  • Reasonable technological solutions to create CRM using .NET eventually Java

    My background(If it's too long, just skip it please ; ) ): I am Java programmer(because of demand): mostly teacher for other students, worked on few thesis for others, but during my journey I discovered that .NET and Microsoft's tools are on at least two levels higher than Java and its tools so I want to learn more about them. I programmed little bit on Windows Phone(NFC Tags, TCP Clients, guitar tuner using internal microphone, simple RSS), used WPF, integrated WPF with Windows Forms, Apple Bonjour(.NET), I have expierience with IP cameras and with unusal problems, I learn Android, but I don't like it at all. Problem: I was asked by my friend to create CRM for small new company. There will maximum 20 workers in the company working at computers in few cities in the country(Poland). They just want to store contracts with the clients and client's data. I am not sure what exacly they do but probably sell apartments so there will be at most few thousands of contracts to store in far future. Now I am totally new to CRM but I want to learn. I have few questions: Should the data be stored on a server in the company's building running 24/7 or cloud. If cloud which one? Should I use ASPX or WPF. I read one topic about it but as far as I know aspx sites can be viewed from every device with internet browser: tablets, phones(Android, WP, iOS) and computers at the same time- so the job is done once and for all(Am I right?), I don't know nothing about aspx. Can WPF be also used in manner that does not need to port it for other platforms?

  • Why can't I create direct3d objects?

    I've been programming professionally for years using languages like VBScript, JavaScript, and C#. As a hobby, I'm getting into some c/c++ and games programming with DirectX. I am running into an issue where I cannot create direct3d objects. I am using Visual C++ 2010 Express. After I installed vc++2010express I then installed the June 2010 release of DirectX. I am trying to include DirectX via #pragma statements.     I want to use a server as a device to run a script to parse a SMS text in the following way. I. The person types in a specific and special cell phone number (Similar to Facebook’s 32556 number used to post on your wall) II. The user types a text message. III. The user sends the text message. IV. The message is sent to some kind of Device (the server) or SMS Gateway and receives it. V. The thing described above that the message is sent to then parse the test message. I understand that these three question will mix Programming and Server Stuff and could reside here or at DBA.SE How would I make such a cell phone number (described in step I) that would be sent to the Device? How do I create the device that then would receive it? Finally, how do I Parse the text message? I don't want to pay for cloud space, server scripting stuff or server space; I want to just use a free webserver to do this totally free - meaning I will have to do more on my own...   • Make sniqt recognize all tray abilities (or create a working indicator in Qt)

    There is this old thread of mine: How do I create a working indicator with Qt/C++? where I was suggested to use the QSystemTray library for making a tray icon in Ubuntu for my application. Sniqt is a program that takes care of the rest. As known, Ubuntu has got rid of tray icons. Instead, it now uses indicators and only indicators. Sniqt converts the Qt tray icons into working indicators. The problem is that it doesn't do a very decent convertion. Actions like single click, middle click etc do not work, while they do in systems that support tray icons. Is there a way to have these actions back? Can I use QSystemTray icon and still have these interesting (and very helpful, in my occasion) actions in Ubuntu? I would be glad to know the answer to the other thread I talked about earlier (how to make a working indicator using the GTK libraries and prevent the crash), as well.   • how to create java zip archives with a max file size limit [closed]

    I need to write an algorithm in java (for an android app) to read a folder containing more folders and each of those containing images and audio files so the structure is this: mainDir/subfolders/myFile1.jpg It must be in java, something like perl script is not an option. It would preferably be for the compressed archive in order to squeeze as many files as possible before mailing the zip. Just a normal zip (no jar). My problem is that I need to limit the size of the archive to 16mb and at runtime, create as many archives as needed to contain all my files from my main mainDir folder. I tried several examples from the net, I read the java documentation, but I can't manage to understand and put it all together the way I need it. Has someone done this before or has a link or an example for me? I resolved the reading of the files with a recursive method but I can't write the logic for the zip creation I'm open for suggestions or better, a working example. EDIT: FileNotFoundException (no such file or directory) this was my initial post at Stack Overflow. I've got an answer to it, but I can't set the size of the ZipEntry and the logic doesn't work and also when extracting the my files from the zip I get the compression method not supported error.

