• Ubuntu 12.04 GTK Problem

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 and compiled and installed GTK 3.4 to go through some GTK developer tutorials. Installing this version of GTK has caused problems with Unity. All system dialogs and top bar now have a different (older) look, and when I try to launch Nautilus I get the following message: Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module" Initializing nautilus-open-terminal extension Initializing nautilus-dropbox 1.4.0 Initializing nautilus-gdu extension nautilus: symbol lookup error: nautilus: undefined symbol: ubuntu_menu_proxy_get I have run make uninstall on the newer version of GTK and reinstalled just about every package I can think of, but I am still having the same problem. How can I repair the default Ubuntu GTK libraries? EDIT Also, I noticed that my desktop icons are gone (launcher works), and I can't interact with the desktop. I can't drag any shortcuts to it, etc.

  I am using Ubuntu 12.04. I use my LG cellphone titled GU220 using Aircel connection .. The phone gets connected as an USB device well enough bt the network always fails to connect whenever I try to connect through mobile broadband.. I also have Windows 7 which does not fails to connect the network through PC Suite. tried it several times even after restarting both phone and Ubuntu bt in vain. Also fr 1st two days things worked well and the network was well connected, the problem started just after those two days-in from the next login..

• Traffic fall after a server problem

  I have a website from which I analyse the traffic with Google analytics. Day after day the traffic (mainly from Google SE) incresed until I get a problem with my server. For one day the server has been offline and after that I have no longer had as much users as I had before. Now it's like the site is no more referenced on Google index (but when I type "site:mysite.com", I still have all the results). Do you know if this is a normal behaviour and if the traffic will come back as before (the server has had problems two days ago) ?

  Is anyone at Microsoft listening to the SPAM problem here on Weblogs.asp.net? My “ Can anyone do anything about the spam here on weblogs.asp.net? ” post from October got over 12 spam comments posted to it in the past 24 hours. I have comments all moderated, but that just means I have a crapload of work to do each time people comment. • SU, SUDO and Upgrade problem

  i have a big problem with my Ubuntu PC. When i try sometigng need sudo or su, nothing is working and the OS Upgrade too, when i write the root password to the su command i have a "autentication error", same in the upgrades and when i try the sudo command to install something i don't have error message and nothing happen. I was tring to make samba work when all goes wrong. Some help!? Thanks! Edit SSH connection refused and connection closed if i try to login from secondary PC I can't access recovery mode... With the autologin i can access the system, if i logout and try to login again return the autentication error

• DSL modem problem in 11.10

  Earlier I used Windows 7 and the modem used to work absolutely fine. Even when it got disconnected it used to reconnect automatically without any trouble. But then I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on dual-boot and set up the modem connection properly but the modem now disconnects much more frequently (earlier it disconnected once in 5 hours or so and after Ubuntu in 5 minutes!). Also once disconnected, it does not reconnect even when I have checked the "Connect Automatically" button. I have to restart the system to reconnect it. I the clean installed Windows and modem works perfectly fine again. What is the reason for this and how can I solve this? I really want to use Ubuntu but due to this problem I can't.

  I'm using pydoc in python 2.7.3 to generate documentation for a file called PreProcessingAPI.py which contains a class called PreProcessingAPI In PreProcessingAPI.py, I have the following import in the beginning of the file: from __future__ import division from re import * from nltk.stem import porter The problem is, in the documentation generated by pydoc, nltk.stem.porter is shown as a Module. There is also a DATA heading with all sorts of variables I do not know about. Is there a way to avoid these variables and avoid showing nltk.stem.porter in the modules? I'm running the following command to generate documentation python pydoc.py -w PreProcessingAPI.py I've put the file pydoc.py in the directory containing my file. • Standby Problem, PC can not enter Standby mode

