• curl object moved here error, bash

  I'm trying to download an html file with curl in bash. When I download it manually, it works fine. However, when i try and run my script through crontab, the output html file is very small and just says "Object moved to here." with a broken link. Does this have something to do with the sparse environment the crontab commands run it? I found this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1279340/php-ssl-curl-object-moved-error but i'm using bash, not php. What are the equivalent command line options or variables to set to fix this problem in bash? (I want to do this with curl, not wget)

• install make command without already having make (mac os 10.5)

  I'm trying to write a script that uses the make command, but Mac os 10.5 doesn't come with make installed by default, and when you download the make source code from gnu's website, you have to use make itself to compile and install it. which is hard if you don't have it in the first place. How can I install make? (I know you can get make by installing Xcode and the developer tools that come with mac os, but I don't want people to have to go find their mac os install dvds to be able to use the script.) It doesn't even have to be make, i'm just looking for a utility that you can easily download in a script (using ftp or curl) and use to compile source code.

The only hints I can manage are by examining the COM objects inside the existing DLLs. It doesn't help much, but I'm a novice at COM development. • Why did Dylan lose to Objective-C

  I have played/worked with many different programming languages and Dylan is still one of my favorites. My question is why did Dylan fail when Objective-C, Ruby and even Scheme have had more success? Was Dylans performance that much worse than Objective-C that Apple went with it or was purely for social/political reasons. • Select all links from a Html table using XPath (and HtmlAgilityPack)

  What I am trying to achieve is to extract all links with a href attribute that starts with http://, https:// or /. These links lie within a table (tbody tr td etc) with a certain class. I thought I could specify just the the a element without the whole path to it but it does not seem to work. I get a NullReferenceException at the line that selects the links: var table = doc.DocumentNode.SelectSingleNode("//table[@class='containerTable']"); if (table != null) { foreach (HtmlNode item in table.SelectNodes("a[starts-with(@href, 'https://')]")) { //not working I don't know about any recommendations or best practices when it comes to XPath. • Problem passing json into jquery graph(flot)

  I trying to retrieve some json to pass into a flot graph. I know that json is right because I hard coded it to check, but I'm pretty sure that I'm not passing right because It's not showing up. • Trouble accessing MSWord ActiveDocument

  When I try to programmatically access a word object model, I get an error no document is active. This appears to be because I am loading the document as not visible using Word automation, and I have to keep it invisible. How would I code the open macro so that it does nothing in this case? • Maintaining ISAPI Rewrite Path with the ASP.NET tilde (~)

  My team is upgrading from ASP.NET 3.5 to ASP.NET 4.0. We are currently using Helicon ISAPI Rewrite to map http://localhost/<account-name>/default.aspx to http://localhost/<virtual-directory>/default.aspx?AccountName=<account-name> where <account-name> is a query string variable and <virtual-directory> is a virtual directory (naturally). Before the upgrade the tilde (~) resolved to http://localhost/<account-name>/... (which I want it to do) and after the upgrade the tilde resolves to http://localhost/<virtual-directory>/... which results in an error because the <account-name> query string is required. I'd like to avoid going down the road of replacing everything with relative paths because there are several features in our system that use the entire URL instead of just the relative path. For what it's worth I'm using IIS7 in Windows 7, Visual Studio 2010 with ASP.NET 4.0 and the 64 bit Helicon ISAPI Rewrite. If I switch back to the ASP.NET 3.5 version then it still works fine (leading me to believe nothing changed in IIS unless it's within the 4.0 app pool - when I switch back and forth between 3.5 and 4.0 I have to change the app pool in IIS). • opengl paint program based on Apple's 'glPaint' on a white background - how to blend?

  Trying to write a simple paint program for iPhone, and I'm using Apple's glPaint sample as a guide. The only problem is, painting doesn't work on a white background, since white + colour = white. I've tried different blending functions, but haven't been able to hit on the right combination of settings and/or brushes to make this work. I've seen similar posts about this problem but no answers. Does anyone know how this might work?

