• Apache internal test servers

  I want to build a test system in the office. On one box I will install XAMPP. I will put a website that I want to test on that box. Now I do not want it connected to the Internet. So my plan is to use a reverse proxy to resolve things like ads and other external links. So I am thinking of using mod_proxy for that. Now my question is, How many boxes do I need? 1 for Xampp, 1 for mod_proxy and 1 for the server where mod proxy redirects them to. Total of three. But maybe I could do it with less. Can I run Mod_proxy on the first box? Is there a better way? Thanks

• DFSR - What happens when one server gets maxed out?

  What happens when one server in a DFSR pool maxes out its disk space? I am at the very beginning of my research in DFS/R and this struck me. I plan on implementing this on one server with RAID1 (160GB) and on another server with a RAID5 (500GB). What happens when my 1st server with 160GB disks, run out of space? Will it spill over to the 500GB server? Is it advisable at all to even have the RAID1 server in the DFSR pool? Because the RAID1 server is also my Domain Controller. Hope you guys can help me out here (OS are Win2k3R2)

  Hi, I'm new to this site but have found the articles and feedback very useful. We have a Server Room which our Organisation owns and controls, yet there are several thirs party companies that have open access to this room. As such, we have been asked to put together a protocol paper that stipulates the standards that we expect to be adhered to when working in this room. Other than the monitoring of UPS loads, Air Cooling functionality, alarm systems etc, does any one have any guidance on the kind of issues that need to be documented to make this protocol all encompassing? I'm thinking along the lines of not leaving cardboard or other combustibles in the room, not having food and drink in the room, not altering the fabric of the building by drilling through walls etc? Many thanks in advance for any guidance provided.

• Is it possible to install Windows Server 2012 on a Dell PowerEdge with PERC S100 card?

  According to Dell's own website, the Windows Server 2012 media driver "inbox" does not contain drivers for the Perc S100 controller that is in a Dell PowerEdge T110 II server we'd like to evaluate with Server 2012. I have found drivers only for Server 2008 R2, which is what the server is currently running. Is it possible to upgrade this server? (Booting up the Server 2012 DVD image leads to the expected result that it can not locate the system's hard drives or its hard drive controller card, as the drivers for the PERC S100 are not on the installation DVD image.)

I have also tried using the web platform installer to install the express version instead but the SQL Server Installation fails with that also. The management studio installs fine but not the server. I have checked to make sure that the Windows Installer is started and it is. Cant seem to find an answer for this anywhere as all previous reported issues appear to be related to XP. I did have the express edition installed on the machine previously but uninstalled it to upgrade to the full version, I wish I hadn't now. Can anyone kindly offer any advice or point me in the right direction to stop me going insane with this? Any advice will be appreciated. Its almost equivalent to a small server, but right now we're in need of a server which is why I am planning to keep my machine as well as a server into a single PC. I've used VMware Workstation to create a powerful Windows Server 2008 within my PC and I want to attach it to my Network Switch through the same PC where I am hosting it. I want to use it almost like a physical server with an IP address and everything so that I can connect from one Pc to the Server directly or my applications can connect to Server straight with the IP address. Now we have hosting for him, which is wonderful: it's reliable and fast, offers unlimited space and databases BUT it only offers 10GB in bandwidth. The videos could easily be placed on his server (unlimited space) but the bandwidth is a real problem. Now I am wondering if he would purchase external hosting for his videos, and people would want to download them, woould this still eat up all his available bandwidth in no time, because the download request would go via his site, or is there a way to circumvent this?

• Do I need to transfer Server license CALs to new Domain Controller during AD transition?

  I have an old Server 2003 domain controller I'm ready to decommission. I notice in Server 2003 there is a Licensing module under Administrative Tools that seems to manage and track user CAL's for the domain controller. I don't see this on my newly promoted Server 2008 domain controller, nor do I see any roles to add it. Does this need to be transferred to my new Server 2008 domain controller or will it all happen when the old server is decommissioned? I've already transferred all my Terminal Server licenses to the new server. Thank you!

• What is the scope of CONTEXT_INFO in SQL Server?

  I am using CONTEXT_INFO to pass a username to a delete trigger for the purposes of an audit/history table. I'm trying to understand the scope of CONTEXT_INFO and if I am creating a potential race condition. Each of my database tables has a stored proc to handle deletes. The delete stored proc takes userId as an parameter, and sets CONTEXT_INFO to the userId. My delete trigger then grabs the CONTEXT_INFO and uses that to update an audit table that indicates who deleted the row(s). The question is, if two deletes sprocs from different users are executing at the same time, can CONTEXT_INFO set in one of the sprocs be consumed by the trigger fired by the other sproc? I've seen this article http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189252.aspx but I'm not clear on the scope of sessions and batches in SQL Server which is key to the article being helpful! I'd post code, but short on time at the moment. I'll edit later if this isn't clear enough. Thanks in advance for any help.

