    I can't seem to figure out how to get Objective-c to auto box my primitives. I assumed that i would be able to do the following NSString* foo = @"12.5"; NSNumber* bar; bar = [foo floatValue]; However i find that i have used to the more verbose method of NSString* foo = @"12.5"; NSNumber* bar; bar = [NSNumber numberWithFloat:[foo floatValue]]; Am i doing it wrong or is this as good as it gets?

  • How do you populate a UIImage view with ASIHTTPRequest given @2x?

    I've been trying to load images from a url using ASIHTTPRequest but I always come up with a blank UIImage. I think it might have something to do with iOS automatically choosing the @2x named version of images or vica versa.   • Spring.Net Message Selectors with compound statements don't seem to be working

    I'm using Spring.NET to connect to ActiveMQ and do some fairly simple pub sub routing. Everything works fine when my selector is a simple expression like Car='Honda' but if I try a compound expression like Car='Honda' AND Make='Pilot' I never get any matches on my subscription. Anyone know how to add more properties? You'd think bytesMessage.Properties would have a Add method, but it doesn't.

  • Mod_Rewrite: Testing URL got indexed in Google - How do I create a proper 301 redirect?

    I worked on a website for which I had a "development URL" that looked something like this: www.domainname.com.php5-9.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com/ Now, several weeks after the website launch, there is at least one page of content indexed on Google with that URL. Question: How do I redirect all requests from that test URL to reroute to the actual domain? So, for instance, I would want: www.domainname.com.php5-9.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com/page-name To go to: www.domainname.com/page-name The website is powered by WordPress and hosted on a PHP server. I've experimented with .htaccess without much success.

    I'm creating a list of my defined objects like so List<clock> cclocks = new List<clocks>(); for each object in the list i'm calling a method moveTime, like so foreach(clock c in cclocks) { c.moveTime(); } is the a way i can write some cleaver thing so i can call cclocks.moveTime(); it would then go though the list doing that method I guess I want to create a collection method? I'm guessing there must be some thing I can do I just don't know what. thanks for your help

  • Unable to Calculate Position within Owner-Draw Text

    I'm trying to use Visual Studio 2012 to create a Windows Forms application that can place the caret at the current position within a owner-drawn string. However, I've been unable to find a way to accurately calculate that position. I've done this successfully before in C++. I've now tried numerous methods in C#. Originally, I tried using .NET classes to determine the correct position, but then I tried accessing the Windows API directly. In some cases, I came close, but after some time I still cannot place the caret accurately. I've created a small test program and posted key parts below. I've also posted the entire project here. The exact font used is not important to me; however, my application assumes a mono-spaced font. Any help is appreciated.     I can get the active window's process, but I have no idea how to get the location of that process, as far as I can see the process object only has ProcessName property which just returns like chrome instead of C:\pathtochrome\chrome.exe How can I get the latter because I'm trying to get the process's File Description attribute, but I need the full path to it.

  • How to catch YouTube embed code and turn into URL

    I need to strip YouTube embed codes down to their URL only. This is the exact opposite of all but one question on StackOverflow. Most people want to turn the URL into an embed code. This question addresses the usage patttern I want, but is tied to a specific embed code's regex ( Strip YouTube Embed Code Down to URL Only ) I'm not familiar with how YouTube has offered embeds over the years - or how the sizes differ. According to their current site, there are 2 possible embed templates and a variety of options. If that's it, I can handle a regex myself -- but I was hoping someone had more knowledge they could share, so I could write a proper regex pattern that matches them all and not run into endless edge-cases. The full use case scenario : user enters content in web based wysiwig editor backend cleans out youtube & other embed codes; reformats approved embeds into an internal format as the text is all converted to markdown. on display, appropriate current template/code display for youtube or other 3rd party site is generated At a previous company, our tech-team devised a plan where YouTube videos were embedded by listing the URL only. That worked great , but it was in a CMS where everyone was trained. I'm trying to create a similar storage, but for user-generated-content.

  • Intentionally get a "MySQL server has gone away" error

    I'm trying to cope with MySQL's error MySQL server has gone away in a django env. The quick workaround was to set the global wait_timeout MySQL variable to a huge value, but in the long run this would accumulate to many open connections. I figured I'll get the wait_timeout variable and poll the server in smaller intervals. After implementing this I tried to test it but am failing to get the error. I set global wait_timeout=15 and even set global interactive_timeout=15 but the connection refuses to disappear. I'm sure I'm polling the database in larger intervals than 15sec. What could be the cause for not being able to recreate this error?

  • Retain cycle on `self` with blocks

    I'm afraid this question is pretty basic, but I think it's relevant to a lot of Objective-C programmers who are getting into blocks. What I've heard is that since blocks capture local variables referenced within them as const copies, using self within a block can result in a retain cycle, should that block be copied. So, we are supposed to use __block to force the block to deal directly with self instead of having it copied. __block typeof(self) bself = self; [someObject messageWithBlock:^{ [bself doSomething]; }]; instead of just [someObject messageWithBlock:^{ [self doSomething]; }]; What I'd like to know is the following: if this is true, is there a way that I can avoid the ugliness (aside from using GC)?

  • HTTP Compression problems on IIS7

    I've spent quite a bit of time on this but seem to be going nowhere. I have a large page that I really want to speed up. The obvious place to start seems to be HTTP compression, but I just can't seem to get it to work for me. After considerable searching, I've tried several variations of the code below. It kind of works, but after refreshing the browser, the results seem to fall apart. They were turning to garbage when the page used caching. If I turn off caching, then the page seems right but I lose my CSS formatting (stored in a separate file) and get an error that an included JS file contains invalid characters. Most of the resources I've found on the Web were either very old or focused on accessing IIS directly.   • phpmyadmin and the database

    Not sure I fully understand what phpmyadmin does. I created a database in phpmyadmin, and would now like to start accessing the data in it from php. However I have no idea where the database is? Should I export in the phpmyadmin software? I tried that but it came up with a .sql file which can be opened in notepad and contains the SQL statements used to create the datbase and the one table inside. Basically that doesn't look like a database to me.

  • Google Chrome Application Mode: Possible to isolate multiple instances?

    I want to run multiple Google Chrome application windows logged into the same web site (Twitter.com, say), each with different credentials. Is this possible? If so, how? My initial testing shows that multiple Chrome app windows are not sufficiently isolated to do this. Logging into the second account logs me into the second account in both windows, suggesting that they are sharing information just as two Chrome tabs might.
