    I have an ASP.NET application which runs under the Classic .NET AppPool in IIS. I have a report to render from my website. The problem is SQL Server keeps telling me that it failed to create a connection to the datasource, because login failed for user IUSR. After adding that user directly to the databse I could get the report to work, but I'm concerned about security. By doing that, am I opening my specified databases to all websites hosted on IIS? Or is that account identity-specific?

  • Just in time debugger is popping up when debugging service client

    I have created as WCF service and hosted in IIS . This service is calling from another web application. When I am trying to debug the service calling event in the web application, the Just-in-Time debugger is popping up. It is running fine in the normal mode. Only in the debug mode the service is not running and JIT debugger is popping up also Why it happens? How to debug the service call in this scenario? The service is in .NET 4 and the web application is in .net 1.1 Thanks in advance Mahesh.

  • How do I update the system wallpaper in an Android 1.6 service after changing it with setWallpaper()

    So basically the code "almost" works - the problem is that the system does not appear to know that the system wallpaper have been changed or does not do anything about it. Starting and closing another app manually appears to enforce an update. In an event call the following is done: getApplicationContext().setWallpaper(pWallOne); Is there some way of telling the android system to update the graphics or to do some cheap trick that forces it to? Any help or tip would be very much appreciated!!

    Hi, On a webserver (shared hosting provider) I published a website with a ADO.Net Framework model in use with MySql Connector 6.3.1. When I request a page, a Security Exception will be happen with this error messages: "LinkDemand The type of the first permission that failed was: System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission The Zone of the assembly that failed was: MyComputer ". This exception raised when code collect the listeners of a tracksource: public class MySqlTrace { private static TraceSource source = new TraceSource("mysql"); static MySqlTrace() { foreach (TraceListener listener in source.Listeners) // <-- Exception throw here { // ... } } } The web.config doesn't have any trace data or system.diagnostics. My question is, why will a get a LinkDemand security exception during collecting the source listeners. What can maybe be wrong in here?

  • How can I copy an XmlNode from one XmlDocument to another?

    I'm building a tool that authors/edits XML files, and I want to be able to populate it with template fragments defined in another XML file. For example, the tool has an "Add FooBarBaz Element" button that adds a element to the new document being created, and I want to add FooBarBaz by copying it from a template. Or let's say this is my template file: <Templates> <FooBarBaz Attribute="Value"> <ChildElement/> </FooBarBaz> </Templates> I can then grab a template fragment with .GetElementsByTagName("FooBarBaz"), and I'd like to be able to inject it into the new document with something like .AppendChild(templateNode). But the problem is that an XmlNode cannot be copied from one XmlDocument to another, even if you use .Clone() or .CloneNode(), because AppendChild() throws an exception saying that the template element belongs to another context. Is there an easy way to copy a System.Xml.XmlNode between System.Xml.XmlDocuments?

    Hi i need to pass my Request.Form as a parameter, but first i have to add some key/value pairs to it. I get the exception that the Collection is readonly. I've tried: System.Collections.Specialized.NameValueCollection myform = Request.Form; and i get the same error. and i've tried: foreach(KeyValuePair<string, string> pair in Request.Form) { Response.Write(Convert.ToString(pair.Key) + " - " + Convert.ToString(pair.Value) + "<br />"); } to test if i can pass it one by one to another dictionary, but i get: System.InvalidCastException: Specified cast is not valid. some help, anyone?     I'm storing a lot of sorted ~10 row 2 column/key value pairs in ASP.NET cache-- they're the data for dropdownlists. Right now they are all DataTables, which isn't very space efficient (the rule of thumb is 10x increase in size when data is strored in a dataset). Old Code DataTable table = dataAccess.GetDataTable(); dropDownList.DataSource = table; Hoped for new Code Unknown data = dataAccess.GetSomethingMoreSpaceEfficient(); dropDownList.DataSource = data; What pre-existing datastructures are similar enough to DataTable that would minimize code breakage and reduce the serialized size when stored in ASP.NET cache?

  • Know if a Visual Studio Website project is recompiling itself in the background?

    A number of team members update a central ASP.NET dev site (Website project, not a Web application type). Some kinds of changes cause a recompile/rebuild in it. The large website takes a while to recompile and we've noticed it will still seemingly serve out dynamic pages before everything is internally updated. During the site's "gestation" period, our mileage varies while hitting it. Sometimes we get a correct page, sometimes an compilation error page that will eventually be served up without a compilation error, and at other times an unexpected hybrid. Is it possible to query an ASP.NET website application to see if it's currently compiling or rebuilding itself? If so I would write a status page that the team could reference when they're getting weird behaviour, so they would know to wait. Update: Our team often edit files manually on the dev server. For production we'd make pre-compiled pushes. The dev environment is a little more malleable and ever-changing so I'm looking for a solution to reducing the "confusion" there.

