• Is there a way to localize input type="date" in HTML5

  I know that at the time of this writing only Opera supports a browser UI for <input type="date" name="mydate"> and maybe my attempts to localize this field have been met with frustration because niceties like localization have not yet been included in their implementation, but I don't even see mention of it in the HTML5 spec. Is there a way that localization should be specified? Should I do lang="fr" on a parent element? Some notes on the implementation of the site in question: Localization (language) is explicitly picked by the user because they are managing data in multiple languages and it is not reasonable to expect that the user's browser chrome is in the language being viewed or that the browser is providing desired language request headers. I want to be sure that if the page is rendered in French that the date picker provided by browser chrome shows options that make sense for French language. The plan is to fall back to jQueryUI for browsers that do not support type="date", I will use the detection mechanism provided in Dive into HTML 5

• Strange margin-behaviour with Sifr spans in link (screens)

  I'm making a menu and it's supposed to look like picture nr 1 on this link. However, at this moment, it looks like picture nr 2. There's no logic in this behaviour, since all three elements have the same css-attributes. Moreover, let's change the word "Reiki" to "Psychotherapie" and see what happens... (picture nr 3) For some reason the word "Reiki" ignores certain attributes. This is not a problem when Sifr is turned off. I guess I'll need some extra CSS to solve this (messing with paddings, heights or margins on that specific element doesn't give any result. It just won't budge). Unless someone knows a more elegant solution?

• How do I find the previous/default value of a radio button in JS?

  I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I figured I'd ask before clubbing togehter an ugly solution. What I have is a group of radio buttons and I want to trigger a function if the radio button value is changed. For example say there are three buttons X Y and Z with Y default selected. If a user clicks on an unselected button (i.e. X or Z) then the function gets triggered but if he/she clicks on Y (which is already selected) nothing happens. Naturally the best solution would be to fire the function on an onchange event but IE6 doesn't fire onchange until the focus is no longer on the element which is not satisfactory. So is there a way to know what the previous value of the radio button was or at least what its default value is? I could easily create an array of default values and check against that but I'm trying to reduce the overhead. Please no jQuery suggestions ;)

  Hello guys, I have a generic list. Some elements of this list belong to a parent element. I retrieved all these elements from a database and i want to recursively build a tree with them. • Working with Form Array's in Coldfusion?

  I have no idea how to handle this in coldfusion 9, I have a form being submitted (POST) with element checkboxes, called items[]. When I do a <cfdump var="#form#" /> no-problem, I get all the items shown with the proper names like items[] eg: struct ITEMS[] 13,14 FIELDNAMES ITEMS[] however doing a <cfdump var="#form.items[]#" /> results in an error. How do I access the CF9 field values? Somehow loop through it? I cannot seem to do anything with the array to get the id's out of it? Thoughts, I'm kindof stumped and coldfusion isn't the easiest language to find examples / references on the net ;) Is there a correct way to deal with this? I need to get the ID's out of there so I can referenc what lines were checked in the form, so I can follow up with an action. Thanks!

I'm interested in common causes of slow running jQuery and how to optimize these cases. We have a good amount of jQuery/JavaScript performing actions on our page... and performance can really suffer with a large number off elements. What are some obvious performance pitfalls you know of with jQuery? What are some general optimizations a jQuery-er can do to squeeze every last bit of performance out of his/her scripts?   Hi! I'm searched adobe and android developers sites, but can't find any details on this. Is it possible to use Flash as a part of my app? E.g. like a widget/GUI element? Or it's integrated in browser only and can't be simple accessible? I know, Adobe AIR apps are supported as standalone .apk. So it must be some API/SDK (from Google) to connect with Flash player. Is there any details, how to program it (more clear: launch swf from my app and interact with it)? Thank you!

  Is there any method that is called or event that is dispatched right before an Element is cleaned up by the JavaScript garbage collector? In Perl I would write: package MyObj; sub new {bless {}} sub DESTROY {print "cleaning up @_\n"} and then later: { my $obj = MyObj->new; # do something with obj } # scope ends, and assuming there are no external references to $obj, # the DESTROY method will be called before the object's memory is freed My target platform is Firefox (and I have no need to support other browsers), so if there is only a Firefox specific way of doing this, that is fine. And a little background: I am writing the Perl module XUL::Gui which serves as a bridge between Perl and Firefox, and I am currently working on plugging a few memory leaks related to DOM Elements sticking around forever, even after they are gone and no more references remain on the Perl side. So I am looking for ways to either figure out when JavaScript Elements will be destroyed, or a way to force JavaScript to cleanup an object.

• Wrapping pre-made elements using GWT?

