What I need is a way to, from the UserControl Type, obtain it's VirtualPath.   • SpringMvc java.lang.NullPointerException When Posting Form To Server

    I have a form with a user name field on it when i tab out of the field i use a RESTFUL Web Service that makes a call to a handler method in the controller. The method makes a call to a DAO class that checks the database if the user name exists. This works fine, however when the form is posted to the server i call the same exact function i would call in the handler method however i get a java.lang.NullPointerException when it accesses the class that makes a call to the DAO object. So it does not even access the DAO object the second time. I have exception handlers around the calls in all my classes that makes calls. Any ideas as to whats happening here why i would get the java.lang.NullPointerException the second time the function is called.Does this have anything to do with Spring instantiating DAO classes using a Singleton method or something to that effect? What can be done to resolve this?     I'm new to web development. In my view, I want to conditionally show a button if Model.TemplateLocation (which is a string) is not null or empty. The following code of course works fine, but selects all the columns, some of which I'm simply not interested in: var errors = (from error in db.ELMAH_Error select error).ToList(); return View(errors); I'm brand spanking new to MVC2 + L2E, so maybe I'm just not thinking in the right mindset yet, but this seems counter-intuitive. Is there an easy way to select a limited number of columns, or is this just part of using an ORM?

TO CLARIFY: WHEN YOU USE REDIRECTTOACTION, SHOULD THE URL IN THE BROWSER SHOW THE ORIGINAL ACTION OR THE ACTION YOU REDIRECTED TO?

Then in javascript, I want to be able to say something like..Objec.Property, ie/ Student.Name, or Student.GPA. Any help is appreciated. I tried json but couldn't get that to work either.   • ASP NET forms Authorization: how to reduce duration?

    I've got a web page which is implementing cookie based ASPNET Forms Authentication. Once the user has logged in the page, he can edit some information using a form which is created using a partialview and returned to him as a dialog for editing. The action linked to the partial view is decorated as follows: [HttpGet] [OutputCache(Duration = 0, VaryByParam = "None")] [Authorize(Roles = "test")] public ActionResult changeTripInfo(int tripID, bool ovride=false) { ... } The problem i am experiencing is the latency between the request and the time when the dialog is shown to the user: time ranges between 800 and 1100 ms which is not justified by the complexity of the form. Investigating with Glimpse turns out that the time to process the AuthorizeAttribute (see snip) sums up to at least 650 ms which is troubling me. Looking at the Sql server log, the call which checks the user roles takes, as expected, virtually nothing (duration 0). How can I reduce this time? Am I missing some optimization?

    Hi I am using Linq2Sql and want to bind an objects field (which is enum) to either a bit or a int type in the database. For example I want have a gender field in my model. I have already edited the DBML and changed the Type to point to my enum. I want to create Radio buttons (which I think I have figured out) for gender and dropdown lists for other areas using the same idea. My enum looks like this public enum Gender { Male, Female } Mapping between DbType 'int' and Type 'Project.Models.Gender' in Column 'Gender' of Type 'Candidate' is not supported. Any ideas on how to do this mapping. Am I missing something on the enums.

    I am using VS2010, CrystalReport13 & MVC3. My problem is unable to add an external assembly in Crystal Report using "Database Expert" Option. I have a class named WeeklyReportModel in an external assembly. In my web project, data retrieving from DB as IEnumerable collection of WeeklyReportModel. I tried ProjectData - .NetObjects in Crystal Report for adding the WeeklyReportModel. But this external assembly is not showing under ".NetObjects". Then I tried other option as Create New Connection - ADO.Net – Make New Connection and pointed this External Assembly. It has been added under Ado.Net node, but while expanding displays as "...no items found..." Totally frustrated. Please help.   • What's the difference between <% and <%:

    Hi, I couldn't find anything through Google, I suppose the search terms are too much to handle. The VS built-in help only explains <%, which is just embedded code. There is no mention of <%: EDIT: My book says, that the only difference is that <%: returns a MvcHtmlString. Why do we need an extra symbol for <%: just to return something? Thanks for any help! It would really help me to understand asp.net.