  • Paging Recordsets from SQL Serverside

    I've been banging my head off this one for a while. I want to call 1k records from a SQL database and page them per 100. In classic ASP (where I'm moving from) this was dead easy to do with ADODB but with VB using ADO.net I can't find a single way that doesn't involve stored procs (which I want to avoid for now). It seems really stupid to call all 1k and sort it programmatically. Edit: It's SQL Server 2005 / .net 4.0 / Visual Studio 2010. Edit 2: Just to reiterate, I have Googled extensively and don't want to use stored procedures. There are many ways to get paged data but everything I see involves paging the data in the program rather than from the server.

    I know this question is related to many others, but please bear with me. I am trying an experiment to store all information in database tables instead of the ASP.NET session. In ASP.NET 4 one can create a custom provider for session. So, again should I implement a Custom Session-State Provider or should I just disable session (in Web.config)? Thanks! From the comments my question can be misunderstood. Hopefully this tidbit will help clarify: I don't want to store the session in the database. I want to store information in the database that you would typically store in the session. One reason why: I don't want to carry around a session on every page, especially if that page doesn't care about 90 percent of the information in the session

  • How to Return A File and a strongly Typed data at the same time?

    Hi I am using asp.net mvc 1.0 and I want to return a XML file but I also want to return a strongly typed data back so I can update some fields. Like the XML file will contain users who failed to be inserted into the database. So I want that to appear as a dialog save box what asp.net mvc return file() would do. However I also want to return on the page like values like how many users failed to be added, how many users where added, etc. So I want to use scafolding with the class file I want to pass it along. If this was a view I could pass it along as an object model but I don't see a parameter for that in File(). I also don't want to save the xml file onto the harddrive I want to do it through memory. So have a link that would display on the page to download the file and show the the data I want would not be desired.

    I am developing a Facebook Card Game for my thesis and i am wondering which architecture fits best? I am going to develop the game using Silverlight + ASP.NET. On the one side the game should contain player vs. player card games. On the other there will be also a lot of contant similar to Mafia Wars(or any other game like that) where you just interact with the server (incl. database) I read a lot about ASP.NET MVC, Silverlight MVVM and that stuff. But what fits best for a game like that? Also i am not sure if i should go with Silverlight 4 already? I don't want to start the wrong way. I really appreciate your help.

  • Switching to FormViewMode.Edit is very slow

    When i switch an ASP.Net Formview from readonly mode to edit mode it takes more than 6 seconds(from edit to readonly takes a split second). I have no idea whats the reason for it. The EditItemTemplate contains a lot of controls(table,textboxes,dropdownlists) but in fact not more than the ItemTemplate has. Yet i have even commented out the complete FormView.DataBound where the controls are data bounded but without significant change. My ASP.Net Web Apllication is using Ajax and the Formview is completely nested in an UpdatePanel. Any suggestions or assumptions for this behaviour?

    Hello everyone, I am using SQL Server 2008 Enterprise with VSTS 2008, and I am developing a simple web application using ASP.Net and Forms Authentication. When I am using the configuration tool/menu of VSTS of my ASP.Net project (I want to use this tool to manually add some Forms authentication users), I met with the following error (SqlException), Trying to attach file D:\Projects\MyTest\App_Data\aspnetdb.mdf to automatically named database failed. It may be caused by existing the same name database, or may be caused by specified file can not be opened or caused by the specified file exists in UNC share. In my computer, there is no aspnetdb.mdf under dir D:\Projects\MyTest\App_Data, and I have used aspnet_regsql to generate database successfully before I run the configuration tool.     Is there a way to guarantee that your system tray icon is removed? To add the system tray icon you do: Shell_NotifyIcon(NIM_ADD, &m_tnd); To remove the system tray icon you do: Shell_NotifyIcon(NIM_DELETE, &m_tnd); What I want to know: what if you application crashes? The icon stays in your system tray until you mouse over. Is there a way to guarantee that the icon will be removed, even when the application crashes? I would prefer not to use structured exception handling for various reasons. Another case that I want to handle is when the process is killed, but doesn't necessarily crash.