  I have a problem with the Standby function: My Computer does not enter the Standby mode with Ubuntu 14.04LTS. If I remeber me right it, works with Ubuntu 13.10 but this Version was not long installed on this PC. Now when i press Standby in the menu or on my Keyboard the Display turns black for a few seconds, then some messages appear for a very short moment on the screen. After that, the the log-in screen appear. Two times I was able to enter Standby but the other times it fails. Tecnical Data about my PC: Ubuntu 14.04 with all Updates main storage: 3,8GiBprocessor: Intel® Core™ i3-2330M CPU @ 2.20GHz × 4 graphic: Intel® Sandybridge Mobile graphic board: NVIDA GEFORCE GT 555M CUDA 1GB Dual Boot System with win7 x64Bit Medion P6812 Laptop Here is the message output: Usally I got only a half of the screen filled with messages like that. When I filmed it it was much more. I dont know, maybe this is a Bug.

• FTP file access problem

  I recently got a malware on my website. I have made the backup of the website on my computer and trying to wipe off my FTP. I am trying to delete the root folder but getting this error message on all of the malicious files, Response: 550 Could not delete index.php: Permission denied I am the sole administrator of the ftp so permission should not have been an issue. My host provider seems not to suffer from this problem as his websites are running well without any malware. I have also tried to change the root to 777 to see if the file permission change could help me delete the files but still I am getting the same error. Please help out. Thanks

• Live boot from hard disk problem

  I've installed Ubuntu Desktop 13.04 32bit. Next I configured /etc/grub.d/40_custom to boot live system from ubuntu.iso (also Desktop 13.04 32 bit) I used configuration: menuentry "Ubuntu 13.04 Desktop" { loopback loop /boot/ubuntu.iso linux (loop)/casper/vmlinuz.efi boot=casper iso-scan/filename=/boot/ubuntu.iso noeject noprompt splash -- initrd (loop)/casper/initrd.lz } and it works OK. Later I made some changes on my installed ubuntu. I made some configuration, installed additional packages and so on. After that I made backup using remastersys tool. Remastersys gave me new ISO file. So I wanted to use it. And here was first problem. Remastersys creates only initrd.gz file. So I changed the grub configuration form: initrd (loop)/casper/initrd.lz to: initrd (loop)/casper/initrd.gz But after that, when I reboot my system I get error: /init: line 3: can't open /dev/sr0: No medium found Any ideas how to fix it? • Problem with MVC3 application

  I am working on MVC3 application. I use entity framework, NInject, Fluent Validation and some more Nuget packages. I am using Tortoise SVN for versioning. Recently I changed the structure of my SVN repository, so my working copy of MVC3 app was moved to some different folder in the repository. Now when I checked out the copy from SVN, all the references that I had added through Nuget were lost(EF, NInject and rest nuget packages were showing yellow missing icon in references). This had happened to me prior to this also, when I tried to check out the app from svn to some other folder. I had to manually add all the references again through Nuget again. Am I doing anything wrong? Please guide. I hope I could explain my problem properly.

• Duplicate Content Problem due to plugin

  Actually i am running website on wordpress where i have installed Transposh plugin on my site 'example'. Unfortunately, despite having English as the default language and therefore available at example.com/xxx, Google is indexing example.com/en/xxx so i m getting problem with duplicate content now i want to remove this plugin and links from google so that my content will be refine without getting duplicate content pages. Do you have any solution to do this safely. I think myself to remove this plugin from website, though it will create 404 errors from google links but i can add redirect code in htaccess till google would remove that "example.com/en/xxx " not found links. If you know any other healthy way to handle this please help me!

• Problem mounting USB Mobile Broadband dongle in Ubuntu 13.04

  I have been using Ubuntu 13.04 since last two months and I have problem mounting my USB dongle. I have Lenovo G-580 series laptop. It has 3 USB ports which are 3.0. When I attach dongle to one of the three USB ports the device gets mounted immediately but in the other two ports I have to reboot the OS while the dongle is attached to the laptop in order to mount it and connect to the internet. My dongle is of ZTE. I don't get what is going wrong.

Just one month after I bought the notebook, the battery got a problem and it does not charge anymore. Now Lenovo won't give me any support because I am using Ubuntu. Lenovo says they will give support only for Windows users because their tools runs on Windows. They refused to change my battery before running the Windows based test. What should I do?

