  • Does IE6 Really not Allow Me to set width/height from left/right/top/bottom???

    - by viatropos
Building a site super quick and having it work on all my Mac browsers, I thought I'd take a gander on a friends old dell laptop with Windows XP and IE6. Nothing looks remotely correct. It's because I used lots of left/right/top/bottom (constraint) declarations to size elements proportionally to their parent's size (I didn't use percent sizes because the percents refer to the parent's size before margins and padding are applied, left/right/top/bottom refer to them after with position:absolute. I'm asking about that here :)). I've read lots these past few weeks on how horrible IE6 (and IE) is in general, but because of all the reasons people say to support it (large market share and the fear of installing better software), and because half the people in the company we're building a site for use IE6 (getting them to upgrade to Chrome slowly but surely), I thought if I could just get IE6 to render my constraints, that might help. So I am messing around with simple layouts here, and they work fine in my latest versions of Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Opera, but IE6 is basically saying: If you haven't set a width or height on me, I'm assuming it's zero. But position:absolute; left:0px; right:0px; top:0px; bottom:0px; on a container that's width:1000px; height:1000px; should be the same as setting width:1000px; height:1000px on the child, no? Taking a quick look at the source for this, why won't IE6 render the constraint based absolutely positioned AND SIZED elements? (note: I will be messing around with that file for a while) Thanks

  • slideIn and slideOut reduces width of component

    - by shub
Can someone help me to solve the problem of reducing the width of the component during SlideIn or SlideOut? I am using the Ext JS version 4.1 RC1. Ext.onReady(function () { Ext.create('Ext.container.Viewport', { layout: 'border', items: [{ region: 'north', autoHeight: true, border: false, margins: '0 0 5 0', items: [{ xtype: 'container', id: 'con_notification-box', cls: 'notification-box', hidden: true, border: true, width: 500, height: 0, style: { position: 'fixed', minHeight: '75px !important', left: '50%', marginLeft: '-250px', zIndex: '999999', backgroundColor: 'white' }, items:[{ xtype: 'container', html: '<p>Insert your information text here.</p>' },{ xtype: 'container', id: 'con_application-close', cls: 'notification-close', html: '<br />Close' }] },{ xtype: 'container', html: '<h1 class="x-panel-header">Your title</h1>' }] }] }); var con_notification_box = Ext.getCmp('con_notification-box').getEl(); con_notification_box.slideIn('t', { easing: 'easeOut', duration: 500 }); Ext.getCmp('con_application-close').getEl().on('click',function(){ con_notification_box.slideOut('t', { duration: 2000 }); }); }); I'd be very grateful if you could help me. Kind regards, shub

  • Jquery menu help please

    I am having trouble with this menu, when I hover to the subcategories they keep slideup. I want the subcategories to remain when I hover it and when I move my mouse outside it will slideup, same go to the main categories. Please help. I had been working on this for 1 hour but no solution. $(document).ready(function(){ $('ul#level1').slideUp(); $('a#tab').hover(function(){ var content_show = $(this).attr('title'); $('.'+ content_show).stop().slideDown(); },function(){ var content_show = $(this).attr('title'); $('.'+ content_show).stop().slideUp(); }); }); <li><a href="#" id="tab" class="active" title="one">Sport</a> <ul id="level1" class="one"> <li><a href="#">View All</a></li> <li><a href="#" >Shoes</a></li> <li><a href="#" >T-Shirt</a></li> <li><a href="#" >Tools</a></li> <li><a href="#" >Hats</a></li> <li><a href="#">Pants</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#" id="tab" class="tab" title="two">Foods</a> <ul id="level1" class="two"> <li><a href="#">Link Here</a></li> <li><a href="#">Link Here</a></li> <li><a href="#">Link Here</a></li> <li><a href="#">Link Here</a></li> <li><a href="#">Link Here</a></li> </ul> </li>

  • Dropdown menu getting hidden by images

    - by Bob
I have a set of dropdown menus across the top of a web page. Below is text and some images. When I hover over the top of each menu the menu then expands below as expected but while it overlaps any text on the page it is hidden behind any images. I set the z-index to 9999 and the position is set to absolute. I found if I lower the opacity of the images to say 0.6 then the menu will overlap it. So one solution would be to detect when the menu is being hovered over and then in JavaScript or JQuery temporarily reduce the opacity of the rest of the page until the cursor moves off the menu. If so I'm not sure how to do that but is that the best approach?

  • Adding a comment system to my website

    - by MJ93
Hey everyone, I'm trying to add some type of comment system to my website for the news that I post on the main page. What I would like it to do is have anybody comment on it (they don't need to login). The comment submission form just required a Name and comment. What would be the simplest way to do this? It would also be nice to have it display how many comments there currently are on the news post. I dont need anything fancy. Thanks!

