  XNA If I have a button class, and I have a buttonManager class that manages what buttons to be drawn to the screen depending on what the current game state is (main menu, in game, etc), how do I organize my code so that when I click on a button, it takes the user to a different screen. (ex. options menu, ingame). To be more specific, if I were to put the check to see if the user clicks on the button within the buttonManager how would I have the game switch and run the actual game (which is in an entire different class)? • Getting started with Android code samples - permissions error

  New to android. Running Eclipse on Ubuntu 9.10 with Android SDK plugin installed and working. Trying to get some code samples from http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/get.html , and following its procedure to load said samples in Eclipse yields: Parent of resource: /home/user/android-sdk/platforms/android-4/samples/Notepad/.project is marked as read-only. chmod is not recursive, so I entered ~/android-sdk/platforms and "chmod 777 *" ie. all folders in /platforms. Still doesnt work. Appears to be be a bug in Eclipse that wants to create the project in the SDK folder rather than under ~/workspace.

• Refer to a Spark view component in code

  I'm building a mobile AIR app using Flash Builder 4.5. The initial view in my views package is TestHomeView.mxml. I want to refer to it in one of my .as classes elsewhere in the app, and I'm not sure how to do that. Theoretically I should be able to add an "id" attribute to TestHomeView.mxml, but FB gives me an error: "id is not allowed on the root tag of a component". The root tag is s:view. The reason I need to do this is that within another class I make various calculations and then need to pass an array of values to a component in my view class. So in SomeOtherActionScriptClass.as I first assemble the array, myArray, and then in that class I want to do this: myViewComponent.viewArray = myArray; If I'm going to do that, I also need to import the view class into the .as class, which strikes me as weird. So is there a simple way to do what I want, or do I have to dispatch a custom event which contains the array, and listen for it in the view class? Thanks.

  I'm used to Java programming where an error is thrown and it tells you at what line the error was thrown from which file. But with Objective-C in XCode, I can't ever tell where the error comes from. How can I figure out where the error came from? • SQL Server 2008 EF 4 - limiting database records returned using permissions?

  In our database all tables are linked back to a single table. This table has a bit column to limit whether the record is displayed. Currently the records are filtered on the code side of the website. Is there any way to set up permission so that userA would never see any record in the database where that common bit column was set to true? We are using SQL Server 2008. Alternatively we are also using entity framework 4.0 in .net 4 (in c#) if you have any ideas how it might be accomplished there? Thanks for your feedback.

• How to run AWS sample JAVA code on an EC2

  I just started with Amazon web services, and I have an EC2 instance. I downloaded the JAVA SDK and the Eclipse toolbox. I am able to run a sample program locally on my PC and connect to the Amazon databases, etc. My question is, what do I need to do to get this working on my EC2 instance? This may not even be specific to AWS. On Eclipse, I can just "Run as Application" and run any code. On the server side, what do I need to do? Should I ftp over my .java files? Should I export it to a jar and upload that? Do I need to install anything special to actually run it? I'm just trying to run the basic DynamoDB example that connects to the database and adds a new table and row

• Vim and clang_complete, how to explicitly compile my code

  I use Vim with clang_complete for omnicompletion. The plugin is automatically triggered when I need completion, e.g., after I type . or -> to access an object members or methods (see attached screenshot). The plugin works really nice, however I would need a way to trigger it manually (i.e. to compile my code for syntax checking). This is useful for two reasons: Static syntax checking Clear previous errors which have been fixed (which otherwise will remain in their buffer). • Visual Studio add-in to support images inline with source?

  We use Visual Studio 2005 here, and in an attempt to improve the documentation of our source, we're looking for a Visual Studio add-in that will allow images to be viewed in line with source from within the IDE. For example, the use case I'd like to fit is the following: In the directory in which my source lives, I save my image file my_image.png. In the source file, I write a comment of the form /// @image my_image.png The add-in allows me to toggle between seeing the text /// @image my_image.png and viewing the actual image within the code editing window, inline with whatever source surrounds it. Does anyone know of an existing add-in for VS 2005? If not, does the VS add-in api allow for such functionality? Thanks!

• Process data BEFORE a 301 Redirect?

