  • How do I secure password parameters in RESTful web service URIs?

    i'm a newbie to server-side programming, so please forgive me if this gets messy. i've been contracted to create a web service to allow authenticated users to access a database. users have to enter a login and password. been reading and reading about REST vs SOAP, and i thought i'd settled on a RESTful design when i came across this statement: "Data that needs to be secure should not be sent as parameters in URIs." this seems like a major demerit against a RESTful approach. i'm aware that with https the password would be encrypted to prevent man-in-the-middle interception, but that leaves the server logs and client history as possible exposure points. is there a RESTful solution out there for this problem, or do i need to go SOAPy? any advice appreciated.

If I attempt to use JavaScript to resize it dynamically (setting a new width and height - either on the attributes of the canvas or via the style properties) I get the following error in Firefox: uncaught exception: [Exception...     This is very similar to a question I asked the other day but my page code has become significantly more complicated and I need to revisit it. I've been using the following code: $('#myLink').click(function() { $('#myImg').attr('src', 'newImg.jpg'); setTimeout(function() { $('#myImg').attr('src', 'oldImg.jpg'); }, 15000); }); To replace an image for a set period of time (15 seconds) when the link is clicked, then after 15 seconds, revert to the original image. However now, I'd like to run a snippet of javascript as well when the link is clicked (in addition to replacing the image), and only when the link is clicked (it's related to the 15 second image) and then have the js code disappear as well after the 15 seconds...however I'm not sure how to have jquery send js code into the page...Basically I just want jQuery to "echo" this code onto the page underneath the 15 second while I am there, but I don't know how jquery formats this "echo". Does this question make sense? interval = 500; imgsrc = "webcam/image.jpg"; function Refresh() { tmp = new Date(); tmp = "?" + tmp.getTime(); document.images["image1"].src = imgsrc + tmp; setTimeout("Refresh()", interval); } Refresh(); It's script for a webcam. Basically it takes a new picture every half a second and replaces it on the page. You must forgive me, I'm new to jquery, I don't know how to make this script work in a jquery context. i'm sorry, I'm explaining badly. This is what I need to happen, step by step: 1) User comes to the page and there is a static image that says "Click here to view webcam" 2) User clicks image 3) Image is replaced by live webcam image, which is refreshed every .5 seconds by the second script in my question. 4) After 15 seconds the live webcam reverts back to the static image saying "click here to view webcam" It is ONLY during that 15 second interval that I wan the webcam refresh script running, otherwise it's wasting bandwidth on an element that isn't even shown. However, it doesn't appear to let me do this. It seems like it will allow me to define players if I make it a non-static member variable however. You can rebase your branch, where instead of merging, your commit is replaced by another commit with a different parent, and your branch is moved there. while a normal merge would have looked like this: So, if you rebase, you are just losing a history state (which would be garbage collected sometime in the future). So, why would someone want to do a rebase at all? What am I missing here?

  • Having a fork match the original repo when the original master branch can't be merged in?

    The related questions that SO offer me only answer simple cases that can be solved with a pull - however, that won't work for my case. There's a repository I've forked, with just a master branch, and I've forked it, and I've worked in both my master, and a new branch of my own, rw-style. The owner of the forked repository's committed some of my changes but not others; the black dots on the top right below represent commits from both my master and rw-style branches. I'm aware using the fork queue is not a good idea, so I'm staying away from it. Using git pull does work, but it creates a conflict that I would then need to resolve, and it also results in duplicate history for my master branch, and that doesn't look particularly pretty. I don't know any other solutions right now, so I'm currently considering just creating a patch from two commits that I haven't yet pushed, deleting my fork, creating it again from the original, and then applying my patches on top of it. Is that the only solution?

  • How to remove the file which has opened handles?

    PROBLEM HISTORY: Now I use Windows Media Player SDK 9 to play AVI files in my desktop application. It works well on Windows XP but when I try to run it on Windows 7 I caught an error - I can not remove AVI file immediately after playback. The problem is that there are opened file handles exist. On Windows XP I have 2 opened file handles during the playing file and they are closed after closing of playback window but on Windows 7 I have already 4 opened handles during the playing file and 2 of them remain after the closing of playback window. They are become free only after closing the application. QUESTION: How can I solve this problem? How to remove the file which has opened handles? May be exists something like "force deletion"? Thanks.

