How do you organise multiple git repositories?

With SVN, I had a single big repository I kept on a server, and checked-out on a few machines. This was a pretty good backup system, and allowed me easily work on any of the machines. I could checkout a specific project, commit and it updated the 'master' project, or I could checkout the entire thing. Now, I have a bunch of git repositories, for various projects, several of which are on github. I also have the SVN repository I mentioned, imported via the git-svn command.. Basically, I like having all my code (not just projects, but random snippets and scripts, some things like my CV, articles I've written, websites I've made and so on) in one big repository I can easily clone onto remote machines, or memory-sticks/harddrives as backup. The problem is, since it's a private repository, and git doesn't allow checking out of a specific folder (that I could push to github as a separate project, but have the changes appear in both the master-repo, and the sub-repos) I could use the git submodule system, but it doesn't act how I want it too (submodules are pointers to other repositories, and don't really contain the actual code, so it's useless for backup) Currently I have a folder of git-repos (for example, ~/code_projects/proj1/.git/ ~/code_projects/proj2/.git/), and after doing changes to proj1 I do git push github, then I copy the files into ~/Documents/code/python/projects/proj1/ and do a single commit (instead of the numerous ones in the individual repos). Then do git push backupdrive1, git push mymemorystick etc So, the question: How do your personal code and projects with git repositories, and keep them synced and backed-up?

Observer Design Pattern - multiple event types

I'm currently implementing the Observer design pattern and using it to handle adding items to the session, create error logs and write messages out to the user giving feedback on their actions (e.g. You've just logged out!). I began with a single method on the subject called addEvent() but as I added more Observers I found that the parameters required to detail all the information I needed for each listener began to grow. I now have 3 methods called addMessage(), addStorage() and addLog(). These add data into an events array that has a key related to the event type (e.g. log, message, storage) but I'm starting to feel that now the subject needs to know too much about the listeners that are attached. My alternative thought is to go back to addEvent() and pass an event type (e.g. USER_LOGOUT) along with the data associated and each Observer maintains it's own list of event handles it is looking for (possibly in a switch statement), but this feels cumbersome. Also, I'd need to check that sufficient data had also been passed along with the event type. What is the correct way of doing this? Please let me know if I can explain any parts of this further. I hope you can help and see the problem I'm battling with.

Hi, I have an ASP.NET webform that has a listbox (lbxRegions) with multi-select option enabled. In my db, I have a table with an xml field that holds a list of regions. I need to populate the listbox with all available regions and then "check off" the list items that match the regions in the db table. The list options also need to be ordered by region name. So, I wrote the following code that works just fine -- no problems. But I was wondering if anyone can think of a better (more succinct, more efficient) way to have done the same thing. Handling Application Logic in Multiple AsyncTask onPostExecute()s

I have three simultaneous instances of an AsyncTask for download three files. When two particular ones finish, at the end of onPostExecute() I check a flag set by each, and if both are true, I call startActivity() for the next Activity. I am currently seeing the activity called twice, or something that resembles this type of behavior. Since the screen does that 'swipe left' kind of transition to the next activity, it sometimes does it twice (and when I hit back, it goes back to the same activity). It's obvious two versions of the activity that SHOULD only get called once are being put on the Activity stack. The only way I can find that this is possible is if both AsyncTasks' onPostExecute() executed SO simultaneously that they were virtually running the same lines at the same time, since I set the 'itemXdownloaded' flag to true right before I check for both and call startActivity(). But this is happening enough that it's very hard for me to believe that both downloads are finishing precisely at the same time and having their onPostExecute()s so close together... Any thoughts on what could be going on here? Hi, i'm using loadmovie() to load a youtube video player inside my flash website but when i load another video the old one doesn't stop, so i tried unloadmovie to destroy it but it seems that i did a mistake in my code This is how the code looks to stop the old one an load the new: vloader.unloadMovie(); vloader.loadMovie("http://www.youtube.com/v/Alw5hs0chj0&hl=fr&fs=1hJ-mPcGtC"); How to do that? please don't suggest me to use other objects or classes, i only want to edit that code. Multiple use of a form before it is submitted

I'm new to JavaScript, and trying to figure out the canonical way to do the following. I have a form with some checkboxes and a selector. Let's say the checkboxes are styles of music and the selector is for people's names. I'd like the user to be able to select the styles of music for each of the people's names and then submit the form with all of the data. For example, the user might first check off Classical, Jazz, Rock, and Pop and choose "Joe", then select Jazz, Pop, Country, and Electronica and choose "Jane". So there would have to be two different buttons for "submit person" and "submit form". I would like to: Have a list of the names and their chosen styles populate below the form, for feedback Allow the user to use the form as much as they want, and then submit all the data at the end I get the feeling that using jquery and JSON is perfect for this, but I'm not sure what search terminology to use to figure out how to do this. If it matters, the form will be processed by a Django view in Python.

