• jQuery version of YAHOO.lang (isUndefined, isNull, isString etc.)

  Does anyone know of a jQuery plugin that has 'helpers' or extensions like those found in the YAHOO.lang namespace? I have in mind functions such as: isNull isDefined isString isFunction I would also appreciate the same kind of thing for strings and arrays, such as Contains, StartsWith (I know these are easy to write, I'm just looking for a plugin that encompasses them all). It's not in the YAHOO.lang namespace but also form related extensions- determining a radiobox's value (from the one checked), a form element's type in a friendly name. Specifically a plugin with fluent API rather than selector based such as $("input[@type=radio][@checked]") Again I'm aware they're easy to implement but I don't want to reinvent the wheel.

  Say I have two Python modules: module1.py: import module2 def myFunct(): print "called from module1" module2.py: def myFunct(): print "called from module2" def someFunct(): print "also called from module2" If I import module1, is it better etiquette to re-import module2, or just refer to it as module1.module2? For example (someotherfile.py): import module1 module1.myFunct() # prints "called from module1" module1.module2.myFunct() # prints "called from module2" I can also do this: module2 = module1.module2. Now, I can directly call module2.myFunct(). However, I can change module1.py to: from module2 import * def myFunct(): print "called from module1" Now, in someotherfile.py, I can do this: import module1 module1.myFunct() # prints "called from module1"; overrides module2 module1.someFunct() # prints "also called from module2" Also, by importing *, help('module1') shows all of the functions from module2. On the other hand, (assuming module1.py uses import module2), I can do: someotherfile.py: import module1, module2 module1.myFunct() # prints "called from module1" module2.myFunct() # prints "called from module2" Again, which is better etiquette and practice? To import module2 again, or to just refer to module1's importation?

• What is the status of jQuery's multi-argument content syntax: deprecated, supported, documented?

  I've never seen this in any jQuery docs I've read; nor, have I ever seen it in the wild. I just observed multi-content syntax working here with jQuery 1.4.2. Is this supported syntax? Is it deprecated? $(".section.warranty .warranty_checks :last").after( $('<div class="little check" />').click( function () { alert('hi') } ) , $('<span>OEM</span>') /*Notice this (a second) argument */ ); I've never seen any indication in the jQuery grammar that any of the functions accept more than one argument (content) in such a fashion.

• how to call a javascript function in the top frame?

  This seems really simple, but how do I call a javascript function that's defined in the top-level html, from a child frame? top html doc - 1st level frame - 2nd level frame my top html doc has a function called testFn(). In the 2nd level frame I have a button with onclick="top.testFn();" but this doesn't call the testFn(). In Firebug if I use a watch to execute top.testFn(); it says TypeError: testFn() is not a function. Should this all just work - in which case it's a problem with my documents, or is there some other way to call functions in the top-level window?

• Converting a stopwatch time to milliseconds (regex)

  I'm trying to figure out the best way to convert a string containing a time to an integer number of milliseconds. I'm using a suboptimal way using a bunch of preg_match()'s and some array handling, but I was wondering if there was an elegant way. Here are some example stopwatch times (some wouldn't actually be seen on a stopwatch but need to be converted anyway): 3:34:05.81 34:05 5 (just 5 seconds) 89 (89 seconds) 76:05 (76 minutes, 5 seconds) Millseconds will not extend past 2 decimal places. You can give me an example using either PHP or Javascript regex functions. Thanks!

I then want Button to use ModifiedWidget rather than plain Widget. Is this possible to do some how? But unfortunately net beans does not let me import that. It says which it is expecting a . Or when I insert. It goes in to that class and I cannot import that jar file into the project by import instruction.   Suppose we have some named enums: enum MyEnum { FOO, BAR = 0x50 }; What I googled for is a script (any language) that scans all the headers in my project and generates a header with one function per enum. char* enum_to_string(MyEnum t); And a implementation with something like this: char* enum_to_string(MyEnum t){ switch(t){ case FOO: return "FOO"; case BAR: return "BAR"; default: return "INVALID ENUM"; } } The gotcha is really with typedefed enums, and unnamed C style enums. Does anybody know something for this? EDIT: The solution should not modify my source, except for the generated functions. The enums are in an API, so using the solutions proposed until now is just not an option.

