Rails3 and safe nl2br !

Hi, I have a system for the users to be able to post comments. The comments are grasped into a textarea. My problem is to format the comments with br tag to replace \n In fact, i could do something like that s.gsub(/\n/, '<br />') But the xss protection including in rails escapes br tags. So i could do this s.gsub(/\n/, '<br />').html_safe But then, all the tags are accepted even script.... causing a big security problem So my question is : how to format text with br safely ? Facebook Like button - comment box with breif description and image

On my website when the user selects the facebook like button they have the option to enter comments. This popup window to enter comments only contains the users avatar and place to enter comments. How can i include my pic and a brief description of the site directly below the comment??? At first I thought it was from the HTML title attribute or meta property="og:title" ... but populating these have no affect I have another site that contains both pic and a desc below the comment but the pic seems to be grabed at random -but always the same- from the site and the short desc I thought from the -title- attribute but its not - I changed the -title- and it still shows the same desc, its like its cached??? Any ideas how to control or populate a brief description and image within the comment section of a like button???

Including associations optimization in Rails

Hey, I'm looking for help with Ruby optimization regarding loading of associations on demand. This is simplified example. I have 3 models: Post, Comment, User. References are: Post has many comments and Comment has reference to User (:author). Now when I go to the post page, I expect to see post body + all comments (and their respective authors names). This requires following 2 queries: select * from Post -- to get post data (1 row) select * from Comment inner join User -- to get comment + usernames (N rows) In the code I have: Post.find(params[:id], :include => { :comments => [:author] } But it doesn't work as expected: as I see in the back end, there're still N+1 hits (some of them are cached though). How can I optimize that?

How to refactor this Ruby on Rails code?

I want to fetch posts based on their status, so I have this code inside my PostsController index action. It seems to be cluttering the index action, though, and I'm not sure it belongs here. How to tell a UITableView to preload all Rows?

Is there a way to tell a UITableView to preload all rows? The tableView is supposed to show several comments (up to 80 comments). So my CommentCell uses a Setter to adapt the cell to a specific comment. -(void)setComment:(Comment *)newComment { if (newComment != comment) { [comment release]; comment = [newComment retain]; /* * set the cells view variables here */ } } This specific setter takes quite a bunch of processing resources and scrolling gets kinda laggy. I am using a comment-specific reuseIdentifier instead of a static cellIdentifier when calling dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier: in order to assure, that "newComment" equals the old "comment". And in fact this does work great when scrolling over cells which have already been loaded. But when scrolling through the comments for the first time, it still lags like hell. Which leads me to my question: Is there a way to tell the tableview to preload all cells? (which I doubt) or Do I have to implement my own cache instead of relying on "dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:"?

Can you use MongoDB map/reduce to migrate data?

I have a large collection where I want to modify all the documents by populating a field. A simple example might be caching the comment count on each post: class Post field :comment_count, type: Integer has_many :comments end class Comment belongs_to :post end I can run it in serial with something like: Post.all.each do |p| p.udpate_attribute :comment_count, p.comments.count end But it's taking 24 hours to run (large collection). I was wondering if mongo's map/reduce could be used for this? But I haven't seen a great example yet. I imagine you would map off the comments collection and then store the reduced results in the posts collection. Am I on the right track?

Rails show view of one model with form for adding one child - nested attributes vs seperate controll

I have a basic two tiered model structure: Articles - Comments with one Article having many comments. What is the best way to add a "Add a comment" form to the bottom of the Articles show page? nested_attributes is overkill as I don't want to be able to edit all of the comments on the page, just to add one more. Is the best way even with Rails 2.3 still to make a separate controller and embed a form_for pointing to the other controller into the Articles show view? If so, how do I get validation errors to return to the article display page? I don't want to make a separate comment page/view... thanks

This is right way for database?

Hello, i have some issue with database. Okay, i have two models - Page and Item. Page for displaying some content. Item - this is item discription. So, i work on small ecommerce shop. Okay, all of this models can have some comments. So, this is my Comments model at this moment: Comments - string : id text : body integer : page_id integer : item_id So when some one add comment to page - page_id will be filled with current Page id. And if some one add comment to item - item_id will be filled. Okay, i know what the best way is to create STI or Polymorphic assoc, but does i really need this way for my situation? Sorry for my bad english, i'm from Russia.=)

User's possibilities on site

I want to build a system on the website, that allows users to do some things depend on their rating. For example I have rule for rating value X: 1 post in 3 days 10 comments in 1 day 20 votes in 2 days for rating value Y, rule may be following: 3 post in 1 day 50 comments in 1 day 30 votes in 1 day Each night I recalculate users' ratings, so I know what each user is able to do. Possibilities don't sum or reset on each rating's recalculation. One more important thing is that admin can fill concrete user's possibilities at any time. What is optimal database (MySQL) structure for desired? I can count what concrete user has done: SELECT COUNT(*) FROM posts WHERE UserID=XXX AND DateOfPost >= 'YYY' SELECT COUNT(*) FROM comments WHERE UserID=XXX AND CommentOfPost >= 'YYY' But how can I do admin filling possibilities in this case?