• Starting an Erlang slave node in escript fails when using custom Erlang in Ubuntu 10.4

  I have the following escript: #!/usr/bin/env escript %%! -name [email protected] main(_) -> NodeName = test, Host = '127.0.0.1', Args = "", {ok, _Node} = slave:start_link(Host, NodeName, Args), io:format("Node started successfully!"). When running it on Ubuntu 10.04 I get this: $ ./start_slave Node started successfully! $ I want to install my own Erlang (latest version, debug compiled files for dialyzer etc) since the stock install of Erlang on Ubuntu lacks some features. I put my Erlang binaries inside ~/Applications/bin. Starting Erlang normally works, and starting slave nodes inside an Erlang shell works as well. However, now my escript doesn't work. After about 60 seconds it returns an error: $ ./start_slave escript: exception error: no match of right hand side value {error,timeout} Even if I change the first line to the escript to use my erlang version, it still does not work: #!/home/user/Applications/bin/escript The slave node is started with a call to erlang:open_port/2 which seems to be using sh which in turn does not read my .bashrc file that sets my custom PATH environment variable. The timeout seems to occur when slave:start_link/3 waits for the slave node to respond, which it never does. How can I roll my own installation of Erlang and start slave nodes inside escripts on Ubuntu 10.4?

• need major webcam help for project!!

  hey guys i have a porject where i have to be able to view my webcam on my mobile phone, which happens to be a blackberry bold 9700 but can also get a hold of an i pod touch so either phone is ok to use. the problem that i have is that everytime i do a search for help on this i end up with a program which enevitably asks for money and this is not allowd in the project, ive been trying to stream using vlc player and viewing it on the opera mini for blackberry but no such luck so far, any help would be great thanks a lot

  I have a bash script that uses growlnotify to send notifications. However, growlnotify doesn't work if Growl isn't already running, and it won't auto start Growl if it needs it, either. So I want to be able to check if Growl is running, and then start it if it isn't. I'm thinking of doing something like: g=$(ps -e | grep Growl | grep -v grep) if [ -z "$g" ] # Growl isn't running then # (start Growl) fi How would I start Growl via the command line?

• Reference DLLs not loading in Visual Studio 2010

  I'm working on a C# 4.0 project in VS2010 and needed to use some older DLLs containing controls that were created in C# 3.5 on VS2008. When I first add the DLLs to the references, I was able to see the namespace via intellisense and create an instance of one of the controls, but when I go to build, it gives me the following error: The type or namespace name 'BCA' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) And I do have a using directive for that namespace already, which is now underlined in red, showing that VS cannot find it. And now, intellisense won't pick up that namespace at all. I even tried added the controls to the toolbox (which worked) but then when I drag them to the GUI, it says that it cannot locate the DLL reference, even though it obviously knows where it is. I even tried changing the target framework to 3.5, but still with the same results. Any thoughts as to why this could be happening?

• Animating custom-drawn UITableViewCell when entering edit mode

  Background First of all, much gratitude to atebits for their very informative blog post Fast Scrolling in Tweetie with UITableView. The post explains in detail how the developers were able to squeeze as much scrolling performance as possible out of the UITableViews in Tweetie. Goals Beginning with the source code linked from the blog post (original) (my github repo): Allow a UITableView using these custom cells to switch to edit mode, exposing the UI for deleting an item from the table. (github commit) Move the cell's text aside as the deletion control slides in from the left. This is complete, although the text jumps back and forth without animation. (github commit) Apply animation to the text movement in goal 2 above for a smooth user experience. This is the step where I became stuck. The Question What is the best way to introduce this animation to complete goal 3? It would be nice if this could be done in a manner that keeps the logic from my last commit because I would love the option to move the conflicting part of the view only, while any non-conflicting portions (such as right-justified text) stay in the same place or move a different number of pixels. If the above is not possible then undoing my last commit and replacing it with an option that slides the entire view to the right would be a workable solution also. I appreciate any help anyone can provide, from quick pointers and ideas all the way to code snippets or github commits. Of course you are welcome to fork my repo if you would like. I will be staying involved with this question to make sure any successful resolution is committed to github and fully documented here. Thanks very much for your time! Updated thoughts I have been thinking about this a lot since my first post and realized that moving some text items relative to others in the view could undo some of the original performance goals solved in the original blog post. So at this point I am thinking a solution where the entire single subview is animated to its new postion may be the best one. Second, if it is done in this way there may be an instance where the subview has a custom color or gradient background. Hopefully this can be done in a way that in its normal position the background extends unseen off to the left enough so that when the view is slid to the right the custom background is still visible across the entire cell.

