I got an object that needs to be edge detected, but I have other white interfering objects in the background that are below the target objet ...   When dealing with cell arrays, I can use the deal() function to assign cells to output variables, such as: [a, b, c] = deal(myCell{:}); or just: [a, b, c] = myCell{:}; I would like to do the same thing for a simple array, such as: myArray = [1, 2, 3]; [a, b, c] = deal(myArray(:)); But this doesn't work. What's the alternative?

But functions have their own workspace and can not access variables in the global workspace. 'string', 'clickme', ...   I'm trying to build an algebra trainer for students. I want to construct a representative problem, define constraints and relationships on the parameters, and then generate a bunch of Latex formatted problems from the representation. As an example: A specific question might be: If y < 0 and (x+3)(y-5) = 0, what is x? Answer (x = -3) I would like to encode this as a Latex formatted problem like. If $y<0$ and $(x+constant_1)(y+constant_2)=0$ what is the value of x? Answer = -constant_1 And plug into my problem solver constant_1 > 0, constant_1 < 60, constant_1 = INTEGER constant_2 < 0, constant_2 > -60, constant_2 = INTEGER Then it will randomly construct me pairs of (constant_1, constant_2) that I can feed into my Latex generator. Obviously this is an extremely simple example with no real "solving" but hopefully it gets the point across. Things I'm looking for ideally in priority order * Solve algebra problems * Definition of relationships relatively straight forward * Rich support for latex formatting (not just writing encoded strings) Thanks!

  So I have two cell arrays: A = {2 2 2 2} B = {[1 2] [3 2] [5 5] [7 7]} and a function of two arguments: F = @(a, b) [a * b(1), (b(2) / 3), (b(1) + a) * 22] And I want to apply the function to the two cell arrays like so: idealfun(F, A, B) and have it do the right thing (return a cell array with four cells of 1x3 vectors). Any ideas how to find/write idealfun?

  I often find myself wanting to collapse an n-dimensional matrix across one dimension, and can't figure out if there is a concise incantation I can use to do this. For example, when parsing an image, I often want to do something like this. (Note! Illustrative example only. I know about rgb2gray for this specific case.) img = imread('whatever.jpg'); s = size(img); for i=1:s(1) for j=1:s(2) bw_img = mean(img(i,j,:)); end end I would love to express this as something like: bw = on(color, 3, @mean); or bw(:,:,1) = mean(color); Is there a short way to do this?

  I am writing a function to remove some values from a cellarray, like so: function left = remove(cells, item); left = cells{cellfun(@(i) ~isequal(item, i), cells)}; But when I run this, left has only the first value, as the call to cells{} with a logical array returns all of the matching cells as separate values. How do I group these separate return values into a single cellarray? Also, perhaps there is already a way to remove a given item from a cellarray? I could not find it in the documentation.

  hello everyone, i'm just not sure how to draw the frequency response (H) of the high pass filter? after drawing the frequency response i can get the b coefficient by taking the ifft of (H). so yeah, for a low pass filter, with a cutoff frequency of say pi/2 : the frequency response code will be H = exp(-1*j*w*4).*(((0 <= w) & (w<= pi/2)) | ((2*pi - pi/2 <= w) & (w<=2*pi)); sincr the response is "1" between 0 and pi/2 and between (2*pi - pi/2) and 2*pi. can you help me write H for a high pass filter? thanx in advance.