  Hi, I've been working with GWT for awhile, I can't find a way to integrate it with a preexisting website which is a real downer. My page content is already generated for me using jsp, like: <div id='A'></div> <div id='B'></div> etc. there is no way for me to do something like this though: public void onModuleLoad() { SimplePanel spA = new SimplePanel( Document.getElementById("A")); spA.add(new Label("hello")); SimplePanel spB = new SimplePanel( Document.getElementById("B")); spB.setWidth("200px"); etc .. } seems like there's no way to just wrap a pre-existing element. Is this true, or am I missing how to do this? I need be able to wrap a bunch of elements like this, to manipulate them later on. I see TextBox, Button, a few other classes have wrap() methods, however nothing like that exists for elements, Thanks

  Hi! I'm learning HTML and I wanted to practice by recreating a invoice sent to me by Electronics Expo.   Usually, when a View requires a lot of bindings, or some UI Elements like a Bing Map, it takes a "while" to load (like between half a second and a second). I don't want a delay between a "tap" action (like tapping an element on a ListBox) and the navigation action (displaying a new page). I don't mind displaying the page progressively. For example, for a Bing Map, I don't mind displaying a black page with only a title, and a second later, having the Map appear. What are the best practices ?   Hi. I found lots of MinMax Heap implementations, that were storing data in an array. It is realy easy to implement, that is way I am looking for something different. I want to create a MinMax Heap using only elements of the Heap with pointers to left child and right child (and afcourse a key to compare). So the Heap have only pointer to the root object (min level), and a root object have a pointer to his children (max level) and so on. I know how to insert a new object (finding a proper path by using binary represenation of int depending on Heap size), but I don't know how to implement the rest (push up (down) the element, find parent or grandparent). • C++ MFC add combo box string item from a widget ID

  I've added a combo box in the gui editor in MSVC 2010 pro in my MFC project. I have a list of strings I am grabbing from an external source and want to add them to my combo box. I've searched for a while, and every post seems to suggest I need to use the CComboBox class, however, I have no idea how to get the class variable from the resource ID of the combobox element in the gui editor. In summary, how do I add a string to my combo box, either using a macro (like CB_ADDSTRING(RESOURCE_ID, "my string");) or using CComboBOx (something like CComboBox::GetObject(RESOURCE_ID)->AddString("blah");). I do not do much win32 api/mfc programming, and just started fiddling around with it.

• Unable to return large result set ORA-22814

  Hello All I am encountering an issue when I am trying to load a large result set using a range query in Oracle 10g. When I try a smaller range (1 to 100), it works but when I try a larger range(1 and 1000), I get the following error "ORA-22814: attribute or element value is larger than specified in type" error. I have a basic UDT (PostComments_Type) and I have tried using both a VArray and a Table type of PostComments_Type but that hasn't made a difference.   Does anyone know of a jQuery plugin that has 'helpers' or extensions like those found in the YAHOO.lang namespace? I have in mind functions such as: isNull isDefined isString isFunction I would also appreciate the same kind of thing for strings and arrays, such as Contains, StartsWith (I know these are easy to write, I'm just looking for a plugin that encompasses them all). It's not in the YAHOO.lang namespace but also form related extensions- determining a radiobox's value (from the one checked), a form element's type in a friendly name. Specifically a plugin with fluent API rather than selector based such as $("input[@type=radio][@checked]") Again I'm aware they're easy to implement but I don't want to reinvent the wheel.

• small string optimization for vector?

  I know several (all?) STL implementations implement a "small string" optimization where instead of storing the usual 3 pointers for begin, end and capacity a string will store the actual character data in the memory used for the pointers if sizeof(characters) <= sizeof(pointers). I am in a situation where I have lots of small vectors with an element size <= sizeof(pointer). I cannot use fixed size arrays, since the vectors need to be able to resize dynamically and may potentially grow quite large. However, the median (not mean) size of the vectors will only be 4-12 bytes. So a "small string" optimization adapted to vectors would be quite useful to me. Does such a thing exist? I'm thinking about rolling my own by simply brute force converting a vector to a string, i.e. providing a vector interface to a string. Good idea?

• Android Dropdown (Select) CSS

  I'm currently writing some stylesheets for mobile browsers and have come across a strange issue in the Android browser. When changing the font-size CSS attribute of a text box the box gets bigger to accomodate the larger text. Doing this on a select box however does not change the size of the select box, but the text still gets larger (actually overlapping the top and bottom of the rendered form element). Can anyone tell me if it's possible to increase the height of select boxes in the Android browser. Or if not point me in the direction of a list of CSS attributes that can be applied to them.   How can I hide the New / Actions / Upload / Settings menus within a list or document library in SharePoint? Note that I need to be able to hide these menus for a particular list definition (template) and not just all lists or document libraries. One possible way that I know of is to register a , and set the ControlClass element to a control that inherits from WebControl.