• How can I turn a column name into a result value in SQL Server?

  I have a table which has essentially boolean values in a legacy database. The column names are stored as string values in another table so I need to match the column names of one table to a string value in another table. I know there has to be a way to do this directly with SQL in SQL Server but it is beyond me. My initial thought was to use PIVOT but it is not enabled by default and enabling it would likely be a difficult process with pushing that change to the Production database. I would prefer to use what is enabled by default. I am considering using COALESCE to translate the boolean value to the string that value that I need. This will be a manual process. I think I will also use a table variable to insert the results of the first query into that variable and use those results to do the second query. I still have the problem that the columns are on a single row so I wish I could easily pivot the values to put the column names in the result set as strings. But if I could easily do that I could easily write the query with a sub-select. Any tips are welcome.

• How can I stop SQL Server Management Studio replacing 'SELECT *' with the column list ?

  SQL Server Mgmt Studio is driving me crazy. If I create a view and SELECT '*' from a table, it's all OK and I can save the view. Looking at the SQL for the view (eg.by scripting a CREATE) reveals that the 'SELECT *' really is saved to the view's SQL. But as soon as I reopen the view using the GUI (right click modify), SELECT * is replaced with a column list of all the columns in the table. How can I stop Management Studio from doing this ? I want my 'SELECT *' to remain just that. Perhaps it's just the difficulty of googling 'SELECT *' that prevented me from finding anything remotely relevant to this (i did put it in double quotes). Please, I am highly experienced in Transact-SQL, so please DON'T give me a lecture on why I shouldn't be using SELECT *. I know all the pros and cons and I do use it at times. It's a language feature, and like all language features can be used for good or evil (I emphatically do NOT agree that it is never appropriate to use it). Edit: I'm giving Marc the answer, since it seems it is not possible to turn this behaviour off. Problem is considered closed. I note that Enterprise Manager did no similar thing. The workaround is to either edit SQL as text, or go to a product other than Managment Studio. Or constantly edit out the column list and replace the * every time you edit a view. Sigh.

  I've got an asp.net application running on a windows 2008 64 bit server that gives an error after printing a crystal report. The server has CR 2008 runtime sp2 installed and views fine. When printing from the print button of the CR viewer the print dialog appears and prints correctly but throws the following error message after printing. "An error occurred on the server. Printing will be stopped. Would you like to view the error information" there is a yes or no option that points to an empty html file called PrintControlError.html. Other then this issue I've got no other troubles.

This hasn't changed anything. Do I need to configure SQL Server 2005 Express differently for this environment? Is this error logged anywhere other than just the output from SQLCMD? What could cause this error? Could Vista security policies cause this? I don’t have access to the computer (the customer is doing the testing) so I can’t examine the box myself. TIA

• Eclipse Could not Delete error

  Hello I'm working on a project with Eclipse and by now everything was fine, but last time I've tried building it, it returned the error "The project was not built due to "Could not delete '/Torpedo/bin/bin'.". Fix the problem, then try refreshing this project and building it since it may be inconsistent Torpedo Unknown Java Problem" and it deleted my bin folder which stores all the images and stuff needed for the program. (Fortunately I had a backup). I've tried googling it and tried every solution I found, but nothing helped, and also most of them suggests to delete the folder by hand, which I can't.   Foo *oFoo = [[[Foo alloc] init] autorelease]; This is how I was taught to program in Objective C, yet the CLang error checker complains that the initial value was never read. But oFoo is an object with properties. oFoo itself has no single value. The property values are what matter. oFoo.PropertyA = 1; oFoo.PropertyB = @"Hello, World." Should I just ignore this? Is this worth fixing? What is the fix, seeing that "initial value" is meaningless in my context?

  I have a traits class that's used for printing out different character types: template <typename T> class traits { public: static std::basic_ostream<T>& tout; }; template<> std::ostream& traits<char>::tout = std::cout; template<> std::wostream& traits<unsigned short>::tout = std::wcout; gcc (g++) version 3.4.5 (yes somewhat old) is throwing an error: "expected constructor destructor or type conversion before '&' token" And I'm wondering if there's a good way to resolve this. (it's also angry about _O_WTEXT so if anyone's got some insight into that, I'd also appreciate it)

  Hi, I am making a group work in openGL, and when i try to open the file that my partner gave me i have this error: -------------- Build: Debug in CG --------------- Linking console executable: bin/Debug/CG ld: library not found for -lGL collect2: ld returned 1 exit status Process terminated with status 1 (0 minutes, 0 seconds) 0 errors, 0 warnings I've seen the same code working in his computer. Is it cause he is working in Windows? and i am working in MacOSX? I am using CodeBlocks IDE. Can anyone help me solving this?
