  • SendMessage (F4) fails when sending it to window

    Working with Visual Studio 6 (VC++ 6.0) I'm using an ActiveX datepicker control which I fail to show expanded by default (3006216). Alternatively I'm trying to send a keyboard message (F4) to my window to open up the control, but nothing happens when I do so... // try 1: use the standard window handle LRESULT result = ::SendMessage(m_hWnd,VK_F4, 0, 0); // try 2: use just use the SendMessage result = SendMessage(VK_F4); result is always 0 - what can I do to test/verify the message sending?   • QuestionOrAnswer model?

    My site has Listings. Users can ask Questions about listings, and the author of the listing can respond with an Answer. However, the Answer might need clarification, so I've made them recursive (you can "answer" an answer). So how do I set up the database? The way I have it now looks like this (in Django-style models): class QuestionOrAnswer(Model): user = ForeignKey(User, related_name='questions') listing = ForeignKey(Listing, related_name='questions') parent = models.ForeignKey('self', null=True, blank=True, related_name='children') message = TextField() But what bugs me is that listing is now an attribute of the answers as well (it doesn't need to be). What happens if the database gets mangled and an answer belongs to a different listing than its parent question? That just doesn't make any sense. We can separate it with polymorphism: QuestionOrAnswer user message created updated Question(QuestionOrAnswer) shipment Answer(QuestionOrAnswer) parent = ForeignKey(QuestionOrAnswer) And that ought to work, but now ever question and answer is split into 2 tables. Is it worth this overhead for clearly defined models?

  • Can't get Javac to work on Mac OS X

    I am trying to compile with javac on Snow Leopard through the command line. I have Xcode installed. I am just using a simple Hello World file, it works in Eclipse but I can't get it to work using javac. javac -version returns javac 1.6.0_17 HelloWorld.java public class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) { String message = "Welcome to Java!"; System.out.println(message); } } I type: javac HelloWorld.java and get the following error. HelloWorld.java:1: class, interface, or enum expected public class HelloWorld ^ 1 error and... javac -cp . HelloWorld.java returns the same. echo $CLASSPATH just returns blank. Thanks for the help.

  • How to signal a buffer full state between posix threads

    Hi I have two threads, the main thread 'A' is responsible for message handling between a number of processes. When thread A gets a buffer full message, it should inform thread B and pass a pointer to the buffer which thread B will then process. When thread B has finished it should inform thread A that it has finished. How do I go about implementing this using posix threads using C on linux. I have looked at conditional variables, is this the way to go? . I'm not experienced in multi threaded programming and would like some advice on the best avenue to take. Thanks

  • youtube - video upload failure - unable to convert file - encoding the video wrong?

    I am using .NET to create a video uploading application. Although it's communicating with YouTube and uploading the file, the processing of that file fails. YouTube gives me the error message, "Upload failed (unable to convert video file)." This supposedly means that "your video is in a format that our converters don't recognize..." I have made attempts with two different videos, both of which upload and process fine when I do it manually. So I suspect that my code is a.) not encoding the video properly and/or b.) not sending my API request properly.     I have recently been working with a COM+ component that processes an input XML file, and makes a number of database updates based on the supplied data. Running SQL Profiler with EventClass Exception, and User Error Message selected, I see: Exception Error: 102, Severity: 15, State: 1 User Error Message Incorrect syntax near '3'. However I really want to see the full SQL that is being supplied by the COM+ component. Is there anyway for me using Profiler, or other, for me to intercept the SQL statement that was sent to the SQL Server? This machine is using SQL Server 2005, and the COM+ object is written in Delphi.

    Hi, I am using a asp.net login control with one of my asp.net application to authenticate users. I also have roles defined as well. Some of the directories are setup so only users with ROLE "MANAGER" are able to access pages under those directories. If the user does not have "MANAGER" role, he will simply be redirect back to the login page. so my question is that for the out of box login control, is there a way to show the proper login fail error message? for user trying to login but does not have a proper ROLE assigned to them, instead of a generic error message saying "login failed" thanks.