MVC Model architecture

I'm getting into CodeIgniter and trying to figure out the good architecture for my models. What kind of models would you create for the following simple example: list page of blog entries: shows part of the entry data, number of comments blog entry page: shows all the entry data, comment list (with part of the comment data) comment page: shows all the comment data I'm trying to get this right so that it's simple and effective. I don't want to load too much information (from the db) on the pages where I don't need them. E.g. should the same entry model handle both multiple entries as well as a single entry? And how should the comments be loaded? I only need the number of comments on the multiple entries (list) page but some of the comment data on the single entry page. How would you handle this?

Ok, so I've written some code that, for all intents and purposes, should work: def checkComments(comments): for comment in comments: print comment.body checkComments(comment.replies) def processSub(sub): sub.replace_more_comments(limit=None, threshold=0) checkComments(sub.comments) #login and subreddit init stuff here subs = mysubreddit.get_hot(limit=50) for sub in subs: processSub(sub) However, given a submission that has 50 nested replies like so: root comment -> 1st reply -> 2nd reply -> 3rd reply ... -> 50th reply The above code only prints: root comment 1st reply 2nd reply 3rd reply 4th reply 5th reply 6th reply 7th reply 8th reply 9th reply Any idea how I can get the remaining 41 levels of replies? Or is this a praw limitation?

The comments will store in a MySQL table . table structure as follows id | Comment | user | created_date ------------------------------------------------------ 12 | comment he | 1245 | 2012-03-30 12:15:00 ------------------------------------------------------ I need to run a query for listing all the comments after a specific time. ie .. a query like this SELECT * FROM comments WHERE created_date > "2012-03-29 12:15:00" ORDER BY created_date DESC Its working fine.. My question is if I got a 1-2 lakh entry in this table is this query is sufficient for the purpose ? or this query will take time to execute ? In most cases I have to show last 2 days data + periodically ( interval of 10 mins ) checking for updates with ajax from this table ... Please help Thanks

Can't change text color in Microsoft Word 2010

I have Microsoft Office 2010 32-bit running on Windows 7 32-bit. When text is highlighted and a color is selected from the mini-toolbar or the ribbon, the text does not change color. If I change the color for multiple words, and select a different color for each word, the toolbar and ribbon will reflect each of the different colors that I chose, however it is not displayed in the document. So it appears that Word is aware of the text color and not as if it is simply not applying the change. What may be causing this inability to view text colors and how might I fix it? My only troubleshooting attempt so far has been to perform a repair installation of Office. EDIT 1 I created a document, typed a word, selected it and changed the color. I then saved the document as HTML. The text did not change color. Oddly, I had some strange issues while the macro was recorded. I could not select text with my cursor. I had to select the text with control a and then apply the color change. I then couldn't deselect the selected text. Nonetheless, the text showed that it had a different color in the toolbar, but the color did not display in the document. Here's the macro: Sub Change_Text_Color() ' ' Change_Text_Color Macro ' ' Selection.TypeText Text:="Test Text" Selection.WholeStory Selection.WholeStory End Sub EDIT 3 I opened WordPad and created some text and was able to successfully change the color. If I copy and paste the colored text into a Word 2010 document, the color is lost. However, if you place the I-beam in the text and then look at the color selection drop-down menu on the ribbon or mini-toolbar, you can see that the proper color that the text should be in is highlighted. Edit 4 I uninstalled the entire Office 2010 Suite, rebooted and then reinstalled the suite. No change in behavior. Edit 5 Text cannot be colored in Excel either.

