  • Using Ghostscript in a Webapplication (PDF Thumbnails)

    Hello, i am using the ghostscriptsharp wrapper for c# and ghostscript. I want to generate thumbnails out of pdf-files. Further Information on the sample-code are given here. There are different Methods imported form the ghostscript-c-dll "gsdll32.dll". [DllImport("gsdll32.dll", EntryPoint = "gsapi_new_instance")] private static extern int CreateAPIInstance(out IntPtr pinstance, IntPtr caller_handle); [DllImport("gsdll32.dll", EntryPoint = "gsapi_init_with_args")] private static extern int InitAPI(IntPtr instance, int argc, IntPtr argv); //...and so on I am using the GhostscriptWrapper for generating the thumbnails in a webapplication (.net 2.0). This class uses the methods imported above. protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e){ GhostscriptWrapper.GeneratePageThumb("c:\\sample.pdf", "c:\\sample.jpg", 1, 100, 100); } When i debug the Web-Application in Visual Studio 2008 by hitting key "F5" it works fine (a new instance of webserver is generated). When i create a WindowsForm Application it works too. The thumbnails get generated. When i access the application with the webbrowser directly (http://localhoast/mywebappliation/..) it doesn't work. No thumbnails are generated. But there is also no exception thrown. I placed the gsdll32.dll in the system32-folder of windows xp. The Ghostscript Runtime is installed too. I have given full access in the IIS-Webproject (.Net 2.0). Does anybody know why i can't access Ghostscript from my webapplication? Are there any security-issues for accessing dll-files on the IIS-Server? Greetings Klaus

    I upgraded my MVC Application using MSChart to MVC 2 and have ended up with broken image links for the charts.   • EDM -> POCO -> WCF (.NET4) But transferring Collections causes IsReadOnly set to TRUE

    Ok, this may sound a little 'unorthodox', but...using VS2010 and the new POCO t4 template for Entity Framework (http://tinyurl.com/y8wnkt2), I can generate nice POCO's. I can then use these POCO's (as DTO's) in a WCF service essentially going from EDM all the way through to the client. Kinda what this guys is doing (http://tinyurl.com/yb4bslv), except everything is generated automatically. I understand that an entity and a DTO 'should' be different, but in this case, I'm handling client and server, and there's some real advantages to having the DTO in the model and automatically generated. My problem is, that when I transfer an entity that has a relationship, the client generated collection (ICollection) has the read-only value set, so I can't manipulate that relationship. For example, retrieving an existing Order, I can't add a product to the Products collection client-side...the Products collection is read-only. I would prefer to do a bunch of client side 'order-editing' and then send the updated order back rather than making dozens of server round trips (eg AddProductToOrder(product)). I'd also prefer not to have a bunch of thunking between Entity and DTO. So all-in-all this looks good to me...except for the read-only part. Is there a solution, or is this too much against the SOA grain?

  • "Access is denied" JavaScript error when trying to access the document object of a programmatically-

    I have project in which I need to create an <iframe> element using JavaScript and append it to the DOM. After that, I need to insert some content into the <iframe>. It's a widget that will be embedded in third-party websites. I don't set the "src" attribute of the <iframe> since I don't want to load a page; rather, it is used to isolate/sandbox the content that I insert into it so that I don't run into CSS or JavaScript conflicts with the parent page. I'm using JSONP to load some HTML content from a server and insert it in this <iframe>. I have this working fine, with one serious exception - if the document.domain property is set in the parent page (which it may be in certain environments in which this widget is deployed), Internet Explorer (probably all versions, but I've confirmed in 6, 7, and 8) gives me an "Access is denied" error when I try to access the document object of this <iframe> I've created. It doesn't happen in any other browsers I've tested in (all major modern ones). This makes some sense, since I'm aware that Internet Explorer requires you to set the document.domain of all windows/frames that will communicate with each other to the same value. However, I'm not aware of any way to set this value on a document that I can't access. Is anyone aware of a way to do this - somehow set the document.domain property of this dynamically created <iframe>? Or am I not looking at it from the right angle - is there another way to achieve what I'm going for without running into this problem? I do need to use an <iframe> in any case, as the isolated/sandboxed window is crucial to the functionality of this widget.   • Matplotlib pick event order for overlapping artists

