I am trying to learn Asp.net MVC framework. I was looking at the video tutorial at the link below
http://www.asp.net/learn/mvc-videos/video-395.aspx
In this video the very first step is to add a new database to the example application.
I have visual studio installed on my development machine but the SqlServer Express is running on a different machine, so when I try and add a new database following the same steps as the video I get the following error
"Connections to SQL Server files(*.mdf) require SQL express 2005 to funciton properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the url"
I am assuming this is because Visual studio is looking for an instance of SQL express on my local machine and since it doesnt exist on the local machine,it errors out.
So how do i tell visual studio, to connect to a different machine and create the database there?
I am using Visual studio 2008 with .net 3.5 Sp1

Log Problem must be changed so that it elevates privileges for a user executing the Problem.
its done by creating a manifest that indicates that Problem needs Administrator privileges.
I use WebClient from System.Net Namespace of Visual Studio 2008 to download the HTML content.
It done well with normal website but with some 4rum that require authorization such as warez-bb.org, it always return the HTML of the login page.
I wonder if there is a way to send the username and password to the WebClient?

Hello everyone,
I am using SQL Server 2008 Enterprise. I met with issue which says line 9 of stored procedure foo is meeting with dead lock issue. My question is how to find exactly the 9th line of the stored procedure?
My confusion is because of coding format issue, how to locate 9th line correctly.
thanks in advance,
George

We use SQL server 2008 as our RDBMS and we have a database that has a different user rather than dbo as its owner.
The problem is in one machine a stored procedure can not run unless its owner is mentioned.
If we connect to our database using this user and try to execute the following :
exec ourSP
we get a "could not find ourSP" error but this works fine:
exec user.ourSP
Does anybody knows what can lead to such a strange behavior?
I'd like to know if it is possible to have this application (neo4j) running on windows server 2008 alongside an asp.net mvc application. Reason for this, I need to access the graph database (neo4j) which provides a RESTful service from my mvc application. How would I go about setting up this architecture?
Is it possible in Visual Studio 2008, either with or without Resharper, to re-order methods in a class file to match the order of methods in an associated interface file? What about the opposite (re-ordering the interface to match the implementing class)?
So SQL Server 2008 in Hyper-V is a supported configuration, and should perform well as long as you use fixed or pass-through disks and increase your processor/memory settings appropriately. My question is can I use snapshots as a reliable backup mechanism, or should I use the tried and trusted maintenance plan to do my backups?
I had this script which worked in sql server 2005
-- t-sql scriptlet to drop all constraints on a table
DECLARE @database nvarchar(50)
DECLARE @table nvarchar(50)
set @database = 'dotnetnuke'
set @table = 'tabs'
DECLARE @sql nvarchar(255)
WHILE EXISTS(select * from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLE_CONSTRAINTS where constraint_catalog = @database and table_name = @table)
BEGIN
select @sql = 'ALTER TABLE ' + @table + ' DROP CONSTRAINT ' + CONSTRAINT_NAME
from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLE_CONSTRAINTS
where constraint_catalog = @database and
table_name = @table
exec sp_executesql @sql
END
It does not work in SQL Server 2008. How can I easily drop all foreign key constraints for a certain table? Does anyone have a better script?
Even if I have made a certification exam on Sql Server Design and implementation , I have no clue about how to trace/debug/optimise performance in Sql Sever.
Now the database I built is really business critical, and getting big, so it is time for me to dig into optimisation, specially regarding when/where to add indexes.
Can you recommend a good book on this subject ? (smaller is better :)
Just in case: I am using Sql Server 2008.
Thanks
Im trying to compare these two chars but on win 32 Visual Studio 2008:

I am a SQL Server (2005 & 2008) data warehouse developer (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, SQL) and I am wondering if it would be worth the effort and time to learn Powershell scripting. Are there applicable uses from a development perspective? I understand that from a DBA view there is considerable power in Powershell for administration - does any of this translate to useful commands for a developer?
Thanks!
So I have a number of namedRanges in an excel worksheet. I would like to use these to fill in comboboxes on a user form in the same WorkBook.
I have tried:
cboMember.DataSource = Globals.Sheet1.MemberRange.Value
No error is given but the combo is blank. Does anybody have any ideas?
I'm trying to use VSTO for VS 2008 on an excel 2003 work book.
I have a .DLL that i include in my Visual Studio 2008 project. The .DLL came with a .XML file that has all the comments for the properties and functions.
How do i make it so that VS loads up these comments as Intellisense, so that i have a definition for the functions?
I backed up a SQL Server 2005 database and restored it to a new SQL 2008 instance. The restore was quick and successful. Everything was fine for an hour or so.
Suddenly, the database is now stuck in "(Restoring...)" state in Management Studio and has a green arrow icon, and my application login is failing!
Any advice? :-)
UI is created in VS 2008. I'm using C# .... I need to let the user move/focus between text fields from top to bottom by clicking tab button. How can i do it?
My SQL Server 2008 server gets flooded with dynamic SQL from one stored procedure. I am wondering whether I can tell SQL Server not to store this one stored procedure in the pool as it doesn't matter too much whether it executes quickly. Perhaps there is an equivalent of (nolock) for (nobuffer) or similar?
Any ideas?
Hi, I need to change the database name in SQL SERVER 2008 and use it in another project. However it consist hundreds of stored procedures and the name of the database should be changed in the stored procedures as well. Is there any way to do this?
I have never spent much time debugging multithreaded .NET apps (or others), and have quite a simple one to solve very quickly. Ideally I would imagined and would lurve to be able to intercept thread creation and use by worker objects, so that nothing unexpected happens while I'm on a breakpoint in my thread. Is that realistic?
What else is there in VS 2010?