How To Delete Built-in Windows 7 Power Plans (and Why You Probably Shouldn’t)

Do you actually use the Windows 7 power management features? If so, have you ever wanted to just delete one of the built-in power plans? Here’s how you can do so, and why you probably should leave it alone. Just in case you’re new to the party, we’re talking about the power plans that you see when you click on the battery/plug icon in the system tray. The problem is that one of the built-in plans always shows up there, even if you only use custom plans. When you go to “More power options” on the menu there, you’ll be taken to a list of them, but you’ll be unable to get rid of any of the built-in ones, even if you have your own. You can actually delete the power plans, but it will probably cause problems, so we highly recommend against it. If you still want to proceed, keep reading. Delete Built-in Power Plans in Windows 7 Open up an Administrator mod command prompt by right-clicking on the command prompt and choosing “Run as Administrator”, then type in the following command, which will show you a whole list of the plans. powercfg list Do you see that really long GUID code in the middle of each listing? That’s what we’re going to need for the next step. To make it easier, we’ll provide the codes here, just in case you don’t know how to copy to the clipboard from the command prompt. And now, we can delete the plan by using the –delete parameter, and the same GUID. powercfg –delete 381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e If you want to import the plan again, you can use the -import parameter, though it has one weirdness—you have to specify the full path to the file, like this: powercfg –import c:\balanced.xml Using what you’ve learned, you can export each of the plans to a file, and then delete the ones you want to delete. Why Shouldn’t You Do This? Very simple. Stuff will break. On my test machine, for example, I removed all of the built-in plans, and then imported them all back in, but I’m still getting this error anytime I try to access the panel to choose what the power buttons do: There’s a lot more error messages, but I’m not going to waste your time with all of them. So if you want to delete the plans, do so at your own peril. At least you’ve been warned! Customizing Spaces UI

In most common scenarios we stumble up on use cases to customize the Web center spaces UI. Is the Spaces UI customizable? What is the extent to which we can customize? How do i customize it? These are some questions that developers/architects normally come across. Well to clear the air, OOTB spaces comes with some default "site templates" and it also gives a flexibility to create custom site templates suiting the organization needs. The site templates concept has been introduced in the latest PS1 release of webcenter and to customize/create the the new site template, we have to leverage the Extend Spaces Project available on OTN. You could download the the project from here. Also there is white paper available on what all can be customized/extended from spaces perspective listed here . There is a specific details outlined on how to create custom site template in the Customizing Site Template white paper. One of the things the white paper high lights is "While you can create new site templates and modify the sample site templates but you cannot modify either of the out-of-the-box site templates ie the default and maximized. So if my need is to either increase the size of header to fit in a bigger logo or introduce couple of extra links on the default/maximized lay out how do i achieve this? All you need to do is customize the OOTB shell (shell-config.xml). 1. Copy the shell config's available in the Source Files Directory of the extended spaces unzipped directory into the CustomSite Template Project ExtendWebCenterSpaces\CustomSiteTemplate\custom\oracle\webcenter\webcenterapp\metadata\shell 2. Modify the appropriate shell 3. Deploy the CustomSite Template as ADF Jar 4. ensure you have the profile dependency on the aboproject int he custom webcenter spaces project 5. Deploy the Spaces Extension on the Webcenter Spaces Instance. (Details in the first white paper). You should see the changes immediately. eg: In the default shell, i have changed the height from 30 to 60 to increase the header size height="60" This is what i get to see : If you have worked on the R1 release time frame, where you created a custom shell/chrome, how do we make them compatible and make it available in the Spaces PS1 instance? All you need to do is the following: 1. Copy the custom shell in to the shell directory of the custom site template project 2. Register the shell with WCSiteTemplates.xml available in the same project. Eg : Yo can add the below entry pagePath="/oracle/webcenter/webcenterapp/view/templates/MyShellTemplate.jspx" pageDefPath="/oracle/webcenter/webcenterapp/bindings/pageDefs/oracle_webcenter_webcenterapp_view_templates_WebCenterAppShellTemplatePageDef.xml" displayName="myShell" chromeLevel="myShell"/ Note : pagePath - Absolute path of the template JSPX file. This path must be unique. So you might have to do the following to get your custom chrome working absolutely fine with no problems at all: 1. Create a jspx page, say /custom/mysite/SiteTemplate.jspx 2. Include the the default jspx in the new site template like following SiteTemplate.jspx ------------------ 3. Configuring Multiple Instances of MySQL in Solaris 11

