• Are the formatted addresses of a Google location unique?

  I want our users of a web site to be able to either search and pick an address or mark a location on a map decide how accurate this address/location is I am in the process of implementing the first part with jquery, jquery ui's autocomplete, google map, and google geocoder. For the second part I will generate a radiobutton list based on the address elements/alternatives of the first part on the client side with jquery. My concern, however, is how to convey the choices to the server side. The Google geocoder includes a number of useful metadata that I want to store. A possibility is to store the complete json object in a hidden form field, but I can't trust the users. Such a solution would enable an unfriendly insertion of spam in the data. If the addresses/locations would have a unique identifyer I could store just these and let the server refetch/evaluate the data. The alternative geonames.org web service has such ids. But are for example the formatted addresses of a Google location unique? Any tips?

• System Error when running PyQt4's loadUi()

  Hello, I'm pretty new to Qt, Python and their combinations. I'm currently writing a QGIS plugin in python (I used QtCreator 2.1 (Qt Designer 4.7) to generate a .ui-file and am now trying to use it for a Quantum GIS plugin that's written in Python 2.5 (and running in the Quantum GIS Python 2.5 console)). I am running into trouble when loading the ui-file dynamically when the program runs the loadUi() function. What throws me off is that the error occurs outside my script. Does that mean, I'm passing something wrong into it? Where does the error come in? • problem linking vba modules in MS Access 2007

  I am upgrading a database system from Access 2000 db to Access 2007, which communicates with several chemistry measuring devices(pH meter, scale, etc) via an RS 232 serial port. The first db consists of several modules containing vba code that enables the communications with the ports, as well as supports the code behind the forms in the second db. The user, or lab tech, navigates through the forms in the second db to interact with the lab devices, and also to generate the reports which display the info. from the devices. The reports are also part of the second db. The code works in Access 2000, but once I convert it to 2007, the code in the second db cannot find the function calls in the first db that dictate the progression from screen to screen. I have tried importing the modules into the second db, and I have tried linking them, but it still doesn't work. The error message is #438: "Object doesn't support this property or method." Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here is the code for the first function that is not being called correctly: Description: ' This routine is used to return to the calling form and close the active form. • Recursive Iterators

  I am having some trouble making an iterator that can traverse the following type of data structure. I have a class called Expression, which has one data member, a List<object>. This list can have any number of children, and some of those children might be other Expression objects. I want to traverse this structure, and print out every non-list object (but I do want to print out the elements of the list of course), but before entering a list, I want to return "begin nest" and after I just exited a list, I want to return "end nest". I was able to do this if I ignored the class wherever possible, and just had List<object> objects with List<object> items if I wanted a subExpression, but I would rather do away with this, and instead have an Expressions as the sublists (it would make it easier to do operations on the object. I am aware that I could use extension methods on the List<object> but it would not be appropriate (who wants an Evaluate method on their list that takes no arguments?). • Best way to track the stages of a form across different controllers - $_GET or routing

  Hi, I am in a bit of a dilemma about how best to handle the following situation. I have a long registration process on a site, where there are around 10 form sections to fill in. Some of these forms relate specifically to the user and their own personal data, while most of them relate to the user's pets - my current set up handles user specific forms in a User_Controller (e.g via methods like user/profile, user/household etc), and similarly the pet related forms are handled in a Pet_Controller (e.g pet/health). Whether or not all of these methods should be combined into a single Registration_Controller, I'm not sure - I'm open to any advice on that. Anyway, my main issue is that I want to generate a progress bar which shows how far along in the registration process each user is. As the urls in each form section can potentially be mapping to different controllers, I'm trying to find a clean way to extract which stage a person is at in the overall process. I could just use the query string to pass a stage parameter with each request, e.g user/profile?stage=1. Another way to do it potentially is to use routing - e.g the urls for each section of the form could be set up to be registration/stage/1, registration/stage/2 - then i could just map these urls to the appropriate controller/method behind the scenes. If this makes any sense at all, does anyone have any advice for me?

  I am consuming an external C# Web Service method which returns a simple calculation result object like this: [Serializable] public class CalculationResult { public string Name { get; set; } public string Unit { get; set; } public decimal? Value { get; set; } } When I add a Web Reference to this service in my ASP .NET project Visual Studio is kind enough to generate a matching class so I can easily consume and work with it. I am using Castle Windsor and I may want to plug in other method of getting a calculation result object, so I want a common class CalculationResult (or ICalculationResult) in my solution which all my objects can work with, this will always match the object returned from the external Web Service 1:1. Is there anyway I can tell my Web Service client to hydrate a particular class instead of its generated one? • close file with fopen() but file still in use

