• Override comparison for F# set

  Is there any way to override the comparison function in a F# set? I don't see any set construction functions that take a IComparer<T> or comparison function: Set.ofSeq et al don't take a comparison function FSharpSet(IComparer<T> comparer, SetTree<T> tree) constructor is internal, because SetTree is internal and SetTreeModule.ofSeq<a>(IComparer<a> comparer, IEnumerable<a> c) is obviously internal too. My actual problem is that I have a set of ('a * 'a) and I want a comparison such that for example (1,3) = (3,1). I know I could wrap this in a type implementing IComparable<T>, but is there any way to avoid this?

• How to use xcode compiler warnings to determine minimum IOS deployment target

  I'm building an iOS app using Xcode 3.2.5 with the Base SDK set to iOS 4.2 I know I've used some api's from 4.0 and 4.1 but not sure about whether I actually require 4.2. According to the iOS Development Guide, "Xcode displays build warnings when it detects that your application is using a feature that’s not available in the target OS release". So I was hoping to use the compiler warnings to derive my minimum OS requirement. However, even when I set my iOS Deployment Target to iOS 3.0, I still don't get any compiler warnings. I must be doing something wrong, but not sure what? Can anyone confirm that they get compiler warnings when the iOS deployment target is less than the base SDK and the code uses base SDK functions? Or do the compiler warnings only show if you link a framework that didn't exist in the iOS deployment target version?

• In MVC view page javascript file url not resolving

  Hello All: I have one MVC view page in which I show different links and I am using ThickBox to show a different page when ever one of these links is clicked. In these pages, I am using jQuery functions to do some changes, but I am not able to resolve the jquery file path on the view pages. I need to give absolute path something like "http://test.com/js/jquery.js". But is there any way to make it relative? I also tried getting the host url and using <%=% and <%# % but none is working. • Javascript callback on blackberry

  I'm working on a mobile project, and I have a script that is dynamically generated on the backend and then appended to the document (the html page). Desktop browsers seem to append the script correctly and call any functions in the script, however, I can't get this to happen on Blackberry phones. I know that the script is being appending because I can alert it after I append it. I just can get it to call the function in the script. For example, if I have code like this: var scriptText = document.createElement('script'); scriptText.type = 'text/javascript'; scriptText.id = 'thisScript'; scriptText.innerHTML = 'alert("hello");'; document.getElementById('idName').appendChild(scriptText); alert(document.getElementById('thisScript')); //Alerts the script element. This will alert 'hello' in desktop browsers and even the iPhone/iPodTouch, but not BlackBerry's. Anyone have any idea why? Or if there's a fix/hack?

• plist vs static array

  Generally, I use static arrays and dictionaries for containing lookup tables in my classes. However, with the number of classes creeping quickly into the hundreds, I'm hesitant to continue using this pattern. Even if these static collections are initialized lazily, I've essentially got a bounded memory leak going on as someone uses my app. Most of these are arrays of strings so I can convert strings into NSInteger constants that can be used with switch statements, etc. I could just recreate the array/dictionary on every call, but many of these functions are used heavily and/or in tight loops. So I'm trying to come up with a pattern that is both performant and not persistent. If I store the information in a plist, does the iphoneOS do anything intelligent about caching those when loaded? Do you have another method that might be related?

  I am using a simple search that displays search results: @adds = Add.search(params[:search]) In addition to the search results I'm trying to utilize a method, nearbys(), which displays objects that are close in proximity to the search result. The following method displays objects which are close to 2, but it does not display object 2. How do I display object 2 in conjunction with the nearby objects? @adds = Add.find(2).nearbys(10) While the above code functions, when I use search, @adds = Add.search(params[:search]).nearbys(10) a no method error is returned, undefined methodnearbys' for Array:0x30c3278` How can I search the model for an object AND use the nearbys() method AND display all results returned?

• Iterating Oracle collections of objects with out exploding them

  I'm using Oracle object data types to represent a timespan or period. And I've got to do a bunch of operations that involve working with collections of periods. Iterating over collections in SQL is significantly faster than in PL/SQL. CREATE TYPE PERIOD AS OBJECT ( beginning DATE, ending DATE, ... some member functions...); CREATE TYPE PERIOD_TABLE AS TABLE OF PERIOD; -- sample usage SELECT <<period object>>.contains(period2) FROM TABLE(period_table1) t The problem is that the TABLE() function explodes the objects into scalar values, and I really need the objects instead. I could use the scalar values to recreate the objects but this would incur the overhead of re-instantiating the objects. And the period is designed to be subclassed so there would be additional difficulty trying to figure out what to initialize it as. Is there another way to do this that doesn't destroy my objects?

• Why dont Android applications provide an "Exit" option?

  Is there something in the Android developer guidelines that disuadea developers from providing the option to "exit" (stop running) an application from within the application itself? I love multitasking and all but it's not clear to me why: the vast majority of apps don't have their own Exit functions and hence just keep running forever don't give you a choice about running when you turn on the phone - they just do by default Both of these things lead to memory usage constantly increasing and your device running with this performance burden all of the time despite the fact that you may only want certain apps to run some of the time. Am I missing something?