• Reordering Lists like playlists in the media player

  Hi, I have a list of items that are displayed using a ListView from a SQLCursor. The SQL table includes(as well as other things) a _id field and an order field. I use the order field to sort the list before it gets to the ListView. What I need is a widget like the MediaPlayer has in its playlist view. It allows you to click the icon and drag the item in the playlist around and put it into a new order. With that ability I can then retrieve the new order and update the SQL table with the new order. However, I am not having any luck finding any clues to help me add that functionality into my program. The question is whether I can use existing functions to help me, or do I need to manually program motion events and such until I get nearly the same functionality.

This library probably is going to be used by another people and I want to do it correctly. So I would like to know, how I should deal with return statements of the functions of my DAO. Example 1 I have function to getCustomer which should return String. In case query doesn't return any result should I return null, empty string or throw some kind of Exception? • Send custom data when initializing java WebService over soap

  Hello. I have a question about sending additional data over soap to the functions. My webService function requests only one integer, for example an getDocumentPrivilage(DocumentID). In another WebService user registered and he got an unique ID, so the other application can see who he is. So on Service one he registers, gets id and it has to send it to the other webservice tor the privilage. Id dont wish to rewrite the function so that it gets the unique ID (like this getDocumentPrivilage(uniqID,DocumentID)) but, the wish is that i would be able to create a client that sends this data at the initialization or somehow as some sort of parameter behind the function. Is this possible?? I tried the ServiceLifecycle but cant see any setting i've given in. Im using WebSphere CE for the server and Jax-ws Creating the webapp in java. • Inheritance - initialization problem

  I have a c++ class derived from a base class in a framework. The derived class doesn't have any data members because I need it to be freely convertible into a base class and back - the framework is responsible for loading and saving the objects and I can't change it. My derived class just has functions for accessing the data. But there are a couple of places where I need to store some temporary local variables to speed up access to data in the base class. mydata* MyClass::getData() { if ( !m_mydata ) { // set to NULL in the constructor m_mydata = some_long_and complex_operation_to_get_the_data_in_the_base() } return m_mydata; } The problem is if I just access the object by casting the base class pointer returned from the framework to MyClass* the ctor for MyClass is never called and m_mydata is junk. Is there a way of only initializing the m_mydata pointer once?

• Codeigniter error logs show a 404 non-existing images directory...need to worry?

  I've recently started logging my errors through codeIgniter. Since doing so, I have noticed a lot of 404 errors for directories that don't exist. For example: ERROR - 2010-05-15 21:06:26 -- 404 Page Not Found -- someController/images Where someController is, obviously, a controller. The problem is, there are no functions within that controller called images, nor are there any links to a directory by that name. Could this be that someone is trying to hack my site? The following two functions are expected to raise IOException , Surprisingly they do not raise the IOException when the server is to which the tcpClient is connected is disconnected and therefore the underlying TCP client connection is broken.. • Manage widgets from page edit screen

  Hi there. I'm looking to find a way to integrate the widget control area into the page edit screen. For the site I'm making it would be perfect with the same drag and drop functionality. I want a list of the available widgets that I can drag and drop into the page widget area. The widgets will then only be shown on that particular page. I've looked through the wp-admin/widgets.php file and tried to use some code from there. I even tried just including widgets.php at the end of the post.php (which is basically what I want, but of course gave me funny results). Please don't suggest plug-ins like Widget Context or Widget Logic. Those are my fallback if I cant do this :) So I would like ideas and/or input on how to accomplish this. Preferably I'd like to do it in the functions.php file, or in a plug-in.

  Over the years I have slowly developed a regular expression that validates MOST email addresses correctly, assuming they don't use an IP address as the server part. Currently the expression is: ^[_a-z0-9-]+(\.[_a-z0-9-]+)*@[a-z0-9-]+(\.[a-z0-9-]+)*(\.[a-z]{2,4})$ I use this in several PHP programs, and it works most of the time. However, from time to time I get contacted by someone that is having trouble with a site that uses it, and I end up having to make some adjustment (most recently I realized that I wasn't allowing 4-character TLDs). What's the best regular expression you have or have seen for validating emails? I've seen several solutions that use functions that use several shorter expressions, but I'd rather have one long complex expression in a simple function instead of several short expression in a more complex function.