  Hi all, I've got a problem with deleting/overwriting a file using my program which is also being used(read) by my program. The problem seems to be that because of the fact my program is reading data from the file (output.txt) it puts the file in a 'in use' state which makes it impossible to delete or overwrite the file. I don't understand why the file stays 'in use' because I close the file after use with fclose(); this is my code: bool bBool = true while(bBool){ //Run myprogram.exe tot generate (a new) output.txt //Create file pointer and open file FILE* pInputFile = NULL; pInputFile = fopen("output.txt", "r"); // //then I do some reading using fscanf() // //And when I'm done reading I close the file using fclose() fclose(pInputFile); //The next step is deleting the output.txt if( remove( "output.txt" ) == -1 ){ //ERROR }else{ //Succesfull } } I use fclose() to close the file but the file remains in use by my program until my program is totally shut down. • Why would an image (the Mandelbrot) be skewed and wrap around?

  So I just wrote a little snippet to generate the Mandelbrot fractal and imagine my surprise when it came out all ugly and skewed (as you can see at the bottom). I'd appreciate a point in the direction of why this would even happen. It's a learning experience and I'm not looking for anyone to do it for me, but I'm kinda at a dead end debugging it. • Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer data output is damaged

  I use Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer to generate .xls file and it works fine until I have to deal with a large amount of data. On certain stage it just writes some nonsense chars and quits filling certain columns. However some columns are field up to the end (generally numeric data) I'm not quite sure how the xls document is formed: row by row, or col by col... Also it is obviously not an error in a string, because when i cut out some data, the error appears a little bit further.   It's possible to create an expression tree, if you declare it as such. But is it possible to get an expression tree for an ordinary chunk of code such as a method or property getter? What I'm trying to do is, let's say for an order processing system, I have a class for order items: class Item : Entity { [Cascade] public Document document { get; set; } public int line { get; set; } public Product product { get; set; } public string description { get; set; } public decimal qty { get; set; } public decimal price { get; set; } public decimal net { get { return qty * price; } } public VatCode vat_code { get; set; } } where the net value equals qty * price, so I'd like to declare it as such, either with a property or method, and then also have the framework introspect that expression so it can generate appropriate SQL for defining a corresponding calculated column in a corresponding database view. The most obvious way to do this would be to get the expression tree for a property getter or a method, but I can't find any indication how to do this, or that it is possible. (I have found a way to get a method body as a byte stream, but that's not what's desired here.) If that isn't possible, I suppose the recommended solution would be to declare something like a static field that is an expression tree, and compile/run it at run time for internal use, and also introspect as normal for SQL generation?

The issue is that while my db model ends up having a correct EftInterfaces table, with a FK to Provider_Id, the BusinessUnits table has a FK to EftInterface_Id. But, a BusinessUnit can be included in more than one EftInterface. I need a many to many relationship. A BusinessUnit can be part of many EftInterfaces, and an EftInterface can contain many BusinessUnits. How can I get CodeFirst to generate the many-to-many table?

• RMagick transparent_color deprecated? What's the alternative?

  I'm developing an app that does a fair amount of generating transparent pngs on the fly. These are used as overlays, to show areas of interest in a graphic, so they have to have transparent backgrounds. I am developing in Ruby on Rails, deploying on Heroku. What works fine in development is not working in production. I get this error when I call a drawing routine using RMagick: NotImplementedError (the `transparent_color=' method is not supported by ImageMagick 6.2.4): /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rmagick-1.15.17/lib/RMagick.rb:1691:in `transparent_color=' I'm using RMagick version 2.12.1 on the development machine, but I'm not exactly certain how to discover the version of ImageMagick that it's running, so I'm not sure if this is a case of my local code being behind or ahead. I'm hoping behind, because perhaps then there'll be a replacement for this call. Does anyone know what the fix is here? What's required to generate a transparent background, if not the call I'm using? I can't find this in the documentation: in fact, it was on a third-party site that I found mention of this capability.

  Driving me a bit nuts this one, have tried alsorts of combination's... At the top of my file I have PHP Code: if (!ISSET ($_POST['submit'])) which tests if the submit has been hit, if not displays the form.... What I'd like to be able to to is generate a link that would be processed directly by the php code that the form would normally be submitted to... (does that make sense ?) so a generated link in the code looks like .. PHP Code: echo '<a href="index.php?submit&s_type=' . $s_type . '&d_height=' . $d_height . '&j_ref=' . $j_ref .   I have a subclass of UITableView and in it I want to generate number of labels that share the same properties (font, textColor, backgroundColor, etc.). I decided the easiest way to achieve this would be to create a helper method which creates the label with some common properties set: - (UILabel *)defaultLabelWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { UILabel *label = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; label.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"Helvetica" size:14]; label.textColor = [UIColor colorWithWhite:128.0/255.0 alpha:1.0]; label.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; return label; } I use the method like this: UILabel *someLabel = [self defaultLabelWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,100,100)]; [self addSubview:someLabel]; [someLabel release]; My concern here is that when creating the label in the method it is retained, but when I then assign it to someLabel, it is retained again and I have no way of releasing the memory when created in the method. What would be best the best approach here? I fee like I have two options: Create a subclass of UILabel for the default label type. Only the 10 "official" ones are left. Actually TestContext gets overwritten, with the inital offical one, each time before each test method is called. Which is not clearly documented in MSDN. It seems to me this is very messy design+implementation. Why having TestContext.Properties as an collection, at all ? However, i'm running this from a 'RenderPartial' .net mvc page. Other jQuery code sitting within the same $(document).ready(function() { block work correctly. The form uses html helpers to generate the inputs which might complicate the process somewhat - but even so... i'm seeing correct behavior when that code's in console but not in a 'real-time' page. How do i troubleshoot this?