    I'm hitting a very strange issue with matplotlib pick events. I have two artists that are both pickable and are non-overlapping to begin with ("holes" and "pegs"). When I pick one of them, during the event handling I move the other one to where I just clicked (moving a "peg" into the "hole"). Then, without doing anything else, a pick event from the moved artist (the peg) is generated even though it wasn't there when the first event was generated. My only explanation for it is that somehow the event manager is still moving through artist layers when the event is processed, and therefore hits the second artist after it is moved under the cursor. So then my question is - how do pick events (or any events for that matter) iterate through overlapping artists on the canvas, and is there a way to control it? I think I would get my desired behavior if it moved from the top down always (rather than bottom up or randomly). I haven't been able to find sufficient enough documentation, and a lengthy search on SO has not revealed this exact issue.     Hi, I'm writing a client that calls a number of WCF webservices (written externallyt to my company) that are very similar in structure. The design I was hoping to use is to manually build the SOAP message from XML chunks that are stored in a database and then processed through a generic web service handler class. I have access to the WSDL's for each webservice and example working XML. The design approach is such that we can easily add to the message dynamically, hence the reason for not using the auto generated proxy classes I am basically at the last part now with the entire SOAP message constructed but am getting a SOAP fault security error returned. I have used fiddler to compare the message I'm sending with one that is sent using the normal (far simpler...) WCF generated proxy classes and can't see any difference apart from the id attribute of the Usertoken element in the SOAP header. This is where my lack of experience in this area isn't helping. I think this is because the id is generated automatically (presumably because we're using https). My question is how do I generate this programatically? I have searched for hours online but the majority of solutions are either using the proxy classes or not over https. I have briefly looked at WCE but aware this is replaced by WCF now so don't want to waste time looking into this if it's not the solution. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I can post some code examples when I'm back in work if it will help but the method I'm using is very straightforward and only using XElements and such like at the moment (as we're using linq to sql). thanks, Andy

    I have a existing parent-child relationship I am trying to map in Fluent Nhibernate: [RatingCollection] -- [Rating] Rating Collection has: ID (database generated ID) Code Name Rating has: ID (database generated id) Rating Collection ID Code Name I have been trying to figure out which permutation of HasMany makes sense here. What I have right now: HasMany<Rating>(x => x.Ratings) .WithTableName("Rating") .KeyColumnNames.Add("RatingCollectionId") .Component(c => { c.Map(x => x.Code); c.Map(x => x.Name); ); It works from a CRUD perspective but because it's a bag it ends up deleting the rating contents any time I try to do a simple update / insert to the Ratings property. What I want is an indexed collection but not using the database generated ID (which is in the six digit range right now). Any thoughts on how I could get a zero-based indexed collection (so I can go entity.Ratings[0].Name = "foo") which would allow me to modify the collection without deleting/reinserting it all when persisting?

  • Reusing service proxies

    I have a set of webservices that I connect to using Silverlight Client. I use proxies generated by "Add service reference" or SLSVCUTIL.exe tool to connect to this service. So far, I have only used one single service. Now I want to use another service on the same server. The problem is that, first service generated set of proxy classes for me, and second service will reuse the same set of classes (plus extra services/classes), e.g. CustomerService.SaveCustomer(Customer customer); OrderService.CheckCustomerLevel(Customer customer); The problem is when I add reference to the second service, I can not reuse the same namespace for the second one (VS error), and when I use a different namespace, the generated classes, although are essentially the same, reside in different namespace, hence different and I end up with two Customer classes in two different namespaces. Anyway around this? I just neeed to have two set of services, reusing the Customer class. I have already tried "reuse types in assembly / all assemblies" check mark when generating proxy classes, but it seems to have no effect. any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi, I am trying to use the pchart package (over php) to build (and directly display) graphs/charts. At this time, I am just trying to run their provided example (Example1.php), where I just have replaced the final: $Test-Render("example1.png"); by $Test-Stroke(); But When I do this, I get:" The image cannot be displayed because it contains errors" on the browser. If I leave the original "$Test-Render(...)" the generated image is OK. (but not sent) I have read that there is (was?) an issue with mozilla/Firefox browsers regarding images being required twice and the REFER URL, but when I browse at the pchart home page, I can use their "sanboxes" and get the result of my tests directly displayed on my browser (http://pchart.sourceforge.net/demo.php). ... So their must be a way (or a nice work around) to send the generated graphs directely to the browser successfuly. If your answer is to generate the image (i.e. use Render) and then send it afterwards, please but accurate on how to do this (how do I destroy the generated files automaticaly, permissions...) I am new to this, sorry advance if it's obvious...;-)

