    From my understanding creating an application that runs on multiple architectures requires virtualization, and virtualization reduces performance since it creates a layer of abstraction. With Windows 8 supporting both Intel and ARM architectures should we expect slower performance with a WinRT app versus a .Net app running on an Intel device? Also, will WinRT support database connectivity and active directory access?

I need to run Firefox but it seems like a lot of my clients are still running versions of Firefox 3 (is this an operating system issue? Doesn't Firefox auto-update?) so I need to run 3 plus the latest version to troubleshoot some css issues...

    As part of research I am doing into functional concurrent programming, I am looking to develop a prototype business application (or otherwise), that requires and supports parallelism. So I will first develop this application in java 7, followed by scala and then clojure while demonstrating the concurrent support in each language. However, I am a little short on suitable ideas and therefore i'm hoping I can get some good, interesting ideas on this thread. Thanks!

    I have a 12 year old BC45 compiled 32 bit GUI utility that fails to load on XP and 2003 with a GPF. Worked find under 95, NT, 2000 and didn't expect anything to be different for other OSes. But it was reported this week and looking at our support logs, there were other reports last year on this as well. Testing it on XP and 2003 confirms this. I think it is related to either comctl32.dll, comdlg32...
