  • Fabfile with support for sqlalchemy-migrate deployments?

    - by Chris Reid
I have database migrations (with sqlalchemy-migrate) working well in my dev environment. However, I'm a little stumped about how to integrate this into my deployment process. I'm using fabric for deployment but having some trouble scripting the migrations part. The path to the to migrations directory in site-packages is dynamic (due to changing egg version number) and I'd rather not hard code my db password into the fabfile. Does anyone have a fabfile that plays nicely with sqlalchemy-migrate?

  • How are you using IronPython?

    - by Will Dean
I'm keen to drink some modern dynamic language koolaid, so I've believed all the stuff on Michael Foord's blog and podcasts, I've bought his book (and read some of it), and I added an embedded IPy runtime to a large existing app a year or so ago (though that was for someone else and I didn't really use it myself). Now I need to do some fairly simple code generation stuff, where I'm going to call a few methods on a few .net objects (custom, C#-authored objects), create a few strings, write some files, etc. The experience of trying this leaves me feeling like the little boy who thinks he's the only one who can see that The Emperor has no clothes on. If you're using IronPython, I'd really appreciate knowing how you deal with the following aspects of it: Code editing - do you use the .NET framework without Intellisense? Refactoring - I know a load of 'refactoring' is about working around language-related busywork, so if Python is sufficiently lightweight then we won't need that, But things like renames seem to me to be essential to iteratively developing quality code regardless of language. Crippling startup time - One of the things which is supposed to be good about interpreted languages is the lack of compile time leading to fast interactive development. Unfortunately I can compile a C# application and launch it quicker than IPy can start up. Interactive hacking - the IPy console/repl is supposed to be good for this, but I haven't found a good way to take the code you've interactively arrived at and persist it into a file - cut and paste from the console is fairly miserable. And the console seems to hold references to .NET assemblies you've imported, so you have to quit it and restart it if you're working on the C# stuff as well. Hacking on C# in something like LinqPad seems a much faster and easier way to try things out (and has proper Intellisense). Do you use the console? Debugging - what's the story here? I know someone on the IPy team is working on a command-line hobby-project, but let's just say I'm not immediately attracted to a command line debugger. I don't really need a debugger from little Python scripts, but I would if I were to use IPy for scripting unit tests, for example. Unit testing - I can see that dynamic languages could be great for this, but is there any IDE test-runner integration (like for Resharper, etc). The Foord book has a chapter about this, which I'll admit I have not yet read properly, but it does seem to involve driving a console-mode test-runner from the command prompt, which feels to be an enormous step back from using an integrated test runner like TestDriven.net or Resharper. I really want to believe in this stuff, so I am still working on the assumption that I've missed something. I would really like to know how other people are dealing with IPy, particularly if they're doing it in a way which doesn't feel like we've just lost 15 years'-worth of tool development.

  • .NET JIT Code Cache leaking?

    - by pitchfork
We have a server component written in .Net 3.5. It runs as service on a Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition. It works great but after some time (days) we notice massive slowdowns and an increased working set. We expected some kind of memory leak and used WinDBG/SOS to analyze dumps of the process. Unfortunately the GC Heap doesn’t show any leak but we noticed that the JIT code heap has grown from 8MB after the start to more than 1GB after a few days. We don’t use any dynamic code generation techniques by our own. We use Linq2SQL which is known for dynamic code generation but we don’t know if it can cause such a problem. The main question is if there is any technique to analyze the dump and check where all this Host Code Heap blocks that are shown in the WinDBG dumps come from? [Update] In the mean time we did some more analysis and had Linq2SQL as probable suspect, especially since we do not use precompiled queries. The following example program creates exactly the same behaviour where more and more Host Code Heap blocks are created over time. using System; using System.Linq; using System.Threading; namespace LinqStressTest { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { for (int i = 0; i < 100; ++ i) ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(Worker); while(runs < 1000000) { Thread.Sleep(5000); } } static void Worker(object state) { for (int i = 0; i < 50; ++i) { using (var ctx = new DataClasses1DataContext()) { long id = rnd.Next(); var x = ctx.AccountNucleusInfos.Where(an => an.Account.SimPlayers.First().Id == id).SingleOrDefault(); } } var localruns = Interlocked.Add(ref runs, 1); System.Console.WriteLine("Action: " + localruns); ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(Worker); } static Random rnd = new Random(); static long runs = 0; } } When we replace the Linq query with a precompiled one, the problem seems to disappear.

  • Why bind hibernate SessionFactory to a JNDI resource?

    - by jschoen
In my current adventure of learning hibernate and setting it up to use an appserver's connection pool, most examples and resources out there point you in the direction of binding the SessionFactory to a JNDI resource in your appserver in the process. I wondering what the benefit of this is? Since the you can access a the connection pool with out doing this.

  • Axis2 custom handler to turn security off

    - by Michael
I have a WCF service endpoint exposed over wsHttp binding with zero security config. When i call the service from Java I get the following error: org.apache.axis2.AxisFault: Must Understand check failed for header http://www.w3.org/2005/08/addressing : Action at org.apache.axis2.engine.AxisEngine.checkMustUnderstand(AxisEngine.java:102) How do I set the mustunderstand header to false. I would prefer to do this in code than via configuration.

  • Limiting selected rows count with a stored procedure parameter in MySQL

    - by ssobczak
I have a procedure SelectProc wich contains SELECT statement. I want to add a procedure param LimitRowsCount and use it as following: CREATE PROCEDURE SelectProc (IN LimitRowsCount INTEGER UNSIGNED) BEGIN SELECT (...) LIMIT LimitRowsCount; END but this approach doesn't work. The SELECT itself contains nested subqueries so I can't create view from it. Is there a way more propper then dynamic SQL (prepared statements) ?