  • jquery ajax form success callback not being called

    I'm trying to upload a file using "AJAX", process data in the file and then return some of that data to the UI so I can dynamically update the screen. I'm using the JQuery Ajax Form Plugin, jquery.form.js found at http://jquery.malsup.com/form/ for the javascript and using Django on the back end. The form is being submitted and the processing on the back end is going through without a problem, but when a response is received from the server, my Firefox browser prompts me to download/open a file of type "application/json". The file has the json content that I've been trying to send to the browser. I don't believe this is an issue with how I'm sending the json as I have a modularized json_wrapper() function that I'm using in multiple places in this same application. Here is what my form looks after Django templates are applied: <form method="POST" enctype="multipart/form-data" action="/test_suites/active/upload_results/805/"> <p> <label for="id_resultfile">Upload File:</label> <input type="file" id="id_resultfile" name="resultfile"> </p> </form> You won't see any submit buttons because I'm calling submit with a button else where and am using ajaxSubmit() from the jquery.form.js plugin. The file that I get back has the following contents: {"count": 18, "failed": 0, "completed": 18, "success": true, "trasaction_id": "SQEID0.231"} I use 'success' here to denote whether or not the server was able to run the post command adequately. If it failed the result would look something like: {"success": false, "message":"<error_message>"} Your time and help is greatly appreciated. I've spent a few days on this now and would love to move on.

    I am creating 4 asp.net pages. first three pages have 'CONTINUE' button and last page has 'SUBMIT' button. I am not allowed to use Sessions to store first three pages data. and i need to use 'BACK' button on last three pages. when i click 'BACK' button i need to maintain the previous page data entered by user. As my pages do some postbacks, i cannot use javascript.history function. My restrictions are: As the application is served from a web farm, a session object cannot be used. However, for the purpose of this excersise, consider session object as database-like persistent space where you can store your data. your code should show an easy way to switch to a different persistent space.     I see answers to similar questions and I'm sure I may just not be familiar enough with Git and Github terminology to know if they apply to my question. What I need to do is to clone an existing Github remote repository (a private repo under another person's username that I have contributor access to) and create a new private remote repo under my account. The existing repo user is going to make significant alterations to the repo, delete, and re-push, before they do that they want me to clone and create a duplicate so we can continue working from the repo under my user. I want to preserve the commit history with the repo if possible. I've cloned locally but don't can't seem to figure out how to push it to a new remote that isn't origined to the original user.

  • How do I "merge" two separate git repositories of the same website without losing commit data?

    I have two separate git repositories for the same version of a single website. domain.com-1.0 domain.com-2.0 Version 2.0 was completely redone from the ground up. There is no bridge between the two repositories. I would now like to merge the two into a single repository, but maintain the separation. I have already tagged domain.com-1.0 in it's repo and now want to clean the working tree and move domain-2.0 and all it's commit history into 1.0's repo. Is this possible or is there a better way of accomplishing this? Note: domain.com-1.0 will not be developed on anymore and is "being retired".

I was planning to write an app which uses URLConnection on a server equipped with Comet but I doubt if that would work as the client requires a JS to be invoked and URLConnection is not a browser..     After peeking at the SO source, I noticed this tag: <link rel="apple-itouch-icon" href="/apple-touch-icon.png" /> Which after a quick Google revealed an Apple "favicon" type thing for display on your homepage ("WebClip Bookmark" to be exact). The only other one that jumps to mind is the: <input type="search" results="5"/> This type="search" causes the field to "inherit" the Apple search icon, and the optional results="x" enables a history of "x" keywords to be maintained. I'm therefore wondering, what other Apple/Safari (iPhone/iPod Touch) specific HTML tags and attributes are out there that I'm not aware of! Curious minds need to know!

  • sifr menu list problems, height of object calculated wrong

    I am using Drupal and have sifr set on list items, and also a, a:hover are set via Drupal so that the links hover. I looked at the sifr3-rules.js file drupal's render module creates and it looks good. and in fact my other sifr items look fine... But the list item ones are goofing for some reason... There is extra space below the list, so if i have a list item, and inside of that, I have a unordered list with more list items, the Flash Object made in the 1st li (which will cover the rest of the sublist items too), is too bid so you see space under the children until the next parent li comes up. (so looks like extra bottom padding on that portion of the list in IE8... in FF almost similar but each subitem has space at bottom... with javascript turned off, you see the list items look fine by themselves).... Also if the parent list item is shorter than the sub list items text, the width for the flash object is set only as long as the first list item, and therefore cuts off the rest the sublist item's text. Any idea how to resolve any of these? Only unusual thing i see i am doing is setting forceSingleLine and preventWrap (which dont make a difference if taken off). ****Edit, I may just try to figure out how to get Drupal's menu-block module to output a around my hyperlinks in the list items... then i can target the div's with my rule (and the a,a:hover rules will apply), so each menu item gets its own sifr object instead of sifr3 trying to figure out how to do the lists and sublists. Very useful to me is anyone knows a way to target a hyperlink (<a> tag) and also allow a:hover rules. I know how to do it with pretend another tag that includes hyperlinks, like if i had <h2><a>sometitle</a></h2>, i could have a rule for h2, but then use the a, a:hover rules in the sifr3-rules.js file to target that. so i would need a way to target the hyperlink in the list, but also apply a :hover to it (not sure if this can be done since its not underneith for example the h2 tag).

However, I am instructed not to use binding sources for the connection or other drag and drop controls.