    I want to paste my clipboard contents to a remote session such as VNC, IPMI, or Raritan. To accomplish this, I installed xdotool and clip. Then I wrote a simple command that types the clipboard contents: xdotool type "$(xclip -o)" This works if I stay in a terminal window, and type that command myself. It types back my clipboard contents when I run the command. Of course now I want to make this into a hotkey that works in any window. However, if I create a custom shortcut using Keyboard settings, it doesn't work. If I assign a hotkey Alt+K to the shortcut, nothing happens when I press it. If I use Ctrl+K, unexpected behavior occurs to whatever window has focus. e.g. my terminal window size shrinks (it's somewhat amusing, actually). Similar results occur if I save it as a script and call the script, or if I encapsulate the command with sh -c. How can I make practical use of the powerful xdotool type command?

  • Unable to create suitable graphics device?

    I've been following the Eye of the Dragon tutorial, which is basicly a guide to making a 2D RPG game, obviously. I recently finished the tutorial about making pop up screens in the menu and changed the screen to load as a full screen. Whenever I try and load the game it just goes black and my mouse sits there. I cannot change out of it other then with CtrlAltDel. Once i do that it says No suitable graphics card found, unable to create graphics device. I read somewhere about XNA not allowing more then one screen when any one of them is full screen. but it wasnt very informative. Anyone have any ideas whats going on and/or how to fix this?   • Cannot create a neutral unit with a trigger

    I've been playing around with the starcraft UMS (Use map settings) for a while and usually i figure things out pretty quickly when im stuck. Alas not this time. I'm trying to place a neutral unit (player 12) using a trigger. It refuses to work. I'm using Scmdraft 2.0 as my editor (but i cant get it to work in other editors either) (all neutral units placed before the game starts are visible and all other triggers work fine. Also i created a text msg and it does displays it in-game so the trigger triggers ) For testing I created a trigger that looks like this: Player: neutral (i tried neutral players player 1 and all players as well) Condition: -always Action: -Create *1 Terran Medic* at '*location 022*' for *Neutral* (also tried neutral players) When I start the game nothing happens. Here is what I tried: I tried placing a start location for neutral player (player 12) I tried changing the owner under map properties of player 12 to neutral and computer from unused which was the default. Although it seems like it should be a common enough problem, I don't see it in any FAQ and I cant find anything about it when I Google it. Thanks in advance.

    In my XNA program, I am trying to swing a sword. The sword starts at an angle of 180 degrees, then rotates (clockwise) to an angle of 90 degrees. The Rectangle struct that XNA provides, Rectangle mAttackBox = new Rectangle(int x, int y, int width, int height); However, this struct has two problems: Holds position and size in Integers, not Floats Cannot be rotated I was hoping someone could help me in either telling me that i'm wrong and the Rectangle can be used for both these methods, or can lead me down the right path for rotating a rectangle. I know how to create a Struct. I believe that I can make methods like classes. I can determine the 4 vertices of a 2D rectangle by calculating out the x,y of the other 3 given the length, width. I'm sure theres a Matrix class I can use to multiply each point against a Rotation matrix. But once i have my 4 vertices, I got two other problems: - How do I test other rectangles against it? How does .Intersects() work for the rectangle struct? - Is this even the fastest way to do it? I'd be constantly doing matrix multiplication, wouldnt that slow things down?

  • Cannot login with PhpMyAdmin on Mac os x 10.6. Does anyone know a fix to this error message?

    Hi, I just reinstalled Mac Os X 10.6.2 and had to reinstall/update my MySQL server. I run phpMyAdmin inside my localhost and I used to be able to login without a hitch. Since the updated (latest version MySQL 5.1.45 & PMA 3.3.1) versions I only get the following error when trying to login with phpMyAdmin: phpMyAdmin - Error Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly. The only thing I noticed is that mcrypt cannot be loaded (this has always been the case, no idea what to do to install this..) but this has never been a problem before. If anyone know what to do here that would be really appreciated. Thanks for reading, Jannis PS: The MySQL server itself is running and I am able to login with as root user via the MySQL Administrator.app