There is lots of pressure from above to get things working agian. Specifics: PHP/MVC application that is API-driven in Zend. Deployed to a few servers. My question: While investigating, lets say I have a hunch that something is wrong. But, I don't know for sure. And, of course, I can't test things in production. If I have a suggested fix based on that hunch, would it be wise to try and apply it and see if it works, before understanding what the problem is?

It is a fresh install of ubuntu 12.10 and it was working on the beginning. But after some time setting up ubuntu I noticed the style on the elements has gone - I don't know when. I installed compiz-settings - maybe that caused - but when I un-install nothing changes. Also checking/unchecking "window decoration" in compiz doesn't help. Please help me. I am out of options :/

  Usually is is said that if you are not having any problems do not update your bios. When I'm running windows everything is fine. But for Linux I think the DSDT is broken. According to this this updating your bios should be preferred before messing with DSDT. This is the link for a bios update for my laptop but details section says that it fixes some 'start-up' problem. So, should I use this update or not? thanks.

  I'm trying to install themes with gnome tweak, and I need to install gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme because otherwise I cannot see the shell extensions tab. However, I cannot install shell extensions. I have tried to install by adding the PPA with the following: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/gnome3 Then, sudo apt-get update Finally, when I try to install: sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme It gives an error: The following packages have unmet dependencies: gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme : Depends: gnome-shell-extensions-common but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. I am convinced that there is a problem with the package. So I went on and tried to install the extensions from the website: https://extensions.gnome.org/ But even though I use Firefox (15.0), I cannot see the "switch" that is being mentioned to install the extension. Maybe the version of Firefox is too new. Is there any workaround that you know of? (By the way, I use Ubuntu 12.04, freshly downloaded and installed.)

  For learning and understanding purpose, I currently want to try to make a small relational DBMS with simple features like (for now) only sequential reading/writing and CREATE TABLE, INSERT, SELECT, UPDATE and DELETE management. I am currently on the "think" part of the project and I am stuck on the way to store the read data in memory. First I was thinking of putting them properly on a structure, but the problem is that tables are all different, know the type of each column is not an issue, but I am not sure C provide a way to make fully dynamic structure. My second and current idea is to make a simple char array of the required length and just get the data by order with cast. But I am not sure if it is the good way to do that part, so I wanted to ask for your opinion and advices about that. • Steps to diagnose SNU5600 disconnection problem

  I have a Philips SNU5600 WiFi dongle plugged into two machines (ie I have two SNU5600 dongles, one in each machine). One machine is running 10.10 and the other is running Linux Mint. The dongles work absolutely fine, except if I do a lot of file transfers to a NAS attached to the wireless router. After a while the connection to the router will go. To get the connection back I either need to run sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart or I need to unplug and plug in again the dongle. Otherwise the dongle works fine (web browsing, streaming, etc). Output of lsusb: Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0471:1236 Philips (or NXP) SNU5600 802.11bg Output of lsusb -v at http://pastebin.com/dXYKkF01 What steps should I take next to resolve this? • Problem with homepage's SEO when using subfolders in a multi language website

  After watching a hundreds of threads about multilanguage website I haven't found an answer to my specific problem, so I think its not a common issue and I must have done something terribly wrong ;-) We have a brand.com website in DE main language and the following subfolders: /de/ = canonical of / + redirect to / /it/ /en/ When I crawl google.com for EN keywords or google.it for IT keywords then I get as results the homepage in German language (both title and description) as the top result with no trace of the /it/ or the /en/ homepage. Is this because /it/ and /en/ both needs a separate link building strategy? I've already configured Google webmaster tool into the following way: brand.com, no language preference brand.com/de/, de language brand.com/it/, it language brand.com/en/, en language Perhaps having "/" as DE main page is it wrong and I should use a different approach? i.e. like having "/" to be a 301 to /de/ instead ?   I have a small problem with converting a bitmap to a Texture2D. The resulted image of the conversion has the red channel switched with the blue channel :/ I don't know why, because the pixel formats are the same.
