  • What is(are) currently the best language(s) for modern web site design? Recommendations?

    I'm a little out of date, before HTML4 and javascript got AJAXy. Does anyone have opinions about the best tools for web site design? I'd rather avoid ASP and .NET, since I've got a limited budget. This seems like a good time to start fresh. Please keep the replies on the coding recommendations, as I already know how to register a domain name, redirect it, set up Apache. (I could use some opinions on the various Apache flavors)

  • Jquery - add server control

    Hey, I'm having trouble with a custom control and adding it dynamically using JQuery. I've got the following code: $('.custom_control_div').replaceWith( "<div><cc:mycustomcontrol id='cControl' ></cc:mycustomcontrol></div>" ); This doesn't throw any errors, but doesn't work because I need to use runat=server in my custom control. However, if I add runat=server in the code above, no javascript is executed on the page (and jqueryUI no longer works). The custom control works fine when I add it directly to the page from design-time. Is there a way to add a control, with runat=server using Jquery? Thanks

  • How can I edit a css rule in jQuery?

    The purpose is that rows are dynamically added to a table and it is not as nice (and slower) to apply the rule manually later. The specific example is that I am creating a tree table to represent a folder directory. Each folder is a div. In each div, there is a ul with an li for each columns' information. These li have a class name equivalent to the column name. This provides column width. I want to make the columns resizable however. I could do $('.className').css('width', newWidth) but then this wont apply to newly inserted items. Therefore, I want to modify the css rule. How do I do this?

  • How do I maintain scroll position in MVC?

    Im working on a project in MVC and have enjoyed learning about it. There are a few growing pains but once you figure them out it's not bad. One thing that is really simple in the WebForms world is maintaining the scroll position on a page. All you do is set the MaintainScrollPositionOnPostback property to true. However, in MVC, Im not using postbacks so this will not work for me. What is the standard way of handling this? Edit: Ajax is acceptable, but I was also wondering how you would do it without AJAX.

    I just wonder where is this space between the end of the image and the end of the li's are coming from: http://bluesys.ch/lussy/ its just a simple UL li img code: div#slider { border: 5px solid #fff; } div#slider ul li { border-bottom: 1px solid pink; } div#slider ul li img { border-bottom: 1px solid green; margin: 0; } note that all margins and paddings are set to 0 by my reset.css can someone help me out?   • I have a bunch of divs floated left, lined up in columns with different heights. They dont create a

    Hey guys, I am trying to create a grid like system with div's with content floated left. The problem is that the height of each div is not static since the content is different in each one. Since the height is different.. things get outta whack if one is taller then another in one row. Is there some sort of css way or js (prefer javascript) way to get around this.   • printing parent page and iframe contents from print button withing iframe.

    I am using an iframe (I hate them by the way!) to call in a 3rd party checkout page into my parent page. The check out page doesn't allow me to pass any variables into it other than $total_amount. So, if an individual purchases 2 or more items they have no record of the items they purchase just the total amount. I have echoed the list of items purchased with php above the iframe for their reference. The final checkout step in the iframe allows you to print the receipt. However, it only prints the iframe content. Can you tell a print button within an iframe to print the parent page as well?

    I have about 12-15 images that I want to align together in a grid, with text under each image. I thought about using a table, but I hear that tables aren't the best way to go these days. I tried a few other things, but nothing seemed to work the way I wanted it to.     I've a table with 2 columns and each column is 800px wide. I want to show this table in 800x50 window. So there should be horizontal and vertical scrollbar to view complete table. While I've found few related solutions (this and this) on SO, they only work if table width is smaller than screen size. In my case screen size is 1200px and total table width is 1600px. An example of the IFrame is: <IFRAME src="myURL" width=300" height="300">Browser not compatible. </IFRAME> I would like the transition from the content on my page to the contents of the IFrame to be seemless, assuming the background colors are consistent. The target browser is IE6 only and unfortunately solutions for others will not help.

  • jQuery slide up/down on hover bug

    Hi! I have one large div with one smaller div inside it. The smaller div is at first displayed as hidden. When the user hovers the mouse over the large container-div the smaller div is animated in with the show/hide-functions. So far everything works fine. However. The smaller div is animated in from the bottom - so if I let the cursor hover over the container at the very bottom, it's hovering over the animation of the smaller div while it's sliding in. So now the cursor is hovering over the smaller div instead of the larger div, and thus triggering the hide-function on the smaller div. This creates an infinite loop of show/hide calls as the smaller div slides in and out of where the cursor is pointing. Any ideas how to avoid this and not break the hovering on the container as the smaller div enters?

  • Why do browsers use my saved password for all forms in the one site?

    Is there a way to limit the url of saved credentials in browsers? For example, if I save a username and password for http://www.website.com/login can I make it so that the rest of the forms in the site don't use these details? http://www.website.com/members, http://www.website.com/admin etc... I'm aware of the autocomplete attribute but I don't want to turn off autocomplete entirely. I would like it if the browser remembered the login details per form or url.

Think it's me being stupid but having some weird things happing when trying style the elements

    Hi all, I am implementing an multilingual web site using ASP.Net. The languages are English,French and Arabic. Please note that Arabic's direction is RTL. What is the best way to implement the multilingual support. I am planning to use the .Net localization feature but the website texts are stored in DB. For the controls ( form controls) , I can used resx file. Do I need to build two different pages ( one for LTR and another for RTL )? Or can I have one ASPx file for all the three languages?   • How to debug CSS/Javascript hover issues

    I often find myself wanting to debug CSS layout issues that involve DOM changes caused by Javascript in reaction to a hover event or different CSS rules applying due to the :hover selector. Normally, I'd use Firebug to inspect the element that's giving me trouble and see what its CSS properties were, and where those properties come from. However, when hovering is involved, it becomes impossible, because as soon as you move your mouse down to the Firebug panel, the elements you're interested in are no longer hovered, the CSS rules that apply are different, and (in the case of JS hovers) the DOM is changed. Is there any way I can "freeze" the state of the DOM and application of :hover in order to inspect the DOM as it was during a hover event? Any other ideas on how to debug this sort of issue are welcome, of course.