  I'm using MCX (I don't even know if someone here is familiar with it, pretty unkown derivate of COBOL and Fortran, look it up in google when you don't believe me) Note: I'm using MCX on the MCX-WebServices server as it does neither support apache or ISS, mabye that is one problem. The thing is that I want to use the XML library to read in an XML file and convert it into an output format readable by the user. • C++: Declaration of template class member specialization (+ Doxygen bonus question!)

  When I specialize a (static) member function/constant in a template class, I'm confused as to where the declaration is meant to go. Here's an example of what I what to do - yoinked directly from IBM's reference on template specialization: template<class T> class X { public: static T v; static void f(T); }; template<class T> T X<T>::v = 0; template<class T> void X<T>::f(T arg) { v = arg; } template<> char* X<char*>::v = "Hello"; template<> void X<float>::f(float arg) { v = arg * 2; } int main() { X<char*> a, b; X<float> c; c.f(10); // X<float>::v now set to 20 } The question is, how do I divide this into header/cpp files? The generic implementation is obviously in the header, but what about the specialization? It can't go in the header file, because it's concrete, leading to multiple definition. But if it goes into the .cpp file, is code which calls X::f() aware of the specialization, or might it rely on the generic X::f()? So far I've got the specialization in the .cpp only, with no declaration in the header. I'm not having trouble compiling or even running my code (on gcc, don't remember the version at the moment), and it behaves as expected - recognizing the specialization. But A) I'm not sure this is correct, and I'd like to know what is, and B) my Doxygen documentation comes out wonky and very misleading (more on that in a moment). • UTF-8 xml file shows Gibberish

  I have a UTF-8 encoded xml file, which was exported from a Wordpress MySQL database. While the file is saved as UTF-8, and the encoding is UTF-8, I get gibberish instead of the Hebrew text that is supposed to be in there, which looks like this: ™×•×˜×•×ª How can I find the original encoding or charset and convert the text into proper Hebrew? PHP's mb_detect_encoding($str); returns UTF-8 Tried all sorts of php encoding functions, with different settings and input/output charsets, but they all just print different looking gibberish blocks, like: ÃâÃËÃâ¢Ãâ¢ÃËà and ?? ××©×ž× ...Any Ideas how to go about this?

  I currently develop a small OS for an embedded platform based on a ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller. The OS provides an API for customer application development. The OS kernel and the API is compiled into a static lib by the ARMCC compiler and customer can link his application against it. The lib and the containing object files offer the complete list of symbols used in kernel. To "protect" the kernel and its inner states from extern hooking into obvious variables and functions, I would like to do some easy obfuscation by renaming the symbols randomly. The GNU binutils seems to do this by calling objcopy with the --redefine-sym flag. The GNU binutils cannot read the ARMCC / RVCT objects. Is there any solution to do this kind of obfuscation with RVCT?

• C++ 'mutable' keyword

  A while ago I came across some code that marked a member variable of a class with the 'mutable' keyword. As far as I can see it simply allows you to modify a variable in a 'const' method: class Foo { private: mutable bool done_; public: void doSomething() const { ...; done_ = true; } }; Is this the only use of this keyword or is there more to it than meets the eye? I have since used this technique in a class, marking a boost::mutex as mutable allowing const functions to lock it for thread-safety reasons, but, to be honest, it feels like a bit of a hack.

• Accessing structure through pointers [c]

  I've got a structure which holds names and ages. I've made a linked-list of these structures, using this as a pointer: aNode *rootA; in my main. Now i send **rootA to a function like so addElement(5,"Drew",**rootA); Because i need to pass rootA by reference so that I can edit it in other functions (in my actual program i have two roots, so return will not work) The problem is, in my program, i can't say access the structure members. *rootA->age = 4; for example doesnt work.   I'm looking for a simple component that displays mathematical expressions in Delphi. When I started out I thought it would be easy to find something on the net, but it turns out it was harder than anticipated. There are lots and lots of components that will parse mathematical expressions, but few (none?) that will display them. Ideally I would like a component as simple as a TLabel, where I could set the caption to some expression and it would be displayed correctly, but some sort of library that let's me draw expressions to a canvas would also be sufficient for my needs. • jquery $(window).width() and $(window).height() return different values when viewport has not been r

  I am writing a site using jquery that repeatedly repeatedly calls $(window).width() and $(window).height() to position and size elements based on the viewport size... In troubleshooting I discovered that I am getting slightly different viewport size reports in repeated calls to the above jquery functions when the viewport is not resized... Wondering if there is any special case anyone knows of when this happens, or if this is just the way it is. The difference in sizes reported are 20px or less, it appears. It happens in Safari 4.0.4, Firefox 3.6.2 and Chrome 5.0.342.7 beta on Mac OS X 10.6.2... I didn't test other browsers yet because it doesn't appear to be specific to the browser. I was also unable to figure out what the difference depends upon - if it isn't the viewport size, could there be another factor that makes the results differ? Any insight would be appreciated...
