  • What is the proper way to credit public code snippets?

    This question might not be a programming problem, but its been bothering me. There is a lot of free js/css scripts out there for public use. I some times use these scripts. If any, what is the formal and proper way to credit these snippets when all i have is a name of a website and a url. I understand that a simple comment might get the job done but i wanted to know whether there is a more professional way.

    Is there any way of creating a combo box (<select>) with a size of 1? All the examples I can find allow for multiple selects but with a number of options visible at any one time. If this cannot be accomplished with bog standard HTML is it possible in a JS library such as JQuery?

  • Weird jquery behaviour

    I'm trying to achieve something really basic but jquery isn't doing what I expect! I have a div with an id of "stuff". In the css I set the display attribute to "none" with the aim of changing it with jquery. This way the div is hidden unless the user has js enabled. My jquery code is simply $("#stuff").show(); unfortunately this isn't working and the div remains hidden.

Is there other way to use jQuery in Greasemonkey? -- For all the people who have the same problem, you must upload the file to greasespot then install it from there.   • Cache for large read only database recommendation

    I am building site on with Spring, Hibernate and Mysql. The mysql database contains information on coordinates and locations etc, it is never updated only queried. The database contains 15000 rows of coordinates and 48000 rows of coordinate connections. Every time a request is processed, the application needs to read all these coordinates which is taking approx 3-4 seconds. I would like to set up a cache, to allow quick access to the data. I'm researching memcached at the moment, can you please advise if this would be my best option?

    Hi. I have a site where both landing and thank you page are index.php page with different content loaded dynamically. As I'm generating the javascript and trying to validate it, it gives me an error saying that JS is not installed on the thank you page, which makes sense, because its content is not loaded yet.   • Greasemonkey - jQuery not loading

    Hi, I tried to load a copy of jQuery 1.3.2 from jquery.com (because it seems 1.4.0+ aren't treated too well by GM) using @require. Even after I uninstall and reinstall the script, GM does not copy jquery-1.3.2.js to my gm_scripts folder like it should. Tried this almost 10 times today. Also, when I click on "Manage Scripts", it shows my script as running on * even though I've added @include for http://www.catholicon.in/* I'm using the latest updates on both FF 3.6 and GM 0.8 Thanks

So I need from a scripting engine: Maximum Java interoperability (i.e. Spring framework) Script reloading and recompiling Easy DB access from scripting language Clear and simple syntax (some DSL capabilities would be nice to have), easy learning curve for non-hardcore developers Performance and stability I had some experience in the similar project with Rhino and it was pretty good. But I want to see if there is something better. Currently I'm looking into Groovy. JRuby and Jython are a bit more complex than I need for this task. Any other suggestion? What to take into consideration?

I know about project deploy, but it is no longer maintained.     We have a class, say LegacyUserSettingsService. LegacyUserSettingsService implements an interface, IUserSettingsService. You can get an instance of the IUserSettingsService by calling our ApplicationServicesFactory. The factory uses Spring.NET to construct the concrete LegacyUserSettingsService. The trouble is that new developers sometimes do their own thing and construct new instances of the LegacyUserSettingsService directly (instead of going via the factory). Is there a way to protect the constructor of the concrete class so it can only be called from the factory? A well-known pattern perhaps? Note that the concrete class resides in a different assembly (separate from the Factory's assembly, so the internal keyword is not a solution). The factory assembly references the other assembly that contains the concrete class. Any ideas?

    How can I use grails domain classes (which is in groovy) in service layer which is in Java/Spring. When using the grails MVC, everything is fine as I can use controller to access domain objects and call CRUD and other dynamic methods on them. But, what I am wondering is is there a clean way to do it from Java - say the service layer. For example, I may want to develop a reporting framework where I need to use domain objects to access the DB. I Hope the question is clear. This should be a standard problem that everybody must have faced in a reasonably sized project. I am just wondering how it is solved..maybe I am missing something here. thanks.
