• java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError in command line

  Hi, I'm developing an application in Eclipse and it runs fine from within Eclipse. The problem I'm having is that when I export it to a jar file and run it from the command line I get a NoClassDefFound error for javax.mail.internet. In both my project build path and class path I have included the activation.jar and mail.jar libraries required for me to use javax.mail.internet, and like I said it works fine from within Eclipse but not when I export it to a jar. If my build path has those files and so does my class path why would this not be working? When the button is clicked, I want the PollFrame to be displayed. • Is there a good Lotus Notes open-source alternative?

  At my work we use Lotus Notes 6.5 for our email, meeting scheduling and instant messaging. I can't stand the horrible UI, buggy meeting scheduling and overall '90s feel when using it and would love to replace it with open-source alternatives. So far I've been able to setup Thunderbird for email, and I should also be able to configure pidgin to do IM, but I can't find any replacement for the meeting scheduling. I need to be able to receive meeting requests and respond to them. I've looked around trying to get the Thunderbird plugin Lightning to manage the scheduling, but everything I've read so far requires me to export .ics files from Lotus Notes or otherwise keep Lotus Notes around for day-to-day activities. I've also looked into using Evolution as the client, but I found even less information for it than I did for Thunderbird. How can I easily send, receive and respond to Lotus Notes meetings using an open-source alternative? Alternatively, if there exists a full drop-in replacement to Lotus Notes I would also consider it. Note: My desktop at work is a Windows XP machine, though I wouldn't be opposed to a solution requiring cygwin at this point. Edit: I have no power over the server. I only want a compatible client.

• Help A Hacker: Give ‘Em The Windows Source Code

  The announcement of another Windows megapatch reminded me of a WikiLeaks story about Microsoft Windows that hasn’t attracted much attention. Alarmingly, we learn that the hackers have the Windows source code to study and test for vulnerabilities. Chinese hackers used the knowledge to breach Google’s accounts and servers: “In 2003, the CNITSEC signed a Government Security Program (GSP) international agreement with Microsoft that allowed select companies such as TOPSEC access to Microsoft source code in order to secure the Windows platform” “CNITSEC enterprises has recruited Chinese hackers in support of nationally-funded "network attack scientific research projects." From June 2002 to March 2003, TOPSEC employed a known Chinese hacker, Lin Yong (a.k.a. Lion and owner of the Honker Union of China), as senior security service engineer…” Windows is widely seen as unsecurable. It doesn’t help that Chinese government-funded hackers are probing the source code for vulnerabilities. It seems odd that people who didn’t write the code can find vulnerabilities faster than the owners of the code. Perhaps the U.S. government should hire its own hackers to go over the same Windows source code and then tell Microsoft how to secure its product?

  Am I able to produce code for a game which uses the Farseer engine and release my code under an open source license other than the Ms-PL? My concern is with the following section from the license: If you distribute any portion of the software in source code form, you may do so only under this license by including a complete copy of this license with your distribution. If you distribute any portion of the software in compiled or object code form, you may only do so under a license that complies with this license. If I do not include Farseer in my source code distribution does this give me an exemption from this clause as I am not distributing the software? My code merely uses its functions. No where in the license does it force you to provide source code for derivative works or linking works, it simply gives you the option of "if you distribute".

  I have a bug in a Linux kernel module that causes the stock Ubuntu 14.04 kernel to oops (crash). That is why I want to edit/patch the source of only that single kernel module to add some extra debug output. The kernel module in question is mvsas and not necessary to boot. For that reason I don't see any need to update any initrd images. I have read a lot of information (as shown below) and find the setup and build process confusion. • SQL SERVER – New Look for CodePlexProject – Hosting for Open Source Software

  Codeplex is my favorite site. CodePlex is Microsoft’s free open source project hosting site. You can create projects to share with the world, collaborate with others on their projects, and download open source software. It is great place to find so many open source project available to explore. All the softwares are free and open source. I often go there at intervals to check what is new in SQL Server field as well on other technologies. Yesterday when I visited it, I had nice surprise as it has total makeover and looks very decent as well elegant at the same time. I have noticed that when I talk about Codeplex is user community, not everybody knows about it. The quickest way I explain what is codeplex is that I start naming few of the projects which are available there and suddenly I start noticing a few hands going up knowing the projects. • How do I fix these compiler errors in Apple Crunch?

