NET 4.0 project

    I have an existing application that was written in .NET 3.5. The piece of code in question is using the FileUpload control and its SaveAs method. Its worked perfectly for the past six months, but I've recently upgraded the project to .NET 4.0 and I'm now receiving an "Access to path (...) is denied" every time the method is called. It works fine locally in dev mode but fails on my prod server. I've upgraded the website to run under .NET 4.0 and I've made sure the account (Network Service) it runs under in the app pool has full control. Other than upgrading to .NET 4.0, nothing has changed for the project. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    I have inside a controller PostLogicController.cs public ActionResult GetCreateNormalPost() { return PartialView("CreateNormalPost", null); } CreateNormalPost is inside the folder Post (which belongs to another post controller). How do I go about returning the CreateNormalPost.ascx? My folders are structured as follows: Controllers PostController.cs PostLogicController.cs Views Post Index.aspx CreateNormalPost.ascx There is no folder for PostLogicController.

  • ASP.net MVC DropLownList db.SaveChanges not saving selection

    I have looked through a ton of tutorials and suggestions on how to work with DropDownList in MVC. I was able to get most of it working, but the selected item is not saving into the database. I am using MVC 3 and Razor for the view. My DropDownList is getting created with the correct values and good looking HTML. When I set a breakpoint, I can see the correct selected item ID in the model getting sent to controller. When the view goes back to the index, the DropDownList value is not set. The other values save just fine. Here are the related views.     Hey guys, I'm currently thinking about caching most of my viewdata excpt user specific data after a user logs on. I thought the simplest way was caching the ViewData object itself and adding the user specific data after it was loaded. Are there any downsides of this approach?     I am using OAuth (linq2twitter and DotNetOpenAuth) to allow a user to post comments via their twitter account. So when you do the authorization twitter does a callback, so the way linq2twitter does it is to set the callback to the page that did the req. So if the req came from blah.com\twit it will redirect to blah.com\twit. This leads me to have code like this: public ActionResult Twit(){ var qString = Request.QueryString; if (qString.Count <= 0){ //do authorization } else{ //do authentication } } So I would like to split it to this(seemingly both of these calls are done via GET): public ActionResult Twit(){} public ActionResult Twit(string token1, string token2){} When I have this currently I get the .net yellow screen complaining about ambiguous action methods. How do I route this?

    Hi! I have a login page with an input of type "password" I would like to have a virtual keyboard to enter the password. I've searched and I found the jquery script for virtual keyboard. However, I can't really see why it's better to use jQuery templates instead of simply fetching partial views via AJAX. It simply seems like the partial views would be much easier to maintain and helps to avoid duplication of code. I want to use jQuery templates. But when would it be better than partial views?

    I have htmlAttributes generated - originally for the purpose of creating a link with the attribute using Html.ActionLink. Now, based on some condition, I would like to create a <span> tag instead and put the attributes in there. Is there anyway it can be done easily ? Eg: something like: <span <%= htmlAttributes.Unpack() %> > Some txt </span> OR <%= Html.SpanTag("Some txt", htmlAttributes) %> OR anything similar without wresling too much with the already generated htmlAttribues?   • response.write only working IE for ASP.NET

    I'm using uploadify (http://www.uploadify.com/) to upload video to my site then convert them into *.flv using ffmpeg and play preview. But it dosen't fully working with firefox, chrome or safari. uploadify provides a onComplete interface, so when the script (.ashx, .php) used on your site for saving uploaded files. you can use response.write("blabla") or (echo "blabla") to invoke the javascript function that registed as OnComplete. i have test with few video files like avi, mpg, mp4, they are less then 50mb,and they all worked with all 4 browsers. However, when i was trying to upload a 75mb mp4 file, it worked in IE, but didn't working in other three. I can see the .flv file has been create in the upload folder, i can see debug messsage output after response.write("blabla"), but the javascript function was not invoked. i.e. the preview didn't play. anyone knows why? is there a timeout or something on response.write so after a period of time it wont work? e.g. 75mb file took longer time to convert than other smaller size file i tried. thansk

  • Caching issue with javascript and asp.net

    Hi guys: I asked a question a while back on here regarding caching data for a calendar/scheduling web app, and got some good responses. However, I have now decided to change my approach and stat caching the data in javascript. I am directly caching the HTML for each day's column in the calendar grid inside the $('body').data() object, which gives very fast page load times (almost unnoticable). However, problems start to arise when the user requests data that is not yet in the cache. This data is created by the server using an ajax call, so it's asynchronous, and takes about 0.2s per week's data. My current approach is simply to block for 0.5s when the user requests information from the server, and cache 4 weeks either side in the inital page load (and 1 extra week per page change request), however I doubt this is the optimal method. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to improve the situation? To summarise: Each week takes 0.2s to retrieve from the server, asynchronously. Performance must be as close to real-time as possible. (however the data is not needed to be fully real-time: most appointments are added by the user and so we can re-cache after this) Currently 4 weeks are cached on either side of the inial week loaded: this is not enough. to cache 1 year takes ~ 21s, this is too slow for an initial load.

    I've made a web application that has the following architecture: Every form is a UserControl, there is just one actual page (Default.aspx), and a parameter in the URL specifies which UserControl to load. The UserControl is loaded in an UpdatePanel so that it can enjoy full AJAX-iness. There is also an elaborate message displaying mechanism that I use. Eventually messages end up in one designated area on top of the Default.ASPX with some nice formatting 'n stuff. Now, I would also like to capture any unhandled exceptions that originate in the UserControl and display it in this area with all the bells-and-whistles that I've made for messages. How can I do this? The Page.Error and ScriptManager.AsyncPostBackError somehow don't work for me...

    I have a regularexpression validator which validates a valid email. I have two buttons on my form. Submit and undo. On undo, we are reverting the page state to default submit has it validationgroup set while undo doesnot have any validationgroup and CausesValidation="false". Now when i navigate to page and enter invalid emailaddress,i directly click undo. the validator fires and stops my page from posting.however if i press tab and navigate to other control and then click undo,the validator shows error message but posts back and furthur proessing is done. This is very strange and i want the page to postback without any error message when i click undo.how to achieve it.