    I have a regularexpression validator which validates a valid email. I have two buttons on my form. Submit and undo. On undo, we are reverting the page state to default submit has it validationgroup set while undo doesnot have any validationgroup and CausesValidation="false". Now when i navigate to page and enter invalid emailaddress,i directly click undo. the validator fires and stops my page from posting.however if i press tab and navigate to other control and then click undo,the validator shows error message but posts back and furthur proessing is done. This is very strange and i want the page to postback without any error message when i click undo.how to achieve it.

  • C#: When should I use TryParse?

    I understand it doesn't throw an Exception and because of that it might be sightly faster, but also, you're most likely using it to convert input to data you can use, so I don't think it's used so often to make that much of difference in terms of performance. Anyway, the examples I saw are all along the lines of an if/else block with TryParse, the else returning an error message. And to me, that's basically the same thing as using a try/catch block with the catch returning an error message. So, am I missing something? Is there a situation when this is actually useful?

    I want to run coverage from the command line, but can't seem to get NCover 1.5.8 to instrument the code. It must be possible as when I run coverage tests with TestDriven.net it works. the difference seems to be that TD.NET is able to get NCover to use framework 4.0 (you get this in the log when it runs : MESSAGE: v4.0.30319) but from the command line I can't make it (I get this in the log : MESSAGE: v2.0.50727) So how can I make NCover play nice with nunit from the commandline, like it does with TD.NET?

  • Using CreateWindow() to make additional Window on a thread - C

    Hello, I have a windows form that has a simple menu and performs a simple operation, I want to be able to create another windows form with all the functionality of a menu bar, message pump etc.. as a separate thread so I can then share the results of the operation to the second window. I.E. 1) Form A opens Form B opens as a separate thread 2)Form A performs operation 3)Form A passes results via memory to Form B 4)Form B display results I'm confused as to how to go about it, the main app runs fine but i'm not sure how to add a second window if the first one already exists. I think that using CreateWindow will allow me to make another window but again i'm not sure how to access the message pump so I can respond to certain events like WM_CREATE on the second window. I hope it makes sense. Thanks!

  • What mail storage should I choose for our web application; IMAP, key-valud store, rdbms, ...

    I have to store e-mail messages for use with our application. I have "metadata" for all messages inside a relational database, but I don't feel comfortable keeping message content (gigabytes and terabytes of email data) inside a database. I'm currently using IMAP as a storage, but I have my doubts if I choose correctly. First of all there is a problem of uidvalidity and how to keep a permanent reference to message inside IMAP. Second, I'm not sure if this is the most robust solution in terms of backup/restore strategies, corruption of store, replication ... Positive side is that I can query IMAP using the headers because the data is mostly indexed. I don't know if key-value stores are a better approach (Casandra, Tokyo cabinet, redis). How they handle storing 1KB and 50MB of data. How they prevent corruption and when corruption or device failure happens how can I repair the store.

    In a plug-in I am using NPN_Evaluate() to execute some Javascript. How can I detect wether the Javascript raises an exception? Basically I want to execute any piece of Javascript and get the result from it or detect if it raised an exception. I tried wrapping my Javascript code like this: try { // Injected Javascript code here } catch (exc) { exc; } That way the result from NPN_Evaluate() will be an NPObject* containing a property "message" with the exception message if something goes wrong. But how can I know that it is an exception? It might as well be a result from the injected Javascript code. Am I approaching this the wrong way? Can I detect an exception without catching it in Javascript and returning the exception as the result?

Each time the setup program is run on Vista, after the exe terminates, Vista produces a task dialog: This program might not have installed correctly Reinstall using recommended settings This program installed correctly Is there a function I need to call from the exe or registry entry to set, to indicate to the operating system that the program installed correctly (or to at least supress this message)?