• Vector is pointing to uninitialized bytes when used in recvfrom call

  In a function that I am writing I am trying to return a pointer to a vector of unsigned chars. The relevant code is below. std::vector<unsigned char> *ret = new std::vector<unsigned char>(buffSize,'0'); int n = recvfrom(fd_, &((*ret)[0]) ,buffSize, &recvAddress, &sockSize); //This should work too... recvfrom(fd_, ret ,buffSize, &recvAddress, &sockSize); // display chars somehow just for testing for(std::vector<unsigned char>::iterator it=ret->begin(); it<it->end();i++) { std::cout<<*it; } std::cout<<std::endl; ... return ret; When I run this through valgrind I get errors talking about how the buffer in recvfrom is pointing to uninitialized bytes. I've narrowed this down to the vector since I swapped it out for an unsigned char array and everything works fine. Any suggestions?

  i am planning a simple, dual-language website and i'd like to use a .net based cms but i can't find anything suitable. i have experience with dotnetnuke and sharepoint but neither fit the bill - dotnetnuke does not do dynamic site elements multi-lingually & sharepoint is a monster PITA no matter what angle you look at it :). i am on the verge of choosing Joomla! & Joom!Fish. they fit the bill nicely, with one exception: i would like to create some cms plug-ins and i would much prefer to write them in .net. any suggestions?

• Foreign key reference to a two-column primary key

  One of my tables has a two-column primary key: CREATE TABLE tournament ( state CHAR(2) NOT NULL, year INT NOT NULL, etc..., PRIMARY KEY(state, year) ); I want a reference to the tournament table from another table, but I want this reference to be nullable. Here's how I might do it, imagining that a winner doesn't necessarily have a tournament: CREATE TABLE winner ( name VARCHAR NOT NULL, state CHAR(2) NULL, year INT NULL ); If state is null but year is not, or vice-versa, the table would be inconsistent. I believe the following FOREIGN KEY constraint fixes it: ALTER TABLE winner ADD CONSTRAINT FOREIGN KEY fk (name, state) REFERENCES tournament (name, state); Is this the proper way of enforcing consistency? Is this schema properly normalized?

• iPhone Foundation - performance implications of mutable and xxxWithCapacity:0

  All of the collection classes have two versions - mutable and immutable, such as NSArray and NSMutableArray. Is the distinction merely to promote careful programming by providing a const collection or is there some performance hit when using a mutable object as opposed to immutable? Similarly each of the collection classes has a method xxxxWithCapacity, like [NSMutableArray arrayWithCapacity:0]. I often use zero as the argument because it seems a better choice than guessing wrongly how many objects might be added. Is there some performance advantage to creating a collection with capacity for enough objects in advance? If not why isn't the function something like + (id)emptyArray?

• Settings variable values in a Moq Callback() call

  I think I may be a bit confused on the syntax of the Moq Callback methods. When I try to do something like this: IFilter filter = new Filter(); List<IFoo> objects = new List<IFoo> { new Foo(), new Foo() }; IQueryable myFilteredFoos = null; mockObject.Setup(m => m.GetByFilter(It.IsAny<IFilter>())).Callback( (IFilter filter) => myFilteredFoos = filter.FilterCollection(objects)).Returns(myFilteredFoos.Cast<IFooBar>()); This throws a exception because myFilteredFoos is null during the Cast<IFooBar>() call. Is this not working as I expect? I would think FilterCollection would be called and then myFilteredFoos would be non-null and allow for the cast. FilterCollection is not capable of returning a null which draws me to the conclusion it is not being called. Also, when I declare myFilteredFoos like this: Queryable myFilteredFoos; The Return call complains that myFilteredFoos may be used before it is initialized.

  I'm trying to build an expression tree (still) but getting further! I need to create a BinaryExpression to perform an 'In' comparison between a Member and a collection of items. Hence, the expression should return true if the member is contained within the items. This obviously does not exist: Expression.MakeBinary(ExpressionType.In, memberExpression, constantExpression); constantExpression is a ConstantExpression of type IEnumerable while memberExpression is a MemberExpression of type T. How would I create such an expression?