  I've been looking around and I finally got the full source code for a game called Apple-Crunch from Google Code. But when I put it into my project, the source code included so many errors in the class files such as: cannot be resolved into a type the constructor is undefined the method method() is undefined for the type Sprite class.java I downloaded the source directly from the command-line and noticed errors popping up on my project. Since I couldn't figure out how to import the actual folder into my workspace (it wouldn't show up on existing projects) I decided to copy and overwrite the folders into the project. The errors were still there so I looked at the class files and noticed that the classes with errors extended from RokonActivity. I then proceeded to add to the libs folder the Rokon library in hopes to fix the errors. Sadly it didn't work and now I don't what to do to fix the errors. How do I fix the errors without having to manually change the code? The source code should be fully functional so why are there errors?

  I'm not expecting C# to be on par with say Java or Python in the open source community, but it still surprises me just how far behind it is. 'Multi language' open source repos like google code or github have barely any C# projects in comparison to the other languages I mentioned. I'd like to see C# and .Net shake off that slight corporate feel and move more into the open source arena but I just can't see that happening. I'd be interested to hear peoples opinion on why this might be?

• Microsoft StyleCop is now Open Source

  I have previously talked about Microsoft StyleCop. For those that might not know about it, StyleCop is a source analysis tool (different from the static analysis that FxCop performs) that analyzes the source code directly. As a result, it focuses on more design (or style) issues such as layout, readability and documentation. In an interesting move (and one that I am happy to see), Microsoft has decided to make StyleCop an open source project (under the MS-PL license) available on CodePlex. (The project site isn’t up  yet, but should be in the next few weeks.) This will give the development community the opportunity to help contribute to the project, expanding support to other languages (currently it only supports C#), adding features, and fixing bugs. Shortly after the CodePlex site is up, StyleCop 4.4 will be released which includes support for C# 4.0 as well as a large number of bug fixes and other improvements.   [background information] On the Source engine (and it's antecessor, goldsrc, quake's) the game objects are divided on two types, world and entities. The world is the map geometry and the entities are players, particles, sounds, scores, etc (for the Source Engine). Every entity has a think function, which do all the logic for that entity. So, if everything that needs to be processed comes from a base class with the think function, the game engine could store everything on a list and, on every frame, loop through it and call that function. On a first look, this idea is reasonable, but it can take too much resources, if the game has a lot of entities.. • Rebuild package from upstream source?

  I'm trying to rebuild a package (specifically grub2) to overcome some bugs that have been fixed upstream but not fixed in Ubuntu, and have the package integrate into Ubuntu properly. The package is hosted in bzr both on Launchpad and GNU Savannah. How can convert a "raw" upstream source package into an "Ubuntu" version and recompile/repackage it? I've worked out that I can get the latest Ubuntu version of the package source with apt-get source, but there are significant differences to the upstream version. What is the best course of action here?

Running sudo apt-build build-source lirc then gave me Some error occured building package which is not really informative. I have successfully built patched lirc from source but now I would like to get a deb package. Where can I look for this 'some errors' in detail? Thank you, Alexei

  I've been updating some of the default profile for bash, and saw from the tutorials I was following that I could reload the new profile with the new environment settings by using: source /etc/bash.bashrc The only thing is - the new environment variables were only available to my current user - and were ignored when I used sudo. They only became available to sudo when I closed my terminal session and rejoined. When I try to use: sudo source /etc/bash.bashrc I get the error: sudo: source: command not found Is there a simple way to load in the new bash profile settings for sudo without having to close the terminal and restart?

  Has anyone had any luck compiling and installing Samba 3.0.24 on Ubuntu 10.04? I'm trying to set up realtime virus scanning on Samba shares (ClamAV) using the legacy version of Samba as it is the latest release supported by samba-vscan-0.3.6b. I'm no expert at this but I think I have all of the dependencies covered and I'm following the documentation with the source code but I'm getting errors as if there is a problem with the source code. I downloaded the source directly from http://ftp.samba.org/pub/samba/stable/samba-3.0.24.tar.gz After running ./configure and make, I get the following error.   How does one configure the Radeon Open Source drivers? I have just installed Ubuntu 12.10 and want to try the Open Source drivers instead of the proprietary AMD binaries. After the installation, the driver seems to be installed, I have wobbly windows working (can't use a PC without wobbly windows!), and life is generally good. I have a problem when I connect a secondary monitor. Performance is killed (everything becomes laggy and jerky) and my laptop sits on the right-hand side of the monitor, not the left. I'd like to know how to turn off the Laptop's monitor so I'm just using the external monitor. How can I do this using the Open Source Radeon drivers? I can't find a GUI management tool, and there's no longer an xorg.conf. What to do?