Recently someone asked me for steps to configure multiple instances of MySQL database in an Operating Platform. Coz of my familiarity with Solaris OE, I prepared some notes on configuring multiple instances of MySQL database on Solaris 11. Maybe it's useful for some: If you want to run Solaris Operating System (or any other OS of your choice) as a virtualized instance in desktop, consider using Virtual Box. To download Solaris Operating System, click here. Once you have your Solaris Operating System (Version 11) up and running and have Internet connectivity to gain access to the Image Packaging System (IPS), please follow the steps as mentioned below to install MySQL and configure multiple instances: 1. Install MySQL Database in Solaris 11 $ sudo pkg install mysql-51 2. Verify if the mysql is installed: $ svcs -a | grep mysql Note: Service FMRI will look similar to the one here: svc:/application/database/mysql:version_51 3. Prepare data file system for MySQL Instance 1 zfs create rpool/mysql zfs create rpool/mysql/data zfs set mountpoint=/mysql/data rpool/mysql/data 4. Prepare data file system for MySQL Instance 2 zfs create rpool/mysql/data2 zfs set mountpoint=/mysql/data rpool/mysql/data2 5. Change the mysql/datadir of the MySQL Service (SMF) to point to /mysql/data $ svcprop mysql:version_51 | grep mysql/data $ svccfg -s mysql:version_51 setprop mysql/data=/mysql/data 6. Create a new instance of MySQL 5.1 (a) Copy the manifest of the default instance to temporary directory: $ sudo cp /lib/svc/manifest/application/database/mysql_51.xml /var/tmp/mysql_51_2.xml (b) Make appropriate modifications on the XML file $ sudo vi /var/tmp/mysql_51_2.xml - Change the "instance name" section to a new value "version_51_2" - Change the value of property name "data" to point to the ZFS file system "/mysql/data2" 7. Import the manifest to the SMF repository: $ sudo svccfg import /var/tmp/mysql_51_2.xml 8. Before starting the service, copy the file /etc/mysql/my.cnf to the data directories /mysql/data & /mysql/data2. $ sudo cp /etc/mysql/my.cnf /mysql/data/ $ sudo cp /etc/mysql/my.cnf /mysql/data2/ 9. Make modifications to the my.cnf in each of the data directories as required: $ sudo vi /mysql/data/my.cnf Under the [client] section port=3306 socket=/tmp/mysql.sock ---- ---- Under the [mysqld] section port=3306 socket=/tmp/mysql.sock datadir=/mysql/data ----- ----- server-id=1 $ sudo vi /mysql/data2/my.cnf Under the [client] section port=3307 socket=/tmp/mysql2.sock ----- ----- Under the [mysqld] section port=3307 socket=/tmp/mysql2.sock datadir=/mysql/data2 ----- ----- server-id=2 10. Make appropriate modification to the startup script of MySQL (managed by SMF) to point to the appropriate my.cnf for each instance: $ sudo vi /lib/svc/method/mysql_51 Note: Search for all occurences of mysqld_safe command and modify it to include the --defaults-file option. An example entry would look as follows: ${MySQLBIN}/mysqld_safe --defaults-file=${MYSQLDATA}/my.cnf --user=mysql --datadir=${MYSQLDATA} --pid=file=${PIDFILE} 11. Start the service: $ sudo svcadm enable mysql:version_51_2 $ sudo svcadm enable mysql:version_51 12. Verify that the two services are running by using: $ svcs mysql 13. Verify the processes: $ ps -ef | grep mysqld 14. Detecting Process Shutdown/Startup Events through ActivationAgents

@10g - This post is motivated by one of my close friends and colleague - who wanted to proactively know when a BPEL process shuts down/re-activates. This typically happens when you have a BPEL Process that has an inbound polling adapter, when the adapter loses connectivity to the source system. Or whatever causes it. One valuable suggestion came in from one of my colleagues - he suggested I write my own ActivationAgent to do the job. Well, it really worked. Here is a sample ActivationAgent that you can use. There are few methods you need to override from BaseActivationAgent, and you are on your way to receiving notifications/what not, whenever the shutdown/startup events occur. In the example below, I am retrieving the emailAddress property [that is specified in your bpel.xml activationAgent section] and use that to send out an email notification on the activation agent initialization. You could choose to do different things. Slick2D, Nifty GUI listeners problem

I'm trying to get Nifty GUI to work with Slick2D. So far everything is going great, except that I can't seem to figure out how to properly interact with the GUI. I'm trying the example in the nifty manual http://sourceforge.n....0.pdf/download but it doesn't seem to entirely work. The Element controller is being called for bind(...), init(...) and onStartScreen() as it should, as I can see their println output, but the next() method isn't being called when I click on the GUI element that I assigned the controller to, nor the screen controller as no output from println is shown. What's weird is, that the player is moving, so the mouse input is working. It's supposed to be called when I click the mouse button on it from the in the XML. Accounts in Work Items after migration to TFS 2010 and to new domain