Multiple/repeat .replace on one page

I've made a script which copies the ALT-tag of an image and puts it into a SPAN. It also formates the information devided by a hyphen. It works like a charm, but only with one image. Further more, I would like it to wrap a div around the image, to prevent unnecessary markup, as I have now. same flash file (.swf) downloaded multiple times on a page

I have a page that has a table with each row corresponding to an audio file. The last cell in each row embeds a simple flash audio player. The problem is that the flash file for the player is being downloaded for each row separately and as soon as rows go beyond 40-50 it crashes the browser. I tried using different players (1pixelout, flash-mp3-player) and the problem is still there, so its not a player specific issue. Is there any way to cache the player so that it is only downloaded once?

LINQ-SQL Updating Multiple Rows in a single transaction

Hi guys, I need help re-factoring this legacy LINQ-SQL code which is generating around 100 update statements. I'll keep playing around with the best solution, but would appreciate some ideas/past experience with this issue. Here's my code: List<Foo> foos; int userId = 123; using (DataClassesDataContext db = new FooDatabase()) { foos = (from f in db.FooBars where f.UserId = userId select f).ToList(); foreach (FooBar fooBar in foos) { fooBar.IsFoo = false; } db.SubmitChanges() } Essentially i want to update the IsFoo field to false for all records that have a particular UserId value. Whats happening is the .ToList() is firing off a query to get all the FooBars for a particular user, then for each Foo object, its executing an UPDATE statement updating the IsFoo property. Can the above code be re-factored to one single UPDATE statement? Ideally, the only SQL i want fired is the below: UPDATE FooBars SET IsFoo = FALSE WHERE UserId = 123 EDIT Ok so looks like it cant be done without using db.ExecuteCommand. Grr...! What i'll probably end up doing is creating another extension method for the DLINQ namespace. Still require some hardcoding (ie writing "WHERE" and "UPDATE"), but at least it hides most of the implementation details away from the actual LINQ query syntax.

Codeigniter: Retrieving data from multiple tables and displaying results

Hi, I am developing my first big application using codeigniter and need a little help as I am fairly new to it all. I know how to get records out of the DB and display them, but I now have to get results from two tables and display them. I pass $data to the view, it works fine for $data['prop'] but I can't get the rest. $data['prop'] = $this->ManageProperty_model->get_property_details($p_id); $data['img'] = $this->ManageProperty_model->get_property_images($p_id); $this->load->model('ManageBranch_model'); $data['branch'] = $this->ManageBranch_model->get_branch_details($p_id); I usually echo out results like so: <?php foreach ($prop as $p) : ?> <?php echo $p->ID; ?> <?php endforeach; ?> Even if there is only 1 row being returned as I am not sure of another way.do I need a foreach for img and branch?

Hibernate collection multiple types

I have a class Player that contains a list of Accessory objects. There are two kinds of Accessories. SocketedAccessories have a list of SocketJewels, and MagicAccessories have a list of MagicEnchantments. At the database level, there is a players table that represents the player, and an accessories table that contains a list of accessories. Accessories have a type field that indicates whether they are socketed or magical, and the columns that are only used by one type are just left blank by entries of the other type. There are socket_jewels and magic_enchantments tables, representing the socket jewels or the magic enchantments on each accessory. I am trying to figure out the correct way to map this with Hibernate. One way would be for the player to have two lists of accessories, one for SocketedAccessories and one for MagicAccessories. That seems undesirable, though. What I want is a way to specify that player should have a field List<Accessory> accessories that contains both types of thing. Is there a way to tell Hibernate, in either hbm.xml or annotations, to do this?

wordpress image showing up multiple times

I am writing a wordpress theme, and have run into a fairly basic problem. By default, when you inset an image into the post, it displays that image at the size you specify, on both the homepage and the single post. I would like to have different sized images, displaying a thumbnail on the homepage, and a full sized image when you click through to the post. I am using wordpress 2.9's new thumbnail feature, which has created great thumbnails for the homepage. But now, I am stuck with a nice thumbnail next to a large photo (on the index/home page). On the single page, it is displaying correctly with just the large picture. Basically, I need to know how to tell wordpress to only display the large post image on the single page, not on the index. Also: I have used the timthumb script, but I think the answer is far more basic then needing plugins or scripts Thanks!

Displaying same image multiple times at different locations in a web page using JavaScript or CSS

I’m looking to create a web page with 6 coupons on it, two per line in a web space of 1275 X 1650. Each coupon space will consist of a different image. The problem is I will be creating 20 such web pages that will have these coupons on them. Now some of the same images will appear in different locations/positions on the various web pages. Is there a way to update the same image that appear in different locations/positions at the same time? And what language is used to complete this? I’ve tried CSS but it don’t think it’s possible. So should I be using JavaScript.