  • JSF trimming white spaces

    - by msharma
HI, I have an input field in which I want to trim any leading/trailing whitespaces. We are using JSF and binding the input field to a backing bean in the jsp using: <h:inputText id="inputSN" value="#{regBean.inputSN}" maxlength="10"/> My question is that besides validation can this be done in the jsp? I know we can also do this using the trim() java function in the Handler, but just wondering if there is a more elegant way to achieve this in JSF. Thanks.

  • Databinding a StructuredPropertyEditor specific to type and target in Spring(Grails) - Selective app

    - by Colin Harrington
Using Grails 1.2.2, I'm working on binding a structured property (CC expiration Date) to a java.util.Date but only for specific Domain and Commands objects. I've found the StructuredPropertyEditor interface, but the only way that I've found to register it is to use the PropertyEditorRegistrar and register the editor for the java.util.Date class (much like this example) I don't want all of my dates to use my custom StructuredPropertyEditor. How do I apply the StructuredPropertyEditor selectively to specific targets like certain Command & Domain Classes?

  • Silverlight MVVM ListBoxItem IsSelected

    - by Lee
I have a collection of ViewModels bound to a ListBox. I am trying to bind the IsSelected properties of each together. In WPF it works by setting the style: <Style TargetType="{x:Type ListBoxItem}"> <Setter Property="IsSelected" Value="{Binding Path=IsSelected, Mode=TwoWay}" /> </Style> This does not work in Silverlight. How can I accomplish this?

  • How can I swap WCF deserializer from configuration

    - by JohnIdol
I have a problem with WCF deserialization where the client hangs on the response for more than a minute. I'd like to try to swap different deserializers and see if it affects the behavior. Can I swap in/out DataContract/Xml serializers (are there any others?) from configuration, and if so can I do that with any binding, or is that out of control once the service reference is imported? Any help appreciated!

  • WPF - ListBox ignores Style When ItemsSource is bound

    - by Andy T
    Hi, I have created styled a ListBox in WPF so that it is rendered as a checkbox list. When I populate the ListBox's items manually, the styling works perfectly. However, when I instead bind the ItemsSource of the ListBox to a static resource (an ItemsControl containing the required items), the styling is completely dropped. Here's the style: <Style x:Key="CheckBoxListStyle" TargetType="ListBox"> <Style.Resources> <Style TargetType="ListBoxItem"> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="ListBoxItem"> <Grid Margin="2"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto" /> <ColumnDefinition /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding IsSelected, RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Mode=TwoWay}"/> <ContentPresenter Grid.Column="1" Margin="2,0,0,0" /> </Grid> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> </Style.Resources> <Setter Property="ItemsPanel"> <Setter.Value> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <WrapPanel Orientation="Vertical" /> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> <Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="0" /> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent" /> </Style> Here's the code for the ListBox that shows the style correctly: <ListBox x:Name="ColumnsList" Grid.Column="0" Grid.Row="0" Style="{StaticResource CheckBoxListStyle}" BorderThickness="1"> <ListBox.Items> <ListBoxItem>Test</ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem>Test2</ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem>Test3</ListBoxItem> </ListBox.Items> </ListBox> Here's the code for the ListBox that ignores the style: <ListBox x:Name="ColumnsList2" Grid.Column="0" Grid.Row="0" Style="{StaticResource CheckBoxListStyle}" BorderThickness="1" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource Test1}, Path=Items}"> </ListBox> Hoping someone can help - I'm pretty new to all this and have tried everything I can think of, but everything I've read leads me to believe that setting ItemsSource should have the same outcome as setting the items manually, so I can't see any reason why this would not work. Thanks, AT

  • Open Source ASP.NET Contact Management Application?

    - by davemackey
I'm considering building a Church Management System (ChMS), essentially a CRM, but specifically tailored for churches. I've looked at several existing CRM and open source ChMS solutions but have not been satisfied with any of them. Before I start writing something from the ground up - I was wondering if anyone was aware of an open source asp.net application that might be a good fit for this project? Particularly, the application needs to perform CRUD and optimally allow for dynamic user-based creation/editing of fields associated with contacts etc.

  • Reflection: Get FieldInfo from PropertyInfo

    - by Ed Woodcock
Hi guys. I'm doing some dynamic code generation using Reflection, and I've come across a situation where I need to get the backing field of a property (if it has one) in order to use its FieldInfo object. Now, I know you can use .IsDefined(typeof(CompilerGeneratedAttribute), false); on a FieldInfo to discover whether it's autogenerated, so I assume there's a similar thing for Properties which auto-generate fields? Cheers, Ed

  • Sorting XML generated by Castor

    - by Java Guy
Hello, I am using Castor for XML Binding.. We need to sort the XML based on two different fields. Is there way we can specify the sort order in castor while marshalling? Which will be a better approach to do this sorting, if castor don't have this feature.

  • XNA - 2D Tile Lighting

    - by Cyral
Im adding lighting to my 2D Tile based game. I found the link http://blog.josack.com/2011/07/xna-2d-dynamic-lighting.html useful, but the way its done it dosent support collision. What Id like is some help or links as I want one that can have -always lit up light points -collision (If the light ray hits a block, then dim the next block by whatever amount until its dark) Im a noob at this stuff, but ive been searching around for quite a while but no luck (I did find Catalin's tutorial, but it seemed abit advanced for me)