  So far, I have covered Client Identity and Oracle Proxy Session features, with WLS or database credentials.  This article will cover one more feature, Identify-based pooling.  Then, there is one more topic to cover - how these options play with transactions.Identity-based Connection Pooling An identity based pool creates a heterogeneous pool of connections.  This allows applications to use a JDBC connection with a specific DBMS credential by pooling physical connections with different DBMS credentials.  The DBMS credential is based on either the WebLogic user mapped to a database user or the database user directly, based on the “use database credentials” setting as described earlier. Using this feature enabled with “use database credentials” enabled seems to be what is proposed in the JDBC standard, basically a heterogeneous pool with users specified by getConnection(user, password). The allocation of connections is more complex if Enable Identity Based Connection Pooling attribute is enabled on the data source.  When an application requests a database connection, the WebLogic Server instance selects an existing physical connection or creates a new physical connection with requested DBMS identity. The following section provides information on how heterogeneous connections are created:1. At connection pool initialization, the physical JDBC connections based on the configured or default “initial capacity” are created with the configured default DBMS credential of the data source.2. An application tries to get a connection from a data source.3a. If “use database credentials” is not enabled, the user specified in getConnection is mapped to a DBMS credential, as described earlier.  If the credential map doesn’t have a matching user, the default DBMS credential is used from the datasource descriptor.3b. If “use database credentials” is enabled, the user and password specified in getConnection are used directly.4. The connection pool is searched for a connection with a matching DBMS credential.5. If a match is found, the connection is reserved and returned to the application.6. If no match is found, a connection is created or reused based on the maximum capacity of the pool: - If the maximum capacity has not been reached, a new connection is created with the DBMS credential, reserved, and returned to the application.- If the pool has reached maximum capacity, based on the least recently used (LRU) algorithm, a physical connection is selected from the pool and destroyed. A new connection is created with the DBMS credential, reserved, and returned to the application. It should be clear that finding a matching connection is more expensive than a homogeneous pool.  Destroying a connection and getting a new one is very expensive.  If you can use a normal homogeneous pool or one of the light-weight options (client identity or an Oracle proxy connection), those should be used instead of identity based pooling. Regardless of how physical connections are created, each physical connection in the pool has its own DBMS credential information maintained by the pool. Once a physical connection is reserved by the pool, it does not change its DBMS credential even if the current thread changes its WebLogic user credential and continues to use the same connection. You must make the following changes to use Logging Last Resource (LLR) transaction optimization with Identity-based Pooling to get around the problem that multiple users will be accessing the associated transaction table.- You must configure a custom schema for LLR using a fully qualified LLR table name. All LLR connections will then use the named schema rather than the default schema when accessing the LLR transaction table.  - Use database specific administration tools to grant permission to access the named LLR table to all users that could access this table via a global transaction. By default, the LLR table is created during boot by the user configured for the connection in the data source. In most cases, the database will only allow access to this user and not allow access to mapped users. Connections within Transactions Now that we have covered the behavior of all of these various options, it’s time to discuss the exception to all of the rules.  When you get a connection within a transaction, it is associated with the transaction context on a particular WLS instance. When getting a connection with a data source configured with non-XA LLR or 1PC (using the JTS driver) with global transactions, the first connection obtained within the transaction is returned on subsequent connection requests regardless of the values of username/password specified and independent of the associated proxy user session, if any. The connection must be shared among all users of the connection when using LLR or 1PC. For XA data sources, the first connection obtained within the global transaction is returned on subsequent connection requests within the application server, regardless of the values of username/password specified and independent of the associated proxy user session, if any.  The connection must be shared among all users of the connection within a global transaction within the application server/JVM.
