  • ASP.NET MVC2 Model Validation Fails with Non-US Date Format

    I have a small MVC2 app that displays in two cultures: en-US and es-MX. One portion contains a user input for a date that is pre-populated with the current date in the Model. When using en-US, the date field is displayed as MM/dd/yyyy and can be changed using the same format without causing any validation errors. When using es-MX, the date field is displayed as dd/MM/yyyy, but when the date is edited in this format, the server-side validation fails with the message: The value '17/05/1991' is not valid for The Date. One of the first things that jumps out at me about that message is that it is not localized. Both the message itself (which I do not think I can control) and the Display Name of the field (which I can control and is localized in my code). Should be displaying in a localized format. I have tried stepping through the code to see exactly where the validation is failing, but it seems to be happening inside some of the compiled MVC or DataAnnotations code that I cannot see. My Entities have the following relationship. tblPortal PortalId PrortalName tblPortalAlias AliasId PortalId HttpAlias Each Portal can have many PortalAlias. I want to Add a New Portal and then Add the associated PortalAlias. I am confused on how I should structure the Views and how I should present the Views to the user.   • MVC keeping the PartialView in its own context - ignore the main view holding the partial view

    I'm looking at the partialview components of the MVC Framework. i want my partial view to be handled in its own action and for the rest of the view to handle itself, but i'm getting an exception because the main page is not getting its view fired. Am i going around this the wrong way? Rather then having all the form submitting code in the main action for the view. am i do this wrong?

  • Dropdownlist post in ASP.NET MVC3 and Entity Framework Model

    I have 3 tables: RateProfile RateProfileID ProfileName Rate RateID RateProfileID PanelID Other stuff to update Panel PanelID PanelName I have models for each of these. I have an edit page using the RateProfile model. I display the information for RateProfile and also all of the Rates associated with it. This works fine and I can update it fine. However, I also added a dropdown so that I can filter Rates by PanelID. I need it to post back on change so that it can display the filtered rates. I'm using @Html.DropDownList("PanelID", (SelectList)ViewData["PanelDropDown"], new { onchange = "$('#RateForm').submit()" }) for my dropdownlist. Whenever it posts back to my HttpPost Edit method though, it seems to be missing all information about the Rates navigation property. It's weird because I thought it would do exactly what the input/submit button that I have in the form does (which actually passes the entire model back to my HttpPost Edit action and does what I want it to do). The panelID is properly being passed to my HttpPost Edit method and on to the next view, but when I try to query the Model.Rates navigation property is null (only when the post comes from the dropdown. Everything works fine when the post comes from my submit input).   • How to include the login form on the Home index page in MVC

    Hi guys I really need your help for this. I am relatively new to programming and I need help to something that could be easy for a experienced programmer. I would like to get the login form that we get for free in an MVC application on the left sidebar of my Home index page instead of the usual Account/Login page. I am facing some problems. First I need a product object to be displayed on my Home Index page as well. What I did is that I added a product object to the LogOnModel that they provide in the AccountModels class and I created a UserControl (partial view) copying the content of the LogOn.aspx view. Now my Home index.aspx as well as my partial view inherits the LogOnModel class. I can see the Login form on my Home Index page as well as my product object BUT the login Form is never empty. The last username and password always appear there. I know I must have forgotten something or have done something wrong or the way did it is completely wrong !!     Hi, I'm 3 days into learning MVC for a new project and i've managed to stumble my way over the multitude of issues I've come across - mainly about something as simple as moving data to a view and back into the controller in a type-safe (and manageable) manner. This is the latest. I've seen this reported before but nothing advised has seemed to work. I suspect this is because the default model binder doesn't realise the HTML ItemId and Identifier elements rendered inline in the View map to the SearchFragment class. When I have two extra properties (ItemId and Identifier) in the IndexViewModel, the values are bound correctly. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, I must use the SearchFragment as I need this to strongly type the Search UserControl... as the control can be used anywhere it can operate under any parent view. I really don't want to make it use "magic strings". There's too much of that going on already IMO. I've tried prefixing the HTML with "Search." in the hope that the model binder would recognise "Search.ItemId" and match to the IndexViewModel "Search" property and the ItemId within it, but this doesn't work. I fear I'm going to have to write my own ModelBinder to do this, but surely this must be something you can do out-of-the-box?? Failing that is there any other suggestions (or link to someone who has already done this?) Here's hoping....

    I've see this question asked a couple of other times, and I followed this after I tried things on my own with the MS music store demo to no avail, but I still can't get this to work. I've also noticed when I look at my MultiSelectList object in the viewmodel, it has the correct items in the selected items property, but if I expand the results view, it doesn't have any listboxitem with the selected value. What I want to do is simply bind that model without too much hassle where possible (avoiding type converters, etc).   • Create Views for object properties in model in MVC 3 application?

    I have an Asp.Net MVC 3 application with a database "Consultants", accessed by EF. Now, the Consultant table in the db has a one-to-many relationship to several other tables for CV type information (work experience, etc). So a user should be able to fill in their name etc once, but should be able to add a number of "work experiences", and so on. But these foreign key tables are complex objects in the model, and when creating the Create View I only get the simple properties as editor fields. How do I go about designing the View or Views so that the complex objects can be filled in as well? I picture a View in my mind where the simple properties are simple fields, and then some sort of control where you can click "add work experience", and as many as needed would be added. But how would I do that and still utilize the model binding? In fact, I don't know how to go about it at all. (BTW, Program and Language stand for things like software experience in general, and natural language competence, not programming languages, in case you're wondering about the relationships there). Any ideas greatly appreciated!