We have an issue in our Silverlight application which uses WCF and Entity Framework, where we need to trap the event whenever a user shuts down the application by closing the web page or the browser instead of closing the silverlight application. This is in order to verify if any changes have been made, in which case we would ask the user if he wants to save before leaving. We were able to accomplish the part which consists in trapping the closing of the web page: we wrote some code in the application object that have the web page call a method in the silverlight application object. The problem starts when in this method, we do an asynchroneous call to the Web Service to verify if changes have occured (IsDirty). We are using a DispatcherTimer to check for the return of the asynchroneous call. The problem is that the asynchroneous call never completes (in debug mode, it never ends up stepping into the _BfrServ_Customer_IsDirtyCompleted method), while it used to work fine before we added this new functionality. You will find belowthe code we are using. I am new to writing timers in combination with asynchroneous call so I may be doing something wrong but I cannot figure out what.     Objective-c/cocoa offers a form of binding where a control's properties (ie text in a textbox) can be bound to the property of an object. I am trying to duplicate this functionality in C# w/ .Net 3.5. I have created the following very simple class in the file MyClass.cs: class MyClass { private string myName; public string MyName { get { return myName; } set { myName = value; } } public MyClass() { myName = "Allen"; } } I also created a simple form with 1 textbox and 1 button. I init'd one instance of Myclass inside the form code and built the project. Using the DataSource Wizard in Vs2008, i selected to create a data source based on object, and selected the MyClass assembly. This created a datasource entity. I changed the databinding of the textbox to this datasource; however, the expected result (that the textbox's contents would be "allen") was not achieved. Further, putting text into the textbox is not updating the name property of the object. I know i'm missing something fundamental here. At some point i should have to tie my instance of the MyClass class that i initialized inside the form code to the textbox, but that hasn't occurred. Everything i've looked at online seems to gloss over using DataBinding with an object (or i'm missing the mark entirely), so any help is great appreciated. ----Edit--- Utilizing what i learned by the answers, i looked at the code generated by Visual Studio, it had the following: this.myClassBindingSource.DataSource = typeof(BindingTest.MyClass); if i comment that out and substitute : this.myClassBindingSource.DataSource = new MyClass(); i get the expected behavior. Why is the default code generated by VS like it is? Assuming this is more correct than the method that works, how should i modify my code to work within the bounds of what VS generated?

Generated files with names: uqsModel.Designer.cs uqsModel.edmx This files are located on App_Code folder. And my web app work normally. And when page redirrects to any web page server side code fails. And problem: Unable to load the specified metadata resource. Some idea, please.

    The code metrics analyser in Visual Studio, as well as the code metrics power tool, report the number of lines of code in the TestMethod method of the following code as 8. At the most, I would expect it to report lines of code as 3. Further info After a little more digging I've found that removing the out parameter from the Test method and updating the test code causes LOC to be reported as 2, which I believe is correct. The addition of out causes the jump, so it's not because of braces or attributes. Decompiling the DLL with dotPeek reveals a fair amount of additional code generated because of the out parameter which could be considered 8 LOC, but removing the parameter and decompiling also reveals generated code, which could be considered 5 LOC, so it's not simply a matter of VS counting compiler generated code (which I don't believe it should do anyway).

  • Amazon EC2 and jbossws

    Hi - I've deployed a webservice to a Jboss instance running on Amazon EC2. The webservice works fine locally, but when I deploy on EC2, and go to the /jbossws/services page the Endpoint Address for the webservice is the private DNS of the ec2 instance (domU-X-X-X-X etc...), not the public dns (which I would like it to be). I've tried loading the wsdl by changing the private hostname to the public IP; that works, but when I try to call any of the operations I get a HostNotFoundException, I'm guessing due to the fact that the generated wsdl has the stanza: <service name='XXXService'> <port binding='tns:XXXBinding' name='XXXPort'> <soap:address location='http://domU-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX.compute-1.internal:8080/xx/xx/xx'/> </port> </service> where http://domU-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX.compute-1.internal is the internal dns of the ec2 instance. The wsdl is auto generated - Is there a JAXB annotation I can use so that I can force the generated wsdl to use the public dns of the EC2 instance? Many thanks -

    I'm trying to code ASP.NET MVC views (WebForms view engine) in F#. I can already write regular ASP.NET WebForms ASPX and it works ok, e.g. <%@ Page Language="F#" %> <% for i in 1..2 do %> <%=sprintf "%d" i %> so I assume I have everything in my web.config correctly set up. However, when I make the page inherit from ViewPage: <%@ Page Language="F#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage" %> I get this error: Compiler Error Message: FS0442: Duplicate method. The abstract method 'ProcessRequest' has the same name and signature as an abstract method in an inherited type. The problem seems to be this piece of code generated by the F# CodeDom provider: [<System.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCodeAttribute>] abstract ProcessRequest : System.Web.HttpContext -> unit [<System.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCodeAttribute>] default this.ProcessRequest (context:System.Web.HttpContext) = let mutable context = context base.ProcessRequest(context) |> ignore when I change the Page directive to use C# instead, the generated code is: [System.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCodeAttribute()] public new virtual void ProcessRequest(System.Web.HttpContext context) { base.ProcessRequest(context); } which of course works fine and AFAIK is not semantically the same as the generated F# code.   • Run a .java file using ProcessBuilder

    I'm a novice programmer working in Eclipse, and I need to get multiple processes running (this is going to be a simulation of a multi-computer system). My initial hackup used multiple threads to multiple classes, but now I'm trying to replace the threads with processes. From my reading, I've gleaned that ProcessBuilder is the way to go. I have tried many many versions of the input you see below, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to properly use it. I am trying to run the .java files I previously created as classes (which I have modified). I eventually just made a dummy test.java to make sure my process is working properly - its only function is to print that it ran. My code for the two files are below. Am I using ProcessBuilder correctly? Is this the correct way to read the output of my subprocess? Any help would be much appreciated.
