  • polymorphism, inheritance in c# - base class calling overridden method?

    This code doesn't work, but hopefully you'll get what I'm trying to achieve here. I've got a Money class, which I've taken from http://www.noticeablydifferent.com/CodeSamples/Money.aspx, and extended it a little to include currency conversion. The implementation for the actual conversion rate could be different in each project, so I decided to move the actual method for retrieving a conversion rate (GetCurrencyConversionRate) into a derived class, but the ConvertTo method contains code that would work for any implementation assuming the derived class has overriden GetCurrencyConversionRate so it made sense to me to keep it in the parent class? So what I'm trying to do is get an instance of SubMoney, and be able to call the .ConvertTo() method, which would in turn use the overriden GetCurrencyConversionRate, and return a new instance of SubMoney. The problem is, I'm not really understanding some concepts of polymorphism and inheritance yet, so not quite sure what I'm trying to do is even possible in the way I think it is, as what is currently happening is that I end up with an Exception where it has used the base GetCurrencyConversionRate method instead of the derived one.     Take a look that the following code snippet: A a = null try { a = new A(); } finally { a.foo(); // What happens at this point? } Suppose A's constructor throws a runtime exception. At the marked line, am I always guaranteed to get a NullPointerException, or foo() will get invoked on a half constructed instance?

  • Joomla execute script when timeout?

    My question may be a noob one but: I want to execute a php script when a user timeout. The only way I found to do so is to make the server execute a script every second or minute for instance, get the last activity of every user and execute a script when the last activity is older than (now() - timeout). is this the appropriate solution? Is this will slow the website significantly? Many thanks in advance!

Extra info: it seems to be working... kind of. But the webservice return nothing. During the connection, the method didReceiveResponse execute once and the didFinishLoading method executes as well. But not even once the method didReceiveData. I wonder if, even though there is no USA locations, it will still send at least something? is there a way to know which are the parameters the function is waiting for? I don't have access to the source of the webservice but i can access the WSDL.

  • Development Environment for Testing MySQL Replication

    Is there an easy way to setup an environment on one machine (or a VM) with MySQL replication? I would like to put together a proof of concept of MySQL replication with one Master write instance and two slave instances for reads. I can see doing it across 2 or 3 VMs running on my computer, but that would really bog down my system. I'd rather have everything running on the same VM. What's the best way to proof out scalability solutions like this in a local dev environment? Thanks for your help, Dave

  • Stubbing a before_filter with RSpec

    Guys, I'm having trouble understanding why I can't seem to stub this controller method :load_user, since all of my tests fail if I change the actual implementation of :load_user to not return and instance of @user.
