  After giving it more thought, I don't actually need a PHP-based CMS for a small, static web site. Does someone know of a good solution that can run on Windows that would take basic HTML pages and JPG pictures, combine those with a template, and generate a static site ready to be FTPed to an web server?   We need to generate a release in 3 weeks, and for the planning we are doing today we don't have coherent logical user stories from the backlog tasks. Is valid to match say each development task is equivalent to an user story? Methodologically what is the correct way of handling this?, because anyway we are going to have standup meetings and we are going to control the progress of the project against those development tasks.   On provider A I have an existing web hosting account running my site. On provider B I have my domain name registered pointing to the web hosting on provider A. I've just purchased a web hosting account with provider B and want to move my site there. Is there a way to temporarily use my domain name to point to provider B while I set up the site (e.g. just from my computer)? I tried to change the HOSTS file (Windows) and while pings resolved to what I set, HTTP requests don't.

  I have a free dyndns domain mk12.gotdns.com How can I set up a cname for www.mk12.gotdns.com to point to mk12.gotdns.com? And how can I force the www one, so that if you navigate to mk12.gotdns.com, it will go to the www one? Note: I don't mean html redirecting, but I think you can do it with url rewriting somehow, something like described here. I've seen many tutorials, but they just vaguely say that you have to enter a cname record, I have no clue what file I need to put it in. • What are the benefits of a disk install vs. Wubi? And can I migrate my settings easily?

  I chose to do the Wubi install because it was short, simple, and easy to reverse (no messing with partitions required). To be honest, I can handle the lack of a hibernate function. I haven't really heard many other benefits of installing on a separate partition than hibernation and negligibly faster hard disk read/write. Yet almost everyone I encounter seems to have opted for the disk installation. Are there more benefits I should be aware of, especially as a college student who wants a fast, efficient machine for documents, web browsing, etc. (nothing big like gaming, I can run that on Windows)? Also, I have a fair amount of settings and packages installed that I spent a bit of time on and would rather not have to do again. Is there any way I can migrate all of these settings from the virtual disk on my C:/ drive (Wubi installation) to the disc installation in another partition? (I have a 16GB USB drive if that'll do the trick)

• ifconfig can't see USB wireless

  I have a wifi USB dongle which I have previously used on a Raspberry Pi (this it is what it is target at). I am trying to get it working on an Nvidia Jetson TK1, however I am having some problems. When I run ifconfig I can't see the wifi, only the ethernet and local loopback. iwconfig reports no wireless extensions on all devices. lsusb does find the device: Bus 002 Device 008: ID 148f:5370 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT5370 Wireless Adapter So I am not sure why the network tools can't see it. I have tried logging on with a GUI and opening up the network settings through Unity, but cannot see any wireless devices either. Not sure if this is useful, but output of lsmod: Module Size Used by nvhost_vi 2940 0 How can I enable wireless networking on this computer? Command line approach is preferred, but either is fine. UPDATE I don't have the kernel module rt2800usb anywhere on my system. If I do an apt-file search for rt2800usb it lists a number of packages of the pattern: linux-image-3.13.0-*. Perhaps installing one of these will do the trick, but can anyone tell me if its safe to do so?

• 12.10 starts up to just my desktop background [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Unity does not start after installing the fglrx drivers on 12.10 I have only just started using linux more than just instlling it on an old pc for fun and have just changed the driver settings from the default option. The computer starts up and goes through everything else well, but at slightly lower resolution. Once signing on to Ubuntu, it only displays my desktop background and cursor. Can i restore it to the default driver settings? I've spent a while transferring files and don't want to reinstall Ubuntu.

• Search engine bots accessing strange URLs

  We have ELMAH enabled on our site and get errors whenever a Page Not Found error is triggered on the website. We have recently redesigned a new website and so we understand that search engine robots might have previously indexed pages which they try to access and result in a Page Not Found errors. For this reason, we have set up permanent redirects for such previously indexed pages to the respective new pages. The website in mention is www.chambercollege.com and for example, a previously indexed URL was www.chambercollege.com/special-offers.aspx. This page is no longer accessible so we have created the necessary permanent redirect to redirect to the respective page on www.chambercollege.com/en/content/special-offers-161/. Now we are starting to receive Page Not Found errors of search engine bots (e.g. MSN bot) trying to access the URL www.chambercollege.com/special-offers.aspx/images/shadow_right.jpg/. Any idea how could a search engine make up that strange URL and whether you have any suggestions of what to do best?

  I have found a great domain that isn't in use, but the .com and .net domains are already taken. There's nothing on the domains though, it just says they are registered with Network Solutions and are under construction. My question is: If i buy the .org version of the domain, and the .com guys later start a company on that domain, can they sue me or make me change name because it is too similar to their .com domain? Should i avoid using domains that have already been registered but with a different ending?

• Blank desktop after login

  Today my 14.04 updated itself not requiring a reboot. After a while I rebooted because of other reasons and then I was pleasantly surprised by a blank screen. I have tried everything I could think about including Reinstalled compiz, unity, ubuntu-desktop, xorg Reinstalled and then removed the nvidia driver So far nothing has worked. Except for one little thing: my cairo-dock is showing. And that's all. I tried with Unity doesn't load, no Launcher, no Dash appears, but none of the answers there helped me. I also tried removing my ~/.Xauthority file and it still doesn't work. Does anybody know what else I could try? UPDATE: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg sudo service lightdm stop sudo service lightdm start When I run that code and then login again the icons on the desktop are displayed but the menu and the launcher are still not there. Also, when I try to run an application from CTRL + ALT + F1 such as dconf reset -f /org/compiz/ it says Cannot autolaunch D-Bus without X11 $DISPLAY I can only run applications with export DISPLAY=:0

• How can I add missing Fn-key controls?

  I have a Toshiba NB200 netbook. The majority of the Fn-key controls come through fine and are recognized by my OS (I'm running Kubuntu 12.04/KDE 4.9) but according to the markings on my keyboard there are a few more that xev isn't detecting, i.e. Fn + F9 (touchpad toggle) Fn + 1 (increase screen resolution) Fn + 2 (decrease screen resolution) Fn + Space (zoom) Now, I don't particularly need those last three but I thought it would be quite useful to remap them to, say, Media Previous, Media Next, and Media Play, but I can't do that if the signals aren't getting through. Is there any way for me to persuade the OS to recognize these keystrokes? I've tried using acpi_listen to detect scancodes but it doesn't pick up any of function-related Fn-key strokes (like Audio Mute, which does work by the way).

• Xubuntu fails to stay awake when the machine is under load

  I have the following problem with a fresh install of Xubuntu 12.04: I set up power management options so as to send the machine to sleep after it's been idle for a while. My intention was to have it finish some lengthy numbercrunching and then fall asleep late at night when nobody's present to shut it down. What actually happened, however, is that the machine goes to sleep whenever the desktop session has been idle for the specified amount of time, and it does not seem to care at all about CPU load, and I had to disable sleep altogether. Is there any way to fix this?