Lately I’ve been doing some tests on migrating our TFS 2008 installation to TFS 2010, coupled with a machine and domain change. One particular topic that was tricky is user accounts. We installed first a new machine with TFS 2010 and then migrated the projects in the old server. The work items were migrated with the projects. Great, but if I try to edit one of the old work items I cannot save it anymore because some fields contain old user names (ex. OLDDOMAIN\user) which are not known in the new domain (it should be NEWDOMAIN\user). The errors look like this: When I correct the ‘Assigned To’ field value, I get another error regarding another field: Before TFS 2010, we had TFSUsers power tool. It allow you to map an old user name to a new user name. This is not available anymore because WI fields with user accounts are now synchronized with AD display names changes (explained here). The correct way to go about this in TFS 2010 is to use TFSConfig Identities before adding the new domain accounts into the TFS groups (documented here). So, too late for us. I’ve found a (tedious) workaround to change those old account in work items in order to allow people to keep working with them. 1. Install TFS 2010 power tools 2. Export WIT from your project (VS | Tools | Process Editor | Work Item Types). Save the definition, for example: Original_MyProject_Task.xml 3. Copy the xml (NoReadOnly_MyProject_Task.xml) and edit it. From the field definition of ‘Activated By’, ‘Closed By’ and ‘Resolved By’, remove the following: <WHENNOTCHANGED field="System.State"> <READONLY /> </WHENNOTCHANGED> 4. Import WIT in VS. Choose the new file (NoReadOnly_MyProject_Task.xml) and import it in MyProject 5. Open all tasks in Excel (flat list). Display the following columns: Asssigned To Activated By Closed By Resolved By Change the user accounts to the new ones (I usually sort each column alphabetically to make it easier). 6. Publish. If you get a conflict on a field, tough luck. You will have to manually choose “Local version” for each work item. I told you it was a tedious process. 7. Import original WIT (Original_MyProject_Task.xml) in MyProject. We only changed the WI definition so that we could change some fields. The original definition should be put back. And what about these other fields? Created By Authorized As These fields are not editable by definition (VS | Tools | Process Editor | Work Item Fields Explorer), even if they are not marked as read-only in the WIT. You can leave the old values. It doesn’t seem to matter to TFS. The other four fields are editable by definition, so only the WIT readonly rule prevents us from changing them. Threads are execution points that WebLogic Server delivers its power and execute work. Managing threads is very important because it may affect the overall performance of the entire system. In previous releases of WebLogic Server 9.0 we had multiple execute queues and user defined thread pools. There were different queues for different type of work which had fixed number of execute threads. Tuning of this thread pools and finding the proper number of threads was time consuming which required many trials. WebLogic Server 9.0 and the following releases use a single thread pool and a single priority-based execute queue. All type of work is executed in this single thread pool. Its size (thread count) is automatically decreased or increased (self-tuned). The new “self-tuning” system simplifies getting the proper number of threads and utilizing them.Work manager allows your applications to run concurrently in multiple threads. Work manager is a mechanism that allows you to manage and utilize threads and create rules/guidelines to follow when assigning requests to threads. We can set a scheduling guideline or priority a request with a work manager and then associate this work manager with one or more applications. At run-time, WebLogic Server uses these guidelines to assign pending work/requests to execution threads. The position of a request in the execute queue is determined by its priority. There is a default work manager that is provided. The default work manager should be sufficient for most applications. However there can be cases you want to change this default configuration. Your application(s) may be providing services that need mixture of fast response time and long running processes like batch updates. However wrong configuration of work managers can lead a performance penalty while expecting improvement.We can define/configure work managers at;• Domain Level: config.xml• Application Level: weblogic-application.xml • Component Level: weblogic-ejb-jar.xml or weblogic.xml(For a specific web application use weblogic.xml)We can use the following predefined rules/constraints to manage the work;• Fair Share Request Class: Specifies the average thread-use time required to process requests. The default is 50.• Response Time Request Class: Specifies a response time goal in milliseconds.• Context Request Class: Assigns request classes to requests based on context information.• Min Threads Constraint: Limits the number of concurrent threads executing requests.• Max Threads Constraint: Guarantees the number of threads the server will allocate to requests.• Capacity Constraint: Causes the server to reject requests only when it has reached its capacity. Let’s create a work manager for our application for a long running work.Go to WebLogic console and select Environment | Work Managers from the domain structure tree. Click New button and select Work manager and click next. Enter the name for the work manager and click next. Then select the managed server instances(s) or clusters from available targets (the one that your long running application is deployed) and finish. Click on MyWorkManager, and open the Configuration tab and check Ignore Stuck Threads and save. This will prevent WebLogic to tread long running processes (that is taking more than a specified time) as stuck and enable to finish the process.

I have searched other forums to solve this error where it would either end with: 1.) re-install OS 2.) Setting path variable C:/Windows/System32 The latter did not work, and as you can probably imagine, I do not want to have to re-install my OS...
