  • Post 12.04 Update, stuck on splash screen

    I updated to 12.04 a couple of weeks ago and I haven't started up Ubuntu until now. On start up the computer gets stuck on the splash screen. I am a beginner in all of this linux mechanics. I've seen many people post about relatively the same problem but I have a hard time following. I am using Wubi and running it along side Windows Starter on a Toshiba netbook.   • JavaScript evolution -- weeding out the confusion [closed]

    There was JavaScript v1.3 (I guess) that we all started with. Then there was JavaScript 2.0 that Adobe implemented (ActionScript) but was abandoned later. Then came E4X. Then ES5. There is also ES harmony. I am really confused about which version is the latest and where is the standards body going. Can someone describe the whole chronology of JavaScript / ECMAScript evolution and the important differences between those versions?

  • What is the best place to go to ask questions about Aptana RadRails environment and setup problems?

    I am having some issues using RadRails and the RadRails support site is not getting me any answers (I've had questions up for days with no response which StackOverflow has conditioned me to find unacceptable!). Primarily I have questions about things like exceptions thrown when running the project or mismatches between instructions and reality. Can I ask these questions on Programmers.stackexchange? Or Stackoverflow? Or can anyone recommend an active RadRails forumn somewhere?

  • Ubuntu Server and setting up two nic cards

    I have ubuntu server on a computer with a wireless and hardwired nic card. The wireless needs to get the internet and pass it to the ubuntu server as well as pass it along to the hardwired nic card to more computers. I am having issues getting the basic set up as I believe the route table is grabbing from the wrong nic card. The router is 192.168.1.0 and the server is set to 192.168.1.11 on the wireless card through DHCP ETH0 (wired nic card) is set up to be 10.10.10.0 and the server is 10.10.10.1) I am not a linux or networking guru but basically I am trying to have internet come from a guest network 192.168.1.0 i believe to give internet to the ubuntu server then the ubuntu server will also A) have the wired nic serve DHCP addresses to other computers via a switch or router (that acts as a switch) via 10.10.10.0 addresses. And I would love if it also passed along internet capabilities as well if possible. Bu really at this point my hope is to at least get the internet working on the server and the DHCP to pass correctly. At the moment the specific issue I am having is getting ubuntu server to connect to the internet and have both nic cards up and running correctly. Any help would be appreciated!   • Extremely large spike in traffic on the 1st - 4th of every month from mobile browsers

    I've noticed that on the 1st - 4th of the recent months (since January), several sites I maintain are getting thousands of requests from mobile browsers, whereas throughout the rest of the month, the numbers are in the single or double digits. Has anybody else noticed this sort of behavior? I don't have the exact user agents logged, but my analysis software (WebTrends) reports the traffic as mostly iPhone/iPad/iPod, Android, and Blackberry.

  • Restoring MSDB

    We recently performed a disaster recovery exercise which included the restoration of the MSDB database onto our DR server.  I did a quick google to see if there were any special considerations and found the following MS article.  Considerations for Restoring the model and msdb Databases (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190749(v=sql.105).aspx).   It said both the original and replacement servers must be on the same version,  I double-checked and in my case they are both SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 (10.50.2500).. So I went ahead and stopped SQL Server agent, restored the database and restarted the agent.  Checked the jobs and they were all there, everything looked great, and was until the server was rebooted a few days later.Then the syspolicy_purge_history job started failing on the 3rd step with the error message “Unable to start execution of step 3 (reason: The PowerShell subsystem failed to load [see the SQLAGENT.OUT file for details]; The job has been suspended). The step failed.”   A bit more googling pointed me to the msdb.dbo.syssubsystems table SELECT * FROM msdb.dbo.syssubsystems WHERE start_entry_point ='PowerShellStart'   And in particular the value for the subsystem_dll. It still had the path to the SQLPOWERSHELLSS.DLL but on the old server. The DR instance has a different name to the live instance and so the paths are different.   This was quickly fixed with the following SQL Use msdb; GO sp_configure 'allow updates', 1 ; RECONFIGURE WITH OVERRIDE ; GO UPDATE msdb.dbo.syssubsystems SET subsystem_dll='C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.DR\MSSQL\binn\SQLPOWERSHELLSS.DLL' WHERE start_entry_point ='PowerShellStart'; GO sp_configure 'allow updates', 0; RECONFIGURE WITH OVERRIDE ; GO Stopped and started SQL Server agent and now the job completes.   I then wondered if anything else might be broken, SELECT subsystem_dll FROM msdb.dbo.syssubsystems Shows a further 10 wrong paths – fortunately for parts of SQL (replication, SSIS etc) we aren’t using! Lessons Learnt 1.       DR exercises are a good thing! 2.       Keep the Live and DR environments as similar as possible.

    I'm creating a Zelda-style RPG using Tiled, C#, and MonoGame. When my code parses the .tmx file, it will get a number to associate with each tile type based off of their position in the tile sheet. If I ever need to change my sprite sheet, this number will change for many of the tiles. How can I guarantee that when I parse my .tmx file, I will be able to know exactly what tile type I'm getting so that I can associate the proper data with it(transparency, animated, collision, etc.)?
