  • Windows Server 2008 and port 80

    Hi experts, I'm having an issue with my Windows Server 2008. I can successfuly connect to it with FTP(port 21), remote desktop(whatever the port number is), https but not with simple http or port 80, from the outside of my LAN. Is there some settings I don't know about regarding this special port on the firewall or on IIS7? For your information, I can connect to port 80 as long as I'm on the same LAN, but as soon as the request come from the outside, I get nothing... Please help Thank you

  • Luns not taken by the windows server admin

    I have a scenario based question...Something , I haven't faced till now ,but i would be interested to know the answer. If i have assigned a luns (say, of 50 GB) and put them in storage group.However, the windows server team did not grab that lun but sent an acknowledgment saying the Luns are alingned. I would like to know what will happen to the Luns that belong to the SG ..in my opinion they will remain in the SG as unassigned Luns ..or is there a possibility that the lUns will move back to the storage.

Is there going to be any problem "upgrading" the Evaluation Enterprise version to a licensed STANDARD version (and how much additional stuff is going to be left inactive on my disk and, more importantly, in my registry, etc. if I do so)? {Quote End} Any advice is appreciated.

    Hey I have to make a file system with an encrypted partition with on ubuntu server. something like Unencrypted: / - 10 GB /home - 10GB /var - 5GB -------------- Encrypted: /opt - 50GB This I can figure out in the setup, just partition as normal, setup /tmp as a encrypted volume with dm-crypt. However im not sure how to mirror this entire drive, so that if either failed i could still boot. and how will that affect the encrypted partition. Any help would be appreciated.

    I already use Google Analytics on my page, but I'd like to get additional info from log files. I've looked at various packages during last days, but nothing impressed me so far. Some requirements: must work on log file level (I use apache combined logs, but can configure apache to produce other types of logs) can generate static reports (windows/linux) or use GUI (windows only) should be easy to add custom user agents, and rerun analysis if it can recognize installation of eclipse plugins from log, that would be big plus understands google serp position referer should not require two days to setup (awstats, I am looking at you) should be still under active developement (i.e. analog isn't good answer) preferrably free, or at not very expensive :-) Any good analyzers programs out there?

    I´m building a url shortener web application and I would like to know the best architecture to do it in order to provide a fast and reliable service. I would like to have two separate servicies in different machines. The first machine will have the application itself with a apache, nginx, whatever.. The second one will contain the database. The third one will be the one that will be responsible to handle the short url petitions. For the third machine I just need to accept one kind of http petition (GET www.domain.com/shorturl), but it have to do it really fast and it should be stable enough. Which server do you recommend me?     Is it possible to set up the standard backup system in SBS 2011 (or Server 2008 R2) to use an internal drive as a destination as well as external drives? Before you say yes, from my tests and from what I've read on the web, backups with internal drives included as a destination always seems to prefer the internal drive over connected external ones. (Regardless of what drive might be marked as 'active'). So no data ever gets written to a plugged in external drive. In my opinion external drives should always have priority over internal drives or including them is pointless.

    We have a web application project wich will be created using ASP.NET 4.0, Entity Framework, and SQL Sever 2008 R2. To meet the needs, suppose a normal page of this application that has a query which it takes 10 miliseconds to response on a Core2 Quad @ 2.8GHz proccessor with 2x2GB of DDR3 Ram (EntityFramework overheads are considered). And we will have about 2000 concurrent user at peek times. So, what is the best recommended specifications (CPU/RAM/RAID/...) for the server which will be host this application? -- Or -- How can I calculate that?

  • Sql Server huge tables with no rows

    I have a Sql Server database that has a few tables with zero row count but take up a combined 10 GB of space. I can see this by doing right-click/properties on the tables in question (data space is huge, between 1 and 6 GB, and row count is zero on these tables). I have no clue what could be causing this as I would assume zero rows would mean nearly zero space taken. Any ideas?

    Now that Windows Server 2012 comes with de-duplication features for NTFS volumes I am having a hard time finding technical details about it. I can deduce from the TechNet documentation that the de-duplication action itself is an asynchronous process - not unlike how the SIS Groveler used to work - but there is virtually no detail about the implementation (algorithms used, resources needed, even the info on performance considerations is nothing but a bunch rule-of-thumb-style recommendations). Insights and pointers are greatly appreciated, a comparison to Solaris' ZFS de-duplication efficiency for a set of scenarios would be wonderful.

  • Trying to reinstalling .net framework 4 on windows server 2003 SP2

    I had a problem with an application that was using .net framework 4. So I tried to fix the installation but it didn't solved. So I proceed to uninstall the framework and install it again. But then the problems started... the setup just wouldn't finish to download the framework. So i tried the full installer, and then it got stuck (freezes) at "installing client profile"... The server works well but the installation progress bar just stays at the same place (but the "wheel" keeps turning, like it was doing something, but stays like this for hours...) I tried the .net clean unistall software but the problem remains. I'm all out of ideas... I've searched the web but couldn't solve the problem with any solution I found... Any ideas on how to force the installation?