  Hi, I am having trouble implementing mipmapping in OpenGL. I am using OpenFrameworks and have modified the ofTexture class to support the creation and rendering of mipmaps. However, I do not see any difference. The scene I render consists of "flat, square tiles" at z=0. It's basically a 2D scene. I zoom in and out by using "glScale()" before drawing the tiles. When I zoom out, the pixels of the tile textures start to "dance", indicating (as far as I can tell) unfiltered texture look-up. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_As2Np3m8A at 25s. My question is: since I do not move the camera position, but only use scaling of the whole scene, does this mean OpenGL can not decide on the appropriate mipmap level and uses the full texture size (level 0)? • MD5CryptoServiceProvider ComputeHash Issues between VS 2003 and VS 2008

  I have a database application that generates a MD5 hash and compares the hash value to a value in our DB (SQL 2K). The original application was written in Visual Studio 2003 and a deployed version has been working for years. Recently, some new machines on the .NET framework 3.5 have been having unrelated issues with our runtime. This has forced us to port our code path from Visual Studio 2003 to Visual Studio 2008. Since that time the hash produced by the code is different than the values in the database. The original call to the function posted in code is: RemoveInvalidPasswordCharactersFromHashedPassword(Text_Scrub(GenerateMD5Hash(strPSW))) I am looking for expert guidance as to whether or not the MD5 methods have changed since VS 2K3 (causing this point of failure), or where other possible problems may be originating from. I realize this may not be the best method to hash, but utimately any changes to the MD5 code would force us to change some 300 values in our DB table and would cost us a lot of time. In addition, I am trying to avoid having to redeploy all of the functioning versions of this application. I am more than happy to post other code including the RemoveInvalidPasswordCharactersFromHashedPassword function, or our Text_Scrub if it is necessary to recieve appropriate feedback. • Visual SourceSafe (VSS): "Access to file (filename) denied" error

  Hi, can anybody help with the above SourceSafe error? I've spent hours trying to find a fix. I've also Googled the heck out of it but couldn't find a scenario matching mine, because in my case only a few files (not all) are affected. Here's what I found: only a few files in my project generate this error other files in the same directory (for example, App_Code has one of the problem files) work fine I've tried checking out from both the VSS client and Visual Studio another developer can check out the main problem file without any problems This sounds like a permission issue for my user, right? However: I found the location of one of the problem files in VSS's data directory (using VSS's naming format, as in 'fddaaaaa.a') and checked its permissions; everything looks fine and its permissions match those of other files I can check out successfully I can see no differences in the file properties between working and non-working files What else can I check? Has anyone encountered this problem before and found a solution? Thanks. P.S.: SourceGear, svn or git are not options, unfortunately. P.P.S.: Tried unsuccessfully to add tag "sourcesafe." EDIT: Hey Paddy, I tried to click 'add comment' to respond to your comment, but I'm getting a javascript error when loading this page in IE8 ("jquery undefined," etc.) so this isn't working. This is when checking out files, and yes, I've obliterated my local copy more times than I can remember. ;) EDIT 2: Thanks for the responses, guys (again I can't 'add comment' due to jQuery not loading, maybe blocked as discussed in Meta). If the problem was caused by antivirus or a bad disk, would other users still be able to check out the file(s)? That's the case here, which makes me think it's a permission issue specific to my account. However I've looked at the permissions and they match both other users' settings and settings on other files which I can check out.

• C programming - How to print numbers with a decimal component using only loops?

  I'm currently taking a basic intro to C programming class, and for our current assignment I am to write a program to convert the number of kilometers to miles using loops--no if-else, switch statements, or any other construct we haven't learned yet are allowed. So basically we can only use loops and some operators. The program will generate three identical tables (starting from 1 kilometer through the input value) for one number input using the while loop for the first set of calculations, the for loop for the second, and the do loop for the third. I've written the entire program, however I'm having a bit of a problem with getting it to recognize an input with a decimal component. Can someone point me in the right direction on this? I'd really appreciate any help! :)