InnoDB is one of MySQL storage engines, it supports transactions, row-level locking, and foreign-keys. However, by default, InnoDB is not enabled by XAMPP. To enable it, locate the my.cnf configuration file (normally in C:/xampp/mysql/bin directory) and search for the following lines: # Comment the following if you are using InnoDB tables But the path C:/xampp/mysql/bin directory in my system doesn't seem to have such a file...   • MySQLdb within python2.5 virtualenv

    I have a Fedora 11 box with MySQL server. Fedora 11 uses python 2.6 internally and python 2.6 is automatically installed on the box. I have created a python virtual-env for version 2.5.5, so that I can run turbogears 1.x application. I have MySQLdb rpm installed on the box (and it works fine with python 2.6). When I import MySQLdb from within python version 2.6 it imports is successfully. When I import MySQLdb from within the python 2.5.5 virtual-env the import fails (because I have installed virtual-env with --no-site-packages). So, I have to install MySQLdb python as a local package (local to virtual-env). 'easy_install MySQL-python' within the virtual env fails. It downloads the MySQL-python-1.2.3.c1.tar.gz/download, but the 'python setup.py build' fails with error. The same problem occurs when building the MySQL outside of virtual-env. Is the 'python setup.py build' for MySQL-python trying to link to a library (and am I missing some library)? Or is the downloaded code missing some header files (unlikely)? Thanks.

A problem arises when I want to insert a NULL into a mysql database column - the wpdb class escapes PHP null variables to empty strings.     Apologies for my longest question on SO ever. I'm trying to interface with a php frontend for a mysql database in ROOT (a CERN framework in C++ for high energy physics analysis). To start off with, I tried to get this php interface to play nice with wget and curl first because I'm more familiar with them. The following command works: wget --post-data "hostname=localhost:3306&un=joeuser&pw=psswd&myquery=show_spazio_databases;" http://some.host.edu/log/log_query_matlab.php The results are: database1 database2 That's good. If I leave out the --post-data then I get the result: Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /log/log_query_matlab.php on line 6 i'm dead! Or, is there a standard way to format POST requests in a single line (I've seen multi-line stuff. Is that right?) Sorry I'm clueless! PS. The mysql query is show databases but the space has been replaced with _spazio_, Italian for space. The author of the db and php interface requires it (and various replacements for symbols), but has anyone seen this before? Trying to troubleshoot that was terrible!

  • MongoDB - proper use of collections?

    In Mongo my understanding is that you can have databases and collections. I'm working on a social-type app that will have blogs and comments (among other things) and had previously be using MySQL and pretty heavy partitioning in an attempt to limit possible concurrency issues. With MySQL I've stuffed all my user data into a _user database with several tables to further partition the data (blogs, pages, etc). My immediate reaction with Mongo would be to create a 'users' database with one collection per user. In this way user 'zach' blog entries would go into the 'zach' collection with associated comments and such becoming sub-objects in the same collection. Basically like dynamically creating one table per user in MySQL, but apparently without the complexity and limitations that might impose. Of course since I haven't really used Mongo before I'm having trouble gauging the (ahem..) quality of this idea and the potential problems it might cause down the road. I'd like user data to be treated a lot like a users directory in a *nix environment where user created/non-shared (mostly) gets put into one place (currently with MySQL that would be the appname_users as mentioned above). Most of the users data will be specific to the users page(s). Some of the user data which is queried across all site users (searchable user profiles) is currently kept in a separate database/table and I expect things like this could be put into a appname_system database and be broken up into collections and/or application specific databases (appname_profiles). Anyway, since the available documentation on this is currently a little thin and my experience is extremely limited I thought I might find a little guidance from someone with a better working understanding of the system. On the plus side I'd really already been attempting to treat MySQL as a schema-less document-store and doing this with Mongo seems much more intuitive/sane/rational so I'm really looking forward to getting started.     Okay, I log onto the MySQL command-line client as root. I then open or otherwise run a python app using the MySQLdb module as root. When I check the results using python (IDLE), everything looks fine. When I use the MySQL command-line client, no INSERT has occurred. If I change things around to _mysql instead of MySQLdb, everything works fine. I'd appreciate any clarification(s).