  So, I've been working on a PHP link shortener (I know, just what the world needs). Basically when the page loads, php determines where it needs to go and sends a 301 Header to redirect the browser, like so... Header( "HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently" ); header("Location: http://newsite.com"; Now, I'm trying to add some tracking to my redirects and insert some custom analytics data into a MySQL table before the redirect happen. It works perfectly if I don't specify the a redirect type and just use: header("Location: http://newsite.com"; But, of course as soon as you add in the 301 header, nothing else gets processed. Actually, on the first request, it sends the data to MySQL, but on any subsequent requests there's no communication with the database. I assume it's a browser caching issue, once it's seen the 301 it decides they're no reason to parse anything on future requests. But, does anyone know if there's any way to get around this? I'd really like to keep it as a 301 for SEO purposes (I believe if you don't specify it sends a 404 by default?). I thought about using .htaccess to prepend a file to the page that will do the MySQL work, but with the 301, wouldn't that just get ignored as well? Anyway, I'm not sure if there's any solution other than using a different type of redirect, but I'm ready to give up just yet. So, any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

• Best way to update/insert into a table based on a remote table.

  I have two very large enterprise tables in an Oracle 10g database. One table keeps the historical information of the other table. The problem is, I'm getting to the point where the records are just too many that my insert update is taking too long and my session is getting killed by the governor.   Is there a way to execute python code in a browser, other than using Jython and an applet? The execution does not have to deal with anything related to graphics. For example, just sum all the digits of a binary 1Gb file (chosen by the browser user) and then return the result to the server. I am aware that python can be executed remotely outside a browser, but my requirement is to be done inside a browser. For sure, I take for granted the user will keep the right to execute or not, and will be asked to do so, and all this security stuff... but that is not my question.

• What is a good standard for code width?

  Hello everyone :) I've heard in several places that it's bad to have code that is too wide onscreen. For example: for (std::vector<EnumServiceInformation>::const_iterator currentService = services.begin(); currentService != services.end(); currentService++) However, I've heard many arguments for 80 character wide limits. I'm assuming this 80 character limit comes from the traditional command prompt, which is typically 80 characters wide. However -- most of us are working on something much better than a typical command prompt, and I feel that using an 80 character limit encourages use of variable names that are far too short and do not describe what the variable is used for. What is a reasonable limit for a new project with no existing coding width standard?

Methods I know are as follow: Name form elements as array, eg. <input type="text" name="contact[name]"> <input type="text" name="contact[surname]"> and then use: $this->Model_name->add_contact($this->input->post('contact')); The other would be to add each element to an array and then send it to the model as such: <input type="text" name="name"> <input type="text" name="surname"> and $contact_array = array('name' => $this->input->post('name'), 'surname' => $this->input->post('surname')); $this->Model_name->add_contact($this->input->post('contact')); Which one of these would be best practice, and is there a way to directly send a whole POST to a model (or a whole form maybe?)

• Need a Concatenating VBA code to prevent memory issue workaround

  My set up: Have 50,000 rows of data. ( My row count will increase in the future. So might as well say I have a full worksheet of 64000+ rows.) All Data is TEXT, no formulas, etc. Column A is open Columns B thru AC contain the Data that needs to be concatenated The Data in the rows once concatenated to Column A will contain 60,000 digits or 6kb in file size. After additional maniuplation each cell will become a file. I have tried concatenating in Excel and I run into memory issues. The memory issue is when I Select and fill down the concatenating function into the worksheet. It crashes at the 8200 +/-row. My system is 2gb of ram, windows xp professional and Excel 2003. Have 4GB of disk space Hoping to find a VBA code that will conserve memory, and not crash like it does in excel. Thank you

  In eclipse, whenever I create a new C++ class, or C header file, I get the following type of structure. Say I create header file example.h, I get this: /*Comments*/ #ifndef EXAMPLE_H_ #define EXAMPLE_H_ /* Place to put all of my definitions etc. */ #endif I think ifndef is saying that if EXAMPLE_H_ isn't defined, define it, which may be useful depending on what tool you are using to compile and link your project. However, I have two questions: Is this fairly common? I don't see it too often. And is it a good idea to use that rubric, or should you just jump right into defining your code. What is EXAMPLE_H_ exactly? Why not example.h, or just example? Is there anything special about that, or could is just be an artifact of how eclipse prefers to autobuild projects?