  • Limiting number of text lines in a table cell

    - by Kuzco
I have a table cell where I need to limit the text to a max of two lines. I tried achieving this by placing an inner div with a limited height: div { border: 1px solid #EECCDD; width: 100px; height: 40px; overflow: hidden; } <div> <p>bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla</p> </div> <div> <p>bla bla bla bla</p> </div> However, in this case the cells which have only one line of text are not vertically aligned to the middle. I know there are ways to vertically align a text within a div, but most of the ones I found seemed a bit complicated and/or hacky (like this one), and felt like a bit of an overkill. Is there a different way to effectively limit the number of lines inside the cell, or a simple way to align the text in the way I did it?

  • How to make all controls of a column the same width

    - by ant18
Hi I need to know if there's any way of making all controls of a column the same width, and that all these controls are as wide as the cells that contain them. I added a demo on JSFiddle with the controls I'm using. I tried using size for the input texts and style="width:" for the selects , and even though I managed to make them the same width,(it doesn't seem to work in Chrome) it's kinda difficult , that's why I'd like to know if there is any more straightforward way to do the same thing Any ideas or insights?

  • Drupal: Javascript + SWFObject: could you help me to understand why the video is not displaying in I

    - by Patrick
hi, I cannot solve this issue with the video at this link: http://www.sanstitre.ch/drupal/portfolio?tid[0]=66 It displays correctly in all browsers but not in IE8 or IE7. The IE8 debugger doesn't give me any error message. If I'm not wrong the video object is not added in IE. So, for some reason the Drupal module, jQuery Media and the library SWFObject are not adding it in IE browsers... any tip ? thanks

  • Vetical and Horizontally Align an image in a box

    - by Rhyso
The problem: I have a set width and height image Lets say height:160px; width:200px; with an image in each box. The image can vary in size but I need a solution that will always center the image vertically and horizontally within the box no matter what it's size. Horizontal doesn't seem to be a problem by using margin: 0 auto but vertical is proving difficult. I have tried vertical align: center but this doesnt appear to work either Any help is appriciated Thanks

  • Remove margin between rows of overflowing inline elements

    - by Ian
I'm creating a tile-based game and am using block rendering to update a large list of tiles. I'm attempting to do this in the most simple manner, so I've been trying to work with HTML's default layouts. Right now I'm creating 'inline-blocks', omitting whitespace between the elements to avoid horizontal spaces in between them but when the blocks overflow and create a new line there is some vertical margining in which I do not know how to remove. Example to make this a bit clearer: http://jsfiddle.net/mLa93/13/ (Pretty much I just need to remove the spacing between the block rows while retaining the simple markup.)

  • <span> containing 3 overlapping images has 3x the necessary width

    - by Nathan Parrish
Hi guys, I have a element, containing three overlapping images. Inspecting the element in Chrome shows this: <span id=?"span1">? <img id=?"img1" src=?"images/?progressbar.gif" width=?"120" style=?"position:? relative;? z-index:? 3;?">? <img id=?"img2" src=?"images/?progressbar.gif" style=?"width:? 120px;? height:? 12px;?? position:? relative;? left:? -120px;? z-index:? 2;?">? <img id=?"img3" src=?"images/?progressbar.gif" style=?"width:? 120px;? height:? 12px;? position:? relative;? left:? -240px;? z-index:? 1;?">? </span>? The important point is that the second two images are given a relative position, shifting them to the left so they perfectly overlap the first. But the span itself is still 360 pixels wide (3 x 120 pixels per image). So how can I achieve this effect while keeping the span width tightly bounded around the images? Thanks!

  • Different positioning in Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari?

    - by Hristo
Hello, I believe this question has been asked a lot of times, and I have managed to overcome this problem before whenever it occurred. Just now, I feel stuck with it and can't find a proper solution to make it work in all browsers: it does work properly only in Firefox, while in IE and Safari its elements are somehow apart from each other. You can see the result here: http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/8393/firefox.png http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/8041/10990669.png This is the code I use: http://pastebin.com/n6KEjazp Thank you very much in advance!

  • Fickle IE Issues with Height:100%'

    - by Mike R
    I am trying to set the height to 100% in the viewport for Internet Explorer. As you might imagine, the following code works everywhere else: * { margin: 0; padding: 0; } html, body { height: 100%; } body { font-family: Times New Roman, Times, serif; font-size: 13px; background-color:#E8E8E8; background:url(/images/background.png) repeat-x; } #wrap { margin:0 auto; width: 935px; /* Change to desired width :) */ min-height: 100%; background:url(/images/content.png)repeat-y; } #main { overflow: auto; padding-bottom: 112px; } /* must be same height as the footer */
